The fur was mostly intact but it was in bad shape - lining and stitching falling apart, horrible cigarette smell, repairs done with glue that hardened everywhere. When seaching for someone to fix a rabbit fur blanket I had, Mak's was basically the only person I found in the Bay. Fortunately, she is all you'll ever need. She fix a gluing issue that the maker shouldn't have even used to start and got the blanket functioning and looking pristine. She was also an absolute delight to talk with. I had a couple of small tears in the sleeve of my fur coat. Ping immediately examined the coat to see if it was in good enough shape under the lining. She did not want me to waste money if the coat was too damaged however she felt the repairs could be successfully completed. She is an excellent furrier! The repair cost was fair and the service excellent! She also provided me with great information on how to properly care for my fur. I would absolutely recommend her. She had my repairs completed within a week. You must call ahead as the building is secure and security guard must let you inside. read more

My mother-in-law brought her coat and shawl here for a cleaning and they were not only knowledgable, but they were also very professional. The woman who was there when we dropped off the furs gave us a very interesting lesson on mink/fur care as well as quoting a very fair price for the cleaning that needed to be done. If you are looking for an A+ furrier, this is the place to go by far. She also had many racks of other coats so it seems like she is very busy, but she did mention she is the furrier for all the downtown department stores. Anyway, Mak's is great. read more

After searching for a furrier to repair and clean my rabbit fur coat and fox shawl I found Mak's. I also think they are the only furrier in the SF area so I had no choice. But Ping is very kind and knowledgeable. She answered all my vintage fur buying questions and about how to care for the pieces. Initially I went in wanting to fix the shoulders on my coat but Ping advised against it. Usually places just want to take your money but I felt she was really trying to help me and save me money. This is my first time cleaning any furs but I believe the price was very fair. After getting my furs back I cannot believe how shiny and beautiful the colors are. My black coat is so glossy and soft and my brown shawl wow the colors are amazing it looks brand new. If I buy any other furs I am definitely coming back to Mak's. Small deposit required on drop off. I highly recommend Mak's. I live in Marin, but I didn't know any furriers in the area. I ended up trying Mak's on a whim and I'm glad that I did. I've previously considered bringing my mink stole to a dry cleaner, but after doing some research online, the consensus was that going to a furrier is the way to go. She was extremely knowledgeable and gave me a lesson on how to care for fur. The location is weird. I almost turned away and assumed I had the wrong address. The outside of the building had signs saying Philippine center or consulate or something like that. When you first come in, there's a front desk to the right and the employee can tell you where Mak's is (it's on the 8th floor, number 814). I signed in and took the elevator up. Cash or check only. I called a few times before making the trip up to the City, and she was always helpful and encouraging on the phone. In person, she was very nice, helpful, generous in sharing her knowledge. She was able to identify the type of fur, evaluate the condition, identify it as an old piece, and advise me on what its likely worth was. I suggest you go here for help with your fur. I recently moved to the Bay area and needed to find someone that could clean my vintage mink stole that I bought recently. I called around to different dry cleaning companies but they wanted way too much and I was not sure that they would do a good job. Thankfully I found Mak's! They are inside of the phillipines consulate on the 8th floor. I met miss ping (wife) and she gave me great feedback on my vintage find! Ok I have never had my furs cleaned before so I really have nothing to compare to. Therefor the 3 to 4 star rating. I brought in a mink coat and blue fox coat that both needed some minor repair work done on them. The repair work was first rate. However when I picked up the coats after being cleaned they have a different look from when I took them in. They have lost their luster and shine and now have a dull look about them. I think I have seen something about getting furs reglazed and maybe that is now needed. Very knowledgeable but be prepared to pay when you drop off your furs. I guess I will look into getting my furs shined up now because they just don't have the pretty healthy gloss they had when I took them in. read more
