Spent the weekend at a WWP women's retreat at the beautiful Talon Ranch, and lunch was catered by Deli Belly. Gotta say it hit the spot! Everything was super fresh and light, which was exactly what we needed after a morning of outdoor activities. The roast beef was cooked just right tender, flavorful, and not overly salty. The chipotle chicken was definitely the standout great flavor, a little kick, and I liked that it was chopped up for easy serving. Perfect for a group meal. No soggy wraps or mystery meats just solid, tasty deli fare. I'll definitely stop by again when I'm back in the area. Four stars because I haven't dined in yet, but based on the catering alone, it's a win. read more

Delicious deli in East County. First, very reasonably priced: I didn't look at my receipt because honestly, with a final tab of $17 and change how could I argue? I do know the sandwich with one side and my choice of "Dirty Brand" potato chips was a meal special. Lol look at the photo-1/2 sandwich on an onion roll stuffed with very thinly sliced turkey (Boars Head)and veggies of your choosing. Deli Belly offers many bread choices including this huge onion roll, sourdough, white, wheat and squaw. The bread was very fresh, the meat plenty(hey, you'd usually pay extra for all of this turkey,) plus crisp bacon and cheese. I chose swiss, but the usual suspects and havarti no less were options. Like most deli's you can choose your veggies, and I added banana peppers. I didn't watch while my sandwich was being prepared so I had no idea how much Deli Belly emphasizes the quality and generous portions of their proteins. You see the photo of the sandwich? The ratio of protein to veggies has to be @ least 70%-this is the kind of meal you split into two on your workday and skip the snacks! But I ramble.... The sides are better than you might think;homemade flavors. I added salt and white pepper to the two salads and naturally, added a toasty flavor to the clam chowder with black pepper. The $20 I spent including tip will be served up into three healthy, pre-prepared meals. *WINNER for the best new deli I've visited in 2019-2020. Ahh, I'm not quite through. We recently moved to El Cajon and have been looking for a new sandwich shop. This place has great reviews, so we were enthusiastic about trying it. We finished our sandwiches, which were soggy and somewhat unappetizing, and then opened our desserts to discover huge green spots of mold all over the whipped cream. We came here a few days ago to get sandwiches before heading to the zoo for the day. It says the store opens at 10am but we pulled up around 10:10am and doors were locked and sign was off. Just as we were about to pull off to look for a different place to get food, the opener of the restaurant pulls up and gets out of the car and opens the restaurant at around 10:15am. We were the first to arrive and she took care of us but I just found it shocking that she was 15 minutes late to open the restaurant especially because right after we started ordering a few more people rolled through the door to wait to be served. I can't imagine what it would've looked like for her to arrive with several parties waiting in front of the door confused about whether the deli was going to open or not. That being said the sandwiches were pretty good and the prices are great. Delis like this make me wonder why anyone would continue to purchase food at Subway and Jersey Mikes when you can get a bigger, better quality and better tasting sub at a smaller scale deli for the same price if not cheaper. I enjoyed my food. I just wish they had more vegetarian options like a portobello mushroom sub or tofu or seitan based subs. If they can get more stuff like that on their menu I'll definitely be back for more. They have plenty of meat based subs and specialty subs though and there's even an option to build your own sub. I giving a 3 star because of the fresh ingredients but unfortunately the past 2 times I have called in orders they have been wrong (wrong bread every time) even when we are ordering directly from the menu without any changes. I owe Deli Belly an apology. In an earlier review I lamented the fact that they do not offer a lettuce wrap as an alternative to a sandwich. While that is true, they will turn any sandwich into a salad. With this new found knowledge I ordered the Reuben in salad form. Excellent salad! Deli Belly uses Boar's Head meats and cheeses which is a quality choice. The Reuben is pastrami, Swiss and a choice of coleslaw or sauerkraut on Rye with Thousand Island dressing. I really wanted that rye! But, alas, I am trying to save my diet cheating for the weekends, so a Reuben salad it was. This was a really good salad. The pastrami was piled on and little triangles of Swiss were scattered throughout. I would've enjoyed a bit more sauerkraut. The Thousand Island dressing was very good. They use Boar's Head deli products and you can also buy the deli meats and cheeses on their own. (This is a great option as some deli meats from Boar's Head are not easy to find at the grocery store right now, pastrami in my case.) If I could give 0 stars I would. I have never encountered anyone like the owner of this establishment. Robert was beyond unprofessional in how he spoke to us about our concerns. We paid 120 for a party tray that was supposed to be in a black container so it was presentable for my nieces 8th birthday party. We placed the order in person and the girl at the front showed us what the trays would look like and we agreed. My brother picked up trays and when he brought them to the party, the sandwiches were thrown in aluminum trays stacked and very messy, it almost looked like a salad. When we called to speak to Robert about it he seemed so annoyed with us and told us to stop complaining.
