This place was nestled in a small shopping complex. We were a table of 5 and were seated right away. The host was friendly but took awhile to get us utensils and water. The kids ordered udon and enjoyed it while we opted for some sushi. The waiters were friendly and quickly came by with our food. Sushi was good - we didn't order anything special just kappa maki's and rolls we normally enjoy. Ambiance was quiet and relaxing. Halfway through our meal, he didn't check on us and we needed more napkins. Had to ask him while he was in the middle of a conversation with another patron. He brings it over and again apologizes. Too many apologies, not enough attentiveness. The food was forgettable as well. The spicy sashimi salad was unequal parts sour and salty depending where you stuck your fork. My friend doesn't like fish but this place had so many alternative options that she has no problem coming with me! I got the sisters choice roll and the K story roll. Came here for lunch with a few friends. Appetizers were good. I decided to ask the owner/our waitress for her recommendation based on two rolls I was debating between- the Urbn and the lemon roll. She recommended the Urbn but to be honest, it tasted off (couldn't tell why) and my whole table agreed. I couldn't finish the roll so I asked if we could have a replacement and the owner was very understanding and accommodating. I've had the dish before at other places, but here the tuna wasn't spicy enough and the rice was hard as a puck. Really disappointing for the price. My coworkers liked it more than I did. For my roll, I got the Red Hot Chili Pepper. It had some heat to it and the fish was fresh, but it was pretty boring flavorwise. There was nothing special about it if I'm being honest. It's okay. The fish quality here ranges from very good to extremely horrible. We are purists and prefer nigiri. It was so bad. The blue fin tuna was cut poorly. It was thick, uneven, and sooo fatty. Required way too many bites. The uni - inedible. It tasted like salty moldy crap you find on the bottom of your shoe. The basics, like the crab and the salmon were fine, they were not great. My friend from norcal, (who clearly has not had any other san diego sushi) claims this is the best, i disagree, it was near the worst. Server was ok. Sort of slow and there were only other 2 other customers in the restaurant. The restaurant is pretty nice though. Well decorated. I've definitely had better at half the price. Stopped by URBN sushi this afternoon after giving up on the long lines to enter UTC shopping mall. Was originally planning to eat at Viet Nom in the same plaza but with rainy weather and long lines at the door (did everyone in San Diego decide to come out to eat today?) I decided to try URBN Sushi a couple of doors down. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I entered only two tables had people eating there, that should have been a sign for me to leave but I figured I would give it a shot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] With the chilly weather I opted for a shrimp udon soup with a side of chicken karaage. The restaurant provides a small cup of edamame on the house which is a nice touch. The soup and Karaage arrived at about the same time. The karaage batter was a bit disappointing. Not crunchy or flavorful, hard to describe but almost like the chicken had been fried in general purpose flour perhaps. The udon soup was a bit better though the two shrimp tempuras that came with it were fairly greasy. I didn't get a chance to try the sushi but I'll try and give the restaurant a second chance and try it the next time. Hope I won't regret it. read more

The chicken was moist and the veggies crunchy but I'm not sure why they added purple cabbage as I think it gave the dish an odd taste which necessitated a generous pour of soy sauce to balance it out. Complimentary edamame while we looked the menu over. Got the salmon belly, steak tataki, and the Toro nigiri. Loved the salmon belly and the Toro (buttery and just melts in your mouth with a $20 price tag for two pieces). Steak tataki was a little tough but had a great flavor and spice to it. Loved the Summer Lovin' veggie roll with asparagus, avocado, and cucumber. It was a refreshing roll to offset the rest of the proteins and carbs. Forgot what the second roll was but it had shrimp tempura and crab inside and maybe a tuna on top?. Either way, that was also really tasty. All in all a solid weeknight dinner. This place might just be one of our new favorite sushi spots! Craving for some fresh sushi, we stumbled here since we weren't close to our typical spots and was getting pretty hungry that we wanted something nearby. Luckily, we got here pretty early to avoid the lunch rush and to take advantage of the lunch specials they have to offer. The service was top notch! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the hostess and seated right away. Within seconds we had some complimentary edamame and our drink orders were taken. We ended up trying the sashimi combo which was very delicious! It came with a 3 different samples of sushi bar salad which was definitely a treat. We especially liked the ika sansai salad- we really should have ordered more of that! The star of the meal was of course the sashimi which was very fresh. The freshness of the food made this meal so good- just writing about makes us want to go back for more. Parking doesn't seem to be an issue since there is plenty in the plaza where they are located but it does seem to get busy. We got here pretty early so we didn't have any issues but it did start to get busy as the lunch hour began to start. We can only imagine it being pretty popular in the evenings but they do offer reservations that can be made online or by calling. No music. No nice vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]For some reason, it's uncomfortable sitting there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I like the food but the discomfort makes me go elsewhere. Maybe they just need to turn off half the lights and invest in Spotify premium. Honestly pretty mid - I went here for ease of parking, since a lot of places in San Diego can be a challenge for parking. This place not only serves sushi but also bento boxes and other Japanese food. We went primarily for the sushi, so we got the Orange Crush roll and spider roll, as well as the sashimi salad and katsu lunch special with tempura. The orange crush roll has scallop and salmon, with lemon wedge, which is quite unique as I don't really see many rolls with citrus in it. Sadly, there is a reason - or maybe they just didn't do it well - the flavors don't mesh up. The spider roll was fairly good, but you cannot really mess it up with the soft shell and California roll base. Sashimi salad was good - lots of fresh sashimi, and the dressing is delicious too. The sashimi flavor may be masked by the dressing, however. The katsu lunch special was a bit disappointing as there was a lot of rice but not much katsu. You can get a better value ordering a la carte in this case. Service was fairly okay - we got checked up just one time, and that's about it. Fairly bare minimum, and we didn't even get a water refill. read more
