    Matcha and vanilla soft serve
    Anthony A.

Been satisfying my sweet tooth here since the soft opening in May. Been trying out the entire menu and can't find anything that doesn't hit the spot. The menu offers a grand variety of sweet treats to try every time I swing by. The recent additions of dessert items like Yuzu Cheesecake and Pannacota really make me crave coming back. There's always table available for me every time I come. Whether that be a study session or simply a hangout with buddies to rip some Pokemon packs! Place is always clean too! I appreciate the welcoming smiles of the staff and allowing me to sample some of the menu items before buying. Also the music playlist is great! Top recommendations from the menu include: Matcha Yuzu Sparkler Hojicha latte with black sesame cap Banana matcha latte Yuzu pannacota The matcha latte will always be a banger with any cap on top

tried the regular matcha latte and it was sooo sweet :/ matcha also wasn't strong although i feel like the more and more i drank the more matcha flavor i could taste. if you like a sweeet matcha tho, i think this place is for you because my roommate likes her drinks really sweet and she enjoyed it came back a second time to give it another try w less sweet and tried the banana matcha w unsweetened matcha and it just tasted like artificial banana cream with a cup of milk :(

BEST MATCHA IN SD!!! As someone who drinks matcha 3-4 times a week & has tried almost every cafe in OC, trust me when I say that you need to try Urban Matcha! I've heard mixed reviews, but I'm glad that it did NOT disappoint. Our drinks were very matcha forward & the perfect level of sweetness (not super sweet at 100%). The cheese cap matcha with black sesame was a delight. I could taste how strong the matcha base was without mixing. The hot matcha latte was also surprisingly delicious & reminded me of the matcha in Japan. I have to applaud them for the authenticity :-) The only critique I have is that their cup sizes run on the smaller side. Their small is a 12 oz while their medium is a 16 oz. They have easily become one of my new favorite matcha spots in SD!! This ranks in my top 2 alongside Labora ~

Matcha Yuzu Sparkler & Banana Pudding Matcha

My daughter and I came here last Sunday with our little pup (small dogs were allowed as long as they were carried/in a carrier). They were still in their soft opening phase, but based on how efficient they were, I would've never guessed had it not been for the Soft Opening sign in the front. We ordered the Matcha Yuzu Sparkler and Banana Pudding Matcha. Both drinks were very good. The Matcha Yuzu Sparkler was light and refreshing, while the Banana Pudding Matcha was rich and decadent. We received very friendly service and look forward to coming back to try other items on their menu. I have my eyes on the black sesame and matcha soft serve. This is the best combo in my opinion, and I wonder if they will be available in a swirl....I hope so! I hope they will continue to allow small pets because we see this as a new favorite spot for anything matcha!

Convoy has no shortage of matcha spots and Urban Matcha is a great one! What makes it stand out: -They move FAST. Don't ever let a line stop you. They run through so quickly and drinks are out instantly! -They have such fun options. They have a variety of cheese foam flavors and you can opt for soft serve if you prefer that over a latte (or have both in a float!) -They have a spacious interior. While it can fill up, people seem to move out more quickly than some of the other more laptop cafe style spots. The only cons are that the parking in this lot is unbearable on weekends. But if you have some patience, it's worth the visit.

My husband wanted to check out Urban Matcha since it's one of the newer spots in town, and with all the buzz around it, we decided to stop by and see what the hype was about. Since it was our first visit, I told him to surprise me and order whatever caught his eye. We ended up sharing the matcha shaved ice. Maybe shaved ice just isn't my thing? The soft serve mixed in was decent, though it didn't quite stand out compared to some of the other soft serve spots around San Diego. I also found myself wishing there were a more generous amount of toppings, especially the mochi balls and red bean, which would probably add more texture and flavor. That said, the atmosphere was definitely the highlight. The place was packed with energy, and it seemed like a popular spot for people to work, study, or catch up with friends. The space felt quite modern and had that "new neighborhood favorite" vibe. While the shaved ice didn't completely win me over, I haven't tried any of their actual matcha drinks yet, which I assumed is what they're really known for. I'd be open to coming back and giving those a shot.

My cousin and I thought our drinks were just ok. Her matcha was overly sweet surprisingly and she had ask for less sugar. Mine was not too sweet but it just felt like something was lacking Customer service was great though and they had a long line

    - arguably the toughest parking plaza on convoy so we just skip straight to street parking! - it gets busy on the weekends with a bit of a wait - the interior is massive! So many tables and chairs to chat/study/work - matcha is just so pricey these days so it's hard to justify especially with the size and quality - the matcha tea base for the float was too sweet for my liking (I did forget to ask for less sugar) but the black sesame ice cream was yummy! I think I'd get just their soft serves next time - yuzu sparkler was refreshing and such a cool spin on matcha. The pulp adds a nice texture as well!

A Las Vegas-based matcha business has arrived in the Convoy District with the soft opening of Urban Matcha this week. It replaced a short-lived sizzling plate eatery in the Convoy Pointe Plaza Shopping Center that is notorious for difficult parking in the lot. There was a short line when I arrived in the afternoon on the second day of business. It will likely be the end of the month at the earliest before the full grand opening will occur. The inside of the suite was huge for a cafe as Urban Matcha inherited enough seating for a full-size restaurant. Three menu boards were mounted above and behind the service counter. They listed various matcha products either as a beverage or a frozen treat. I didn't notice any matcha baked goods though. Some items were available in other flavors like black sesame, ube, and vanilla. There was a diagram of one of their signature products, the Matcha Parfait. I ordered that along with a Matcha Yuzu Tea which was only available in a large size. The parfait was the most expensive item as it contained matcha soft serve ice cream in a clear plastic cup with agar jelly, cornflakes, adzuki beans, matcha gelato, two mochi balls, and one piece of chestnut. The ice cream had a thicker consistency that didn't allow it to melt quickly which was good. The other ingredients added crunch, chewiness, and texture. As for my drink, the yuzu flavor was much more prominent than the matcha. Had I known this, then I would have picked one of the lattes instead. When I departed, the place was nearly full, and the line stretched along the sidewalk adjacent to the suite. With the current popularity of everything green tea, Urban Matcha should do well at this location.

The Matcha is really really good and I would say the Asian flavors like black sesame, and banana with Matcha adds unique flavor profile. I would say the Star is lost because it is pretty expensive just for a small cup. You probably pay $9 for a 10-12 ounce cup. The ambience is great lots of seating and the service is actually really good. I would just say overall you are paying for your drink that I think should be more like $7.50 than nine dollars.

Tried it & really liked it!! Opted for the strawberry cheese cap matcha latte, and really enjoyed it! My only bummer was that I didn't order it less sweet, so I thought it was just a tiny bit too sweet, but not as much as it could've been or other places would've made it. The actual matcha itself was good quality & excellent flavor. Went shortly after 12, when they opened & wasn't super crowded just yet. The staff was super nice & really kind & the place was clean, open, and good vibes. Will absolutely be back!

Heard this place came from Vegas and me and my partner decided to check it out as we love visiting new drink spots that open up. The space is very large and there's plenty of seating if you or your friends come to visit. I saw a large poster advertising the black sesame hojicha and I was easily convinced to go with that option (specifically black sesame cheese hojicha latte). My partner went with the banana pudding matcha latte. For the banana pudding matcha I'm going to be honest it wasn't my favorite. The banana cream has an artificial banana taste and since my partner didn't adjust the sweetness it overpowered the matcha. My general rule of thumb is if I can't really taste the matcha despite other flavorings then what was the purpose of me spending so much money on the drink (close to 9 bucks for the matcha, and yes I know matcha is expensive but still). As for the hojicha, I had the complete opposite experience. The combination of black sesame cheese and hojicha results in a prominent roasted flavor that I really enjoyed and I could taste both ingredients separately. I would probably return here just for this drink alone. Also one last note; the drinks came out within minutes of us ordering it which I was very surprised by. Overall, I'm unsure if I would get the matcha again (or perhaps I'd try a different matcha drink) but the black sesame hojicha latte I would easily recommend if you're into nuttier flavors.

Matcha and vanilla swirl soft serve ($7.50): I highly recommend this!

Urban Matcha had day 2 of their soft opening today! It's located in the same plaza as MYM Tea and Spicy City, where Sizzling House and Noodle used to be. The line started off around the corner at around 2 PM, and the cafe got progressively more crowded throughout the day. The ambiance is lively, and the workers were very efficient. My order was ready within 10 minutes. The standout for me was the matcha and vanilla swirl in a cone ($7.50)! You can choose to get it in a cup. The soft serve flavors were perfectly balanced, and I really enjoyed it. I wanted to also buy the ube and black sesame swirl, but since it's the soft opening, they didn't have either of these two flavors yet. I'll try it next time. I also got the iced matcha latte with original cheese cap ($8.45). It was creamy and smooth. The price was on the higher end, but still worth it. I'm glad that Urban Matcha is now open in SD, and I'm looking forward to my next visit!

When my kids started looking at ice cream flavors, the man asked me if I could pay for a cookie and some ice cream for him. When I turned him down, he then asked me if I could buy him some milk and a cookie. After I turned him down for a second time, he then asked my wife. Finally, he asked my son. At this point, a second person behind the counter asked the man to leave. I'm ok with people asking for a handout, but it is totally not cool to repeatedly ask inside an ice cream shop and asking a minor after his parents already said no. That interaction really put a damper on things, but we eventually ordered a few scoops and a few cookies. Thought the cookies were spot on again (warm from the oven). The ice cream temperature wasn't quite right - a bit on the melted/soft side. Not quite what we were hoping for this time around.

I've worked in Little Italy in the past but have never tried Caffe Italia. I got their Italian sandwich, with the default bread being focaccia. Inside there were prosciutto, salami, ham, provolone, tomato, and house made balsamic vinaigrette. It had a good balance of deli meats, and the focaccia bread was thick to hold it all together. I thought it was tasty as well as their coffee, however my coffee wasn't filled up all the way. It is strong and their roast is bold! I liked it a lot, although a lunch meal can get costly so it would just be from time to time if I were to revisit. Not only that, but they also have a small selection of gelatos which look pretty authentic like Spumoni! Other desserts I saw were mousse, tiramisu, cannoli, cheesecake, carrot cake, and rugelach. The cafe is small and the service may take a bit if you are waiting for the food, but overall, I enjoyed my coffee and sandwich.
