This place is delicious! Fresh baked bread, delicious salads... what more do you want? My family and I were driving down from Northern California to San Diego and we made a stop here. This place really hit the spot. The food was good but the star of the show was truly the bread. To be honest from the reviews it didn't look amazing but it ended up being a surprisingly good dinner. Their bread is definitely the star of our experience. Like they literally have a open stone oven in the middle of the kitchen. Its super quick service, order then wait, and clean up after yourself. Exactly what I needed after driving for 5 hours. I had the Ahi Salad which was interesting. It was pretty light salad but it was the salad dressing was a little spicy which I liked. Always loved coming to Urbane Cafe. They have quick service, food comes out on point and prices are solid for the quantity and quality food you can get. I highly recommend the Southwest or SoCal sandwiches, each bit was delicious, merged with amazing flavor and together with the simple baked chips made my food experience here quite enjoyable. I think their sandwiches are ok. I remember having tried their popular So-cal sandwich years ago and was left underwhelmed. And recently, I had their Green Chili which was a tad better. It was smothered with aioli and cheese, more flavorful than the Rustic Rosemary (this was bland---i needed to add my own dressing sauce to it). Salad was decent with the balsamic dressing. But overall, the sammies didn't wow me yet again. So I don't get why people love it so much. Though, kudos to their all natural chicken! I just need more flavor out of 'em! I eat at Urbane every week with family and friends. I really like the food. Today I had my first bad experience. I ordered my food when the place was not crowded. My friend ordered his food right after me. About 10 minutes later my friend got his food and started eating. As he was finishing I decided to go back in and see where my food could possibly be. The food runner asked how I ordered the food and I showed him the receipt from the cashier. He said "oh it will be just a few more minutes. The kitchen is backed up." Now it was quite busy in the store. About 10 minutes later I went back in again. Still nothing. It was about a half hour total before I got my food. We took it to go since my friend was long done. My biggest problems were that many people who ordered after me already ate their food and left. The food runner was not interested and never apologized or pretended to care. I had to keep going into the crowded store to check on my food. The quality of the food was fine but I could tell it was thrown together in a rushed fashion. I'll chalk this up as a one off bad day for them. If it continues, I'll find another more efficient and friendly place to eat. Pull it together Urbane. read more

I'm overall a little disappointed with Urbane Cafe. I've been hearing from other friends that their service has sort of declined, and that got me worried! Today, I paid $3.75 extra for more Ahi Tuna on my Ahi Tuna salad, and all I received was chunks that appear to be one slice of fish. To be fair, i think that the last time I ordered the salad I only had about 3-4 slices, and today I have 7, but I wouldn't even offer "extra" tuna to be purchased, if it isn't really extra. On top of everything, the fish was pretty fishy and stale. In short, I paid over $12 for a salad that was primarily lettuce. The dressing is amazing though. My friend purchased the chimichurri sandwich, and the steak was super chewy and not something that she even enjoyed. I don't know how if I'll be back anytime soon. read more

Came from Long Beach to go to Six Flags. We were extremely hungry but didn't want anything greasy, heavy and super unhealthy. We found this place on our exit and it was a great decision. I got the Bhan Mi and it was super tasty! I do wish there was some drainage or platform under the sandwich so the sauce didn't make it soggy. Except for that it was great, it came with a light side salad (which I really needed). If I didn't live so far this would be on my go to's. Also please keep that Heath Bar Cookie!!! SO GOOD! Slow and Frustrating! I used to eat at Urbane Cafe 3-4 times per week. The food was always fresh, not too expensive and relatively tasty. I stopped going there however, unless I could get there between 11:30 and 11:45 as they got too busy at lunchtime and the wait was too long. My husband and I had a flight to catch today and wanted to be at LAX by 2:00. We got to Urbane Cafe at 11:45 and our receipt had an 11:47 time stamp. When we arrived there was one patron ahead of us and the restaurant was essentially empty. By 12:05, when we still hadn't gotten our food I went to inquire about it. There were at least 10-15 started plates for a single to go order. Had the cashier given us the information about the wait time when we placed our order we could have made a calm and rational decision to go elsewhere. Instead the manager assured me he'd bring our food out to us shortly. After 10 more minutes, now 12:15 (a 28 minute wait) and still no food I got my money refunded and left. At this point the line was out the door and not moving. The food is adequate and the cost ok, but unless you have a lot of patience and no time constraints I'd stay away from Urbane Cafe. Got here 5 minutes before opening and the staff still took our order. Which is nice because sometimes they make you wait. I ordered the chimichurri tri-tip with a side salad. Other orders in my party was the kids turkey, chicken basil pesto, farmers market salad and 2 orders of the soup/salad combo. For not being 100% ready (since we came early), everything came out in a very timely manner. Holy portions, I didn't think the portion sizes would be as big as they were, ever for the kids meal. My sandwich included chimichurri marinated tri-tip with chutney aioli, feta cheese and arugula that came with a side salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The sandwich was super tasty and it had a good bread to meat ratio. The ciabatta roll was very soft and filling. Towards the end, I just dumped out the inside of my sandwich and just ate it with the salad. This is my go to place to eat a somewhat healthy meal. All their sandwiches come with a delicious balsamic green salad and all the ingredients are very fresh and handled with care. They stuff their sandwiches with lots of great combinations (I recommend their vegetarian options) which fill you up. I usually eat half my sandwich and save the rest for later. It's a sandwich-dream-come-true!! I'm not a big sandwich lover but Urbane Cafe's Pesto & Sundried Tomato gourmet sandwich is slowly converting me bite by bite. Maybe it's their fresh hearth baked bread that's always served warm or that delicious creamy pesto mayo that finds its way into all the nooks and crannies mingling in with the mozzarella cheese, green leafy lettuce and sliced pieces of chicken & sundried tomato.. Whatever it is, it's great and has me daydreaming of it every week! I also like the side salad, it's lightly dressed with balsamic vinaigrette, sprinkled with feta (I think) cheese and topped with a few Mandarin oranges. Simple, fresh and delicious. Other menu items I've tried: So-Cal, The Californian & Caprese sandwich, all very good but that Pesto has got my number. Friendly service, clean venue and their pizza style oven provides a warm & cozy ambiance especially on cold, rainy days.-This place makes a great lunch spot, if they served wine, I'd definitely come for dinner =) If you're not completely starving, one sandwich might be enough to split. Love at first bite! This place lived up to the hype that's for sure. Creamy, dreamy soups, sandwiches & salads proportioned well to tie you over till your next meal. I've tried "The Californian" vegetarian sandwich that tasted like a fully stuffed veggie pizza. Trust me, you won't even miss the meat when you try this. Out of this world!! Everything complimented each other right down to the home made focaccia bread. The side salad with balsamic dressing was tart but not too much to make you pucker and the mixture of flavors with the mandarin oranges were so well balanced. The sandwich is made with artichokes, mushroom, jack cheese, sun dried tomatoes and aioli herbs and was beyond what I was expecting.
