What a delicious traditional Guatemalan place we found. As soon as you walk in you can smell the freshly baked bread. We got the huevos revueltos breakfast, the refried black beans were so tasty, the eggs had tomatada on top and that just made them perfect. The only thing was that the plátanos fritos were cold. We also got the carne asada breakfast, the carne asada was so delicious and tender. The meals come with coffee and a freshly baked bolillo (roll). We also ordered several pieces of pan dulce to take home and share with the fam. They only have six tables to eat inside, so you need to get up early to beat the crowd. They do have a few table outside as well, but it was raining today.

No jodas bicho!!!! Están ustedes peor que Mc. Dondalds. Entre los años la Big Mac se a echo más y más chiquita. Pues así están ustedes con su pan con nada..... digo pan con todo. Entre los años le van quitando media pulgada al bolillo.

Our go to when we want different kind of breakfast sandwich. The carne asada torta that I always get is grilled fresh. The ladies at the counter that take your order are always friendly and easy to talk to. When we order ahead, our food is usually ready. But when it's early in the morning, the bakery is full of customers waiting and eating. The bakery has a nice feel and is always busy. The whole ambiance of the bakery is like being home when your mom or grandma are cooking.

Guatemalan food! "Where is Guatemala" one might ask? Well, if one starts at the border of New Mexico and Mexico and goes south down the middle, one will eventually hit the border of Mexico and Guatemala! Now why is this important? It is important because the two countries are neighbors and therefore have almost identical ingredients in their cuisines; rice, beans, plantains, corn and etc. However, if you try the seemingly same dishes from both sides with some foodie curiosity, you will notice that there are differences. Some of those small differences will make a big difference if you have a particular pallet. Universal Bakery is a clean, spacey and friendly place for one to try Guatemalan food. The owner is very friendly and the service is very good. The ingredients are high quality and the dishes are delicious. We tried a few different items and they were all good, and according to my personal Guatemalan cuisine consultant who was enjoying the dishes right next to me, they are done "the way they are done in Guatemala"! Go for it! Discover the finer differences between Central American cuisines!

I'm loving this place but i feel like the heart stays in the location spotted on 30th and Mission. But this is closer to me so it'll do. I come every morning or so to grab either my conchas, champurradas, or pan con todo y platanos with coffee or freshly made orange juice. A bit pricey but i have to say it's worth it man. The ladies that work here are so sweet and kind. Makes you feel like home.

The food is very good and original Guatemalan dishes and pastries. Everything is good here and I order my Christmas tamales here, they are very tasty.

This is unacceptable! This place is already small and they think it's ok to take off their mask to chat!

Stay away from the beef torta! The meat was hard to bite into that I only ended up eating the bread.

The issue is that I was definitely pushing it on time if I planned on making my flight. As I was driving here, I had the thought that if there was an annoying parking situation or a line, I would just have to pivot and forego patronizing. But as it turns out, there was one spot available right next to the front door and no one inside. But then when I requested a nitro, the owner (I assume?) was extremely apologetic that their coffee machine broke. I asked for a few alternate types of coffee, but it turned out said machine controlled it all. So we shifted to the pastries. I read on the website that they had something with guava, so I asked for two of those: one for me, one for the wife. He even offered to heat mine up, which I will say yes to 100% of the time. I then jumped back in the car and was back into "don't' miss your flight mode." Of course, when you're in a hurry, you manage to hit every red light along the way, so I was doing a lot of yelling at electricity and God. But then I figured I might as well take the time to try the pastry that I'd originally planned on eating on the plane. As it turns out, it brought me into a nearly immersive experience of zen. The only bad thing is that I devoured it within seconds and then it was merely a thing of the past. My wife is fortunate that I have the amount of integrity that I do because I am sitting on the plane as I write this and I could easily inhale that 2nd pastry with her being none the wiser. If you're reading this, wife, remember that you hit the spousal lottery.

Probably the least oily dish. The sizzling sisig was pretty oily, like WAY oilier than other places I've had it. The wonton soup was not great, very bland and boring. The lechon was BAD, as in the worst I've ever had. It was moist and the skin has a small crunch to it, but to the nose it was VERY odiferous and the taste...SUPER gamey. Tried to add lemon and whatever else I could but it was not good. Sorry. Most places I've gone it's just extra crispy pork belly, but this was...idk... Not many great things I can say about this place. We did have drinks...sago't gulaman. I mainly got it because of what was in it, but also because it said it was "refreshing." I don't know...maybe my idea and their idea of refreshing are different. It was good, but SOOOOO sweet and sugary. Yes, I know it says brown sugar in ingredients, but I didn't think it would be made mainly of it. That is definitely not my type of refreshing. Servers were very nice and friendly. And the food came out relatively fast. I guess the questions is would I ever go back? Probably not. Maybe for starbread, but for Filipino food? There are SO many other better places out there. Maybe we caught them on a bad night but...yeah sorry...no thanks

I was looking for best breakfast places near me. I read they offered a variety of empanadas and hopia ube. I walked in to see a line and a bunch of O.G. lolos/lolas playing scratchers/ drinking coffee. I was like ok they must be good if there's a line. I ordered a sampler for my family to try of empanadas: pork, beef, tuna, and chicken. For my husband and I we got ube and mongo hopia. The empanadas were a hit with my family. The hopias were fresh and flaky. The inside had a generous amount of ube/mongo. I found the price of $8 for 5 pieces to be steep but it's way better than Goldilocks and the possible hit or miss hopia from other places. I'll definitely be back soon to try the empanadas first hand and get more hopia. The gentleman who helped me was super nice and took the time to talk to me despite the growing line. I'm not too sure what the people in line were waiting for but I'll be back to find out and keep you posted!

He explains there aren't many flavors left because most of his business is through online orders. We asked him to help us pick out 4 cupcakes, and he was pretty chatty about them all. After we picked out our 4 cupcakes, he gave us one for free (wow - thanks so much). That took the sting out of $6 cupcakes. The place is a bakery and store front, but no seating. They have cupcakes, mochi donuts, savory muffins, and various drinks. Their baked good are made with rice flour and coconut milk, so their cupcakes are light and moist. They kinda have a mochi-coconut flavor, but not the sticky mochi texture. Most of their cupcakes have some type of filling inside, which adds to the moistness. All their flavors are really creative, and some of the ones we got today I don't even see on their online menu. The instructions say best served heated for a few seconds, but I found the cream gets too melty. It tastes fine without heating imo. What we got: + Ube cookies and cream - ube and coconut forward. Yum. + Guava - this had a dollop guava jam on top and some squirted inside too. The guava adds just the perfect bit of tartness to the cupcake. + Nutella - there's a dollop of nutella on top that fills part of cupcake inside. + Churro Biscoff - pretty gooey inside, which may be due to heating it a few seconds. Still very yummy. It's a good thing I don't live close to one of these stores or I'd be here every day. I prefer these to Sprinkles cupcakes for the same price point.

And no dozen pricing is disheartening. p.s. another customer asked if the Milbrae location might have other flavors or bites, and he said probably they have the same thing. So he either is an expert and knows exactly what the other location has, just talked to them recently and ask about their inventory, or is just bs'ing.
