Upper Crust on Harvard Street in Coolidge Corner, Brookline is the best place to go when in need of a quick bite before going to a movie at the Coolidge Corner movie theater. It ain't fancy inside, but gets the job done and one slice is more than enough for this pizza lover. The pizza is thin sliced and the pepperoni was spicy and a little greasy but that's the way I like it. My mouth is watering just reliving the experience. There were other ready-made pizza options on order but pepperoni is my go-to. They seem to do a vigorous take-out business. The place was full but not crowded on a Thursday around 6pm. I've had pizza from the Brookline location several times, and it's been a pretty reliable thin crust slice. It always smells delicious walking by, and they have huge pies in the glass for you to choose from. On this particular evening, I was at an event where we ordered a bunch of different pizzas to try, and it was actually better than normal - all of the pizzas were still very hot and fresh, and the crust was nice and crispy without being too chewy (some of the past times have been too chewy). I really enjoyed all of the flavors below as well: Boylston BBQ (Signature Crust, BBQ Sauce, Shredded Mozzarella, Breaded Chicken and White Onion.) - Probably my favorite go-to pizza. The crust is delightfully crispy and slightly chewy, and the BBQ sauce is nice and tangy. There is the right amount of cheese, and the chicken is breaded and nicely seasoned. Though I'd probably prefer red onion, this is a very reliably good BBQ chicken slice. The Fenway (Signature Crust, Housemade Pizza Sauce, Shredded Mozzarella, Italian Sausage, White Onion and Green Peppers.) - This has been hit or miss and today it was a hit. Sometimes, it can be a little saucy and I'm not crazy about the sauce, but tonight it had the right ratio and there wasn't too much sauce. The cheese stuck to the crust nicely and there was a lot of sausage, giving each bite a healthy portion of meat. Really hearty and filling! Hancock Hawaiian (Signature Crust, Housemade Pizza Sauce, Shredded Mozzarella, Canadian Bacon, and Pineapple.) - This was the first time I tried this and while some people may not like pineapple on pizza, I really do. This particular pizza had a bit too much sauce which was tough to eat on thin crust pizza as it gets a bit soggy and heavy on top, but it also had a good amount of pineapple and canadian bacon which was great. The canadian bacon was especially plentiful and thick, which added a nice saltiness to the tangy pineapple. The ratio of sauce to cheese to toppings was great, but like I said before, it was a little off when compared to how thin the crust was. All in all, a solid experience today - 4/5 and I'd definitely have a few of these again next time I walk by! read more

Here's the thing, I love Upper Crust Pizza. I'm usually a fan of thick crust, but I think they are so good at balancing their flavors that the thin crust works well. The location is right in Coolidge Corner and I had it delivered to my house (free to Brighton!), but the experience was definitely 3-star worthy. We ordered a large Caeser Salad ($8.50) and a large Vegetarian GOAT pizza ($22). The big problem is with that salad. As you can see from my picture, that is not an $8.50 salad. A couple pieces of romaine, some shaved parmesean, lemon wedges, and Ken's salad dressing in the bag. Ridiculous. We expected it to be huge and loaded with toppings, but this was snack worthy and just thrown together. Was really salty about that. The Vegetarian GOAT pizza is great and definitely worth the cost. It's huge and loaded with a multitude of flavors. I love the goat cheese and artichoke hearts on top. The problem with my pizza came because it was delivered. Upper Crust apparently uses DoorDash for delivery. So even though I got a text from Door Dash that my pizza would be here in five minutes, that driver clearly got another ping and 30 minutes later our pizza arrived ice cold. It was only 10 minutes past the "expected time window,"but because he had clearly just been driving around with it we got cold food. Also, we had tipped online and drivers for DoorDash don't get the tip (DoorDash is complicated as they use tips to offset their payment to drivers) which made me upset - had I known in advance, we would have tipped in cash. I might go back to this location for pickup, but only for pizza. Avoid the salad at all costs, just really really not worth it. read more

After eating here, I can finally say that I've tried all three pizza places at Coolidge Corner!! My judgment: Upper Crust is probably the place to go to when you need a quick and easy option. It was that quick and easy! With the convenience that you get from Upper Crust, I would say you lose out on some of the atmosphere and flexibility in personalizing your pizza that you can get from its other two competitors. Upper Crust is a bit run-down, yet has a very classic small pizzeria feel. If we are going to compare atmosphere and aesthetics, Otto's and Oath Pizza feels more modern and would be more appropriate for date nights or dinners with friends if atmosphere is important. At Upper Crust there are no options for personalizing your pizza like you can at Oath Pizza. However, other than being a quick and easy option, a pro of Upper Crust is that their pizza slices are HUGE! Definitely very filling and worth your buck. It is a delicious sandwich based on the following criteria: (1) crispy, flavorful, mildly spicy outer coating, (2) juicy meat on the inside, (3) good ratio of meat to greens, pickle slices (gotta have the pickles), the mayo/dressing, and (4) soft brioche-type bread. This is a great location right next to the movie theater in Coolidge Corner. Another plus is that they sell slices. It was $5 for a slice of pepperoni, which is pretty steep but they are big slices. It's really clean inside with plenty of seating. The pizza is fine, nothing special but decent enough by Boston standards. I wouldn't make this my go to place, but it's convenient for grabbing a slice after a movie. The only thing that was kind of odd was that the pizza had a strong garlic taste without any discernible source. Maybe there had been something else in the oven with lots of garlic, maybe that's how it always tastes. Not sure. I'd probably go back next time I'm in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

Talk about mixed feelings. I decided to try this place for the first time and ordered a meat lovers pizza. On my walk home, the pizza smelled so good that I reached in a grabbed a piece. It was delicious. Stiff enough crust that I could use one hand to eat it without too much flop. I raved about the pizza to my friends and we finally decided to all order some. We ordered 1 Cheese, and 1 Pesto Chicken. As you can see and read on the Uppercrust website, the pizza has a pesto base with chicken and cheese. The pictures attached are what we ended up with. A skimpy amount of pesto sauce drizzled on the pizza, paper thin crust, dry chicken, and NO cheese. ***Pro Tip for the owners: Pizza is made with cheese. I tried reaching out to Uppercrust via email but have not heard back from them for over 3 months. Unfortunately taking the risk of ordering bad pizza is just not worth it. Crossing my fingers that Upper Crust would live up to my memories of when I ate at the Charles St. location as a student, this time I visited the one in Brookline. I had two yummy thin-crust slices here, and while the pie menu looks great, the slice selection leaves something to be desired. The day I visited, the four slice selections were pepperoni, a slice with bacon and ranch on it, one with Italian sausage and ricotta, and finally one with buffalo chicken and blue cheese. Not even margherita... what's a non-meat eater (not describing me here...) to do? There's a cooler of free water for customers, which is kind, thank you very much. It's definitely okay, methinks, to use a fork and knife for these very thin slices with heavy toppings. Unfortunately the ones here are quite thin and brittle - I broke two tines on my fork even after using it gingerly. I would come back here for a slice, especially if the slices of the day piqued my interest, but I'm also interested in checking out the two pizza places right nearby. read more

This pizza really hits home for me All of their Boston classics go so well together and you get an insane assortment of flavor with the incredible display that their pizza provides. My personal favorites are The Swellesley and The Tremont, but if you're feeling like having a vegetarian party in your mouth, make sure yo get the Patata Rossa. The Patata Rossa is the unsung hero, the way that combination of salt and crunch hits your palate, you might just fight for the next slice. This review is for their calzones and customer service. I order calzones from here once every month or 2 and they're amazing! The dough they use....it literally almost tastes like a pretzel. Best calzones I've ever had. Last time I got one though, it did come out differently and I was disappointed but I ate it anyway. I came in today and asked about the calzones and explained what happened and that I just wanted to order one and make sure they didn't change how they're doing it. If I'm going for a quick slice, I like a little thicker crust, with chewy dough, and it's gotta be cheesy. The slices my girlfriend and I got, were on the crispier, thinner crust side of the spectrum and I didn't think there was enough on the pizza itself. Nonetheless, it's a pretty casual little spot and they get your pizza to you fast. Clean restaurant with a nice staff. I would recommend others to come try it for sure. I purchased a big slice of spinach and ricotta yesterday at about 12:40pm. The server/cashier took the slice, put it on a metal tray and gave it to the oven guy to heat it up for me. I paid my $4.99!, and seconds after I paid the server threw the rest of that pizza in the garbage. I commented and he said, "well, we have to..." he stopped himself, maybe realizing how incredibly off-putting it is to pay 5bucks for a slice which was apparently actually ready for the garbage. It messed up my enjoyment of the slice, which was actually ok, and nice and crunchy, the way I like it. He said something about how they have a whole other one of this kind of pizza, up by the oven. Maybe he wanted me to think that's the one I was getting a slice of. Makes no sense since he handed my garbage ready slice up to be warmed. This was terrible customer service. Furthermore, if you have to rotate and toss so much of your food please get a slop bucket, don't add that food to a landfill. There ARE composting services, and there are still animal farmers who want that food judges to be 'unfit' for humans (unless they pay4.99 in the nick of time). This review is for the new Nashville fried chicken sandwich, which is genuinely incredible and reasonably authentic. It's a well-fried piece of meat soaked in the real, spicy oil-based liquid - most places will just sprinkle some cayenne or buffalo sauce on top of a piece of fried chicken and call it "hot chicken." Upper Crust actually takes the effort to do hot chicken right, which was both surprising and very appreciated. I think the sandwich is like 9 bucks and is much better than any chicken sandwich I've had for twice the price at local restaurants. I'm honestly partially writing this review because it feels too good to be true and I'm terrified they'll take it back off the menu soon so I want as many people to order it as possible - it's that good. The pizza here is pretty good but not exceptional. You can pop in for a large (but fairly expensive) slice that will hit the spot, especially considering there aren't really other places grab a decent slice in the South End. I have purchased from here about six times now within a few years, Every time we order we are missing an ingredient or food altogether. First time we ever ordered we got a side salad and it wasn't delivered with our meal. They had us wait over 2 hours before they would send it out again. We live just down the road. The salad was watery and mushy - never seen anything like it, disgusting. On pizza's the ingredients sometimes are missing, happened twice with meats and every time with dressing toppings. At first I just said oh well and continued eating. Today we are missing yet another topping the meat portion so all we got was a veggie pizza. The toppings are about 2.50-3.00 each if you add more on, Which means when the toppings go up so does the 15% delivery fee in which we tip. We also ask for a packet of Marinara sauce each time, and some pepper flakes which they advertise on the order form and it never arrives, not once. We also ask for Dressing toppings but have also never got it on top our pizza! These 18" Pizzas by themselves are about 25-27 dollars when you are Finish ordering. When I called and told the girl on the phone about the missing meat topping she said she'd ask the kitchen, then just said she'd take the One topping off the order. Thats all well and nice but we didn't want to be stuck with just a vegetable pizza, again with no dressing on top. These pizza's are way too expensive for upper crust to mess up on often. To always "forget" dressings and leave ingredients out. The Pizza alternatives in the area are plenty. There is an Otto's across the street, Regina PIzza, Blaze pizza, Oath, Rock City, Big Daddies, Greenhouse, the list of pizza places goes on which we have never had issues with, This was my last time ordering here.
