I've been going to Jamie for three years and I won't trust anyone else with my brows. Every time my brows turn out perfect, well proportioned to my face and handled with care. I used to have issues with breaking out/irritation after getting my brows waxed, but stopped after I started going to Jamie. I especially appreciate the ice rollers she uses afterward. Extremely disappointed with my eyebrow services with Jamie. I was a new client. Went there based on the positive reviews. First, the environment was not very welcoming or friendly, I felt entirely out of place. Didn't feel like I was greeted warmly, very impersonal. Jamie didn't engage in any small talk/pleasantries. The minimal conversation with me was forced. Didn't even call me by my name when she came from the back to get me when it was time for my appointment. Somewhat pretentious environment. Felt out of place and uncomfortable. As to the services, I was super proud of myself, It had been four or five months since I had last had my eyebrows done, so I had a lot to work with (or so I thought). I showed Jamie pictures from her Instagram page of how I wanted my eyebrows. She didn't really seem too enthusiastic to want to give me a nice arch and/or make my eyebrows pretty. Instead, she asked me if I ever had my eyebrows waxed. I was extremely offended by that question, I am 52 years old, of course I have had my eyebrows waxed before. In fact, not only have I had my eyebrows waxed before, I have had them tweezed, threaded, trimmed, tinted, laminated, the whole nine yards. I have used every eyebrow growth serum known to man. I felt like I was pegged as this "dowdy," "matronly" person who for my entire life either never had my eyebrows done, or if I did, that it was at Walmart for the $5.00 bargain basement eyebrow threading special. When I said I wanted my eyebrows to be nicely arched Jamie again didn't seem too enthusiastic and said that she will "clean them up" and put a little henna on them. Okay great, clean them up, fine, of course, but cleaning up and arching are too different things. Anyone can "clean up" eyebrows, I don't need to go to a salon to remove the stray hairs underneath the body of the eyebrows themselves, I can do that at home, it's the arching that is what is the important part. Also discussed lamination. I have had lamination once or twice before and I think they left it on too long because my eyebrows were brittle. Jamie has pictures of "buttery" laminated eyebrows on her Instagram page. I asked her about lamination/her thoughts if I could get the pretty laminated brows like the pics on her Instagram page and she really didn't respond or further discuss this with me. Again, I felt like I was pegged as this dowdy, matronly person who wasn't worthy of having pretty eyebrows, that anything would be good enough for me. So after twenty minutes and $60.00 later, (not to mention the $15.00 cash tip), my eyebrows Iook no different than when I walked in there, actually they look worse. The hairs underneath the body of the eyebrows were removed, and henna was thrown on there, and that was about it. No sculpting, barely any clipping, I have eyebrow hairs on top/within the body of the eyebrows that are sticking straight up they are so long, they weren't even touched, no brushing up of these eyebrows, no trimming. Likewise, there was no brushing down/trimming of the super long eyebrow hairs on the bottom eyebrow area, there are some eyebrow hairs that are almost an inch long that should have been groomed/trimmed. Also the same is true for the extreme ends/tail areas of my eyebrows. No trimming/no removal of extremely long hairs at the extreme ends/tail area. Eyebrow hairs that should have been removed weren't, eyebrow hairs that shouldn't have been removed were removed. Basically waxed off the outgrowth underneath the body of the brow, threw some henna on, and good enough. In retrospect, I should have just gone to Walmart for the $5.00 special, I would have $55.00 more in my pocket. Not a good experience at all. Even if I was asked to come back in for Jamie to spruce them up on a "gratis" basis I would decline. Very disappointed, to say the least. On a scale of one to ten, ten being excellent, the best ever, one being the worst experience, two through nine being in the middle, this experience is definitely a solid one. read more

I went to Stella's Haven for a lash lift and tint - which I had never tried before - and wasn't sure what the results would be. I have long lashes, but they're very gingery-blonde. Well Christine hooked me UP, and my lashes now look VERY fancy. Compared to the hundreds I would've paid for extensions, the lift/tint are arguably better since they don't require as much upkeep. Christine's space is lovely...after a while of closing my eyes during the treatment, I definitely fell asleep. I guess I was just super relaxed, and I'm not mad about getting an extra 20 minutes of nap time. Hit up Christine with all of your lash needs! I'll be rejoicing that I don't have to put on mascara for the next 6 weeks or so. read more

I have been getting facials from Christine since 2014 when she was located in the Loop. I am so crazy happy she moved out to Stella's Haven and now owns the spa! Since she became the owner she has also redone the inside so there's fully enclosed rooms for facials and waxing which provides privacy and helps give it a zen like feel. She is phenomenal with facials- My skin feels new each time I leave. I've never had any problems or pain with extractions and she's great at recommending products without being pushy. I've sporadically gotten facials in other cities but honestly nothing compares to Christine. The face and hand massage she does during the facial is also amazing! I was having a very stressful week so Stella's Haven could not have come into my life at a more perfect time. I had never had a facial before and had I known what a relaxing, awesome experience they are...I would have been doing it ages ago! The Esthetician Christine was so welcoming & wonderful about explaining everything in detail to a first timer. I had no idea what to expect and ended up just loving the experience. She said facials should be done about every 6-8 weeks - I'm on it! The facial involved a mud mask, steam, extractions, another mask and while the masks were sitting on [my now incredibly soft face], tons of massaging of my arms, hands, and shoulders. And everything smelled SO good. It was seriously just what I needed. Insanely relaxing and I left feeling like my skin was uber soft & had a new glow when I left. Stella's Haven is so convenient for me, I may need to pop in to try some of their other services. And I'm definitely hopping on-board the facials every other month train. When I heard about Mary, the products she uses and the extra attention she gives her clients, I knew I had to try. So glad I did! My skin has never looked so good. I go to Stella's Haven to visit Adrienne at the Acupuncture Authority and I am obsessed! Not only have I gotten cosmetic acupuncture numerous times with Adrienne but I have also done traditional acupuncture on my body - specifically my back and right forearm. Adrienne is professional, knowledgable and a pleasure to talk to during any service. She gives thorough explanations of everything she's doing and takes great pride in her craft. Cosmetic acupuncture requires weekly sessions that I wasn't able to keep up with to see the long-term benefits but after each session, my skin had an amazing glow and looked lifted. Yay! I got a Gilt City deal for a facial which is how I even found this place. Yelp reviews for Christine's facials were all raving about how great she was so I was excited to give this a try. It is by appointment only. It's really easy to make appointments online through their website. Street parking isn't too hard to find (not free though because it's Chicago and how often is street parking free?). I was greeted by Christine and had to fill out paperwork since it was my first time. It's such a cute place! Once I was done with the paperwork, Christine went over it with me to see what products I currently use, ask what concerns I had with my skin and what did I want out of today's facial. She looked over my skin and told me what she saw, what she thinks we should do for my skin today. During the facial I got a hand and neck massage which adds to the relaxation. She did some extractions which normally are an added cost elsewhere but it was included here! She also included aromatherapy so I started and ended the facial with some lavender to inhale and relax. I've received a few Brazilian waxes here and I couldn't be happier with the professionalism, cleanliness and skill level. Got an amazing brow tint by Jen, almost three weeks ago and it still looks great! Two days later I got a facial by Drea and absolutely loved it, it was my frist 60 minute facial, she used all natural products, gave me a take home samples, massaged my head, feet and legs and did extractions (along with all other facial steps), it was amazing... I walked out with my skin glowing and didn't even put on face makeup that night to go out. They don't have the facials listed on the website but if you call they will tell you! I had a truly wonderful experience with AJ, who was my first acupuncturist in years. There were three things that stood out in my treatment with AJ: her knowledge, background, and technique. AJ has clearly taken the time to deeply understand both eastern medicine as well as neuroscience. As someone who has dabbled in the study of Chinese traditional medicine, I know enough to identify someone with a mastery of the science, history, and practice of the craft. I felt so much more comfortable knowing I was in the hands of someone with deep experience, which is often difficult to determine. Beyond understanding, I was very impressed to find that AJ had been an intensive care nurse. As with all procedures, safety is a paramount concern. But I knew I was in good hands shortly after AJ and I started talking about her career and how she got into acupuncture after having been a nurse. It's very rare to find qualifications like these, which I feel should be a standard. Finally, I loved the technique AJ used in both acupuncture and in gua sha. I've been to see Rebecca twice now for eyelashes and She. Is. Amazing! I'm an extension newbie and at my first visit I let her know I wanted as natural a look as possible (which can be hard to do since I'm Korean and my eyelashes are non existent.) For my first visit, she took the time to explain everything and what I should/should not expect with the extensions. The application itself was a long process but hey, she's applying individual lashes. One by one. Of course it's going to be a long process! Don't underestimate her mad skills, Rebecca is a pro! When she was done and gave me the mirror I was completely floored. They felt a little weird but I looked so pretty! For almost the entire week after I couldn't stop looking at myself admiring my beautiful new lashes. My friends even commented on how natural they looked. I love, love, love Jen. I come here to get my eyebrows waxed and tinted, and Jen does such a phenomenal job. She takes her time to make sure she knows what you want and talks you through what waxes she uses/oils/etc esp if you have sensitive skin. I used to get my eyebrows waxed at Nadia Danielle, but after discovering Jen, I am a complete convert. I am very picky when it comes to letting new people wax my eyebrows (I had a botched wax awhile back and the ends of my eyebrows are still suffering the effects), but I trust Jen 110%. She is so personable and so good at what she does. I seriously cannot say more about how great she is at her job. If you're looking for a new eyebrow wax, Jen is your girl. Stella's Haven is such a comfortable, welcoming place. I had never had a bikini wax before, and I was TERRIFIED of the pain, discomfort and potential embarrassment of the experience. My first Yelp review! I just moved to Chicago so Yelp has been a huge help. I found Jennifer through this site and emailed her for a last minute appointment. Communication was quick and she was able to fit me in. The location was a bit hidden for someone new like me, but I found it. I kind of felt like I was going into a speakeasy. Jennifer is friendly and really made me feel comfortable through the whole appointment. I am very happy with the results. Thank god I found this place and thank you to yelp! Jen is such an amazing esthetician, I find that each time I have gone to her for my brazilian I forget its even happening. She's clean, she's quick, she's so much fun to talk to. She uses hard wax and has such strong attention to detail that she will use tweezers as necessary. What I also love about her is that she really loves to use natural products, so, she uses tea tree oil at the end of each session. I haven't tried one of her facials yet, but she was explaining to me that she makes her own stuff for it in the back and uses all natural ingredients. Also, this past weekend I was in desparate need of a wax and there were no available times on the website. I've seen Jen for 2 Brazilians over the past few months and she has produced the BEST results out of anywhere else I've been or anyone else I've seen in 12+ years. She's incredibly thorough without making the experience uncomfortable for her clients.
