Never got the opportunity to try the food. We checked in with the hostess. There was a 20-30 minute wait. We gave her our phone number and she would text us when our table was ready. After waiting 45 minutes and the host seating other people, we enquired about our seat. He said they won't be seating anymore people because there was a problem in the kitchen. We asked why they didn't notify us and he had quite the rude attitude saying they only text when your seat is ready. He offered no apology and walked away! RUDE!! read more

Ambiance and menu is great! Staff was really great too. Food was disappointing though. Hush puppies were ok, could use more flavor (maybe some jalapeños in there would be a nice addition). Wedge salad was ok, over dressed. My husband had the pork chops and they were way over cooked and just nothing special. I had the crab cakes and couldn't even taste any crab because it was SO overwhelming sauced. I feel like my meal would have been good maybe, but again I couldn't taste anything but the sauce so if you order this, ask for light sauce. read more

Was greeted with a friendly host, served by a super-friendly bartender and had amazing food! We will definitely be back on our next visit! Would recommend this place without hesitation! Great find! Stopped in for dinner and drinks and we're delighted to find a relaxed atmosphere with tasty 'bites' and good drinks! We sampled off both the draft menu (nice selection!) and the specialty drink list. The menu had a variety of 'snack bites' and 'big bites'. We sampled the crab cakes (nice sized pieces of crab!) spinach salad (bacon croutons...genius!) and the best hush puppies ever (they have crab in them - yum!). After visiting twice in just two days, it's safe to say this place makes great food and drinks. Being one of the only rooftop restaurants, this place leaves you filled and satisfied every time. Service was great, that's what earned them the second star, but the food was lacking and super overpriced. You will pay $14 for a salad that any other restaurant would consider a side salad. The hostess' at the front were very unprofessional and dressed like they just got out of bed and came to work. One actually called the other stupid in front of our group as she was guiding us to our table. The food didn't taste bad, but not worth the money. The drinks were also very pricey. Went here tonight with friends as we wanted some peel n eat. Called ahead, was told no wait and they don't take reservations. When we got there we were told there was a party of 11 that called ahead and the tables were reserved. We were almost done eating at the bar when the people for the reserved tables started coming in, was very apparent they knew the bartender and waitstaff by all the hand shakes and hugs. Really poor of the staff, they weren't rude, but were not friendly either. Would never return and would not recommend to anyone, your money is best spent elsewhere. To the rude disrespectful people at this restaurant ... your reply proves you have no customer service. complete joke of a place. You should apologize to people who felt slighted, the pissy attitude you received was rightly given considering your inability to address the concerns that were noted when we arrived. And I'm sure you'll be out of business in no time if you maintain your poor attitude toward those who patron your restaurant. read more

We came with a large group. On the website they say parties of 10 or more will be split. We arrive for lunch and they usher us into the lobby area and begin to seat all other parties regardless of the fact we have been waiting outside for them to open for 20 minutes. We approach them and ask to please be seated. They essentially tell us they won't seat us because our group is too large. We say that we're fine being split into smaller groups (as they specify on the website) and they say no. Whats the difference as groups are trickling in anyway? Our group tends to order lots and lots of bottles of wine and cocktails so I don't really know why they would turn us down. Big mistake. Huge. We made a point to go there after seeing that they would accommodate large parties by splitting them up. They were also kinda dickish about it. Very frustrating. We were in Corolla for a bachelorette weekend and wanted to try something new. I had heard Upside was a new spot with a great view and delicious food- and that's exactly what rang true for us. From the moment we got there until we left, the service was on point, the drinks were great and food was impressive. We sat outside on a beautiful night, enjoyed the music and carried on as nine friends do on a special weekend. Orders ranged from the special (mahi) to menu items like steak and shrimp and grits. Don't waste your time and money just to be talked down to before even getting seated. This place boasts a water view and looks appealing at first glance. We arrived and placed our name for a 30 minute wait. 25 minutes later we checked back in and they said still a 30 minute wait. The host taking names was rude to customers and had a sour attitude. We did not feel welcome, we were rushed to order our drinks and food. The host told us that we had to order or we were going to lose our table. We were only at the table for 10-15 minutes and we were waiting for my mother and sisters to arrive. It seems like upside is more concerned with making money then making their guest feel welcome. If it wasn't for my sisters birthday I would have left. When someone pays money for a service they should feel good about spending money, I definitely did not. Never coming back. read more

Waitress did tell us when we got the check - we saw on menu too. -Didn't get refill(s), Had to pour our own. Had to find our own extra set of silverware. Prices are out of the range for the food. Sorry my personal opinion: $23 for jerk chicken. $10 for beet salad w/o chicken or shrimp. That would have been an additional $5 or $6. Water was not filtered. No Sweet Tea - "What?" It was clean. My rating is based on - 20% gratuity and service didn't match. Food was ok. Price was too high. read more

We had an awful experience that this restaurant today. Our group of 12 came in for lunch. Upon entering there were 2 groups ahead of us waiting at the host stand and no host to be seen. The first group said they were told they would be seated immediately and the host went upstairs and had been gone for a few minutes. We then proceeded to wait 10 min for the host to return. By the time he sat the other 2 groups and got to us he said he couldn't seat a party of 12, that 8 was the maximum. I said that was fine, we would split up however he would like. He said that if we did that, the second party would have to wait 20 minutes before he would seat them. I asked if that was the wait or if it was just because we were splitting up. He said the kitchen couldn't handle it if we didn't wait 20 minutes in between. I asked if we would be next, and that he wouldn't seat all the people behind us and he said no, he would still seat them and our second group would have to wait 20 minute no matter what. I asked that if we had come in as 2 separate parties if he would have sat us and he then told me he would not seat our party no matter what. When I told him that we waited all that time and if he had told us right away we could have gone somewhere else and he said that he was busy doing other stuff. Incidentally, there were 6 people waiting behind us who the host was more than happy to sit. So if we had come in as 2 parties and pretended that we didn't know each other we would have been seated. We were not asking to sit near each other or even be seated at the exact same time, just to be the next two parties on the list. I have never experienced anything like this and am very disappointed in how we were treated. read more

It had been a few years since we were back in Corolla and we were checking out some new app and happy hour spots. This place is a gem in timbuck II....great drinks and interesting apps. Did I mention the views and decor? Beautiful and modern. We had a flatbread with peaches, blueberries, balsamic, and yummy cheese (and basil) - great! Our waiter, Holly (who turned out to be one of the head chefs!) made sure we were well taken care of, and knew the details of the menu inside and out, which made her recommendations for each of us on-point (she was one of the masterminds behind it after all, and clearly has a passion for what she does). This is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely deck. Great for a date, but not super great for bigger groups. They don't let you have parties bigger than 8. I wanted the strip steak so bad but unfortunately they had run out which I believe is a frequent occurrence just because it is a busy, Outer Banks restaurant. That also comes with longer waits. My sister and I went there for dinner last week. She had the lobster quesadilla and I had the crab cakes. We were both disappointed with our meals. The lobster quesadilla was mostly cheese with very little lobster and the crab cakes were 99% macaroni shells. I couldn't taste any crab whatsoever. The bartender was waiting on our table and them some folks came in and sat down at the bar and we were completely forgotten. We had to wave down a waittress so we could get our ticket to pay. Don't waste your time with these two dishes..... Plus, service not so good. For the prices we paid we expected much more. read more

Upside is the best restaurant in the area - great food, drinks, setting, and service. There is indoor and outdoor seating, both of which are very nice. There were seven of us in the group and we had a little bit of everything. I love the hush puppies and the Mahi Mahi. We have had dessert here before but did not leave room this time. I think it was a chocolate strawberry dessert, which I enjoyed every bite of and begrudgingly shared. Others in our party had steak, salads, and shellfish. Everything was cooked perfectly and brought out together - they definitely have a lot of experience serving big groups. The owner, Sherri, is very sweet and has a great team working there. Everyone was friendly and attentive and they did not mess up any orders, despite everyone ordering something different with questions throughout. Walked in here because the wait at one of favorite spots in this complex was 90 minutes. Greeted cheerfully by the hostess who had us seated within two minutes. Service from waitress was great, prompt and attentive. Food came out perfect. For anyone complaining of price- this is a real restaurant and real food prepared by a real chef. This isn't greasy take out or simple steamed seafood that you overpay for anyway at other joints in OBX. We will definitely return again. Thank you a nice meal. read more

Inflexible and not accommodating. We had a party of 10 including a baby in a high chair. We asked to have two tables right next to each other turned (not moved) so we could sit as one group in the shade upstairs on the deck. Still unclear about why that arrangement wouldn't have worked. They offered to move a different table and have us crowd another family already dining and putting us in partial sun. We left and took our $300 to another restaurant down the street.
