Have gone to MV locations for years and food is always fresh and correct. At El Cajon location they ignored special directions (requested no spicy sauce on a meal for a child), sent unfresh food (rotten lettuce in salads), and despite throwing half of the entire order away...gave me food poisoning!! I have been impatiently waiting for the urbane in east county to open for a while now and I am happy to report this is doing the other locations great justice. I actually just sat down to your sandwich to critique its authenticity and ya know what? I can tell your managers and owners did as well. I am so cal addict in every sense of the word and their so cal chicken sandwich is the leader of my pack. That sandwich is effing perfect. This locations version was damn near as well. The only criticism I'll give is this- The bread is slightly too thick which doesn't let it get crispy enough in the oven. The spongy texture is albeit better than most sandwich places out there but this is urbane; the leader of fresh baked bread sandwich places. Ok, I might be the only person in the world with that opinion but since I do, you should definitely note my feedback. The chicken is a little bit....suspect. Ok so I am insanely picky about my sandwich chicken but also you should be too. Because your other locations are. Well the other one I've been to a trillion times; Linda Vista, that is. What else... OH service! KILLER. The reality is, I don't even really write positive yelp reviews anymore. I mean, does anyone? I give this place two stars because I came in for something with Salmon. The man working the counter was helpful in helping me pick something however, what I purchased came out extremely gross. My Salmon didn't have any flavor and was a bit dry. It came with a side salad (which I didn't know) the side salad had a weird taste of bitterness. I went back in to ask if there was any other options I could try but they said it would have to be purchased again although I didn't actually eat anything on my plate. At this point I'm sitting on their patio still hungry without wi-fi. Safe to say I tried it but this place wasn't for me. read more

First time trying this place and it didn't disappoint. If you are picking up an order I recommend calling it in. It only took 15 minutes and when I tried to do it online it said 45 minutes. The woman on the phone was very friendly. Order was ready in the time they said even though it was the rush hour for lunch. The food was really good. All quality, fresh ingredients. The food was excellent I had the California but the best part of my experience was the cashier Julia at the ElCajon site. I wish all retail and service companies had an staff member like her . She was so pleasant and knowledgeable. You definitely need to pay her whatever she wants because she was that good. This place was such a sweet find in EC!!!! Especially with them being new. Sometimes it takes time for the staff to get in their groove. We had sandwiches which came with a salad and we also got the enchilada soup. Let me just say I'm not much of a soup person but...OMG it was all so delicious. During the current crisis they do not accept cash payments. Don't let this deter you from enjoying their amazing food. Just be prepared when you go to pay to bring in debit or credit card. It is their way of protecting us and their way of us protecting them during the pandemic. They gave me a free cookie just for the inconvenience which was by no means any inconvenience. I like it here. Everything is fresh and the bread is quite good. I have been a few times and so far my favorite sandwich is the Chicken Banh Mi. It has good flavor with a little bit of spice. I did try the Morrocan sandwich once and it was kind of bland compared to the banh mi. I also like how they also add a small salad with the sandwiches and it is better quality than most side salads at other establishments. One other nice thing about the bread they use is that it doesn't get soggy! I ate half and didn't eat the other half until the next day and the bread held up quite well. read more

All employees are wearing latex gloves. Good to minimize food contamination (if used and changed properly) but BAD for the customers allergic or sensitive to latex like me. I don't think they're breaking any laws in California, but most food establishments in my experience use nitrile or vinyl gloves now. There are several states that do ban latex gloves in food service. So Urbane Cafe: Get caught up!! I was really disappointed when I came to pick up my in-app order, and the 2 salads I had ordered to split with my daughter were prepared with latex. I'll have to resume asking establishments if they use latex. It won't kill me to eat (like it could for other individuals), but a hands-on food like salad would be enough exposure to keep me bent over in pain in the restroom for a few hours, plus a migraine. 3 stars because the guy behind the counter did not hesitate to make me a replacement salad when I asked him, with clean un-gloved hands, and extra credit because no attitude!! Though it would have been nice if he offered to do so first, or offered a refund, and even better if he could have replaced both salads, since my plan had been to sample both. Food is absolutely delish so worth the money I highly recommend service was outstanding they are newly opened so be patient while they work out the kinks but when we there the other there was none the staff knows the food well and can guide you to something great they have craft sodas which is cool because most places have the typical soda companies this has some craft ones and they were yum cookies were fresh baked and warm my fave chocolate chip, salad:bbq chicken I would add some onions to it will do next time and the bread is so soft and fluffy my husband enjoyed it read more
