He used to pay your bill at the cash register but now you just pay it directly to the server. Parking can be a little difficult, especially on the weekends. Our server was very attentive. Not "one of our burgers." Not "depends what you like." Nope. Immediate confidence. The kind of confidence that makes you trust a stranger with your financial future. So naturally I ordered exactly that. He even doubled down and told me it was the best sandwich he's ever had. Ever. That's a dangerous level of hype to put on a chicken sandwich. At that point I wasn't ordering lunch anymore. I was preparing for a spiritual experience. I got the sweet potato fries on the side and sat there waiting like a kid staring at the oven on Christmas morning. Then the sandwich arrived. And honestly? Visually, this thing deserved its own entrance music. Beautiful sandwich. Crispy golden chicken, stacked perfectly, looked like it had been assembled by a food stylist with relationship issues. I took the first bite and immediately realized what was wrong. Flavor had called in sick. The chicken itself was cooked perfectly. Great crunch. Juicy inside. Beautiful breading. But somehow nobody introduced it to salt, pepper, seasoning, spices, or joy. It tasted like the kitchen spent all their energy making it look incredible and forgot the whole "taste" portion of the assignment. My colleague ordered the exact same thing and had the exact same reaction, which honestly made me feel better because for a second I thought COVID had made a surprise comeback. The sandwich was one shake of Cajun seasoning away from greatness. The sweet potato fries were solid flavor-wise, but a little limp. Not tragic. Just lacking that crispness that makes you keep stealing fries after you're already full. This place feels like a really good concept that just needs somebody in the kitchen to become emotionally invested in seasoning. Three stars feels fair. Nothing was bad. Nothing offended me. It was just aggressively average after being introduced with Super Bowl-level hype. I'd come back, but next time I'm ordering an actual burger at the place called Baja Burger. It comes with house made BBQ, potatoes and broccolini. ($28) Perfect for when you want to go to an upscale meal but still have to make your man happy - this is literally a "meat and potatoes" dish. Located in the large strip mall shopping center in Hoover right off Montgomery Highway, Senlek sits right next to Dale's Southern Grill. There's plenty parking but no outdoor seating. The inside is rather interesting in that it looks like they occupy "half" a space because there's a "row" of tables that start at the front and extend in a line to the back where the restrooms are. The left side of the restaurant consists of their open kitchen and an interior room. My colleague and I were greeted immediately upon entering. There was no Thursday lunch crowd so we had our pick of tables. After we were seated our drink orders were taken. I tried their Thai coffee... potent but delicious! Smooth and nicely chilled Yom Yom Yom Yom. Fellow Yelper Paul C. told me that the owner previously worked at Saigon Noodle House for several years. This was enough of a recommendation for me because Saigon Noodle House is at the top of my short list. Their menu is a simple and just 2 pages. It is enormously helpful because it has a photo of pretty much all their offerings. Our server was also very knowledgeable in explaining the different dishes as well. I had heard so much about the papaya salad that I had to try it. It tasted so good and had a little kick. Yom Yom. Marc tried R2 Khao Moo Sam Chan with the crispy pork belly. I didn't get to try it but Marc didn't leave any left and I liked how they sent out his sticky rice inside a smaller container on his plate. It kept the rice intact and warm. I tried their popular F4 Khao Soi. Their menu describes it as a Northern thai favorite with rich curry broth, egg noodles, tender chicken and crispy noodles on top. I opted for white breast meat, but you can also get chicken legs. My chicken was tender and just melted in my mouth. The curry had a wonderful coconut flavor and had just the right amount of kick. The crispy noodles were just as good as the tender noodles underneath after you push them down and drown them in the curry. I loved everything about this bowl of noodles! Yom Yom Yom Yom. Our server was attentive and kept our water cups topped off. The atmosphere is casual and great for big groups although they may run out of tables if it's a busy busy evening.
