For due diligence, I also asked for estimates from 9 other moving businesses on Yelp, and MEAA came back with the best price. Because of the price point and the personal recommendation, I went with MEAA, though I was worried about "you pay for what you get". It turned out they were very professional and communicated well. The movers showed up 5 minutes before the appointment, wrapped everything up properly, offered shrink wrapping for a flat low rate, and best of all, were very friendly and cheerful for an otherwise stressful event (moving is always stressful to me). They were able to disassemble my complicated West Elm bed frame and put it back together perfectly. I felt my big mirrors and furniture were well taken care of. They were hesitant with moving my indoor plants so we wrapped them up in bubble wraps -- they came over just fine. We didn't point out some boxes ahead of time, so there was no planned space in the truck -- they happily offered to help move them into our car if needed. I would totally use MEAA again for my next move!

This owner Edgar is threatening legal action for his own employees being late, damaging my things,…read morenot working while on the clock, having their phone "die" and not be able to find my place for 1-3 hours, and to pay additional fees and services that I never agreed to via text, phone, email, or verbally. Let me be clear: I have used their service for 7+ years and loved them. And now this guy has the audacity to threaten legal action for me to pay fees which were never disclosed, mentioned, and never agreed to. Here is a snippet of why I am so upset: - rescheduling 2x - being late day of move (10am turned into 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and finally 3:30pm) - movers were slow (some times not working at all on the clock) - movers damaged many of my belongings - I had paid $50-$100 for food and drinks to help them have food + energy to keep moving & working (my own pocket!) - movers did not have extra boxes as requested (and promised per text) - no notification was given ahead of time for any extra payment for gas / mileage / extra day charges (as it was assumed they would have been there early AM) - movers were sitting around at times not work / packing - 30-60 minutes of time was spent eating & drinking (I was ok with this as I thought they needed food and drinks, and energy to keep moving. I assumed I wouldn't be charged for this additional time but I was) - every other time moving Edgar + another mover did an exceptional and fast job. Well worth the time + money; this time was the worse experience ever - it is not my responsibility to have the movers have their phones charged and have directions to get to a given location (they never charged it despite me offering to charge their phone) --- their phone was dead and therefore the reason for being late was "not having directions". - I had 2 different movers willing to help me, with lower quotes, faster response time, and ability to do everything as requested and extra helpers I have no income or job at the moment. I offered to negotiate a way to pay them back after I get employment. Instead, this guy messages me and threatens legal action for not paying. Who pays for employees who don't work, can't do their job, arrive to the point where you can't return a U-Haul you rented yourself, and can't use common sense to buy a cheap charger at a gas station so you can recharge your phone? Your customers are not responsible for your negligence or incompetence, or the negligence and incompetence of your employees. It's your responsibility as a manager and business owner. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM NOW OR EVER AGAIN. I suggest anyone who has had a bad experience to report them to the BBB (better business bureau) and report them for harassment, threatening their customers, and scamming for requesting their customers pay an excess of fees never disclosed to them or agreed upon. This is an illegal practice and is especially not how you treat a customer of 7+ years. Seriously you can find almost anyone with cheaper rates who do the job better, faster, and reliably.

We moved a couple of years ago and had sort of an awful experience (review available) so I was a…read morelittle skittish about using a small, local company again but it just didn't make sense for me to hire someone from the city to come down to San Mateo to move us. So after a lot of back and forth, I finally decided to hire Alex. Alex and his colleagues were GREAT. Hard-working, good listeners, respectful of our house(s) and of our possessions, great attitudes, fast as lightening... Alex came with his power drill and confidently and rapidly dismounted any furniture that needed to be broken down and put it all back together with the same efficiency in the new house. Nothing got lost, nothing got broken. Everything was in its right place as opposed to in a pile in our garage as per our precedent move. Keep in mind that as a small company, they don't have insurance and it will be up to you to provide mattress bags and plastic wrap unless you specifically ask for these materials. Alex has moving blankets to wrap valuables, but anything else has to be purchased beforehand by the customer. The truck is also 12', smaller than the bigger moving companies. I highly recommend Alex and his team. I hope we never have to move again, but if we do, I'll call Alex and his power drill to come and help us and I am confident he'll bring his great attitude and his speed with him. If efficiency, professionalism and excellent customer service are important to you in choosing your next movers, do yourself a favor and call Alex.

Prior to Covid/2022 when people were going into the office and downtown Oakland was thriving, this was one of the better convenience stores in the area. It wasn't as big as De Lauer's Super News Stand, but was far less sketchy. It was much bigger than Take Five outside the Bart entrance. Actually its location was much better - between Organic Coup and Subway, across from the bank and Popeye's. At it's peak, the place had a solid card selection, plenty of beverage options, tons of snacks like chips, candy, even ice cream, and a lot of traffic was probably coming for the cigarette selection as well. Whenever I was in City Center I would grab lunch from one shop and usually pop in here for a drink and snacks. Also the owner/operator was a genuinely nice man: warm, greeted everyone, and would try to get you items if you asked. The reality is without the return of the workforce in the area, traffic and clientele has dwindled, and I noticed their stock was as well. They aren't the only ones, sadly. The Damel closed last month; the coffee shop outside of the Bart Entrance shut down due to covid and never reopened, the dry cleaners closed. Across the street the two Mexican spots closed as did Delegates. I wish the owner luck in his new venture. City Center Sundries will be missed, and I hope in 2023 things get better for downtown Oakland.

We have to move furniture and A LOT OF STUFF, a lot of heavy boxes with books and fragile stuff. Kirk with his team made it easier than we expected. They showed up at 9 AM with a huge truck and they finished at 7 PM, including 20 minutes driving. They loaded and unloaded everything, they protected all the furniture wrapping it in plastic and with blankets. Everything arrived intact, no damage, no spots, nothing lost or missing. Kirk with his workers helped us to arrange the furniture and the stuff where we moved. Also he gave us for free extra boxes and boxes with racks, for moving the clothes on their hangers, no need to clean and iron after. Kirk and his workers were very polite, careful, friendly, professional, no dragging time. The price estimated by Kirk was the final price, not surprises after. Also, the price asked by him was the best price so far, not overcharge, not exaggerated, absolutely fair and honest.
