I've not seen any other taco place to this, but rather other places will wrap the taco flat and by the time you open it, the contents have spilled out. No bueno. Went to PCT on a Thursday night. It's an order at the counter kind of restaurant. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I went with the elotes in a bowl, guacamole and chips, a fried fish taco, and a fried shrimp taco. Elotes - it was ok. I felt like it was kind of dry for elotes. May give it a try again and ask if they could make it saucier. Guacamole and chips - I'm really not a fan. I think they put mango in their guacamole, and I'm not a fan of that. It made it seem a bit sweet, and it was also very tart for some reason. Wouldn't order it again. Fried Fish taco - they use Cod, which to me is the best kind of fish to put on a fish taco. With that being said, this wasn't the best fish taco I've had. The batter wasn't very tasty to me. Next time, I think I'll order grilled fish tacos. I ordered tacos from here for the lunch drop at work. I got the korean beef and the bang bang shrimp. They were both very sweet. No spice with the bang bang. The toppings were lacking. It's basically just a bunch of cabbage and nothing else. The beef was really tough and not seasoned well. The shrimp was reminiscent of frozen box shrimp. Finally tried this place again since my first experience was so MEH and am sad to say there were serious letdowns. We both got the Korean taco and it's gotta be up there with the most overcooked beef either of us have ever had in our lives. The flavors weren't bad, but the texture of rock hard beef on a very dedicate jicima tortilla was pretty awful. My fish taco was good, not great, and there was a wimpy amount of chipotle sauce so it was on the bland side. My boyfriend said his veggie taco was disappointing. The salsas are half good- the habanero salsa (orange) which was the texture of water and the roasted tomatillos salsa (darker green) was the texture of strawberries preserves. The star of the show was the Hawaiian poke. The tuna was fresh and the sauce was perfect with it, it had a nice sesame and sought citrus flavor and was not overpowering or sweet. This is one of the best places to get breakfast tacos inside the loop. They have a great selection of options depending on whether you want meat or want to avoid cheese. If you are looking for some of the basic bfast tacos dont forget to look at their Average Joe tacos too. I originally overlooked this part of the menu. They have great breakfast potatos and their salsa bar is really good too. My favorite is the habanero salsa; it's not as hot as I initially expected but it has great flavor and kick. My fiance loves the garlic salsa which I think is their spiciest offering. I also love how they package their bfast tacos up almost like mini burritos. As for the other ones (pork banh mi, Korean beef, bang bang shrimp), I didn't get the "wow" factor I was hoping for. Came here again to redeem a $5 off birthday voucher. Their system had some issues, but the manager was able to give me the credit manually. I got the bang bang shrimp taco on jicama. It was pretty large but not super filling because of the jicama shell (you can sub for flour)! The one thing I would change is the amount of sauce in the taco. It was so overfilled I had to tilt the taco sideways and dump out most of it! The shrimp is very saucy to begin with so the excess sauce did not feel necessary to me. Pacific Tacos... was... (to put it lightly) a culture shock experience as a Houstonian. I am always exploring different food/cuisines and love trying something different. The coastal taco menu seemed creative and different from the Houston Taco scene (which typically feature Mexican Street Taco or Tex Mex Tacos) so I was excited to try.... But some things really put me off about PCT... (1) Their Guac does not appear to be fresh... the consistency and flavoring was akin to a shelf-stable guac dip they sell packaged at the grocery store in the hummus section... It was to say the least, very disappointing. Their queso was alright though! (see photos) (2) I am not super convinced that the chips were that fresh. It felt like they took packaged chips and put them under a heat lamp? (3) The corn tortillas tasted like they came out of a package as well and were not properly toasted (if at all) before serving. The flour tortillas did taste toasted on the grill. While some of the menu items were pretty solid (the bang bang shrimp for example was nice, crispy and had great flavor)... Overall to me, it felt like most of the items just didn't hit quite right in taco form... The jicama taco shell was interesting, but I would have almost rather the jicama come julienned in the taco, rather than as the shell. (note: jicama shells are the default on some of their tacos). I think as a gluten free, corn-free option, it works... but it wasn't 'optimal' flavor profile for me. One thing that PCT did have going for it though, was it had a pretty lively crowd on the Friday night that we went. The interior is colorful and the games were on so it was a pleasant environment... Verdict: Tacos are better than Velvet Taco, if you can forgive the 'sins' listed above. What we had: - The Ultimate Beef Taco - Which was surprisingly (given that it's not 'coastal') my most favored taco of the bunch - The Fried Fish Taco - Which my partner really liked - The Bang Bang Shrimp Taco - Good shrimp, not sure it was better in taco form though - The Pacific Veggie Taco - fine - Jerk Chicken Taco - confusing... because the sauce really didn't work in my opinion... it was oddly mayo-y and sweet? I've been here a handful of times and have gotten something different each time. I've enjoyed almost everything I've eaten here and really like their unique spin on things. It's counter service and never takes too long. I also like the salsa and topping bar where you can load up and try a little of everything. The pork banh mi and bang bang shrimp tacos are probably my favorites here but I've also really enjoyed the thai chicken chili taco and the queso. The grilled fish taco was a little too fishy for me. I recently had the jicama and cucumber salad which was really nice and refreshing but seemed to lack something, maybe some dressing.
