Grilled mackerel lunch combo with spicy tuna roll
    Joy S.

For Saturday lunch, URBN sushi met our expectations above and beyond. There were not many people though parking was a bit crowded and the food and the service were amazing! Made our weekend so relaxing with the very best quality of sushi and excellent service. Thank u URBN sushi!

Love this place. The sushi chefs and owners are top notch. They brew their own soy sauce and the fish is always so fresh. Been coming here for 3 years... always spectacular. Thanks, JJ!

We ordered takeout, so didn't get a chance to experience service. But the food was ready relatively quick and the restaurant was spacious and clean. I really enjoyed the spicy yellowtail roll specifically, as well as my tonkatsu ramen! The broth and meat were so flavorful and a generous portion was provided.

    6 Pieces of Sashimi

The sashimi was incredibly fresh, and every dish we tried was very satisfying. The sushi had a wonderful balance between the rice and the fish, which made each bite enjoyable. The staff were attentive and professional, providing excellent service throughout the meal. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and I would definitely come back again.

This place wasn't bad overall, but there's definitely better sushi in the area. Tried the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna and I wasn't a big fan of it. I've had the dish before at other places, but here the tuna wasn't spicy enough and the rice was hard as a puck. Really disappointing for the price. My coworkers liked it more than I did. For my roll, I got the Red Hot Chili Pepper. It had some heat to it and the fish was fresh, but it was pretty boring flavorwise. There was nothing special about it if I'm being honest. No one in my group seemed very impressed by their rolls either.

Absolutely love this place! The owner JJ is so sweet, the food is amazing, love to sit at the bar and chat with the chefs. Went with Sashimi B tonight, plus the never-to-skipped jalapeno yellowtail appetizer. Miso soup is the best we've had at any Japanese restaurant!

Sushi was very good. I was craving veggie tempura and was disappointed to find out it's ONLY avocado slices in what they label as "vegetable tempura". It tasted okay, but if I had known I probably wouldn't have ordered, too much avocado

Since our very first visit this place has always been a vibe! The music can be hit or miss but when it's good then that's the cherry on top. Most of the time, the service is amazing. The food here is consistently amazing. We chose this place because they have so many rice-less sushi and vegetarian sushi options; I've enjoyed seeing the creative additions to the menu and a little change tends to make this place feel like a new experience since we frequent this spot a lot.

It's okay. The fish quality here ranges from very good to extremely horrible. We are purists and prefer nigiri. It was so bad. The blue fin tuna was cut poorly. It was thick, uneven, and sooo fatty. Required way too many bites. The uni - inedible. It tasted like salty moldy crap you find on the bottom of your shoe. The basics, like the crab and the salmon were fine, they were not great. My friend from norcal, (who clearly has not had any other san diego sushi) claims this is the best, i disagree, it was near the worst. Server was ok. Sort of slow and there were only other 2 other customers in the restaurant. The restaurant is pretty nice though. Well decorated. I've definitely had better at half the price. Not sure I'd recommend coming here.

    Chicken karaage
    Salman S.

Stopped by URBN sushi this afternoon after giving up on the long lines to enter UTC shopping mall. Was originally planning to eat at Viet Nom in the same plaza but with rainy weather and long lines at the door (did everyone in San Diego decide to come out to eat today?) I decided to try URBN Sushi a couple of doors down. When I entered only two tables had people eating there, that should have been a sign for me to leave but I figured I would give it a shot. With the chilly weather I opted for a shrimp udon soup with a side of chicken karaage. The restaurant provides a small cup of edamame on the house which is a nice touch. The soup and Karaage arrived at about the same time. The karaage batter was a bit disappointing. Not crunchy or flavorful, hard to describe but almost like the chicken had been fried in general purpose flour perhaps. The udon soup was a bit better though the two shrimp tempuras that came with it were fairly greasy. I didn't get a chance to try the sushi but I'll try and give the restaurant a second chance and try it the next time. Hope I won't regret it.

    Chicken Teriyaki Bowl
    Kathy B.

Place wasn't busy on a Wednesday night and we pretty much had our choice of any table. Service was prompt and attentive. Wasn't in the mood for sushi so tried the Chicken Yakisoba which was decent. The chicken was moist and the veggies crunchy but I'm not sure why they added purple cabbage as I think it gave the dish an odd taste which necessitated a generous pour of soy sauce to balance it out. The chicken teriyaki bowl was deemed tasty but could have used more teriyaki sauce to cover the rice. The CA roll was average.

Food is good and portions of entrees are generous. Chicken is probably pounded and prepared earlier making it somewhat dry.

The first time I went, I tried the steak rice bowl, which was incredibly delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the gochujang butter, grilled onion, and sauce all paired very well with the steak. The second time I visited, I had the salmon don, which came with a generous portion of various cuts of salmon. The salmon was extremely fresh, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The shochu highball was recommended to go with the salmon don and it was incredibly refreshing and delicious. The service here is also incredible with the staff being very friendly and attentive. I also recently found out that this location is under new ownership and the new owner and head chef, Simon, even personally stopped by to make sure that everything was tasting great. Simon mentioned that he's planning on introducing some new dishes to the menu soon, so I'm excited to see what else he comes up with! This place is definitely a must try if you haven't already!

I can't pass on an uni whenever they have it available! The roll was good. Tasty and the fish tasted fresh. I'm glad that I got a plate of sushi because one roll wasn't sufficient. The uni was a little disappointing. It wasnt that creamy and the color was kinda odd (dark, almost like it's burnt; I know it's not cooked at all, but it just looks that way). The wasabi that they give you is very tiny, it's like the size of a raisin. But the service is great! It's pretty easy to get their attention to ask for more after every 2 bites.

We came by on a Friday afternoon & didn't realize just how small their space is. Fortunately, the wait was only 20 minutes & we made it just in time to order before they closed the kitchen at 1:40 pm. For food, we got the potato croquette and katsu curry, both scrumptious!! The curry tastes very clean, not oily/greasy, similar to what I've had in Japan. I also wish there was a bit more katsu as it seemed kinda small compared to the rest of the plate. I'm still a bit partial to Coco Ichibanya as their curry has a bit more flavor/kick, but EE Nami is a close second! I definitely want to try the katsu sando next time :-) P.S. Some of my fellow Elites had some great things to say about Nozomi Sushi, so I was in! Tucked in the back corner of a little shopping mall in La Jolla sits Nozomi Sushi. The outside sitting looked like it could very well be inside seating. It's covered by a wooden structure with what looked like a nice tarp covering. Very clean and plenty of fresh air. Inside had some sitting as well but this order was for take out. The service was great! Young guy came out and was very friendly and more than willing to answer any questions I may have. I kind of knew what I wanted but he offered a menu and made sure I didn't need drinks because he saw I was thinking about drinks haha. Ordered the Alaska, Gentlemen, Super Crunch, Blue Fire Cracker Roll, Garlic Edamame and for fun we threw in a California Roll. EVERY SINGLE ROLL WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS AND DEVOURED!!!
