My wife and I have eaten at the Urbane Cafe in Stevenson Ranch before, but its been quite sometime. As I recalled, they made some pretty good tasting sandwiches, so I suggested it to her this afternoon. We both ordered sandwiches that came with side salads. I got the Turkey cranberry brie, while my wife got the Santa Maria BBQ. The sandwiches seemed tasty as were the salads, until...as I was eating the salad, I could tell I bit into something hard. I spit it out and it was a piece of a shredded stick. I went to the counter and asked to speak to the manager. She apologized and not understanding that it was the salad that came with the sandwich, and not a separate salad, asked me if I wanted her to make a new one. I bluntly, told her I lost my appetite. Finally, after her asking what she could do, I asked for compensation at a future visit, should I get the courage to go back. She was nice, refunded the money for my sandwich, and gave me two complimentary coupons for a future visit. Unfortunately, the image of the shredded stick will remain with me for a long time, and its highly likely that I'll never use those coupons. I'd check your food very carefully before eating it. read more

I look forward to Fridays because Friday is the day I work in Valencia and the day I skip packing a lunch so that I can pick up Urbane Cafe during my lunch break. Great sandwiches and although they not might be as healthy as I'd like to think they are, the salad they each come with makes me feel a bit better about myself and the fact that I always have to get a bag of the honey mustard Kettle Chips because they're so hard to find (plus one star for carrying these chips!) What a great spot for a quick lunch. Our sandwiches were accompanied by a delicious mixed greens salad with mandarin oranges. We had the Santa Maria BBQ and UC Banh Mi Chicken. Both were good with a slight edge in flavor to the banh mi. The white chocolate cranberry cookie is delicious. I usually prefer a crispy cookie. This one is crisp along the edges but soft in the center. But the flavor - yum. A really good cookie. There was a small line when we arrived, but service was friendly, and our orders were ready promptly. Again, a great place to stop for a quick lunch. read more

Being the health conscious person I am, I decided to go for a healthy lunch after a long morning at the gym. Apparently, this was the spot to go to for a healthy sandwich. Although the So-Cal Sandwich sounded delicious, I wanted to go for a healthier option like the Rosemary Chicken Sandwich, which comes with a nice vinaigrette mixed greens salad with mandarin oranges and cheese. PRICE: Very affordable. The Sandwiches are about $7 average, which comes with a free side (salad, chips, fries). You can definitely share this with someone if you're not too hungry. PORTION: The sandwich is about 6-7 inches wide and 2 inches tall. They give you a good portion of meat, cheese, and veggies. The side salad is definitely a good portion. It's probably about 2 cups of mixed greens. TASTE: The combination of the melting cheese, tomato, rosemary, and chicken, is absolutely perfect. The salad was a little bland but at the same time, it's hard to expect much from a side salad which can be replaced by chips or fries. The only thing I didn't like about this meal was the texture of the chicken. The chicken was a little dry, therefore making the entire sandwich feel a little dry. If the chicken was a little more moist, then this sandwich would have definitely received 5 stars in my book. This place is definitely worth a try. I'm sure I'll be coming back for more. read more

I am obsessed with their bread. And this review is mostly for the food and one item in general. I cannot get enough of their southwest chicken sandwich (minus the pepper jack because I'm refrain from eating too much dairy). Maybe I'm obsessed because I love "southwest" style. I love black beans, onions, corn, and avocado. The chipotle mayo is delicious. The chicken is a little dry, but it's sliced so thin that that doesn't compromise the flavor of the sandwich overall. Also the mayo helps dress the meat. I just wish the side salad had more mandarin oranges on it so the sweetness could cut the taste of the balsamic dressing with every bite (not just three bites with the three slices). But the light feta cheese, along with the oranges, salad, and dressing is a perfect combination. I've never had a problem with calling for pickup, my frequent means of ordering food. You still have to wait in line to pay, but that's ok since you don't have to wait as long for food as the others who just placed their orders at the register. I had been to Urbane Cafe once before this visit, but I honestly couldn't remember anything about the food which should have told me something. Over-all, they use high quality ingredients and have great flavor combinations, but I felt there was a level of flavor that was missing in both of the sandwiches I tried. I'm not exactly sure what it needed, maybe just a bit more salt? Seems a simple fix.. could be something else though.‍ The flavors were good, it's just that it all seemed one-noted. Even the bread itself was slightly bland and a bit too thick in my opinion; it took away from what the ingredients were trying to bring to the table. This location is also a bit oddly shaped. There isn't very much seating (luckily there is outdoor seating as well) and to get to the drinks or restrooms, you have to side step your way through a narrow path with a bunch of people standing around waiting for their order. If someone else wanted to go to Urbane Cafe, I wouldn't mind going, but my wife and I feel like it is not a place we will choose to go to of our own accord. read more

I've been here twice and the food is alright. It's not anything special and it's quite expensive, but it is healthy, which is why it seems like people are always here. I ordered two salads that weren't even quite that big and it costed $15 dollars. Amazing, fresh, flavorful sandwiches and salads. It's hard to decide because everything looks so good - but I went with the Morrocan chicken sandwich. The ciabatta bun was soft and perfect, cheese was melted, chicken was delicious and sauce was fantastic. Also came with a light side salad with a balsamic dressing that was fresh and delicious. I couldn't help myself when I noticed the warm, heated cookies sitting by the checkout and do NOT regret getting a chocolate chip. Wow. 10/10 one of the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had. Discovered this gem while visiting CalArts on a very hot day. We arrived on a Saturday at opening time and there was already a group of people ordering (good sign #1). I was craving something light, fresh, and filling after a week of feasting and was happy to see their extensive salad and sandwich offerings. All the items sounded delicious but I decided to go with the seasonal Golden West salad. It took a while for our order to be prepared (good sign #2) which I was okay with because I figured they didn't prepare anything until you order it. The presentation was great! I looked at the menu online before and saw a soup that piqued my interest--artichoke bisque! As the soups rotate though, I assumed I wouldn't have the luck to try it. But, I walk in and there it is on the board! Ordered it with the normal side salad and of course the bread that comes with. It's a light, but rich soup, not super thick like a usual bisque, but delightful! I loved this soup. It had amazing dill flavor I didn't expect but adored. The artichoke isn't too much if it's not your favorite. The bread was great as usual: dense and soft, with coarse salt on top. And the salad was standardly fresh and tasty, and even bigger than that that comes with a sandwich. Very nice front service, and friendly help when I didn't see the water cups :) both of these employees were pretty quiet, but polite! I am a happy camper every single time I come here. I make a point to pass through Santa Clarita around lunch time just so I can stop here when I travel because my town doesn't have one. It's essentially walk up and order (look behind the registers and you might see them baking fresh bread by fire) and then they give you a buzzer thing to know when your food is ready at the window. I like this. It's much more professional than callouts and you know you won't miss your food while searching for a seat. The service here is always pretty friendly. I personally am obsessed with the southwest sandwich. I get it without avocado because I'm not a huge fan. It comes with these delicious side salads of real greens, dressing, cheese, and mandarins.
