What a disappointment! I love Hugo's and Caracol and was expecting the same quality, but this location was NOT up to par. To start with, they don't have waiters, so if you need anything such as salt, more water etc you have to go and get it yourself, yes, like a Denny's. We had the oysters, the papas bravas and the elote as appetizers: the oysters had a black tint to them like they had been opened for hours and we had brunch (10:15ish)! The shrimp in the oysters looked over cooked and it was obvios that it was frozen, it was just white. The papas bravas and elote where very forgettable as best. The gorditas where DRIPPING in oil, the plate was soaked in oil as well. My husbands tacos where a disaster as well, he said they were bland, and when we asked for a consomé (soup where you dip your taco) it tasted like water with cinnamon and anise. This is the BEST Mexican restaurants in Houston. And that's saying something because this city has great Mexican food. The arachera is similar to fajitas but better quality meat and cooked to perfection. It's family friendly, incredible margaritas and delicious tortillas. I can't say enough good things. And judging from the piles of rice I saw still sitting on other plates, that opinion is widely shared. Chicken enchiladas? This was the worst fajita quality I've ever had. I ordered the huevos rancheros with beef fajita. Stringy and fatty. Also their breakfast does not come with tortillas. My boyfriend ordered the Barbacoa tacos, we were so disgusted with the amount of fat that would drip every time he took a bite of his taco. I also ordered an almond croissant, I asked if it could be warmed, but instead of warming it in a toaster or oven they put it in the microwave, and he came out soggy ... Definitely not coming back to this restaurant. Try Hugos though, they do a better job on food quality. read more

I loved my first experience at Urbe because of the food, friendly service and ambiance! The ceviche is a must-have with Totopos, it had the perfect amount of lemon that had me wanting more. The quesadilla filled with potato and mushroom paired super well with the red sauce provided. The ostiones callejeros and papas bravas could've used more spice imo but still delicious. My waitress was so sweet and nice. It was my first time here and she was patient with helping me order. We LOVE Urbe! My daughter and I have been going there almost every Sunday so we can share brunch. Sometimes we even let her brother join us! The food is soooooooo good! We love it and we are looking forward to come back. The flavors are just as I remember growing in Mexico City. The pescado a la talla was outstanding and the cochinita pibil was full of flavor. The fried fish was nice and crispy on the outside and warm and soft inside. My partner had the Carnitas plate and that was equally as good! The food was full of flavor! We never have dessert but the food was so good, we had to see if the dessert was just as good and we were NOT disappointed! We had the chocolate cake, it was delectable! I love the food and drinks that are provided here. The service was questionable. We showed up and decided to sit in the outdoor seating. We were quickly approached by a manager with menus and told to either order inside or through the QR code on the table. OK. We ordered on the phone but were left waiting 15-20 minutes with no waiter dropping by the table. Our food got to us prior to our drinks. We had to ask for water since clearly nobody was waiting on us outside. We were going to order another drink but found it hard to make another order on the app and again, found we had nobody to ask. We Decided it best to hit the road and thought the tab was closed since the QR link had nowhere to add or change anything on the order. It appeared complete . I Woke up today to see they charged full gratuity on a meal they provided no service, no follow up or check ins on. Thanks for that experience. And I don't recommend using the QR code or sitting outside prior to 4pm. read more

Sunday brunch was great. Noticed no other reviewers mentioned the Campechana which was excellent. I almost avoided since menu listed orange Fanta was in it. I asked a manager who told me you could not taste the Fanta. He was right. Next table ordered the oysters on the half shell topped with shrimp. It looked great - next time. Flautas were the best I have over had. Street corn was a tasty side. Despite other reviewers I feel the ordering at the counter and having the food brought to the table worked great. No this is not Caracol but neither are the prices. My service overall was very good. Glad to see so many people working. Great job on converting the previous tired Café Express into this vibrant Mexican (not just another Tex-Mex) restaurant. Just what Uptown Park needed. read more

Urbe is aesthetically pleasing and it's location is great surrounded by desserts places, a coffee house and nice shops. However, you don't want to go to a restaurant just for their looks, if you're like me you're there for the good eats. Unfortunately that wasn't my experience at Urbe. I was excited to try this place since I know it's from Chief Hugo, but soon I realize the quality of food wasn't the same as Hugo's. I ordered the barbacoa tacos, but in my book they were more like brisket tacos then Mexican barbacoa. The meat was over seasoned and overpowered the flavor of the meat. The pambazo was more like a a deconstructed breakfast torta since it was missing the main element that makes a pambazo different, which is the bread being dipped and fried in a red salsa. I was also surprised to see papas bravas in the menu since in my many trips to Mexico, I've never seen them being sold as a street dish and I thought they were more like a Spanish dish. The prices for the food were good and affordable, but the mix drinks and other drinks like aguas frescas were overpriced. Also, one thing that I thought was a bit odd was the seating arrangement, if you're dining in you have to wait to be seated by a hostess but then you have to go and place your order at the counter. I would've rather have the option to go straight to order then find a table. Overall, I don't think I'll be going back to Urbe since we have plenty of choices in Houston for good Mexican food. read more

My boyfriend and I came to the galleria area and wanted to get some Hispanic food so we found this place on Google maps. It wasn't too busy and we were seated relatively quickly. My huge complaint is that the cup they had given us for pouring the beer into was obviously dirty. You could see the hardened leftovers of a previous drink it was clearly not cleaned properly, if at all. It made me question the quality of the actual food and I just couldn't stomach eating there knowing this. Out of sight is ok to me, but an obvious dirty cup is not a good look. I'd just like for the owners to see this review and put some time into the cleaning of the cups and plates and everything. Taste is one thing, but obvious unclean bits of pulp need to be better handled. read more

We made a reservation for 6:30pm on a Saturday evening but were in the area so we showed up at 5:45pm and they were able to accommodate us. It was busy but not completely packed. Many people say outside because it was a nice day and the outdoor seating it plentiful. The atmosphere is VERY casual almost shockingly so. Definitely not what I was expecting so be prepared. If you have children this is definitely a family friendly environment. If you are able to order before 6 I think they have happy hour every day and the happy hour menu is actually very good! Some places only give you very limited options but they had quite a few. We started with a spicy margarita and a Paloma and both agreed we loved the drinks. We ordered the diablitos and the campechanita off the happy hour menu. They were both okay, I am glad we got them at happy hour prices and sizes. I don't know if I would order them again. My husband ordered the barbacoa and I ordered the birria. We both enjoyed our meals but especially loved that they were served in a deconstructed fashion for you to make your own tacos or meal in the way you wanted (I.e. the amount of cilantro to avocado to meat ratio you personally like). We ended up taking churros home to go and they were still great to enjoy at home later so I'm sure fresh they're amazing. Service was good and food was pretty good. Had dinner at URBE last night and everything was so yummy. For the appetizer, we had the gorditas, which are the perfect size. You can tell they had been freshly made and definitely left me wanting more. For those wondering how many come in the order, it's 3 and they are about the size of your palm. For my entree, I had the chicken enchiladas which were bomb! I absolutely loved them. The entree came with 2 enchiladas and a side of black refried beans and rice. I wasn't a fan of the rice at all but the beans were so good. My husband had the Carnitas for his entree. He said they were very tasty but wished he had ordered the enchiladas. We also got a side of the papas bravas and that was a great choice for a side. The one thing that was GAME CHANGER was the habanero salsa. We ordered about 5 sides of it. Seriously so delicious and a MUST if you like a kick with your food! For dessert, I had a cappuccino and the churros- which tasted just how you imagine but nothing really out of this world. All this to say- we will be back! I'm excited to try other things on the menu. Prices were reasonable too so that's always a plus! read more
