NYC claims to have the best pizza in the world; not true-in the quiet, New Jersey town of Edgewater (which hugs the Hudson River) sits a family owned pizzeria and coffee house named Urban Tomato. I honestly must say that Urban Tomato has the best pizza ever! If you want to eat healthily, it serves up a crisp cauliflower gluten free pizza, or if you are a glutton for the standard pie dough - you can have that too. No matter which you choose , you will be greatly satisfied. The in store service is terrfic, the staff (usually the owner) talks to you and he often makes your pizza too. Delivery service is terrific and quick and your order arrives hot. Most importantly Urban Tomato uses top quality and uber fresh ingredients. I had the Special Pizza of the day and my son had the Barbecue Chicken and Chicken Parmesan. All were delicious with a crispy crust. Ordered the Brussel Sprouts to go with but they were out, so got the Broccolini instead. Nice garlic and olive oil flavor. Very kind people who serve fantastic pizza in a clean and spacious pizza parlor--I get CT pizza vibes and everyone knows CT pizza is the best ;) Last visit I tried the vodka chicken parm, WOW. Best sandwich I've had and I've been to sandwichitos down the street many many MANY times. It was beautifully presented too and enough to split with someone. I also loved their Brooklyn Best canned iced tea made with black tea and cane sugar, not too sweet...perfect!! I immediately noticed the bread tasted like pizza dough, so pillowy and soft. I think that elevates the already great sandwich topped with burrata and grated chz. On my way out I asked and they confirmed it is, isn't that cool? They were so happy to hear I enjoyed my meal. Tucked away in a quirky shopping area, you'll find great pizza that I always seem to forget about. One thing to remember is their Vodka Chicken Parm Sandwich. This new menu item is spreading like wildfire on numerous social platforms. So much so, that we went out on a Saturday afternoon to avoid FOMO. I gotta say this unique and imaginative take on an old stand-by, makes it one of the best Chicken Parms we've ever had. The homemade bread, stracciatella cheese and vodka sauce really puts it over the top. The fact that they slice the chicken cutlet up, rather than placing the whole breast on the sandwich is a game changer. We'll be back. I really enjoyed the personal pizzas at Urban Tomato. They came out hot and fresh, with a nice crust. I had the margarita pizza with pepperoni. The pizza tasted great with the fresh basil. The gluten-free buffalo chicken pizza was also good. I thought the cauliflower crust tasted nice and had a good texture. Our server was very nice and helpful. So my partner goes here almost every day and loves his garlic and onion cheese pizza. First, I need to go back to try their sandwiches because when I saw it brought out to another table, they looked phenomenal and the smell was a tease. My favorite dish so far has been when we ordered to half chicken parm pizza and half veggie. The flavors were on point, crisp was delightful and always a bonus to restaurants that use freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Fresh ingredients matter and it seems like they use them in all their dishes. First for The Good: All their food I've had is great Staff & Management are friendly and very customer focused For me, they have the best cheese slice anywhere around and definitely anywhere nearby River Rd Their specialty slices are all nice well-executed changes of pace. I would point to the artichoke slice and to the mushroom truffle slice as two of my favorites The place is always clean as a whistle High quality napkins!...the mark of a class operation Clearly the owner takes pride in the place And now for The Bad. Full disclosure...I've really had to dig for these. However, we should always aim for balance in reviews, and so: 1. The container for the red pepper flakes is just small enough to where the flakes must be dispensed from the "open" side of the shaker top, potentially (often) leading to an inordinate amount being delivered to the target pizza slice. A careful, steady hand is required 2. The sausage they use for the pizza is the crumbled type. While I like (prefer) this form of sausage, it is pilled up a bit (thank you) allowing for the real possibility (often occurrence) that the crumbles (noticeably round in shape) simply roll off the slice. There is unfortunately (thankfully) nothing gluing them down. This could (does) call for a multi-step process in which a conscious effort is made to aim the falling pieces onto the paper plate with the plate subsequently being emptied back onto the remainder of the slice...a step that may need repeating Please note that all nearby parking is paid, so you'll need to feed the meter, albeit a modest 25 cents/half hour So go! Enjoy the pizza, pasta, sandwiches and salads! ...but beware the red pepper shaker and the sausage crumbles (if applicable) read more

I'm so happy that Urban Tomato opened another shop in Edgewater. I have gone to the Palisade Park location and loved their pizza. I got the fungi / truffle slice, as well as a Margarita slice with pepperoni. The crust is perfectly charred and the dough light. My favorite is the fungi / truffle, which is saying a lot bc I am a pepperoni fan. The proprietor and staff were very nice. Parking can be a little challenging on this small road but I see people double parked for curbside pick up, which is pretty convenient. read more

What better way to start binging on Chef's Table: PIZZA than by eating pizza while watching pizza.!?.!? We decided to order from urban tomato, for the second time, this being the second chance. We ordered a 1/2 pepperoni 1/2 cheese pizza as well as their vegetarian pizza without cheese. Additionally, we ordered the truffle fries, also with no cheese, and the spicy honey chicken. My primary complaint is that both times the food arrived at room temperature. That could've been a delivery service issue and not the pizzeria's fault but unfortunately, cold fries are never good. Sadly, neither is whatever product they use for their truffle flavoring. It is a product that has a harsh chemical flavor. The cheese pizza was perfect, but the pepperoni is a very oily and oversalted pepperoni that covers the whole area. As for the vegetarian pizza, I enjoyed it but wish they would be a little more generous with the vegetables (see photo), considering it is a $24 pizza with no protein on it. I posted the other day that Rasco's is by far unequivocally, the best stand alone pizza place in Edgewater, and after ordering and just eating the chicken Parm hero at urban tomato, I can unequivocally say that there is no competition It's Super Bowl Sunday in Rasco's is closed. They are never open on Sundays so I went to urban tomato and ordered the chicken farm and brought it back to my apartment. It certainly is massive. I only ate one half but the bread was soggy. The chicken Parm and the sauce had absolutely no taste.
