The interior was clean but quite bland. Service during a quiet lunch took 45 minutes. There is a charge for chips and salsa. I made it known that I had an appointment and had to leave at a specific time. Every one of the 8 party members were served before me. I had a salad so this was frustrating. We ordered Skinny Margarita's for less sugar and they were fresh & easy to drink without being pure tequila.. the 4 dips and chips were the highlight of the night as the Queso, Guac, Black Bean, and Salsa was all fantastic! My fiancée got the tacos and she raved about them - while I ordered the Green Hatch Chile Enchiladas and was a bit disappointed. It came out like a big pancake of mush tortillas and chicken - the flavors were there but I didn't like that it wasn't a true enchilada.. and I found the cilantro lime rice to be quite boring & plain, just tasted like white jasmine rice. I've visited this restaurant 2 days in a row. The first night was just for a drink, the bartender was very friendly as was the whole staff. The food being served around me looked so good i returned the very next night for dinner. I had the Baja shrimp tacos. Patiently waiting, we noticed a table open up at the bar. We asked for it and was told it was reserved, then another table came available. They were telling us it a six too and there is only 3 of us. I told hostess we would share the table.... At this time she said we have a reservation for this table too. They couldn't make up there minds on what excuse to use next. That first bite is always the test for me, and this past with flying colors!!! The scrambled eggs were the absolute fluffiest I've ever had!! Most typical scrambled eggs are dense, but not these!!! The ham and sausage used are amazing together, and that Hatch Green Chili Sauce is a taste sensation!!! The scalloped potatoes are creamy, flavorful and just perfect!! Hubby ordered the Enchiladas &Eggs and let me floor you with that!!! It is served as flat, not rolled, which is impressive, then his over-easy eggs and covered with that spectacular Hatch Green Chili Sauce!!! He was in heaven with the first bite!!! This is truly a unique eatery, with not typical Mexican food fare, which is SOOOOOOO needed, especially in this area!!! How often do you get to refer a restaurant and have everyone love the food, the service and the ambiance? This is one of those places. The staff - manager, wait staff and the Owners all work hard to make the guest happy. This is a from scratch kitchen so everything has to be marinated, prepped and cooked. I found Urban Margarita through Restuarant Week Spring 2019 and have been returning each Restaurant Week but also at other times during the year. All the food we have had is tasty, well prepared and a joy to eat. Have you tried their Lobster & Crab stuffed Poblano peppers and their Jalapeno cornbread is to die for and I'm NOT a fan of jalapenos but that bread is amazing. I am told their bar items are amazing - and they have a long list of margaritas. I like the virgin prickly pear one! read more

And way over priced. $5 for an iced tea. $6 for a side of beans. It was over $60 for two people for lunch. They don't serve chips and salsa like a typical restaurant, you have to pay extra. I'm besides myself. We boxed up the majority of our food "to go" and tossed it in the trash on our way out the door. There were only 3 other groups there for lunch at peak time. I really wanted to like this place.... We have driven past a few times and finally went in for dinner and drinks. Wasn't very crowded but they only had two servers running the whole place-one inside and one outside. I started with the blood orange margarita-which was great. We ordered drinks and a chip and dip trio. We were not planning on a huge meal. Just snacks and maybe one or two cold drinks. We kept getting checked on by waitress....which would be fine except she was visibly bothered that we weren't planning for a full meal. At one point manager and waitress stood staring and then waitress came to clear the table. We were still nibbling and talking. How rude and unwelcome we felt. The rice, which was suppose to be cilantro lemon flavored was super bland along with the black beans that were just okay. Second time we've been here and didn't go well. The drinks were ok but the meals left a lot to be desired. My wife got a simple shrimp salad that was supposed to come on a tostada. When it came out there was no tostada and very little dressing. I had one fish taco and one shrimp taco. The shrimp taco was pretty good but the fish taco, which I believe they said was Cod, smelled fishy and didn't taste right. Service was also lacking. My father in law who's lived in surprise for 21 years suggested this place. We just moved to Peoria and they actually take reservations which hardly any restaurant in this area do! We will frequent any restaurant that takes reservations. We do not want to wait 1+ hours any night for dinner. This place is super cute but if your looking for real Mexican food this is not the place for you. Portion sizes are nice but you pay the penny for it. The food was not bad just not that special my favorite thing we got was the appetizer it's was the short rib flautas they were super crispy and airy and the short rib was moist and we dipped ours in their salsa which was also really good. I got the Chicken Baja Chop salad the seasoning on the chicken was great but the chicken was a little burnt and very dry. My mother got the 3 mix match tacos with a side of cilantro lime rice and beans she hated the rice and said the beans were okay but her favorite taco was the shrimp one. We were peckish for New Mexican food, which is how they advertised themselves, so we gave it a shot. This review won't really be about the food. The food was just okay. Not horrid, but not good either. Though I have to add that I lived in New Mexico for a long time and for a restaurant that says it serves New Mexican food, few New Mexican staples were on the menu. We walked in near noon and despite the place being not anywhere close to full, the second we walked in the waitress angrily yells at us from across the room "I WILL GET TO YOU WHEN I CAN!" We had literally been in the place for 2 seconds and had said not a word. When she took us to our table, she never said hello but gestured us forward then snapped again saying "STOP RIGHT THERE!" while she grabbed menus and utensils. Again, literally the only thing we said to her was that we wanted to sit outside (like several other groups already). We sat. When we ordered our drinks and chips&salsa -- which was NOT complimentary like every other Mexican restaurant I've ever been to -- she again angrily said it would be a bit. We should have left, but we were hungry. She brought the chips&salsa and drinks and then showed another group to a table near ours. We couldn't believe how polite she was to them, considering how rude she'd been to us. DID I MENTION THAT MY MOTHER IS BROWN WITH AN ACCENT AND THE REST OF THE DINERS WERE LILY WHITE??? Regardless, when she walked by again, we asked for a refill on the chips&salsa and again she said we'd have to wait. She brought it out shortly before our order and acted as if she'd done us a favor despite the fact that the non-complimentary chips&salsa were supposed to be bottomless. As an example of how she made us feel, my mother accidentally dropped her napkin onto the ground and I was going to ask our waitress for another. My mother was so scared of her that she said "please don't. She will get mad at us again." So, if you want mediocre Mexican food at a place where you have to pay for your chips&salsa, and horrific service, then Urban Margarita is for you. For us, I don't see why we would ever return. ***PLUS, THE WAITRESS WAS WEARING A MASK THAT WAS NOT REALLY A MASK. As we entered the establishment we were surrounded by 2 parties of 10 on each side of the hostess station, as a party was walking out after service with no mask. There was easily only 2 feet between anything. We then were told we have to have a mask to get service. The lady who may have been the owner was extremely rude, ignoring the common sense and social awareness of the situation. If you're going to be requiring masks...why are ALL OF YOUR TABLES OPEN with no social distancing in place once seated? "Protecting our staff" was a very poor excuse considering how packed the place was, and all patrons were leaving the establishment maskless and ordering without their masks. read more

Update- we have been here at least a dozen times since this post. We come to taco Tuesday as we enjoy one of each of their street tacos. Apps are great to if you can make happy hour before 6pm. Jeffery H was on top our drinks, chips, salsa and anything else we needed. We started with a smaller table for three as we thought it would work and he had no problem with switching us to a bigger table once the third person came. We continue to bring family and friends here. Previous visit. We have been here twice. First time we had a gift card so we could try it out. It was good food and not too busy for a Friday night. Tacos, beans and beer were great. We brought a few friends for taco Tuesday and had more great tacos. 3 tacos to choose from for taco Tuesday and chips and salsa were great with a side of beer. I thought it would be busier for it being taco Tuesday but it wasn't. Hope this place stays around I was just worried that it wasn't heavily trafficked. The service was slow, poor(did not know what wines they offered or pricing, did not offer refills on water or a pitcher unless asked), the food ran out after only 12 people went through the buffet. Those who were vegetarian were looking forward to the stuffed peppers, but they only made enough for 12-- so they ate rice and beans for $45! The salsa was poorly seasoned, the chips were finally refreshed after having empty bowls for 30 minute. A long time when you've been waiting to eat for 75 minutes due to "no food".
