Booked Upland's event space for our wedding reception. The staff were absolutely wonderful, made sure everyone was happy with food and drinks the whole night, and even sent my husband and I home with leftovers and a bottle of wine they had packed away for us. We live in Washington, DC, so planning was less than easy for us on many things because we could not see places beforehand. However, Kelly Hogan made sure to send me tons of photos and even a floor plan showing different ways we could arrange tables in the space. She emailed back and forth with me a ton, and made planning from a distance as easy as it could be. They were also very accommodating of dietary needs - we have some family and friends who are vegan, I myself at the time was vegetarian, and they had dishes available for all dietary needs. They also let us bring in our own desserts, so we brought in cookies rather than a cake. They don't set up decorations, but it was easy to figure out a time where we could send people to set up for us. They were very flexible in helping us plan all the set up and tear down. They also gave us access to their speaker system so that we could play our own music, as we did not have a DJ. Finally, the food was great and every single person was professional and kind to us and our guests. An excellent experience, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable, casual wedding reception location. read more

Always a great go to on Sunday afternoons. Really down with the new Herrmann Valley Weizen. Sampled the Oktoberfest and Weizen before making a decision. Food: Nachos for the table is plenty! The menu has a wide variety as usual and is reasonably priced for the portion size. Pro tip- split an entries because the beer is filling! Atmosphere: Great to see such a wide age group of pre-soccer game fans dining out. Dogs on the patio are a nice touch for families. Super busy as usual so got a very tiny table for two next to high traffic ramp to hostess stand. Held my bag on my lap since I didn't want a server to trip over it! Delicious beer. Outstanding food. Upland never disappoints. I love the fact that my kids can come here and hangout for dinner with us. All of their beers are very different, but you can definitely find one you like. My kids love the pizza and French fries here. Still going strong with the 4 stars. By far the best location of all the Upland taprooms and restaurants available. Visited in mid-May with beautiful southern Indiana weather. Got to sit outside on the patio while a music festival was setting up with soundcheck in the parking lot next door. Families, babies, and dogs abound. Upland is one of my favorite Bloomington restaurants. The food is usually very good and the beer is excellent. I love Upland Wheat and it's at its best cold and straight out of the tap at the restaurant. The Bad Elmer's Porter is great if you like heartier beers, it has a nice hint of coffee. I also like the Amber ale a lot. The menu is really interesting. There's a nice selection across all price ranges. Burgers and sandwiches for under $10 as well as more expensive, fancier entrees. They also have weekly specials that are always worth considering. On my last visit I had the Ahi Tuna special, and it was delicious. I also love the whipped sweet potatoes that come as a side with some of the entrees. If you're looking for something lighter the Toasted Coconut Salad is really yummy, especially with the orange vinaigrette. For dessert the Carrot Cake is delicious. I uploaded a few photos of my most recent meal, so take a look :) Upland gets super busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait if you visit after 6 on a Friday or Saturday. Tonight was my first time here and hopefully I will never have to return. It was a large group of 20 for my granddaughters birthday. They don't take reservations. The waiter was incompetent,slow,hardly ever saw him. My food was cold. I ordered nachos with chicken and guacamole. There was probably $.10 worth of cool children, no flavor. The cheese was scarce, not melted, the plate was too small for a bunch of chips. The waiter never came back to ask about the food. You had to ask him if you wanted something to drink such as more water. Their choice of beverages was limited to their beer. I am not from this area. I don't drink a lot of beer so water was my option. We had to run the waiter down to get our bill. He was outside smoking. When he finally brought the bills I had my daughter charge ours to one of my cards. When she got the charge back it was $40 higher than our bill. It's not hard to add two tickets together to know it's wrong. When she got his attention he started arguing with her. I said let's get the manager. He smarted off you don't need to involve the manager. I said yes we do because you are wrong. Finally the manager got invoked to allegedly straiten it. Now I have two charges on my card for two different amounts. I received alerts from my credit card company showing the different amounts. The manager said the higher charge is only pending and has been reversed. We will see if the one drops off. read more

I love the vibe here! And the people working there are amazing. I used to come here alot for their salad with grill salmon, which was really really good, but I think they stop serving it. After going there for so many years, from the last couple of times I was there, I feel that the food is not as amazing as it used to, but don't get me wrong, its still okay. I still go for the amazing atmosphere and beer, but I won't especially go out of the way for the food like I used to at this place. Still, great job with all the staff! I came here looking for a place to have a drink and some food not expecting much. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. First off, don't expect to come here between 7-9 on a weekend and get sat quickly. They were PACKED. Luckily, I was by my lonesome while traveling for work so I bellied up to the bar for immediate service. When you quickly look at the menu, you notice it is very american which usually bores me, but after digging in a little closer you see some unique offerings. Stack on top of that the fact that they source nearly everything locally and prepare it from scratch and you've got me reeled in. I ended up choosing the falafel sandwich based on the bartender's recommendation that the sandwich is a better deal than the entree since it comes with a side and basically the same amount of falafel. It was delicious! Fresh veggies inside the pita along with Hummus and Tahini and maybe a bit of cayenne for heat? I also had a few of their beers which were delicious as always...no need to come here for their beers, they are pretty plentiful at your nearest liquor store. Anyone who knows me....knows that I am a huge sucker for bread pudding which they had on their menu. I ordered it and out came a gargantuan plate that could have fed 4 people. The bread pudding was of the chocolate variety which I did not care for. I am definitely a traditional bread pudding guy with caramel and raisins as the only things I tolerate. If you are like me, pass on this dessert as you will be disappointed. I will definately be back here to try another item off their menu and to have another drink next time work sends me down to B-Town. Thanks Upland! read more

Upland is one of the best breweries in the Bloomington area! They are very vegan and vegetarian friendly! Their food is delicious with rotating foods based on the season. You can't go wrong here. The atmosphere is warm and spacious and the food is spectacular. The flavors and presentation of the dishes really showcase local ingredients well. I got the sweet potato gnocchi with garlic cream sauce and seared route vegetables and it was spectacular. My boyfriend got the salmon and it did not disappoint. My sister and I didn't get what we ordered, and the waiter just kept apologizing. We weren't upset, and he took care of it. He went above and beyond, however, and that's why I'm writing this review. When we discovered our sandwiches weren't what we ordered, he immediately apologized. He then said we could keep that order (it was taken home to our nephews), and then he had our order remade. Once we got our new order, he said it was on him. So technically, we got 6 meals for the price of two (mom and brother had the right order). We weren't upset because we know things happen. Our 30 minute experience here was atrocious. As alumni visiting for the weekend, we were very excited to come back to Upland which was a great place to eat and drink when going to school here 2 years ago. Little did we know the waitress was the sole reason for our quick departure and horrible experience. Fifteen minutes after being seated, the waitress, Charissa, went out of her way and did us a favor by acknowledging us for the first time. After initially ordering drinks we then received a dirty look after saying we were just ordering drinks for the time being and would order some food later. A friend of ours then arrived to meet us and she refused to make room or allow us to pull up a chair or table. He then sat at the table by himself behind us and when he asked for a glass the waitress said that table was not part of her section so she didn't know if she could help him. Like really!? It was after that we decided we had enough and could not leave our friend sitting at a table by himself with no service so asked for the check. We then received the most shocking look from our waitress as if she could not understand why we would ever want to leave her lack of help or service. Needless to say I do not think we will be returning thanks to Charissa's awful waitressing and people skills. Basically, if you would actually like to be treated like a paying customer, let alone a human being, then you should hope to not be stuck with Charissa as your waitress. read more

I like Upland, but I don't particularly like coming here. How does that work, you say? I like their food, and I really like their beer, but the service here just always seems to suck and the atmosphere is awful. Actually, I should clarify. I've had good service when I've sat at the bar. However, the bar is perpetually packed. Seriously, it seems like you have to get here at 3pm to get a seat at the bar. Maybe these people know something. The main dining room is crowded, noisy and uncomfortable. Considering the price of many of the items, I don't understand why you would pay over $15 for a meal served on a small wooden table crammed into a corner while eight flies buzz around you and you can barely hear each other talk. The patio is nice, unless it's hot, then it's unbearable. The servers here always seem to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder. There's an attitude and a resistance to not doing things their way, whatever that way may be. Or maybe they just suck... Last time I was there, the guy would disappear for a while. Something was very wrong with the salad dressing, but I never got the chance to tell him. I ended up going up to the bar, and getting more attitude from a different server about it, when she could have just said, "Oh, I'll get a new one for you" and everyone would have left happy. Then he tried to overcharge me for the beer I got, which is actually the second time that's happened to me there. I think I'm done with this place for a while. I'm going to wait until they move their brewing operations to the new facility and remodel the restaurant, and then I may try them again. I've eaten here three times and have had a unpleasant experience each time. They are always out of the special (but never, ever, EVER erase it from the chalkboard) and often out of ingredients for items on the regular menu. The food is okay but overpriced....there isn't anything especially interesting on the menu, mostly just burgers and such. The beer is okay, but I've been to better breweries. The last time I ate here, they were out of the special and my first two choices on the standard menu (it was 5pm). The nacho appetizer we bought was cold with congealed cheese. The waitress then served me the wrong meal. I told them this, but they still charged me for the incorrect order despite it being more expensive. By this point the hostility between the waitress and I was palpable, so I just paid and left. The dining room is also horribly designed, there isn't any sort of insulation so it is extremely loud and often difficult to hear people sitting across from you. Anyway, I've wanted to like this place but despite giving Upland chance after chance, I've finally come to the conclusion that it is just a bad restaurant. read more

Weather was perfect so we snagged a table outside. I ordered a Helios, my mom ordered the Wheat Ale. We promptly switched after tasting one anothers... despite the descriptions, I felt the Wheat Ale was more citrusy than the Helios. We both ordered classic burgers, mom's "medium" and my "medium well" were both damn near "well" but they were still delicious and better than any burger I've had in South Florida. Fries were stellar. I enjoyed this brewery but wish they would let you have your choice of what beers you want in the beer flight rather than forcing you to have the entire one side of the menu and only getting two from the other. Because of this, I think I maybe really liked 3-4 of the eight beers, partly because some of the others were not my favorite style. However, the amber was awesome and I don't even care for ambers that much so that's when you know a beer has been done well. Tropical Gose was also my other fave. I feel like they did this so well, they should venture making more gose! I enjoyed the fries- steak fries with a great batter as well as the swordfish tacos. 1 Pitcher of Upland Wheat Beer 1 Classic Black Bean Burger 1 Seitan Teriyaki Burger = 2 happy and slightly drunk patrons I must say, I had some worries when I ordered the black bean burger that it would be one of those flimsy morningstar burgers just heated up in a pan, but I was joyfully surprised that they had indeed homemade a thick, well-spiced burger. The five stars is because of how delicious that burger was. Also, thick yet still crispy fries are hard to find, and Upland has perfected these. Props for the wheat beer! I disagree that Upland is bad for vegetarians. This is Bloomington, after all, so they have to have *something* for we meatless ones. They got some seitan stuff, hummus, pizzas... you know: meatless things. To curb my cravings for burgers during college, I'd get their veggie burger. Later in life, I moved on to the comfort food like their macaroni and cheese, which I actually sometimes dream about. It's very garlicky. Life isn't worth living, or worth dreaming about, if garlic isn't somehow involved (or playing a major role), hence dreams about garlicky mac & cheese. I enjoy the seasonally changing desserts as well. I don't live in Bloomington no' mo' but this was my favorite place while I was there. I've had all their beers, and all their seasonal beers, blah blah, loved them, miss them, am sad without them. Don't be a hater just because sometimes they're out of something or sometimes they're busy. Just go on a Tuesday afternoon or something and everything will be fine. (And I know the haters can go on a Tuesday afternoon--class ain't really a full time job sometimes.) If you're from out of town and visiting, Upland is really one of the better places in all of Bloomington, so check it out. And their beer is better than Lennie's. I said it. read more
