Urban Burger is a great burger joint to try out. I've had mixed experiences here. My first time around, I was underwhelmed. My burger was overcooked and the flavors were a little off. I had a burger craving a couple months later and I completely changed my view of the place. I ordered a burger with hot sauce, blue cheese, onion rings, and celery. It was incredible. The flavors were spot-on and the toppings were heaping. Loved it. The prices are a little high, but not completely unreasonable considering how enormous the burgers are. I might be in the minority here, but the only thing I really do not like at Urban Burger is decor. They are trying to make the inside look like an urban setting, but to me, it just looks messy. Definitely give Urban Burger a shot -- or two, depending on how quickly you can find the burger for you. read more

Quality meat that has been handled correctly needs little seasoning and is the most important component for a burger. A burger should be juicy if the meat is good. I ordered a plain burger with lettuce, tomatoes and a fried egg. I ordered the meat medium. Let's go over pros and cons. Cons: Burger although cooked medium meat was not juicy. Meat was over seasoned for my taste. Ordered the Bella Bella burger through GrubHub for pickup and it was pretty good! I would definitely order it again. I wanted to order fries through the GrubHub app...but I didn't see that option at all! I tried the pretzel and caramel milkshake. I hope Urban Burger will get almond milk one day. My friend had seen this restaurant listed somewhere last month, and after looking at the menu, I've been itching to go ever since. We finally took a drive (approx 25/30 min) this past weekend. I ordered the Why'd the Chick Cross da Road sandwich because 1. I don't eat red meat, and B. uh, two words... "dorito crusted." I asked for the maple glaze on the side. The bread was "grilled cheese style" - between that, and the fried chicken, the sandwich was very greasy. However, I was not delusional in thinking I was ordering a healthy meal, so not a factor in my rating. My only disappointment was the lack of actual dorito flavor - I get that they'd have to combine the chips with breading for it to stick, but the chicken tasted more like a regular cutlet. The combo with the PJ cheese was still good regardless. My fries were crisp and delicious, not sure why ppl have said they were soggy. I dipped a few fries in the glaze instead of putting it on my sandwich - definite hint of maple. I really wanted a milkshake, but decided to order one for dessert, IF I had room - unfortunately, I did not (still sad about this). My friend had a burger and tomato soup - he really enjoyed his entire meal. We were here mid-afternoon on a Sunday - all tables were full, so there was a bit of a wait for our food. Another reason I'm glad I didn't order a milkshake first, I would've been too full to eat. The wait wasn't a factor in my review either - they seemed a bit understaffed (perhaps typical), and I imagine the food was being made to order. I agree that the place was on the pricey side (the soup alone was approx $6) - our meal (1 burger, 1 sandwich, 1 drink, 1 soup, 0 milkshakes), came to around $34. Side note: I'm a big fan of pretzel rolls, so I may have ordered that on my next trip, but I noticed they were crossed out on the menu. And the breakfast items look good, but $$. Ok so here we go: pros are that the food is clearly cooked to order and it comes out hot and fresh (I think... I'll explain why "I think" in the cons). The burger itself was tasty and kind of cooked to order. I ordered medium rare, what I got was more medium, but edible so no complaints. Now for the cons: definitely the wait and the timing of food. We waited about 30 minutes from ordering to getting food and it wasn't super crowded. It's burger... I didn't order a soufflé. Further my burger came out a good ten minutes before my boyfriend's. So because I was raised with some semblance of manners, I didn't start eating until his burger came. That's why I said "I think" the burger was hot and fresh. I mean, it was still warm when I ate it. Next con is the price. For the two of us two burgers and two drinks (a water and a fountain soda) it was $33.00. So all in all was it a decent burger? Sure. We had a perfect pre-movie date night. Destiny made an amazing Oreo Milkshake and our burgers were distinctive and delicious.

The burgers are creative which makes this a fun place to take out of town guests. I usually stick with the beets and goats burger which comes with goat cheese, beets and a yummy ranch dressing. The burger is really good but nearly impossible to eat by hand. You need to be ready with a ton of napkins or just concede to using a fork and knife from the start with almost every burger on the menu. In addition to the degree of difficulty in eating the burgers, the decor is especially bad. I usually wouldn't care about decor in a casual burger place but this is distractingly bad. With a hot pink plastic chandelier and a poster of a milkshake, it's basically a mix of my bedroom from 1999 and a 1950s diner. I don't mind paying extra for toppings, but if your going to start charging extra make sure the topping you are putting on are fresh and not burnt to a crisp. That it's not even edible any more. I've liked Urban Burger the two times we went there. I'm probably always gonna get about the same thing. The plain jane burger with added cheese and avocado, and a side salad instead of fries. The first time, the burger came with almost a whole avocado and it was pretty impressive, the second time with only four slices. Must've been a time of day thing. Either way, the burger was tasty and the extras don't cost too much to add on. I also really liked the salad dressing on the mixed greens. My only problem would be the price of the milkshakes. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Cranford, however the food quality has been slipping recently. My last three visits, one of my favourite sandwiches in the world, the BB mac, was very disappointing. There was lots of mac and cheese but almost no pulled pork (and the pork we had was mainly just fat). We found ourselves wandering around downtown Cranford before a meeting looking for a place to have a late lunch. We stumbled upon Urban Burger. There is no off-street parking, but the meters are plentiful and cheap at 75 cents for 90 minutes. The menu has some interesting combinations, but have no fear - the build your own burger will get you quickly back into your comfort zone. We chose the onion rings as an appetizer and they quickly came out. They looked amazing, but the batter was surprisingly flavorless. The dipping sauce was blue cheese which did not do much to add kick to the ring - a remoulade or spicy sauce might have been a better choice. For my entree I chose a pattys melt, which was a nice choice. The only thing unusual was that the meat was not a patty, but actually loose, although the flavors was good. The service is fast casual style where you order at a register, go sit down and they bring the food to you. Urban Burger is worth a shot if you are in downtown Cranford. read more

Veggie burger fans please take caution: Ordered a veggie patty substitution for the Krabby Patty burger, I was not amused. The beet patty ruined it--it was this thick chunk of funky beets that overpowered the taste. I ended up removing a large portion of the patty and tried my best to eat it as it was $14 something for the burger, fries, and drink. I was looking forward to this place, but I will not order any type of veggie burger from them as I find beets disgusting. If I ever do go back, may get a grilled cheese instead. I just received my Urban Burger order. I ordered through Grub Hub. I thought the prices were high for just burgers but when I got my order, it was so good that I probably would have paid double! The burgers are really big but very good! The cheese fries were great as well! I really wanted to like this place. I saw a bunch of pictures on Instagram & was way too curious. I made my own burger with lettuce, onion, bacon, & blue cheese crumbles with a side of their chipotle sour cream sauce. With truffled mac & cheese & fries. The burger was lacking in flavor, needed some salt & pepper. The bun was good, toasted, & seemed home made. Could be wrong? The only thing is, the burger was just a challenge to eat it because the patty was just falling apart. In some parts of the patty, it was thick, other parts were thin.. Overall, I couldn't eat it because it was just frustrating. The truffled mac & cheese was actually really good. Worth the $8 I spent, compared to the burger. It was consistent, had flavor. The fries were just fries. No salt & pepper on them, nothing special about it. I'd skip out on it. The staff was really friendly & helped me navigate my way through the menu because there was a lot to look at. This was our first trip here. The ambiance is cute and the staff was friendly. As stated in many of the reviews, the serving sizes are large and a good value for the price. The Speedy Gonzales was really good (pulled pork and cole slaw over a beef patty with pepperjack cheese). The burger with Taylor ham & an egg was over loaded with Taylor ham (5 slices! Had to take some off). The plain fries were good. The chocolate shake was thick and yummy. It was the rest of the food that made this a 3 star review. The onion rings were very bland. The tomato soup actually tasted like penne vodka sauce. The chili on the chili cheese fries was okay but not very flavorful. If there was a 3.5, I would give it that because it was just the cooking of the patties that left a bad impression, but thats a key aspect. We asked for medium rare and medium, and they were well done. Other people had the same issue. 3 different burgers (continental, wicked blue, speedy G), all really good, and the fries *sweet potato and regular) were good as well. Surprisingly, the Fried Pickles might have been the best we ever had. We dined in, service was just about sufficient. Just a hands down awesome burger. The onion rings are thick with an heavy batter. Really good. Not sure why they were served with blue cheese, but I tried it. It was weird, but there was plenty of ketchup at the tables. Unfortunately, there were some bad spots. The fries were limp and soggy, even though there were hot out of the frier. Almost like they were undercooked, which is strange because the chicken wings were so overcooked the bones were breaking. The wing sauce wasn't my favorite either, and they only offer 1, so feel free to skip that. Took 40+ minutes to get our food, which came out at different times and the place wasn't even busy. They also ran out of macaroni and cheese for my burger. Staff not very informed either. Two out of our three burgers were very undercooked and all the food was room temperature. My son's chicken fingers and fries was great, but is that what you really want at a burger restaurant?
