This place has very fresh sandwiches and salads. This time I got my usual "the Californian" sandwich and received my order within 5-8 min. The staff taking my order was very friendly and efficient. Parking and seating inside the restaurant can be very difficult during peak hours (lunch primarily, but dinner as well). The sandwich itself comes with a side salad which is light and complements the meal well. The portion can easily be spaced between two meals and the sandwich itself is wonderful. With cheese, artichoke, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes, and chicken between two fresh slices of warm artisanal bread, I couldn't ask for more! read more

The tomato bisque here is absolutely amazing! I was in Stevenson Ranch, my sister and family live there, and I was looking for something tasty and easy-ish, so Urbane was suggested/recommended. I wasn't feeling a sandwich, too much bread and sounded a bit too heavy, but then a salad also didn't sound right, so soup to the rescue! It was delicious and so flavorful. I ate every lost drop and then licked my spoon clean! I decided to try this restaurant after driving by it many times. The restaurant was completely dead at 6:15 pm on a Saturday night. Not a good sign when the restaurant is located in a busy strip mall. Anyway I went inside and placed an order of a Cobb salad. Took it home and began to eat it only to discover as I bit into a piece of chicken a decent sized bone. Not only did I find this disgusting but I broke my tooth on it. So now I have a problem. While this place was very charming, I thought the food (specifically the sandwiches) wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I understand that their bread is very famous, and I know why. It's good, and that's all I expect from bread. Their sandwiches, on the other hand, could've been better for me. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. While I thought the bread was good, I couldn't taste the cheese. At all. I didn't feel like I was eating a sandwich, but more like bread with a little bit of grease. It's all about their bread. Everything else is okay. Their kale & quinoa salad barely has quinoa in it. Their Cafe Salad with chicken is just okay. Their chicken always taste funky to me and it is also dry. Their online ordering system is really easy to use. Being a french fry and hamburger kind of guy it takes a lot to get me to eat something from a hearth. Stopped by for lunch at the recomendation of a Veggie friend of mine. I heard stories of fresh baked bread and really good salads. Being a fan of neither I did it for the wife. Ordered up the So-Cal sandwich at the recommendation of the guy at the register and the wife ordered the chicken cob salad and a soda. Meal ended up rounding out to $14 & change. Less than $15 for the both of us made me happy and the fact that both items were assembled and ready for consumption in less than 5 minutes made me even happier. The bread was a really good change of pace from the typical sandwich breads, it consists of a thin dough flattened out and baked on location. The contents of both sandwich and salad were incredibly fresh. I even ate the salad that came with my sandwich. I ordered the So-Cal Sandwich which was: grilled chicken, avocado, tomatillo salsa, pepper jack cheese, green leaf lettuce and chipotle mayo served on hearth baked bread and a house side salad. Panera Bread...i mean...Urbane Cafe is not so bad when in Valencia and surrounded by malls, magic mountain and fast food; however do not be fooled by the gimmicky "Healthy Sandwiches, Soups and Salads" At Urbane the word healthy is defined very loosely so take it with a grain of salt and don't be fooled into thinking you are eating for your heart and body. There are no Fat-Free Dressings and while Fats are an important part of a healthy diet- the closest they have to a "natural" dressing is Italian (which doesn't say much). Their protein salad is good but scarce and overpriced at $7 when compared to a Chipotle salad. Cheese is loaded onto everything including the salads. My friend ordered the California chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo and it was also loaded with cheese. Nestled in between two pieces of freshly baked focaccia bread- indeed it was quite delicious- but again- not the least bit healthy. The decor is like a tiny Panera. Indoor and Outdoor seating. One small restroom in the back. The reason i am giving it three stars instead of two: - great/friendly customer service. - 20% of the proceeds from your table to to your organization (if you are fundraising for school-or something as such). - they donate food/cater fundraisers for neighborhood schools. * community responsibility is important and the fact that Urbane seems to be committed to it, makes me want to support this local business over a fast food giant- you may still be getting a sh*t load of calories but they do taste pretty good and in support if a business with commitment to community. read more

Especially if you are looking for healthy lunch options because you don't want screw your SECOND heart. OK, yeah, Urbane Cafe is a chain, there are like three in the whole country, all in California. But it's Valencia; there aren't really that many decent non-chain places outside of Maru. I noticed this place when I was picking up bagels for the office at Noah's. Remember it for lunch the same day - yes, I eat too much bread. Here is what's good about this place. 1) Fresh bread 2) Fresh ingredients - I haven't had them all yet since I can't eat much red meat anymore, but what've had has been good. 3) A fresh salad with every meal 4) Kettle Chips The salad is of particular note because it is fresh and made with mixed greens rather than iceberg, which I have a disdain for (on salads AND sandwiches). Word to the wise, they pre-dress the salad, overly so, and if you get the order to-go, it's served in the same container as the sandwich. As such, the over abundance of dressing will soak the bottom slice of bread, no bueno. As for sandwiches, so far I've had the Pesto and Sun-dried Tomato and the Grilled Portobello Mushroom. Both were good sandwiches that I would have again. Amazing everything!! My friends and I stopped by this restaurant on our drive back to NorCal and this place is conveniently located right next to the highway for a delicious eat and a quick get away. I got the SoCal sandwich and was overwhelmed at how delicious it was. The combination of warm melted cheese, grilled chicken, avocado, Chipotle aoili and toasted torta bread made the sandwich amazing. I wasn't even that hungry when I got the sandwich but I wanted to finish it all. In addition, each sandwich comes with a mixed green side salad. Surprisingly, the salad was fancy, with mandarin oranges, chicken and other ingredients that made it pretty tasty. They also made the sandwiches pretty quickly, within 5 minutes. I was on my lunch break, heading over to Subway, when I saw this place across the parking lot. At first I was a bit skeptical because I didn't have a whole lot of time or money to spend. It turned out to be perfect! It's a sit down cafe but you can also get it to go, which is super convenient. They have gourmet salads and sandwiches for fairly affordable prices. I had the Urbane Cafe Salad, which had chicken, pears, walnuts, and goat cheese. It was ridiculously good . It reminded me a lot of Stone Oven in the mall, but infinitely better. The sandwich is stuffed with grilled cajun chicken, corn and black bean salsa, avocado, pepperjack cheese, and chipotle aioli. It was almost unfair that the sandwich had all my favorite ingredients. Now, the chicken isn't grilled on the spot or anything, but it doesn't taste like microwaved frozen stuff from Ralph's. It has a good flavor and the fresh bread that they bake is the star of the show. Miles better than Stone Oven (my old favorite sandwich). I don't know how this compares to Mendocino Farms in LA, though. I love Mendocino and their wide variety of sandwiches...I'd have to try them side by side. I've been to Urbane Cafe a few times. The food here is just okay. A bit over rated for a 4 star yelp restaurant. Urbane reminds me of mall food. They make their own bread which is nothing spectacular and stuff it with sauced up meat. Sandwiches come with a side of greens with a vinagrette. It's convenient and quick if you're in the area. Great food but the service was so atrocious that I couldn't even enjoy my meal. While my order was being taken I was having trouble deciding on a chip flavor, after ordering my sandwich, I was clearly staring at all of the chips and the rude girl taking my order rushingly says "for here or to go?" I ignored her as it was clear I was trying to make a very important decision. Which followed by an even ruder and more rushed "FOR HERE OR TO GO?!" I told her to go, and she basically snatched the credit card out of my hand and swiped it. Threw my receipt and my buzzer at me and walked away. - don't worry.... I didn't want any chips anyways. While I was eating all I could hear was a group of about 4 or 5 employees (including the manager or owner) bantering back and forth about their breaks and their wages and 'why don't I make as much as her' and other nonsense that definitely SHOULDN'T be discussed in front of customers. I think the food was good, which is why I came. But the atmosphere and customer service was lacking, significantly. Won't be back - let this be a lesson to all restaurants....
