I have noticed that this post office doesn't get very good reviews, and I would like to be contrary and say I LOVE THIS POST OFFICE!-- but I would be paid back for such a lie on my next visit. The only good thing I can say is that there is often real life drama as people freak out from being in line so long. You start to feel like you're going insane, but you're all in it together. I've seen people strike up conversations while in line, starting with complaining, of course, and then go on to be lasting friends. Worse than the regular line (which I've waited in for an hour!) is the window where you go to pick up parcels. I've stood in line at that window while the (one) person working ignores the people in line altogether. On that occasion, a man I was in line with told me they regularly break open his packages and steal from him. I cannot believe this would happen at the post office. But then I had a box delivered to me that was broken open, with items missing, and JUNK MAIL shoved into it! I finally (after a lot of inquiry) found out where to write to complain and try to reclaim my missing items, but I have had no response back from the Post Office yet, now several months later. I used to love the Post Office, and using the mail, but I feel like the service is declining dramatically. At this branch they have put up a TV monitor so you can watch advertisements for postal services while you wait in line. Essentially what they are saying is that you can get good service if you pay extra for it, but otherwise don't expect much. They seem to have mounted an ongoing campaign to sell extra services, insurance, and faster, more reliable service for more money. But if you want to pay the minimum service costs like you always did, don't expect to actually get your mail delivered. And don't expect anyone to be nice to you-- except for maybe the people you're in line with. read more

Can you give negative stars? I am SO glad that I moved out of Williamsburg so I don't have to deal with this horrrid place anymore. I never got packages, they would never leave notices, they never pick up the phone, their website info is wrong, and my favorite? They don't forward mail. I went away for a month and never got my mail forwarded to where I was working -- until I got back. And then a month ago I moved from Brooklyn to Jersey. And guess who hasn't received any of her mail? Been calling everyday --- and no one ever answers the goddamn phone. I run a business out of my home. Every night i schedule pickups online and they only get picked up about 1/3 of the time. My customers are constantly getting late deliveries.. Basically this place is fucking up my business. I cant go there and drop them off myself because I work 9 to 5 in Manhattan. I call and complain at least once a week. On the rare occasion that someone actually speaks to me on the phone ( instead of just putting me on hold for 30+ minutes) . They promise that the packages will be picked up and the driver will be given a talking to.. yet the same shit happens over and over and over. I hate this post office. There is a reason why the postal system is such a mess, and this is a prime example. I love how you can sit there and watch all the employees through the glass acting with absolutely no urgency when there are at least 15 people in line (and two employees working). It's disgusting. I mean they might as well tell me "F**k you" at the end of each transaction. On more than a few instances I have witnessed heated discussions between frustrated customers and rude employees. I did read the previous reviews before going to the post office for the first time, but last week I had an entire afternoon off and a few things to mail, so I thought, I'm just going to go there because I want to mail it for as cheap as possible and I have all afternoon. Well, I wish I hadn't. The line was out the door to begin with (around 20 people waiting). Before jumping in line, I needed to fill out a few labels to stick on my packages, but there was no pen ANYWHERE. With 20 people waiting in line, I knew it wouldn't be easy to get someone's help, but a man finally came out from the back and I asked him for any kind of writing utencil, and he said "Sure! I'll be right back; let me grab one." 20 MINUTES PASSED, AND HE NEVER CAME BACK OUT. I kid you not. He could even see me waiting through the window. So, I waited literally 20 minutes, and that was enough for me. I'm a patient person, but I'm not that patient! Never again. read more

This post office is terrible. Plain and simple. If you live in this area and ever need a package delivered, I highly recommend you do everything in your power to have UPS or FedEx deliver. This post office has lost 3 packages of mine in less than 3 months. Every time the barcode is said to be scanned and every time--even when I checked 5 minutes after said scan--the package has never been delivered. Once when I went to post office to inquire directly about the situation I was told by an employee that there was "absolutely nothing I can do for you since it says in our system was delivered." I moved over 2 months ago to Long Island City, which is 10 mins from Williamsburg. I still have not received any mail at my new address. I have filed a complaint online, waited on hold with the national post office for an hour and a half, received a generic email from Williamsburg about "looking into my problem" and can not get anyone on the phone in Williamsburg to tell me if they are holding my mail and to explain why they are not putting those stupid yellow forwarding mail stickers on my mail!!!!!!!! Some of my mail is still going to the old address and my old roommate said she found the print out of my online complaint in the mailbox too! WTF PEOPLE!!!! YOU WORK FOR US! Had an issue with the Passport Office misaddressing my package. It was bounced from one post office to this one. I tracked it online and called them. The workers in this post office were extremely helpful. Yes, it was hard to get someone to answer the phone, but these days that's the case everywhere; you're either in automated operator hell or get no answer at all. My passport tracking adventure lasted 5 days (incl. weekend) but whenever I spoke to someone they gave me information that inched the passport closer to my hands. Here's a tip. Sign up for text message alerts when tracking Priority Mail. Despite the post office's efforts, determining that the package was on its way to the correct address, I received a text message saying the package was going to be returned to sender. Called this post office again. "Mrs. Hamilton" grabbed it from the truck! Saved my trip to the Caribbean. That's why I gave four stars. She did not have to do that. read more

I never noticed that during the past few days, our mail hasn't came. As much as I'm surprised to say this but this is the most disappointing experience we've had since today. I got a good reason to say that it is because it had to do with the lack of deliveries, and the increase of people taking a vacation. I highly find it unacceptable. Whenever I have to go to the S4th Post Office, I know I walking into certain misery, frustration, and anger. Well, this time? They lost my package. Oooooh... AGAIN. I went five times (count em, FIVE) with my delivery slip, and there's no sign or trace. This is the FOURTH TIME this has happened in the last three years. My advice? Way to close at 5:30, be the furthest possible distance from any and every subway stop that matters, and have horrible lines and slow-moving service. Last time I was here was over the winter, and it took me over 20 minutes to pick up my package when there were only 5 people in front of me. USPS is absolutely awful, and this place is even worse. It seems every time I have something delivered, even if it can fit in my mailbox, they force me to come pick it up and then I'm at this gem of an establishment hating my life and whatever decisions I made which got me there. Clearly, other Yelpers have had far worse experiences with this post office. Mine was merely a brush with the inexplicably inane behavior of its employees. The website clearly states that this location is open until 7pm on weeknights. However, when I arrived, with a large package, on a cold and windy night, without gloves, after walking along fairly unlit, empty streets beside a roaring highway, I arrived to find the employees smoking outside at 6:08 pm. All the lights were on. "We've been closed since 5:30," they said. "That was our schedule last year." I didn't ask what they were doing hanging out, at work, in their work uniforms, for forty minutes after closing. I just asked where to find another place to mail a package. They directed me to take the 44 bus to DUMBO or go to Manhattan, nevermind that my smartphone told me it's a five minute walk to several alternatives -- including the Tigerlily on Lorimer Street, where they are actually open until 7pm. read more

UPDATE: I moved to Vermont and was sooo psyched to be DONE with the 11211 Post Office. Well, the joke's on me! Even after I received confirmation that they had processed my forwarding request I am still receiving mail at my old place. Rude unhelpful and couldn't care less. Trying to ship from here is like descending into Dante's inferno. They know your complaints won't go anywhere and they are not afraid to show their disinterest. They will not come and collect the mail even though you booked and you have 40 parcels ( minimum is two) They hang up the phone when you call to find out why. The lines are huge and the drop off box is always full so you have to line up for ages even though you have paid for the labels online and all you have to do is drop stuff off. I'm going to give this place two stars because I found the staff to be very nice and helpful. What else can be said that hasn't already been said about this place? I wouldn't go there unless I had all my stuff together - for instance, picking up a package without a slip or not knowing one hundred percent for sure it will be there is asking for trouble. One time I waited in the pick up line (though no notice was left) for almost 20 minutes, only to be told to get in the other line (which was out the door it was so long), because Ms Lazy needed a break. WTF? Are you joking??!! Wouldn't it be easier to just deliver the packages? I caught them red handed once leaving a notice for me, when I said 'that's me, I'll take my package" the guy DIDN'T EVEN HAVE MY PACKAGE ON HIS TRUCK!!! So he's driving around leaving (or usually not leaving) notices for things he hasn't even taken out of the facility!! I called to complain about that and never heard back. I've called for various reasons over the years and it's always been the same thing, the phone just rings and rings. These guys are thieves..., The essentially mark your package as delivered and you never get it ....., when you go there they say that they delivered it. Also, they bulk scan packages as "delivered" when they arrive at the post office. after that they start opening the packages up and pick what they want. I just joined yelp to COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS POST OFFICE!!!!!! I cannot tell you how mad I am about this place. I could tell you many stories but lets just talk about this holiday season. Last month I ordered a gift from Etsy. It was taking a long time to come to me, so I tracked it. The tracking said I received a card stating they tried to deliver and i wasnt home. Than the next status said it was "delivered". Well it never was so I made a claim. I later received a call saying the post man "made a mistake" and they would redeliver. They did, and i finally got my gift just in time for xmas. This month I am waiting for two packages. I just received a call from a friend who said she checked her tracking number and it says it was delivered on january 7....well its the 12th and i have no freaking package. I am also waiting on my sister-in-laws christmas gift from PA. I have just sent two more email complaints. Someone needs to close this goddamn post office down. Sorry I dont care if every one there loses their job. You cant do your job correctly than you shouldnt have a job. No wonder the post office and snail mail is dying....because y'all suck. Every time I have to deal with this place it makes my stomach churn with pain knowing that such an inefficient branch of our failing government exists. And I don't have high hopes. I am a realist. I have empathy for the poor souls trapped inside. Not so much for the mail carriers in the 11211 and 11249 zip codes: for three years I had my mailman dump all of the tenants (in a three unit building) mail on the floor inside of the entryway. STOLEN MAIL. UNSAFE. We are telling people, businesses, etc. NOT to mail us anything using USPS. It's become unsafe as we've had multiple credit cards, pay checks etc get stolen- even after repeated mailing attempts. Funny, ****nothing else gets stolen. I used informed delivery and the items are there in the morning email and poof, i get home- every other item arrives but the credit card, bank or pay check envelopes. This has happened with increasing regularity to the point that I can not get any type of financial mail delivered, full stop. (I've had to cancel payments as a result and last week had someone fraudulently steal and open a credit card to me after being stolen via USPS). Use FEDEX or UPS until they take this seriously. I've reported this in multiple places to USPS but they don't seem concerned and no action has been taken. read more

It took 45 minutes to get to the front of the package pickup line (6 people ahead of me) and the other 15 (so far!) waiting for the one person working to find my package. Which arrived in Brooklyn yesterday. Why? Why? Whyyyyyyyy? There are currently 28 people waiting in this room, and 3 employees. (I think - they're never at the window at the same time so I can't be sure.) I tried to share my pain with the U.S. Postal Service, but their online customer service makes it impossible to write in with complaints. I'm not ready to call the phone number yet because I think that would make the wait even more unpleasant for my 27 fellow waiters. Everyone hates this post office, and it's clearly a staffing issue.
