HONEST & Family owned! I am so glad I did my research & found Upland Sewing & Vacuum! I took my sewing machine in to get repaired & they were able to fix it! Grant it my machine is from 1985. It just had a loose wire, needed to be recalibrated & cleaned! They were responsible too! So worth going to them! They also sell machines, some fabric, quilting accessories,etc. PS I had taken my machine to Moore's in brea ,they said I needed a new motor that was no longer available . Never have I ever heard an employee speak to an employee with such disrespect. It is my understanding that the older person is "grandma" and the employee is her grand daughter. I feel so very bad for the young lady. She is kind, goes out of her way to be helpful, and is a pleasure to be around. The "older" person is rotten to the core. Nasty, unkind, rude, and is toxic. I will never shop here and neither will my friends after they heard what a terrible person this older person is and how she spoke to the young lady. Oh wow I am so very impressed with the help I received when coming here. I went in to try a Miele vacuum and they were so knowledgeable and helpful. I brought my old vacuum in a week later to get repaired and they called me a few days later to tell me it could not be fixed. They did not even charge me to look at it. And then they offered to throw it away for me at no charge. I would for sure go back to buy a vacuum from them. And I also would buy a sewing machine as they had some amazing ones. So far, Upland Vacuum and Sewing has lived up to their great local reputation for friendliness and customer service. They're also much faster for maintenance and repair than our previous shop. The woman who answered all of my questions when we called to ask about repairing our machine (AGAIN-ugh So hard to find decent Oldschool Bernina repairs these days!) was very apologetic that they were so backed up on repairs. Fearing the worst, I asked how long. 7-10 days she said. That's the NORMAL repair time at our old place! Very friendly people. Will update once we have our machine back and hopefully running like its reliable old self again at last. To the person who called them rude for asking questions about the repair and telling them to bring in the machine, they need to test the machine to see what kind of repairs it might need, or whether it just needs timing/maintenance. They don't have a huge staff, and their tech isn't there to troubleshoot for you over the phone. If you don't know the details, the only thing any honest sewing machine repair joint really can say is to bring it in. read more

Earlier this year in 2021, the belt on my good vacuum broke and the place I went to before to get it serviced had gone out of business. I was happy to see this place was not too far off. I had originally bought this very vacuum -- a Hoover Windtunnel -- which has the best power and suction, from them years ago! I came in and bought the inexpensive replacement belt, plus 1 to take home as a spare. Not wanting to struggle popping the belt in, I asked if they would install it for me? Of course!! And they did it for Free!! They had a nice young man handle that for me. What Great Service!! Now I can happily use my favorite vacuum!! read more

Due to my allergies, I was advised to purchase a vacuum cleaner manufactured by a company called Miele (pronounced like Sheila). Like 99.9% of the people out there, I had never even heard of this brand. After some investigation, I found this business in Upland that happened to carry it. When I went there, it took a bit of time to get some service, due to the fact that the employees were all in the back room. However, I was eventually helped out by an extremely knowledgeable woman who knew a great deal about Miele and spoke very highly of it. After some discussion, and me hammering her with an endless stream of questions, she convinced me that Miele was the brand for me. I can assure you that I would not have received the same level of service or information if I had gone to one of the big box stores. You should know that the Miele vacuums are not inexpensive, but I'll be damned if it wasn't a masterpiece of engineering and an extremely powerful vacuum that is extremely quiet. All in all, I'd have to say that I was pleased with my purchase, and was fortunate to learn about it from an extremely knowledgeable salesperson. read more

The store itself was recently hit with broken water pipe resulting in a minor mess, but they are still very functional and can find any of your sewing needs. Very friendly and helpful staff. My issue is their hours need to be expanded for the CUSTOMER! I bought an expensive machine there a week ago and an EXPENSIVE accessory part that BROKE the first time I was using it. It was Saturday evening in the middle of my quilt project. But now, I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL WEDNESDAY to take it back in order to continue my quilting. If anybody who has been evolved into a project is reading this then they know the frustrationof not being able to work on what you have been focused on when you want to! Its like being put in a cage and shackled,it drives you nuts!!! Forget this stupid "Covid Hours" crap and open as usual so customers can come do what we need to do. Wednesday is too long from Saturday, and they don't even stay open a full day even then. read more

If great customer service and followup support after purchase is important to you, do not go to any other store. Material that was ordered was not protected with any bag or plastic, it was placed in a box and sent out. There were a couple stains from the movement in the box which luckily came out. Be careful if having fabric sent to you. read more

Bait and switch. They got the sale because they lied. I called for a price on Miele bags, to see if they were cheaper than the internet. The price they quoted was much cheaper. So I drove 20 minutes. Then the price was $4 more. I questioned the difference to no avail. read more

I'm giving this place between a two and three star rating. Sometimes service is good, other times not so. Yes, they are knowledgeable but it's hit and miss as far is service is concerned. The problem appears to be that they do not like to stop working on things they enjoy in order to wait on another customer. They are not skilled at working with more than one customer at a time, like they teach you in Retail 101. One time I waited almost 10 minutes for help because the sales person was on the phone going on and on and on about all the wonderful features her machine had. So you'll get their full attention if you're buying something that they like, or working on a project. But if they don't know you, or if they are busy with a fun project, you might have to wait a L O N G time! read more

Kind and amazing owners. I had my Bernina sewing machines serviced at a shop in Claremont and was NOT happy. Brought my machines here after no satisfaction from the first shop, and told them what I had paid for and did not receive. Rosalie called the first shop as she felt it was ridiculous that I should pay twice for a single repair. She made arrangements to order the part and have the first shop fix their work at no additional charge. Before that part arrived the second of my machines repaired by the first shop died after only 90 minutes of sewing. Brought that one to Upland and Lou diagnosed the issue. Since I was already bringing number one machine back to the first shop I figured let them repair this one correctly as well. Both owners were more concerned about doing right then by profiting. They never as much as implied anything against their competitor and each time tried to say that mistakes happen. Very gracious. As an aside they charge 25% less for basic maintenance than the first shop and are an official Bernina repair and dealer. Integrity and honesty are the values I found from this business. read more

Went when they weren't that busy, wandered the whole store and not once was I aknowleged as a potential customer. What is it with sewing machine dealers? Such snobs! I brought my Dyson Vacuum here to be cleaned. I called first and spoke with a man that quoted me the price of 50$ to clean my vacuum. I dropped it off a couple days later and the man was pretty pushy on me buying 3 filter for my vacuum at 25$ a piece I believe and was already ready to write them on the invoice when I told him i'd wait on the filters, he seemed like (whatever i'll just clean your vacuum then)... anyways I left it there and he said it'd take 6 business days... I called on the pick up date to make sure it was done and the man said "you won't even recognize it it's so clean"... when I showed up i definitely recognized it because it still had the dust and dog hair all over it that it had when I dropped it off. It literally looked like they just emptied the catch container and cut all the hair off the brush on the bottom. . . The only reason I went to them is because they were 14$ cheaper than Foothill Vacuum & Janitorial... I will definitely be going there next time. You get what you pay for I guess... I searched the area for a business that sells and services Miele vacuums. I came across Upland Vacuum and Sewing and was lucky enough to call in and to speak with Rosalie the owner. There are not a lot of places that carry Miele or know of their terrific quality and value. I needed a repair and Rosalie was patient and went through the various options I had in order to repair my vacuum. I liked the fact that she was honest and patient and let me make the decision as to what I wanted to do and how much I wanted to spend repairing my 10 year old machine. The fact that she provided options meant a lot as I think as consumers we all want to ultimately decide what we want to do. The repair was done within a week and everything went without a hitch. Everyone in the store was very friendly and customer oriented. I enjoy giving my business to small local stores such as this in the community. Recently took my sewing machine in trying to figure out which piece in my machine broke. After looking at my machine I was told they didn't know what broke and that it sewed horrible and they could service it. It didn't need serviced, it needs a broken part replaced. You can't service a machine without fixing it first! Very rude, will not go back and will not recommend. They were not helpful at all! read more

I am a beginner when it comes to sewing. I bought my sewing machine in July '12. Amanda showed me how to thread it, wind a bobbin, and do the basic straight and zig zag stitches before I left the store. When i got home I was able to make a sleeve for my laptop and a pair of safety eyeglass cases for my husband. I just started the new owners sewing class (which are free when you buy your machine there) with Lou and Amanda and it is going GREAT! I can not wait to learn more from those two. They are great people and offer great customer service. read more

I love this shop!!! I am not a seamstress by any means. I took on the task to make matching Xmas Jammie's this past Christmas. I also inherited the sewing machine that I learned on when I was younger. I went to use it the first night and it worked great....for 30 mins! Took the bottom off it and looked around and figured better that I not mess with this. Called the ladies and they were sooo pleasant. Took it down there and they were sooo patient with me. Took it in a couple days before thanksgiving and it was ready in like 2 days!!! Amazing!!! Started sewing the first set of Jammie's and 1 HR into it, machine got taunt and something snapped. Took it back down there explained what happened and they once again were soo patient with me!! They had it ready to be picked up same day as when their machine repair man was there! He left the part for me to show what I had broke. And it was only $10 to fix. I sooooo appreciate them explaining things to me and treating me like a genuine person. Even though they probably knew I'm not going to be there everyday as it best for me to keep my day job and not try this task again. But as horrible as the Jammie's turned out, everyone loved them and are expecting them again next year. So at least I know where the experts are and will be back again this year ladies!!
