I used J&F several times and was very pleased with the work on our trees. However, during their second job, their equipment damaged our driveway. They left before we noticed the damage. I have tried to call them and written to them several times about the damage. I don't think we can repair the drive but I want to ensure that they take steps to protect future clients. I went to their "office" in Beaverton to talk with them, but that is not a staffed office. After spending $11,000 with them, I felt it was reasonable to expect some reply to my concern or possibly some price reduction. I definitely expected (and feel any customer should get) SOME reply to my courteous effort to discuss the matter. After a month and multiple efforts, I have heard nothing from J&F. The inability to communicate with them is a problem for me and any new customer. It's too bad...I really appreciated the team and their work, but can't justify working with them again. read more

My neighbor hired J&F to cut down a tree. Nothing warms a neighbor's heart like being woken up to a chainsaw AND woodc-hipper before 7:30AM on a Monday morning. It's not like we were trying to sleep-in. Aside from the noise, I can confirm they removed a tree. They also left wood chip debris across two yards in either direction. Guess you cannot be loud AND clean. I've hired tree removal in the past, and they did the work to check for underground utilities. J&F isn't bothered by such process, as they didn't bother to check. We got our tree removed but lots of roots were left behind, making the area of the small tree around it almost impossible to work with without breaking out a buzzsaw. The sprinkler line was also shattered from the stump grinder and we weren't informed of this till our street flooded. Ever since repairing the line, one of the sprinklers still doesn't work right perhaps because something is stuck now. Response to owner: that is simply not true you did not say that you could come out the next day it would've been one week. I understand that you can't always see the sprinklers but it would've been nice being known you guys broken it so it wouldn't flood the street and clog the sprinklers. read more

We had them out yesterday to trim a tree that was growing across the fence from a neighbor's yard that was interfering with our Directv dish and causing moss to grow on the roof. We called a few days ago and thought they'd come out for the job at that scheduled time. Over the course of two more days we were given windows where they MIGHT show up. They didn't twice during these windows without any communication. We finally got a garbled message that they might be in the area again and they showed up shortly after that. We were repeatedly told that they'd get to us when they were in the area for other larger jobs. They made it clear that a "small" trimming job was not a high priority for them. Our "small" job was still a bit over $400 dollars. With one exception, their guys were quick and professional after they showed up. The tree was trimmed to our fence line and didn't look all that bad afterwards from the neighbor's and our perspectives. This one exception was that they moved an obstacle on our side yard and crushed a blueberry bush. It would have been nice for these guys to have been a bit more cognizant of existing plantings. The job was done and done well, even if the logistics before hand were a hassle. read more

We had an annoying 40ft+ pine tree in our front yard that we always disliked, but when we got from a vacation and saw hundreds of pine needles all over our lawn, roof, and gutters (must have been really windy while we were gone), we wanted that tree GONE. The day after I got back from being out of town, I called J&F Tree Service Inc. A friendly gal answered the phone and told me someone would be out in a day or two to come look at the tree. To my pleasant surprise, one of their arborist, Nate, came out within a couple hours after the phone call and took a look at the tree. He was very professional, courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable. He gave me a very fair quote and told me he should be able to fit me in sometime the following week. To my pleasant surprise, AGAIN, I came home from work the following day after meeting Nate, and the tree was gone! I called him, and he informed me that they were doing another job near my house and was able to fit me in sooner than expected, AND they cleaned up all the pine needles from my lawn and roof! We had a large pine tree die in our back yard. I brought multiple companies out to look at it. I also had them look at a large oak in the front yard. The branches extend over our roof and they concerned me a bit. Some of the companies who came out gave us quotes on the pine tree and the oak tree trimming as well. J & F and one other company said the oak tree looked great and there was absolutely no reason to do any work on it. He took time to explain why the tree looked good and why the branches over the house were OK. He basically declined to do the work because it wasn't needed. He and the other honest company gave quotes for the pine tree. J & F was the cheapest so we hired them. The crew was out in less than a week. The weekend after we scheduled the appointment there was a huge wind storm - trees down all over the county - including our neighbor's. I thought for sure they were going to have to reschedule. They showed up right on time. It took about 3 hours to cut the tree down and clean it up. They were phenomenal. They brought two large trucks, about 6 people and and were quick and professional. At the end, the foreman was blowing the saw dust off our property, came up and asked which cars were ours and blew the dust off them (I don't think we even had any saw dust on them...) How I came to use J and F is quite funny actually. I own a local moving company that is also featured here on Yelp and Kristi of J and F called us to use our services. During our conversation I discovered that her and her husband own a local family business as well. I asked what they do and she said tree service and removal. How perfect because I had a tree that I was concerned was dying in our front yard. So I went from being the service provider to the customer in the same conversation. Kristi set up an estimate to diagnose the tree and assess the situation. It was found that our tree was dying and would need removal. They quote was beyond reasonable and I agreed immediately to have them do the work. The appointment was scheduled in the morning at 9am. They showed up with some very impressive and newer equipment and I was immediately very confident in what was about to transpire. I was greeted by Pete who was the crew leader. He explained to me what they would do and we had a small conversation while the others two workers set up. It was fun to watch them climb, limb, and fall the tree. They did this in well under an hour. They knew that I wanted to keep my wood for burning as a courtesy Pete cut up the tree into wood stove size rounds for me to split. That saved me a bunch of work. Also, I should mention that the tree being removed was only about 6 feet from the road on a busy street so it could have been hairy. Those guys made it look easy and there was not a second that I thought they were not in total control of the situation. They had that tree limbed, felled, and cut so fast I was amazed. Next they ground the stump and that was the coolest thing to watch. That gnarly blade just melted through the stump like a hot knife through butter. Actually it reminded me more of the eraser feature in Paint Brush or Adobe Photoshop. The stump grinder swept side to side and the stump disappeared with each sweep. I would say that they ground the whole stump out in less than 5 minutes. They dug it out 18 inches beneath the surface. Very impressive. This was all around a great experience from first contact to the end of the job. I will be eager to refer J and F Tree Service to anyone needing tree service or consultation. I tell you, when you find a provider that is so straight forward and does such a flawless job it really makes and impression on you. I know this is a glowing review but they earned every bit of it. We had 3 large trees removed out of our backyard (2 deciduous, 1 pine), all of which were 60+ feet tall and made it impossible to plant and grow a lawn. The J&F crew that came out did a phenomenal job - we could not be happier with the way the project turned out. The trees are gone, the stumps were properly ground, they cleaned up beautifully, and they even put the section of my fence back up that I had taken down to allow them access to the backyard. When the project took 1.5 days instead of the 1 day that was quoted, they made it clear upfront that their quoted rate was still all that we would be charged. Great experience with these guys! After 9 bids for a trio of evergreens that needed to be removed, we decided on these guys. Very easy to work with; they showed up early, brought two chippers, and a crew of four men that worked nonstop the entire 2 .5 hours that they were here. The job was done efficiently and they cleaned up completely. The bonus for us was that they put ALL of the wood in the chipper and we didn't have to worry about posting on Craigslist. The cost was beyond fair- we worked with Dan who was great and easy to negotiate with. It's important to note that the bottom line cost included taking the wood. Excellent service! I just had a tree removed from the side of my house today. Bob, a certified arborist, was my contact and couldn't have been nicer. He gave me my estimate about a month ago and when I called this week, the team came out the next day to cut and grind my tree. Bob also had a pine next to my house trimmed for no charge. Each time I've had Bob come out and do the work with his team and they have done an excellent job both times!!! I'm not happy with their work. I told them to trim trees by the fence so branches wouldn't go over to the neighbor side. They did it OPPOSITE! They trimmed OUR side of the branches and way too much! They are so UGLY!!! They cut off good branches but left dead branches. I don't understand! I asked them to trim them to look nice because we were getting ready to sell the house. But now those trees look uglier than before :( I also had them to remove two trees including the stump. They didn't clean up after so they look messy. I'd have to clean that up and I'd have to hire another tree service to somehow make those ugly trees look a little more decent. But you know, you can cut more but you cannot gain branches back :( ****** UPDATE BELOW ****** Unbelievable how the story changed in the comment from them! I had 3 cypress and I asked them to remove one of them because it was leaning (which they did and shown in the pic) BUT to keep the rest and just trimmed. The problem was on those two trees. They trimmed them ONLY one side!! How can you explain this? Branches were CHOPPED OFF from the stem on one side facing the yard. No trimming was done on the other side facing away. Later, I got another arborist to take a look at their work and he was amazed, said no matter who sees this work, it is clear this was not trimmed right. He even told me to file a claim to CCB as the damage they made was large. Those trees were NOT damaged. They were healthy and BEAUTIFUL before. I have plenty pictures to prove this. All I wanted was to trim. When the work was done, I was not happy (who would???) but Bob told me those would grow back so give some time. Those will NOT grow back as they were cut from the stem! But I listened to him and waited for a few months. After few months, I called them up and Bob came over. He blamed me for not telling him right away. WELL, I DID!!! He told me to wait, so I did! I asked him to correct this but unfortunately branches were cut too much already that cannot trim anymore so the only thing we could do is to remove the trees. That's when he gave me a quote for removing two trees in full price and insisted me to pay!! WHY would I have to pay for this?? I'm the victim I hired and paid them to trim the trees which turned out half side of branches CHOPPED OFF and no way to recover!! They needed to replace those badly trimmed trees with new ones! This was the advice from the arborist I had come over to evaluate THEIR WORK. I also have the paperwork from them. Aside from the bad job they did, there's more. Bob raised his voice and started yelling at me for leaving bad review. He was loud enough my neighbors could hear. He was trying to intimidate me. I added my honest opinions and only the facts. His intimidation won't change my opinion. He thinks he could get away because I was a woman and no one was around? I didn't want to deal with him (I was scared to be alone with him in the backyard), so I told him to get out of my house. That was it. If I could revise this review, I would take away all the stars. A neighbor's tree fell onto our fence and slightly on the shed. The neighbor called J&F so they kind of went around to the affected homes and solicited their services to all of us. Turns out they are unbelievably pushy. They make things sound far, far more urgent than they really are. The tree only hit a fence for us, yet they claimed insurance companies would mandate that "get it off the structure as soon as possible". They charged us an "emergency price" even though they didn't even get to the job for 3 days because some other customer's emergency was higher priority. They also never mentioned that this was the pricing versus standard, timeline of hat defines "emergency", etc. How, then, do we get charged emergency pricing of $800 an hour if we're downgraded? Nate also charged us 2 hours "minimum" work, and that minimum was never stated, so their 40 minutes of work magically became $1600. Overall, don't use them for anything urgent. You will pay dearly. read more

My neighbor came to knock on our door at 7am on a Thursday morning, right before I headed out to work, to tell me that three huge branches from our sweetgum had landed on their garage roof and car. J&F were the only tree company that called me back immediately and sent someone in less than ten minutes. John, the owner, examined the sweet gum and declared it a hazard, and recommended that we remove the entire tree to avoid more falling branches in the future. John and his crew were extremely careful and efficient, bringing in a crane to remove the fallen limbs from my neighbor's house and car, and cleared everything afterwards. Both the fallen branches and the entire tree were gone by 3 o'clock that afternoon. I had 6 alder trees removed last week from J & F. They quoted me a fair price and I had them cut down the trees the next morning. Very professional company and they seem to know their job very well. They could have put an X on the ground and hit it with every tree if they wanted to, no collateral damage was done to the surroundings. It's a hard job moving all the branches and tree trunks around but these guys made it look easy. I asked to have the left over wood so I can cut it up for firewood and they also gave me the chips from the truck when they were done. A landscaper saw a Ponderosa Pine in our backyard that was split into a Y shape -- about 9 feet up the trunk, the tree split in two and those had grown another 15 feet. The landscaper said we should get one of the sides of the Y cut down right away, so naturally, we were freaked out. We called J&F Tree Service, and Bob was super nice and said he'd come right out and take a look at it. If Bob had confirmed what the landscaper said and told me he could do the job, $1,500 or $2,000 or whatever it would cost, I would have done it. But he said actually there was nothing wrong with the tree, that it really wasn't anything to be worried about. I can't tell you how much I appreciated Bob's honesty and time -- he made a special trip to our house and didn't even get a job out of it. I live in a ranch style house with numerous trees on the property. It feels like it's twilight even in the middle of the day. I knew that I'd have to have the trees dealt with eventually, but hadn't looked into it. I woke up one more to find the maple in my front yard had cracked in half and was across my neighbor's. My neighbor got quotes and had it removed. The tree company they used informed me that the tree would need to be dealt with beyond the cleanup of that section. This company is the best! I have 5 of the biggest Oak trees in Aloha that needed to be trimmed very badly. They quoted a fair price and came out a few days later.
