We brought our dog here for a bath. I really appreciated we could walk in and order the bath and go to the area. It was well maintained and there was an attendant cleaning tubs and disinfecting them. They explained everything that was included and showed me a supply basket. Our townhouse doesn't have the ability to accomodate a raised dog wash, so this is a perfect solution when we need a bath between grooming appointments. The store itself has all of the essentials. We've bought our pup some treats here. The staff has always been really nice. read more

Unleashed is the word that "springs" to mind when I whip off my pants, but this is not that. At least I'd hope not. In fact... This is a ridiculously cute pet store in Alexandria, right next to my favorite bubble tea shop. Java Loco. They wash your pets right in front of the window. OMG I could just stand here and watch cats being washed all day. I mean dogs. I wish they washed more cats. But that can be lethal, claw-and-bite wise. But what a great place. Not cheap but then neither am I. Wink. Not to mention the super cute decor and funny things written on the wall. Sort of like a public restroom but classier. read more

Petco has been steadily increasing their prices, while the self bathing option for your pet was initially marketed at $10, it's now $12. Nothing has changed- in fact the tools in the self grooming section have gotten worse (only bc it seems ppl destroy them and the store does not replace?) I don't see why the price has risen $1 a year since I've been here. Granted $2 isn't a lot for me, but it puts things in perspective. Makes me wonder what other prices they're raising and why. I hate how companies can't just focus on being great to their customers. Money money money is the god most companies worship these days anyway. On a side note, the staff here are always friendly and knowledgeable. Store is always clean with good energy. I just don't understand the price increase for something that's literally a self service using their equipment. Smh how lame read more

We brought our dog here to try out the self-wash because we do not have the stuff to wash him and it has gotten to cold to wash him outside. They have everything you need: toothpaste w/finger brushes, shampoo and conditioner, towels... you cannot cut their hair or nails here though. I wish the blow dryer was bigger and more powerful, but for the price I won't complain. Oliver, my dog, is not a fan of baths but he came out smelling fresh and mostly dry. We learned that next time we should bring rain jackets because he shook so much water on us, we got a bath lol. read more

Love, Love, Love this place. I have been going here for almost two years. Initially, it was because they were just around the corner from my house. Now that I am out in the burbs I continue to go back because I love this store and the staff. The Unleashed stores are smaller, more specialized version of Petco with a broader product offering - especially the organic, raw and fresh made products. Best of all, Petco as a whole does not discriminate against the bully breeds unlike the other big "P". As a bully breed advocate, this is HUGE to me. They are super dog friendly. They even have a vet scale in there if you happen to be interested in weighing your babies. Their diverse assortment of toys is fantastic. I have a pitt bull and that boy is a chewer. There a very few toys that survive more than an hour with him. I love that Unleashed actually steps up and sells toys that are suitable for my guy. I have found a couple of products that I would deem pitt worthy as they have lasted a couple of months vice hours. The open bin dog treats are another plus. You can mix and match from a diverse assortment of tasty treats for one set price per pound. The strawberry cream cookies are big hit at our house! The dog wash stations are brilliant. For $10 you get towels, shampoo and hot water to wash your dog. Although I don't really take advantage of them any more I did when I lived around the corner. No fuss.No muss and NO CLEAN UP!!!!! They also offer training classes on a regular basis. I have't taken advantage of any of these but have heard good things. They also host adoption events. They just seem to be an all around good corporate citizen with the right priorities. I am a customer for life. read more

I came here for the first time for the dog wash, since the one by my house closed. It's a 20 minute drive and it was so worth it. They are great and stay within the COVID regulations. The products they have are great and that blow dryer is phenomenal. My dogs loved their experience and so did we! read more

Pleasantly surprised. I actually found this business through Yelp when searching for another dog groomer and decided to give it a try after picking my dog up from his nearby sitter. The male employee working Saturday morning was very helpful when I told him that it was our first time visiting and were unsure how the process worked. It was about 9:30am so the location had just opened. So for $12 (option to pay before or after the cleaning), you have access to two towels, one of three metal washtubs with water spraying nozzles, brushes, combs, shampoo and conditioner, and a blowdryer - all within a sectioned off portion of the store. I noticed a few other reviews balking at the price, but I think that's a pretty good deal for not having to deal with bathing my dog at home and having his fur clog up the drain, and for all of those supplies included. My dog and I were the only ones present for about 2 minutes (which I thought was great, since he's a bit skittish around other dogs), but two guys both entered separately with their own dogs and all of us washed in silence (loved this, no forced small talk and each of our dog's minded their own business). One of the tubs is shorter for those height-challenged patrons. The bathing area was right near the store's front window, which my dog seemed to enjoy. He usually hates bath time, but he was surprisingly calm the entire time (I think he was enjoying people-watching the passerbys). We were in and out in about 20 minutes, no issues at all and I purchased him one of the $1.99 icing covered treats at the counter after we took a stroll through the pet store portion of the store. I see other reviews noting that they wash your dog for you (which almost turned me away from initially going, as I've been searching for a place where I could wash him (outside of my home that is)), but the employee stated that it is self-wash only, and they have a $5 wash special on Wednesday's from 2-7pm. Idk who the hiring manager is at this particular store but they need a raise. All of the employees here are so helpful and friendly EVERY single time I walk in. This store should be a model for other Petcos on how to provide excellent customer service. I literally travel 20 minutes just to go to this specific location (I have had issues with another location nearby me). They're always helpful with keeping me in the loop about restocks, price matching, and answering any questions I have about products. The pet wash is a major plus also. read more

The place is convenient because of location but the staff and facility leaves much to be desired. The self dog wash has product that is extremely diluted, my dog smelled exactly the same upon leaving except he was wet. Today I went to get a bag of dog food and after walking through an open front door, the employee behind the counter yelled to me "we're not open yet and won't be for another hour". Confused, I responded "I apologize the front door was literally wide open" and he said "well that's because we're unloading a truck". Very strange way of communicating with the people who keep you in business but hey, there's a Petsmart 8 mins away that I can give my money to. read more

This place is a gem. It's only a minute away from my home. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. I'm here every other week to give my Pom a bath at their dog wash station, which is SUPER convenient by the way. The bath area is regularly cleaned and tidied. I'm also extremely thankful for their doggie dryers. It takes ages drying my mini-chewbacca, and these dryers help dry my ball of fluff in no time. read more

Since Charlie had his first round of vaccinations at home in NYC, a girl and her pup was back in the DC/NOVA area when he was due for his second round of vaccinations this past weekend. Luvmypet hosted their vaccinations clinic at this Unleashed by Petco location. First off, I am digging the Unleashed by Petco brand. It has less of a grocer/flourescent *twilight zone theme song playing in background* aura about it. Store is clean and organized and carries everything you need for dogs and cats. It was my first time taking charlie and I think him and I were both a bit overwhelmed with everything going on. We weren't the only ones getting shots and he was anxious to play with all of the people and dogs. Sorry charlie but you're still a baby and have to wait until you receive all of your shots. The Luvmypet vet staff were very helpful making sure Charlie got the treatment he needed. The vet and his assistant administering the shots were very thorough and caring with Charlie. The Petco staff were very accomodating and love animals. I am very happy with my experience here. Another round (or two) to go! Self service dog wash for $10 including product, towels, and dryer? You can't beat it! Plus the staff does a fantastic job of keeping the washing stations clean after each use. One recommendation is that the hot/cold water is way too sensitive. I'm always on the verge of either scorching my pooch or freezing him; it's hard to find a comfortable temperature. Store is comfortable, clean, and has all the products you need without feeling like an over-sized warehouse. Plus, the staff is friendly and helpful every time I walk through the door. In a time where good customer service seems like a thing of the past, Unleashed by Petco is getting it right! Unleashed is the boutique side of Petco. This means it is a little pricier and smaller with less selection...however some of the quality is better. I This particular one has a place to wash your pooch for about $10 so you don't have to deal with the mess at home. They are always very friendly and happy to help. I've been a patron the self-serve dog wash on Van Dorn St. since it opened, although I do not bathe my dogs there frequently. The covid outbreak kept me away for a while. Over the years I've put up with a lot as a repeat customer. Initially, they had problems with the water, and the temperature swings were challenging. But that could be fixed (and was). Early on they diluted the shampoo significantly. The pet blow dryer broke down, which happens. For a while they were rationing their (small, thin) towels. More recently, they stopped offering aprons. (I was told that customers were stealing them.) The price has increased three times, with the justification that they are offering 'more'. I don't mind the current price of $15, but disagree that the service has improved. The last straw for me is the 30-minute time limit, with an extra $15 charge if you exceed it. (Not sure if the manager Michael said it was $15 for each extra 15 mins, or for each extra 30 mins. Whatever.) Doesn't matter if you are the only one in the bathing area on a weekday, or if you have to wait to use the one shared blow dryer they offer when there are multiple customers. So this place may work for you if your dog is small and/or short-haired, and the blow dryer isn't needed. But they have lost my business. (Manager Michael was fine with that.) read more

The Reek of wet dog smacks you in the face when you first walk in.... everything is really over priced. I still don't understand why a litter mat was $29. If I didn't really need it and could have waited, I would have ordered the same online from another retailer for half the price. The sales woman followed me around, and this place is small let me tell you, I don't know why she was following me around, it was pretty unnerving though. The layout of the place is confusing at best, I know it's small but finding what I was looking for wasn't fun. I paid for my item and left. Pros: New, clean, helpful employees, what more could you ask for? They have a dog/cat wash station, plenty of animal clothes, toys & treats, a huge NATURAL food selection complete with samples! It's in a great location as well. Cons: UPDATE: BE CARFUL you dont burn your pet, the water turns hot to ice cold to burning hot, management is aware of the problem (they said the construction workers did not install a temp. gauge like they were supposed to). Very dangerous. Also the one drier they have is very strong/violent they should have a regular hair drier for sensitive pets. read more

This place has 3 tubs, unlimited towels, shampoo and water and they throw in a hair dryer, a brush and a scrubber thingy for during the wash. We had to travel a bit to get to this place but we made a day out of it with errands on that side of town. For $10 per dog, we'll definitely make this trip again! read more

I went into the store twice within the hour (I forgot pee pads the first time) and on both visits every single person I encountered was so beyond helpful. Even outside of the simple greeting upon entering the store, the cashier made sure that I understood the promos going on and helped me maximize all of the deal. This is a great Unleashed location. They have free weekly puppy socialization classes for dogs under a year old and the classes are conducted by weight so you really don't have to worry about your dog being bullied or behaving too obnoxiously for the others in the group. This store also has a good selection of dog treats, toys, and clothes, and a reasonably-priced self dog wash center. We love shopping in here with our pup because the staff is always friendly and our dog loves coming here because she usually gets a complimentary cheese treat of the sort we never bring home! My go to pet supply store! They're always friendly and happy to answer any questions. I'm there at least once every couple weeks and have yet to have a single bad experience. My dog gets super excited every time we come here... Mostly because he likes to try to "steal" toys from the shelf. They also have very reasonably priced training packages. read more
