Our initial consultation was with Jeff - who's a wealth of knowledge and took the time to walk around our property and educate us about all the types of trees we have. I appreciate that he advised us on what needed immediate attention, what could wait, and what to keep an eye on. Urban Forest Pro came out last week to work on the three big trees on my property (two walnuts and one apple). These trees are lovely but not without their issues - ie, leaves and apples fall everywhere. Everyone at Urban Forest Pro was professional and helpful throughout. The consult happened in early January and the trim in early May, so they do get booked up. Book early! Scheduling staff was responsive. The crew that actually did the work listened to my requests and made quick work of it. They provided some recommendations for maintenance as well. Pricing was right in line with other quotes I got. I bought a house in Portland that game with two healthy western red cedars and a willow that was dying. After getting multiple estimates, I went with Urban Forest Pro. They helped us clean up storm damage where some branches came down on our house. We had them give us an estimate to remove the 2 street trees in front of our home, we accepted their proposal and the work was scheduled a few weeks out. Everything on the front end went well. Permits, city inspection and parking closures were arranged in advance, the crew showed up and took down the trees in a professional manor. They cleaned up adequately and left the 2 tree trunks down on the ground because they were too large to grind up. Pick up up the large pieces and the stump grinding would happen on Wednesday, 2 days later. The crane truck removed the remaining tree pieces late Wednesday afternoon and now, almost a week later we're still waiting to get a date when the stump grinder can fit us in their apparently very busy schedule. In summary: great start, nice work for reasonable cost, lousy finish. Update: he came by today and did the stump grinding, job complete. We had a tree fall on our house two days after Christmas. What a nightmare. Fortunately no one was injured, but the removal would be complicated because the tree was leaning across our power line. We had several large trees in the back and front yard that needed to be pruned/cleaned up, including two 70' (or maybe bigger?) walnut trees that were waaay beyond our abilities. The Urban Forest Pro crew was amazing. Sensitive to our concerns, and very skilled and professional. And had the agility of monkeys -- even with their saws and equipment -- as they scaled our enormous trees, ran ropes, and cleaned away the dead wood, etc. Crew leader Cole was an ace -- great communication start to finish. Along with keeping me updated on progress and plans, and making sure all the trees were just as I'd liked, he also managed to mediate with and allay the concerns of our behind-the-fence neighbor (who was the reason we were trimming back one of the biggest walnut trees -- it had grown to be hanging way over into his yard, and was looming over his shed). Our poor beloved paper birch tree died and became a bit of an eyesore. So, we were in desperate need of an arborist to remove it. We contacted Urban Forest and they sent out Jesse, an ISA certified Arborist to help us get an estimate and draw up the permits for the city. Jesse was helpful in explaining the whole process of removing the tree from drawing up the estimate, filling out the permit all the way to tree removal and stump grinding. He was also extremely knowledgeable about what and when to plant a tree in the future (we want one in the same spot). The next communication I had was with CD. She was the friendliest telephone assistant I've ever talked to! She also doubles as an arborist, so she was able to make more suggestions about future trees to plant and how to gain more space back in my yard. I talked to a few other people along the way, they were always friendly, helpful, and above all knowledgeable! All in all, start to finish, from estimate to stump grinding and tree trunk pickup, my project took only one month and most of that was waiting on my permits from the city. They were very responsive and had an arborist come out within a few days of our request to assess our tree and provide a quote [note: we did have an arborist out three years back who gave the same exact assessment of 'probably 10 years left']. We needed help with our big street trees in the curb strip - up in the wires and cable, phone and city just point fingers to each other and back to us so even though they are in the public right of way, we are re$ponsible for upkeep. We also had pruning on side and in back on various sizes smaller trees. Mind you, we live on a 5k sq ft city lot so there is not a whole lot of room for big trees but we love the shade, habitat and help for groundwater so we want to be good stewards. These guys came in at lowest bid, highest ratings and had three guys working their butts off all afternoon in 90 degree heat. They cleaned up and minded my garden and I'm just amazed with how much they chipped and hauled away. Would use again and recommend to friends, family and neighbors. read more

Great experience with Urban Forest Pro - their business model is great from the estimating process all the way through the actual job and follow-up post-work to ensure you are happy. They definitely have a priority in place to make sure you are completely satisfied with all work. We had them out to lift / prune a couple large cedars, trim maple in our atrium, remove an old cherry tree, and tip back a few trees hanging over our fence. On September 7, 2020 a wind storm caused a maple tree to crash into our house in NW Portland. We called Urban Forest Pro, a Northwest Portland company to obtain an estimate on getting the tree removed from the house. The company owner, Jeffrey D. Moore, came to our house on the morning of September 9 and told us he could have a crew do the work that day or the following day. Moore told us he was charging a premium price. in excess of $500 an hour. He told us he would bill our insurance company directly. He said Urban Forest Pro was on our insurer's preferred provider list and that UFP would take care of everything. We told Moore we did not want his company to remove any debris. He agreed. Moore did not say anything about charging us for the crew's travel time or charging us for an estimate. The company's website and outgoing message state that estimates are free. On September 10 a three-man crew from Urban Forest Pro arrived at our house at approximately 2:00 pm. and began work. They topped the part of the tree hanging over our house then lowered the rest of the tree to the ground. We told the crew we did not want them to remove any debris. The crew left at approximately 4:00 p.m. They were at our house almost exactly two hours. The crew was professional and did what we requested. The rest of the experience was horrible. Our homeowner's insurance company sent us two checks and we weren't sure what they were for. We called the insurance company and learned that one of the checks, for $2,449.40, was for the tree removal. We asked our insurance company for a copy of the invoice and we were shocked that the company charged for 3.61 hours at $540 per hour ($1,949.40) and $500 for debris removal. We called Urban Forest Pro several times and tried to explain that the invoice was in error. We spoke to a woman named Cassie who adamantly told us we had to pay the full amount of the invoice. She told us we were also being charged for travel time. We explained that Jeff never told us we would be billed for travel time. We told her we were charged for work that wasn't done (or even requested), i.e. $500 for tree removal. Cassie said that it was on the invoice and we had to pay it. She repeatedly told us the crew's truck had GPS so the company knew how far it had traveled. Eventually she told us the crew had come from Northeast Sumner Street in Portland. It's 13 miles from our house to the most distant point on Sumner Street, as if that matters. Cassie refused to discuss the flawed invoice and kept asking us how much we'd be willing to pay to settle the matter. We told her we'd pay $1,080 for two hours at $540 per hour. At no point during any of our calls with Cassie did she express any interest in correcting the invoice or explaining to us why we were being charged $500 for debris removal when clearly no debris removal was done or requested. On Thursday, October 8, Cassie agreed that the company would settle with us for $1,260. We asked for a revised invoice prior to making the payment. Cassie said she couldn't provide one and had no reasonable explanation for why it couldn't be done. Then we asked for an email stating the terms we had agreed to. Cassie said she'd see if that was possible and get back to us. She never did. Cassie called us on Tuesday, October 13, and said she was trying to contact our claims adjuster to get more information. This led to a circular conversation with us explaining that we are responsible for paying the invoice and that the insurance company would reimburse us. Cassie kept insisting that we were wrong and that Cassie needed to speak with our insurance adjuster. We again told Cassie that we would settle for $1,260 and we would pay today if we got something in writing that it was the total amount owing. Cassie said she "couldn't make that offer anymore." She said,"it's not part of our process to send anything in advance." We called the company owner, Jeff Moore later on October 13 and explained that we had been billed for work that wasn't done. Moore agreed that his workers were at our house for two hours. He would not discuss the fact we were billed for work that was not performed and told us were were in breach of contract. Ultimately, we all got fleeced on this one. Our insurance company rolled over and paid the full amount. Now we all can enjoy higher premiums as a result. read more

This is the best tree removal service I've used in Portland. I have several trees on my property, a few of which I have had to remove over the years. This task became a challenge when I went to remove the Oak that was over my house. Urban Forest Pro was one of the only arborists willing to take it on. The team is by far the most experienced and skilled I've hired; from start to finish they have excellent communication, prompt service, easy contracting, and some of the best prices in town. They are the only tree removers that have taken the time to protect my other landscaping; They laid down plywood to protect my landscaping, and always clean up impeccably (they were out leaf blowing to make sure the site was clean where they had been chipping), and they even saved my 40 year old rhododendron and patio that was in the path (although it was guaranteed). Seemed like a great company. Emailed them indicating I wanted help planting an existing tree we already have (a live christmas tree), and sourcing and planting two more trees. No one emailed back. Called a week later, and was told that it was a minimum of $350 to plant a tree. They explained that it was at least $85 per person per hour (although I have no idea how that would then compute to a $350 minimum). The website pretty clearly states $80 to plant a tree (was advised that was out of date). Thats quite the inflation rate. They said it was $360 to source a tree from them and plant. I get that they want you to buy their trees and not your own, but this is insane. Sadly, was looking to use them long term and source lots of additional trees. But I need someone who can at a minimum plant what I already have! So frustrating. read more

From the office staff that originally booked me to my own personal project manager, that was there with fast responses to any question I had. The biggest shout out has to go to the the actual arborists who came out and took care of our trees. We had a pair of 50 foot plus maples that were stretching across our property line over our neighbor's roof.
