    Various treats on display

This is a great spot for those who have a sweet tooth! The Upper Crust had many different treat options and I recommend that you give them all a try. My favorites are the mini/personal pies and their cookies. The pies are not only extremely cute but also very tastey. In addition to the mini pies, There are options to try their pies by the slice, or to take home one of their larger pies (a great option for sharing!) My favorite cookies are their peanut butter and snickerdoodle - although you can't go wrong with any of the cookie choices! There is no seating inside the shop so plan to take your treats with you! In addition to tastey treats, The Upper Crust also has cute housewares like kitchen towels, oven mitts, and aprons. I always find myself browsing as there is always something new! I highly recommend that you try out this shop if you are in the area!

Stopped by Upper Crust to get a little sweet treat this afternoon. I had a hankering for coconut cream pie, but they didn't have any so I got a chocolate cream cutie pie instead. The pie is very yummy. I can't say it's the best I've had, because a place in Topeka has better. But it was the best I can get without going to Topeka. And their mini pies are just absolutely adorable! The bakery is super cute and they have lots of little gifts you can purchase on top of the pie and cookies. And the service was great. The women working were extremely sweet!

Upper Crust is by far the best place for pie in the metro area. Hands down. It's not only got the best pie, but their cookies are delectable, AND they've got the cutest shop in their storefront. Key Lime is my favorite, but they've got great combo flavors like apple blackberry and peach raspberry. So good!!!!

    Strawberry rhubarb is my standby.

It's a good thing Upper Crust is only open four days a week because it's terribly delicious and utterly addictive. I first discovered this gem in 2018 and I have never, ever been the same. Everything else dessert-related has grown basic, boring, and bland by comparison. Don't look back: you're not going that way. I haven't sampled everything here; however, I've never been disappointed by this place. My favorite is their strawberry rhubarb pie-- tart and sweet, even better with some vanilla ice cream on top. The classic apple is always a good choice--warm it up and prepare to die happy. Their caramel apple pie is rare and obscenely delectable -- DO NOT MISS THAT OPPORTUNITY! Their crust is flaky, buttery, and it pairs perfectly with the fruity goodness inside. The sugar sprinkled atop is their signature and what can I say? I never want any other pie again (don't tell my mom, okay?!). It's pointless. I can always count on sister-owners, Elaine and Jan, when I need to bring a treat to a get together. I have called numerous times at the last minute and they're always kind enough to set something aside or help me get a hold of the perfect little something. While pie is the star of the show, their pecan bars are equally delicious--salty n' sweet-- maybe just sinful! Also: did I mention they have the perfect hostess gifts? Tons of thoughtful presents for people you love, or just get yourself those darling oven mitts with dogs on them, you deserve it! I miss the days when I could come here with a friend and grab a cozy little table and enjoy a slice together. But you can take it to go and find a spot to sit outside-- or, if you're me, scarf it down in the car on your drive home. I love this place, I can't get enough, and it's always just what I'm craving. Go there immediately!

Raspberry Rhubarb and Blueberry mini pies!

Super happy people work there. They treat you special when you visit. The pies? MMMMMMMM! Got a slice of Cherry pie and highly recommend. Also got a version of a banana bread scone and it was also great. Took the two mini pies home and they were awesome. The fillings are wonderful. The crust is hard to describe. It is like thin layered Baklava pastry. Not exactly the same but in that area. Very flaky/pastry like. Quaint little shop. Sat outside to eat a slice of Cherry pie to enjoy the weather. A little pricey, but worth it. I will be back!

Grabbed a couple of mini pies to celebrate 3.14 day! We tried the bumbleberry, the chocolate and the lemon curd pies. They were all delicious!! The bakery is super cute and the staff was friendly and helpful on a very busy day!

To step through its threshold is to surrender to the siren song of warmth that curls from the oven like a whispered secret. I have made it my pilgrimage to traverse the entirety of their menu, a culinary odyssey that has yielded no false steps, only a symphony of consistency that borders on the miraculous. Each offering, from the flaky, golden architecture of their pastries to the robust, honest comfort of their savory fare, is a testament to the artisan's hand. Here, affordability is not a sacrifice of quality but a generous invitation, a rare confluence where the exquisite meets the accessible. There is a certain magic in the air at McLain's, a sweetness that feels woven into the very fabric of the establishment. It is a place that understands the language of comfort, speaking it fluently in the dialect of a perfect crust or the rich, dark notes of a expertly pulled espresso. It is perhaps no surprise that such a bastion of authentic delight has garnered a reputation that extends far beyond our local borders; if the standard of excellence is high enough to grace the plate of Taylor Swift, then surely, it is more than enough for us, the grateful residents who claim this treasure as our own. Yet, beyond the flour-dusted counters and the glowing glass cases, my deepest admiration is reserved for their spirit. In a world that often measures worth in cold, transactional metrics, McLain's chooses to honor those who pour themselves into the future of our community. As a teacher, I feel that recognition in the small gestures, the welcoming nods, and the genuine appreciation they extend to educators. It is a profound kindness, a recognition that the work of shaping minds requires nourishment, both intellectual and literal. They understand that a classroom is a marathon, and they act as the essential pit stop, providing the fuel that keeps the light of inquiry burning bright. To dine at McLain's is to participate in a ritual of belonging. It is a place where the passage of time is marked not by the ticking of a clock, but by the turning of the oven trays. It is a reliable heartbeat in the neighborhood, steadfast and true, offering a reprieve from the clamor of the outside world. Whether one seeks a quiet moment of reflection over a cup of coffee or a celebratory feast that honors the simple, profound joy of eating well, McLain's remains an unrivaled steward of taste. It is not merely a bakery; it is the living, breathing soul of Waldo, a place where every bite serves as a reminder that some things in this life are exactly as good as they ought to be.

The rolls were good looking and ready when we got there. They normally serve sandwiches and soups but because it was before the holiday, they weren't offering it. They did have several pastries and other goodies so we got a few to try. The service was good and everyone was helpful. The interior wasn't huge but they do have some seating. The rolls were good. They were pretty large and were a bit dense. I like all bread so no complaints from me. My boyfriend felt they'd be better suited for making a leftover turkey thanksgiving sandwich. Either way, they were good. We snagged a lemon bar and a cherry pie crumble bar. The crust on both was pretty thick. They both had good flavor but I found myself wishing for a bit more fruit filling on both but especially the lemon bar. The cherry pie bar was my favorite between the two but both were delicious. I'll definitely be back and I hope to try a few of their other offerings.
