This place is awesome for an authentic salsa live band and dance. This was my first time here to experience salsa and it was quite fun. I was with a group of friends and we walked down from Tressettis. It helped we were with a regular named Rebeka, whom we met at Tresettis. I believe the cover was a bit steep ($20). However, she was able to get us in for free. Im not sure I would pay to go here, but if that doesn't bother you... go dance salsa because it's good clean fun. And a workout! And if you're aren't dancing... you will enjoy watching this Salsa. Be prepared to use your Spanish skills. The band only spoke Spanish . I heard they have salsa lessons on Thursdays for free!! I want to do that soon. It's was a Very clean place w/plenty of seating. . Nice bar. And nice people. I will look forward to goiback. They also serve food, however we didn't try any. I've been here twice. Today I stopped by around 11:30 for lunch. I was the only customer and ordered the Spicy Asian chicken salad to go. I was well attended and had a nice informative conversation with staff while waiting for my food order. The salad wasn't the traditional salad I'm used to, it was more modern and not soaked in a sesame ginger type of sauce. It was nice and refreshing with tons of purple cabbage, purple onion, nice juicy grilled chicken, carrots, spinach, dressing, and two handfuls of wonton chips. I enjoyed every bite. The other time I was here was for a Thursday bachata class with a couple of friends. We had a blast. The lesson was helpful and social dancing very fun. A mix of bachata, cumbia, and salsa was played by the DJ. It was busy but not packed, enough room to spin and not get hit. I'll definitely be coming back! Thanks Urbano's. read more

A great place to dine before going to the Gallo Center which is a block away. We had an amazing meal here! The Shrimp Bruschetta was so delicious. My husband really enjoyed the Ribeye with Gorgonzola and Mushrooms with mashed potatoes. I had the Salmon and Shrimp with roasted zucchini and red potatoes and lemon caper sauce. Loved it! Hats off to the chef! They have a bar. They could add more wine options though. They also have Jazz every other Monday. read more

Showed up at 9pm on 1 March 2024 to have a good time for a birthday. First time there and the atmosphere, and service was average. The mixed drinks were very sweet, watered down, and not decently priced for the amount of liquor in each one. Entrance fee was $20...not a problem...what made it a problem was the DJ. The DJ would stop the music 5+ times during a track for shout-outs. Now the shout-outs didn't happen between songs, like good DJs should, they happened during. It was horrible and it was like playing musical chairs on the dance floor. I think the only reason people did not say much is because the patrons were an older crowd around their late 40s and up. Another note on the DJ...it appeared they couldn't read the room, because they tried playing club music with a crowd of older folks that appeard to be rancheros. The dance floor would empty when latino club music would play, and the DJ didn't appear to catch on because, from what I remember, it happened 5 times within the 3 hours I was there. In summary, I do not recommend anyone come here for the music when they have their DJs going. Especially if you're being charged a $20 entrance fee to listen to a DJ that stops music 5+ times duing a track for shout outs. Good luck Urbanos and I hope you improve, because I wont be going back or recommend your establishment to anyone. Maybe when I forget my experience and don't remember if I was a patron, I may go back...and hopefully there is a change by then. read more

This place hosts live music where they will charge their patrons $50 a ticket for you to go stand in a parking lot. No chairs no tables and if you want a table it was $250. Times for the groups that were going to be there all out of place so if they listed a group you wanted to see or listen to at 8 and they played at 3, you missed it. They hosted a live event on August 28 and it was shut down by Modesto Police Dept. They told us to go inside the restaurant after they had to shut down and that the live music would continue there, only to find out it was a private party where those from that private party were upset (rightfully so) but those people from the party didn't go about it the right way. They were mad at us, very disrespectful because we were invading their space BUT, the staff from Urbanos told us to go in and we didn't know what was going on so the party people should have taken it up with Urbanos staff and not us. Never again and hopefully my review will save some of you from making the mistake and trusting Urbanos either to host your personal party or any live events where they will be charging you any money. Very disappointed. We did not get our money back and they staff kept pushing it off acting like they were trying to do something about it when in fact they were not. read more

Monday night, 6:00, we're the only people there and the service was horrible. You'd think we'd be the most important thing in the place, but drying the classes at the bar must have been hi on the todo list. When we did order, we ordered two of the A1 gorgonzola burgers and a jalapeño burger, all with garlic fries. .................. 30 minutes later, we got our burgers, which were warm at best. The jalapeño mysteriously turned into another A1 gorgonzola burger. They tasted good, but would have been great if they didn't sit on a shelf as our waiter looked at his phone and continued to dry glasses at the bar. The buns looked as if someone had stacked something on top of them - flat as a pita. The place's ambience is far better than the service or the food. Seems a bit mismatched. We didn't say anything, mainly because I don't think it would have mattered. In the end, we left a 10% tip and I felt generous doing that. read more

Waited forever for burnt, frozen food. I went with a group of 8 during the lunch hour today and Urbano was awful. **Reason #1: only 2 other parties were in the restaurant (one a party of 4, the other a party of 3) and it took them almost 15 minutes just to take our order. **Reason #2: it took another 30 minutes to even start to receive our food; which I had to get up and ask a server to put all of them into to go boxes because we had to get back to work. **Reason #3: BURNT BURGER! Not only was the Cajun Burger burnt but it was crumbly dry because it was SO overcooked and additional dryness because they forgot to put the Cajun mayonnaise on it. **Reason #4: crinkle-cut French fries. Don't get me wrong, I love them but when I go to a restaurant that looks as nice as this one and the burger and fries costs $10, I expect fresh made fries (it's not that hard). **Reason #5: I work only 5 short blocks away and I was still 15 minutes late coming back to work. (therefore I took a 75 minute lunch) If you happen to have a lunch break more than an hour than you will ONLY have to complain about the food. The other people in my party ordered salads and/or pastas. And the salads were overpriced for the meek amount you receive and the pasta dishes weren't anything to rave about. read more

Tried Urbano today for the first time at lunch with a coworker. It was pretty empty. We received good service and were done within an hour - always a feat in Modesto. I ordered the small size strawberry ginger salad with chicken. It was tasty and cheap! The chicken was juicy but not fatty and the strawberries were great. I had the dressing on the side - would have been too much if poured over the top. I would definitely try it again. read more

I want to start off by saying that this place has great potential, and that despite what I'm about to write, I am rooting for them and would go back. Let me start off with the pros: place is lovely. Very chic and clean, looks like it'd be a great place to hang out. Our server was very friendly, food came out in timely (not too soon to make us think it was ready-to-go, not too long to make us restless) fashion, and the flavors -- for the most part -- were good. I had the rustic spinach salad, and my friend the jalapeno burger with fries. Now the con: The food just doesn't match up with the vibe of the place. A space like this looks like it would offer something unique, contemporary, and of course, flavorful. While the food wasn't bad, it was just.....eh. The biggest offender: frozen fries. Come on, guys! The salad that accompanied it looked very generic; just a bag of iceberg lettuce mix with some ranch slopped on top. Our server, who again I must stress was very friendly, appeared to be new at this. Customers shouldn't have to prompt you regarding their order. If the burger comes with the salad, make sure to mention that, don't wait for the customer to ask you about it. Same with the dressings, and how the customer wants their burger cooked, etc. If the staff here were just slightly better trained, and the chefs upped their game a bit, I think this place could be outstanding. read more

Gave Urbano another chance. Instead of online reservations my friend actually called around noon yesterday to make a reservation at 5pm before our Gallo show. Reservation was taken and verbally confirmed for Thursday 1/4 @ 5pm. Well we showed up at 5 and the place was locked up and dark. Not one person inside. We waited for awhile but it was very obvious they were not ready to open for a dinner service. The schedule on the door confirmed they served dinner 5-9. My question is how do they stay in business? One block from Gallo... this could be a gold mine. Well ate somewhere else and had a wonderful dinner. The show was great so all was good. This was the most horrible experience ever. We waited 30 minutes for them to even come to our table to even offer drinks. We finally get around to place our order after I tracked the waitress down and she forgets her pen and said she will be right back. 20 minutes go by and I find her waiting for another food order to come up. So then our appetizers come out way after our food gets delivered at different times. Our friend's chicken dinners are both raw. I had to track the waitress down again after another 20 minutes to tell her that the chicken is raw and my sister still doesn't have her salad. She brings the chicken finally back cooked. They put the chicken back on the same plate after so that raw juice just leaked into the vegetables and mashed potatoes. They asked her if it was a fresh plate and she said it was. Well if that's the case it wouldn't have looked picked at and the mashed potatoes and vegetables wouldn't be cold. My sister finally got her salad. This is just unacceptable. read more

Today we decided to try something new for lunch. There had been a Facebook event circulating for a few weeks so we headed down there. When we walked in, it was busy with only 3 tables available. We stood at the podium for a time and no one acknowledged us. I finally had to stop a waiter and ask him if we seated ourselves? He said someone would be with us. We are finally seated, given water and that's it! The same gentleman who sat us, who was busing tables as well, finally checked on us and wanted to know if we've been checked on yet, we told him no, we didn't even have menus yet. He apologized and brought us the menus, as he started to walk away I asked for a drink. He brought me the drink, and that was the last we saw anyone again. We finally had enough, my husband walked outside, I went over to the gentleman and asked for the tab for my drink because we were leaving. I told him nobody has acknowledged us (besides him) and we aren't going to wait anymore. A female that was waiting tables, overheard as well. They both apologized, offered to make it right. Now, to their credit, they did take care of us at this point, comped part of our lunch and drinks, got our order out quickly, ahead of others. The food was average. The burger was overcooked, fries looked undercooked, asked for regular fries and got garlic fries. I do appreciate they tried to fix the horrible service that we received. It couldn't have been a surprise they were going to busy based on the FB response. The owner needs to hire or schedule more wait staff, and speed up the service. After reading the other reviews, it's seems to be a common denominator. We probably won't be back, it too bad because it is nice inside with music and all on a Sunday afternoon. read more

Went with my partner for Valentine's Day 2019. They had a prix fix menu at $55.00 per person with 3 different entree options, which was fine. We both ordered the New York steaks. Our server was great. When the steaks arrived, they were like show leather and full of fat and gristle. Our server returned to ask how our food was and I told her. She felt bad and asked if we wanted them re done or if we would like to try something else. We both decided to go with a chicken dish. When that was brought out, the chicken was so so and masked potatoes were cold and lumpy. Totally disappointment!! I discussed it the next day with Kevan who manages the restaurant. He said he would look into it. A day later he said he spoke with the owners, and they offered us a $50.00 gift certificate. I told him that wouldn't suffice, as our total bill was $118.66 for a lousy meal! Why would we want to go back for a $50.00 gift certificate. He said that he couldn't do more. What a joke and bad business!! It's a industrial style restaurant and nightclub. Very Modesto. Trying to compete with New American San Francisco style...not even close. So I came when this place turns into a dance club at night. $10 cover charge after 10pm? Ouch. It was not packed at all, but it took forever to get drinks. The place is spacious, I'll give them that. The few chairs and tables near the wall nice so no one has to stand all the time. Some Suggestions: Hire more bartenders. Two bartenders was not enough for a place that has people crowded at a bar that long. Get organized. I watched so many times how the bartender was asking around for liquor and mixers. WHY? It was one of the reasons getting drinks took longer than it should. Lastly, invest in a soda dispenser. It will make things run so much more smoothly! read more

Service was good but they don't know how to cook a steak. I asked for a medium-well steak and they gave me a medium-rare with the outside SUPER crispy. I felt as if they seared the steak for too long and when it came time to really cook it, the outside started to burn. So they left it with hopes that it would cook on its own. Too bad because that was a good size steak. Also, the food didn't have a lot of flavor. You had to rely more on the A-1 steak sauce and greens were soggy as well. This was the first time trying this restaurant. I called in orders to go. They took my order and said 10 minutes. We drive down 15 minutes later and are asked to sit. The waiter comes back a few minutes later and states they changed their menu and one of the meals was no longer available, gave me the menu and asked me to pick something else. I order something else he leaves comes back a few minutes later and says the have already made the chicken for my sandwich and what do I want on it. So, the total wait time was 45 minutes for food that was only ok. There needed to be more flavor. Everything was bland. read more

This was the first time eating at this restaurant. It was recommended by my moms dentist office manager. Let me preface this by saying that I'm one of THE pickiest people ever and I LOVED the food. I ordered the Jalapeño Burger and it was amazing! You have a choice of a veggie or beef patty. It comes with sautéed red onions, mushrooms, and pepper jack cheese. The beef patty was seasoned perfectly. My mom ordered the Chipotle Pasta and she LOVED it! She's a retired cook and always has something to say about the food she orders when we eat out. It's missing this or that! Well, she wasn't doing much talking, she was too busy eating and saying mmmmmmmm!!!! The place is run by two brothers. We met one of them and he is very friendly and personable. I would recommend this place to everyone. He told me that they have salsa music, rock music and poetry readings on the weekends. I really wanted to like this place and was excited to try it. We came by to check out the Bacon Brunch featuring the bacon-inspired menu a few weeks ago. The restaurant was about half full with a few large parties. My family and I stood at the front hostess desk for 20 minutes and were never acknowledged. Because we wanted to give this place a shot, we waited patiently and looked at the menus. Another 10 minutes had passed and another party (of 4) walked in, were greeted and seated immediately. We still hadn't been acknowledged. There were 3 servers and someone who may have been the host conversing in a back corner. I excused my interruption and let the host know that we had a party of 4. He said to give him a minute and he'd get a table together for us. The servers and host went back to their conversation. 5 minutes later, another party of 4 walks in and was seated while my family and I were left waiting. I have a lot of patience, but wish that things could've been handled differently by the staff. I wish that we would've been acknowledged, that the staff would've let us know they would be right with us, that they would've taken our names down and given us an estimate of how long the wait would be, that someone would've offered to get us a drink and/or appetizers while we waited for over 45 minutes (we would've gladly paid for this), and that there was some reassurance that we would be taken care of. Needless to say, we left and went to Surla's instead. I am a big supporter of local small businesses, but Urbano has a lot to learn. It has a lot of potential, is in a great location, but is in dire need to be schooled in the art of customer service if it expects to survive. read more

My menu was held together with rubber bands, ordered a dirty martini, it tasted horrible, it was freezing, the coffee was NOT good and the waitress spilled a drink in my feet without noticing. To be fair, the nachos were really good. Whatever their special sauce was is amazing. The chicken artichoke penne pasta was watery and didn't have even a hint of the wine sauce as advertised. Okay, as you can see, I am not one to write a really bad review as sometimes one visit isn't fair to the owners. However, I am making an exception. First, the good impressions. The young lady who seated us in the "empty" restaurant (only 3 other people there at 6:00 pm, on a Friday should have been a clue) was nice. Anyway, she sat us at a table that when I leaned on it, sounded like it was going to break. No big deal. Our waiter was nice, busy but nice. He took our order which was: Tea, Beer, bruschetta, shrimp taco's and rib eye steak. Sounds good right. Well, the beer and tea were okay. The bruschetta was warm, appeared to be freshly made with entire gloves of garlic on each piece, canned tomatoes sauce and I think cheese, or plastic not sure. We ate, and we waited for your main course. My date, she got her costco deep-fried shrimp in taco truck taco shells about 15 minutes after the appetizer. You ask how was the steak. As he brought out the taco's, he said the steak would be right out. .................. 30 minutes later, no steak, ever. My date finished her meal, and by this time our waiter came over and I beat him to the punch, where's my meal. He told me it takes a while to cook the steak. I think he meant it takes a while to go find a cow, kill it, butcher, season it and then cook it. Well, needless to say, I said cancel the steak. You would think at this point, maybe he would say. I am so sorry, let me do something to make this right. No, he just brought the bill for $35.00 for taco's and a good beer. So, the folks behind us ordered after us, got one steak, the other two folks didn't get their food, so the guy divided his up, it appeared he could hardly cut. Here is my observation: This is not a restaurant, but a hip hop club, that uses the restaurant exemption for a full liquor license, to circumvent the laws that regulates such things. The stage, which the waiter was hooking up wires to for sound was more important then his customers. Best part, when we were leaving he said, sorry.. Come back soon. I suspect we will be back...never and I telling everyone to find a taco bell if they want a better taco, and the steak... I have no advice on that one... Went this past friday night with my husband and service was horrible. The place was full and they only had 3 people working on a friday night. It took about 15 minutes to get our drinks. We were waiting for a friend to meet us and not once while we were waiting did we get checked up on to see if we wanted more drinks or any appetizers while we waited. We waited probably for over a half hour and once our friend got there we decided to just pay for the 2 drinks we had and leave. We had to go up to the bar to pay because nobody ever came to check on us. One of the worst service experiences I have had and we will probably never go back because of it. read more

It was 9 pm on Saturday and we went downtown to check out Urbano. As we approached the front door, two security guards said we couldn't go inside. The bar was completely empty so we thought they were setting up for the night still? After waiting for a couple of minutes I asked when we can go in and their response was that there is a $20 cover charge per person... Well that didn't answer my question and $20 to get into an empty bar in Modesto with rude security? No thank you. We left and went to the Tiki lounge instead. read more
