Situated in one of the more historic buildings of Dallas, Uptown Pub has all the essentials a good pub should have: nice service, a semi-hearty food menu, plenty of beer on tap, and friendly service. For the rowdy and seemingly nightlife laden McKinney Ave, this might be one of the least ruckus filled venues. And that's a good thing. The outdoor deck is a good place to settle down for first timers. There is plenty of opportunity for people watching and usually a calm but festive ambiance. While the interior isn't much to harp about, there is a genuinely divey charm to the bar itself and depending on the people count, a general easy flow to this place. No bueno on the bathroom situation, but most bar frequenters would know this upon entering anyway. There is no shortage on the drink front. A solid amount of beers on tap are available, though there is significantly more bottled beer and a handful of wines. There is ab 11am - 7pm happy hour every day which includes $4 wines/wells and $2.75 domestic brew. Whatever your drink of choice, it's probably fairly standard practice to grab a drink, sit outside and watch the night fade away. Food situation is really limited to sandwiches and bar food worthy appetizers. Everything ranges from $3-8, so the prices are pretty darn decent for all that is available. The Uptown Burger ($7) and Patty Melt ($8) didn't really impress as far as burgers go, but I would come back to experiment with the menu more. While the Uptown Brisket Nachos ($7) are a solid finger food choice, the Soft Tacos ($7), Buffalo Wings ($8) leave much to be desired. If Dallas were home, I'd be here probably more often than not. A good place to drink is a necessary evil and I'm told this joint has quite the karaoke nights as well as a full audio experience for major sports games on TV. I have been going to this place for a couple of years now. They go in and out of good service and back to poor/average service. It looks like it was originally a house which gives it a certain charm but that's about all of the appeal of the structure. There is a sunroom space that has a ceiling leak basically anytime it rains at all and they just set a bucket under it. The floor is slanted and shifts when you walk - definitely fun when you are tipsy. The servers say they will come to you at your table but again it is off and on if this is true. The last time I was in there last week we sat there for 20 minutes and finally went up to the bar to order. There were 3 staff members just standing by a table talking not helping customers - not sure if they were off work though. This place has a cigarette vending machine which is cool but I do not smoke. The bathrooms are always fairly clean. Nice patio space and a great location near West Village Shopping. I would recommend but I wish they were consistent. The brisket nachos are pretty great but they run out of brisket fairly often. read more

I liked this place. Why? That's easy -- 1. It was a non-cookie cutter type place. An old house that had been converted many years ago to a restaurant and more recently to a bar with food. 2. The outdoor patio is nice (with tv's) 3. They have Blue Moon on tap 4. The appetizers were good (try the jalapeno peppers stuffed with chicken -- spicy!) 5. For the amount of times I have eaten here and told friends about it, my three stars might be shocking to many. The three stars come from three main things: inconsistency, service, and cleanliness. Inconsistency: The place has the best wings I have had in Dallas and the worst chili I have had in my LIFE. The drinks are sometimes so strong (yay double pours with single prices) or watered down beyond belief. Their beer selection is underwhelming. The service also leaves A LOT to be desired which leads me to my next point. Service: The people who work here act like they hate their life. You have to order food and drinks at the bar, even if you are seated at a table and trust, you will get glares or snarky comments if they have to come up to you. God forbid! I have stood at the bar for several minutes and had the bartenders outright ignore me and choose to serve other patrons immediately while I wait. Cleanliness: This place is gross. I tried to ignore it for the wings but I just can't anymore. I doubt this place passes their health inspection because the play looks and feels dirty and most of all, SMELLS it. I'm not kidding when I say that this place smells like vomit has seeped through the floor boards and simply won't let up. It is in desperate need of a power wash though at this point, burning it down might be the only way to get that smell out. read more

It is one of life's great urban pleasures to sit outside on a nice day, have a brew or two, and watch the cool people and their cars parade up and down McKinney Ave in Dallas TX. This place has it all. Plus, from the patio this is one of the best views of downtown and the skyline that you can find. On the downside, the selection of beers on tap is extremely limited, the service is slow to non-existent (I ended up going inside to get a brew directly from the bar), and the kitchen looks kind of iffy to me. On the other hand, if you get hungry while people watching Mia Cocina and Taco Diner are right around the corner. read more

I've lived in Uptown for several years, so I wanted to try a bar I've never been to for Sunday Funday. I've driven by Uptown Pub many times, which obviously looks like a casual, chill bar with a huge patio. Positives: 1. Mimosas- it's $10 for a pitcher ($6.50 for one glass so might as well buy in bulk!) and our bartender made the pitcher VERY strong 2. Chips and queso 3. Bacon Cheeseburger (the best!) 4. Chicken fingers 5. Honey mustard and ranch 6. Large, dog friendly patio- Has flat screen TVs with multiples games on Negatives: 1. Salsa and guac (salsa tasted cheap and guac was full of onions, which I like, but had no flavor) Like other reviews mentioned, there was only one lady running the entire bar acting as the waitress and bartender. However, it was not crowded, so we were taken care of and could just walk to the bar to order more and tab out when ready. Parking isn't ample, but we live nearby and walked, so it wasn't a big deal. I had a question about how the DJ rotated singers and made the following comment/question, "If a singer come's in before you go back to the top of the list (first round) I go to the end of the line but if a singer comes in after you start the second round they get to sing next and I'm OK with that. I'm giving this three stars because my first time visiting the male bartender was AWESOME!! He was funny, suggested drinks and made them to perfection; he made them so well we decided to return. Upon our second visit I ordered a drink, I was charged the same price but given a smaller size. I took it as my memory was not good and didn't ask about it but when I tried to pay they didn't have my method of payment (Apple Pay). I had to go out and find cash which is impossible because you cannot get cash back with Apple Pay. My friend met me there and we went inside together, I didn't want the drink since it was left so long unattended but we offered to pay for the drink. The female bartender with black hair and thick glasses tried to get an attitude with us and then loudly accused me of not having any money in the midst of us offering to pay. I cannot make this up. She snatched the drink off the bar and threw it in the trash. We left immediately. I recommend this bar for the drinks but make sure you don't get the bitch that has a chip on her shoulder with cheap hair dye. It just looks like a little house in uptown, but open those swinging doors and it's Boozetown USA. My favorite part is the patio, it is a gated brick patio, with black tables and chairs strewn about in no particular order. very welcoming, very "Come on in, where the hell have you been?!" kinda feel to it. There are even TVs outside for the patio/sport lover, rolled into one. The wait staff has always done a great job by me. I was just there the other day, and our waitress had the whole patio, which was packed, and she was still a rockstar, and took great care of us, while being run ragged. Is bar food your thing? Well, saddle up partner! The burgers and sandwiches are all more than a mouthful, and delicious. My personal favorite would have to be the cheesy tater tots though. The mountain of food that came with this order, made nervous cause i didn't have my harness and carrabeaners with me. And last time i was there, someone in our group got the Chicken Stuffed Jalapenos, and my mouth must have been open as i starred at these magnificent creatures, cause i abruptly heard her say "You can have one", and then I could breathe again. They were completely fried in their shape somehow, stems and all. These things don't mess around either, as the caveman would put it, Hot Like Fire! That being said how the H does this place have 3 1/2 stars? It was absolutely FILTHY, smelled of stale beer, had visible mold in the cooler, and to top it all off I saw the cook set his cutting board (that had black mold lines on the cutting surface) on top of the garbage can!! Okay, they aren't my real friends. But in all seriousness, this is becoming a favorite spot for us to hang. They've installed a few bigger TVs, a quasi-covered patio roof and the food has improved by miles. Uno was nice enough to share some of his tots and Fin shared one of her club sandwich quarters with me... both were quite tasty. They might just have the best tots in town. Service can still be spotty but they're nice to talk to and I like their "I really don't give a shit to wait on you hand and foot" attitude. Most of the time they're hungover and have funny stories too. For example, last Sunday's story came from the bartender who dropped her keys down the elevator shaft the night before when she got home at 5:30am. She had to be back at work at 10am.
