However, during one of my meetings, my client and I were bragging about how tasty the Bagels were when a gentleman seated in the adjacent booth informed us that he was the one who delivered the delicious treats. Still, we knew the monotone in his voice indicated he wasn't happy about his delivery job. So, upon inquiring, he stated that the pay was decent but could be better considering the amount of driving and manual labor. Upper management at Uptown Bakers doesn't keep their word with the employees and appears to be consistently months late issuing bonuses quarterly. Immediately, I felt appalled and put the bagel down as he explained that his child was due to have surgery and the bonuses would help pay his copay. This company needs to do better.

I am a little sad that the donut collaboration ended, but they are still amazing. The cookie nachos allow you to get a tray of a certain number of smaller cookies with a number of frostings as the dip. For example, chocolate cookies with a cookie butter and salted caramel dip.... It's simply to die for. And the cookie pies are great for events -- you have to order it at least a half hour in advance and you get a cookie sheet cake basically. I have only had the cookie butter one so far, but it was awesome and fed a lot more than you would think. I'm not really a soda person so I haven't tried the dirty soda yet, but I did finally try the ice cream, and the salted caramel and ube were fantastic. I ended up getting the ladder between two cookies, and I realized I should probably try it with monsters next time. I found myself not being able to easily bite the cookies without the ice cream falling out. Maybe I should have gotten the cookies warmed up, but ultimately I think bigger cookies would work better. It was an excellent flavor combination. Let's see what's in store for my next cookie venture... They need to bring that Japanese Cheesecake back!!

La Espiga De Oro translates in English to Spike Of Gold…read more Whilst this immediately makes me think of the Golden Spike that connected the transcontinental railroad in the middle of the nation, and was immediately stolen by thieves (probably seconds after the ceremonial driving in); I'm assuming in Spanish that this might be a phrase similar to "Struck Gold", but to be honest, I'm not really sure. If it is similar to "Striking Gold", I would definitely say that this Bakery is very aptly named. It's your typical Latin bakery with fist-sized and larger pastries in large glass shelving units with glass doors on the front that are self-serve. You take a large plastic Mens size shoe box and a set of tongs and just go to town. And you really go to town cause everything is like 55-85 cents. It's stupid cheap. They also have hot foods. My goal right now is to make back to try the hot food bar, but we did decide to try one of the tamales while we were there. First of all, it's the largest tamale I've ever had. It's about the size of a small burrito. It also happens to be one of the most delicious tamales I've ever eaten. 2 large chunks of fork tender pork are hiding beneath the mass of impeccably seasoned masa along with some veg and sauce. I get this and a plastic box of assorted pastries. The pan de queso is delicious. It is the most soft and supple pan de queso I've had, it almost completely falls apart as soon as you take a bite. The cheese flavor is very apparent, and it is balanced. I also try a pineapple layered pastry that is quite delicious, and a soft buttery bread with cheese on the bottom as well. It is REALLY good. I've truly never had Latin pastries that were this good. I haven't had MANY Latin pastries, but these were surely the best out of the few I've had. Can't wait to come back and try more.

It's nice and open inside and there are a few tables to sit at. Since I wasn't in a hurry, I decided to hang out. They have a shaved ice section with quite the variety of options... it's all pictures though, no descriptions. I decided to try #8 because of the variety of fruit in the picture. I paid for it and they gave me a buzzer -- not used to buzzers for dessert spots, so that's neat! As I was paying, I observed all the snacks on the counter. Yummy! I grabbed a nearby table and just hung out. Before long my buzzer went off and I received a surprisingly large plate. They asked me if I wanted crema and I was like yes! And that was a great decision, as it added a delightful sweetness (not too much thankfully) to the whole package. I gotta say, it was more than I was expecting. All this fruit pretty much made the shaved ice at the core invisible. But wow it was so good! There's a lot more to explore, including plenty of savory options. It seemed a little pricey to me, but I'm eager to come back and check out the rest of the menu!
