You don't even have to visit this place to know it's awful. I have two overnight packages that are now 2 hrs past the guarantee and, when I called, every extension led to a voicemail message that said, "Your party is not available. Please leave a message after the beep...I'm sorry, you cannot leave a message because this mailbox is full." That's hard evidence of a failing enterprise. It's been "out for delivery" for a couple weeks now, which means they have no idea who is in possession of it. It sucks when a letter from grandma doesn't show up. Seems like no one knows what's going on and how's they own service is working. I live in the same place for almost 3 years, I never had my packages actually delivered. Most of the times it's just a notice "sorry we missed you". Sometimes not even that. Few times my packages got send back to the seller because i simply had no idea they came. Post office kept saying they don't have any. Today I went there to pick up my package, and of course they don't have it. Regardless of website saying it's there. They couldn't give me a straight answer where is it. Calling customer service didn't help at all, I don't know why hey have it, it's absolutely useless. Screw this place. Not only that. Screw the entire United States Postal Service. Seriously. Over the past few months I have ordered things online, sent things to people, etc. On many(!) occasions, the package/parcel/whatever has NEVER SHOWED UP AT THE SPECIFIED DESTINATION. Literally. Just never got there. No one I talk to at USPS, the destination, or any other entity that may have handled the parcel knows what happened to it. And this has happened multiple times. This particular post office embodies everything, literally everything, that is wrong with any sort of government sponsored beaurocracy. Most recently (and the impetus for this rant) I had bought a few art prints online and selected the cheaper shipping method (they claimed it'd be shipped FedEx...to my door). Instead FedEx just delivered it to this post office, which in turn has yet to deliver it to my door. I've tried 'redelivery' online. Nothing I've tried calling this actual PO, nothing. I've tried calling USPS, nothing. Unless I take off of work there will never be a time when I am in Williamsburg and this post office is open. Not to mention they never even 'attempted' delivery anyways, nor notified me as to where my package would be. The only reason I know it was in Brooklyn but was never delivered was from tracking information online. According to that, it's been sitting at 263 S 4th Street for almost 10 days. USPS - Stopping Saturday delivery is hopefully the first step towards complete disbandment of the entire Postal Service. You have proved completely useless to society. Please step aside so private firms can compete with one another to deliver parcels for everyday Americans. Unfortunately, I have to give this post office one star! This is the absolute worst place ever! I sent a package to my office, no one was there to receive it, fine. I call the post office, give them the tracking number, and the very rude phone lady finally decides to help me, unwillingly, and says my package is there. I go one hour later to pick it up and they say they "DO NOT" have the package!!! This was so infuriating! So, I gave them my number and they said someone would call me, that was Friday morning and it is now Monday, late afternoon, and I still have not received a phone call. I have been trying to call all day and all I get is a busy signal. Someone did answer once and left me on hold for 15 minutes so I decided to hang up. I scheduled my appointment weeks ago and had to take off of work only to show up and there be one person working. I'm thinking okay now I have to wait long. I get in line wait almost 30 minutes only to be told that the lady that does the appointments is not in. Um, WHAT?!! I used to at least get my package slips. There was that time that the mailman didn't deliver my mail for six months because he decided I had moved away, but until now other than that I could handle whatever this post office's deal is. My packages only got returned to their senders for no reason once in awhile. And while whenever I am at this post office there is always a long line and more than one customer upset because they can't get a package, I've been pretty lucky. Patience and politeness always helped smooth things over. When I stopped getting slips for my packages I just started stopping by around the time that I figured they should be there and inquire about them and the postal workers on duty would usually be kind enough to go and get them from the back. This post office is a joke. Most of the clerks are really sweet and helpful, but it does not even come close to meeting the needs of the neighborhood. I often get letters addressed to downtown Brooklyn, write in big letters "Incorrect address, NOT EVEN THIS ZIP CODE" and return them only to have them wind up in my mail box again a few weeks later with my notes clearly visible. Do the mail carriers even look at what is going into the box??? The have also lost one of my packages and a ton of my mail. I used to live in Bushwick and that post office is WAY better. If at all possible go to the CPU at 442 Lorimer St. It will save you a headache and there is usually no one in there. Just be careful because they have tried to overcharge me on more than one occasion. read more

This is the worst post office I've had the displeasure of dealing with, even by Brooklyn's already low standards. My mail, on days that it is delivered at all, is routinely either put in my neighbors' mailboxes or simply thrown on the floor. For the last week, we haven't received any mail at all, just a note addressed to the building telling us "Key not in keykeeper. Please replace. Mail @ station". During a trip down to this post office, the one employee present (don't go after 5, even though it's technically open until 7) has no idea how to find our mail which might be kept somewhere within the station, and offers nothing in the way of suggestions or help. From what we've been able to piece together at this point from multiple phone calls and by ignoring statements that are obvious placating fabrications, it appears that our "regular" mail person decided to walk off the job with a key to our building, which makes me feel wonderfully safe. Anyway, it's not as if there's much you can do about your home delivery if (like me) you happen to live in 11211, but if you need to use any postal services, just find a branch in Manhattan and stay far away from this place. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. Needed to ship something and write an address and there was not a single working pen. When I asked for a pen they directed me to the pens on the window that I previously told them did not work. I could see they had an extra pen through the glass and when I asked if I could use it they said no. How am I supposed to mail things at the post office without a pen? Thankfully someone in line had a pen and offered it to everyone else. So basically the person in line was more helpful than a single person working here lol. They NEVER pick up the phone... like, never EVER. We're still working on tracking down a package that's been lost for over two weeks. Based on the previous reviews, taking a day off to make it into the office personally will only subject us to incredible rudenesss... So, I've been sticking to working with USPS central customer service. They've been very nice and helpful so far - they're aware that no one at this branch answers the phone and have let me skip the step of talking to the branch manager. They show that our package has just been "sitting around" there (despite our forwarding address being on file) and have put in a redelivery request. Hopefully it shows up tomorrow and we can avoid starting an official investigation. It happened yet again. A message from Amazon stating that the book I ordered has been returned to sender as undeliverable. I got the tracking number from them and ran it through the system, and the note says: Attempted to deliver, rang buzzer, left missed package notice. I was home at that time and nobody rang the buzzer. Also there was no missed package notice. Sound familiar? Welcome back to the horror that is the Williamsburg post office! I called the USPS general number and filed the usual complaint to the helpful, apologetic individual on the other end. I would be contacted within 48 hours, she said. About a week later I remembered the case, called the general number, and was told the case had been closed by the supervisor at the Williamsburg post office. The note read: "Spoke to client. All resolved." This is, of course, a straight up lie so they re-opened the case. About a week later I once again remembered that I had a case open, gave them a ring, and again the supervisor at the Williamsburg post office had closed the case, this time without an explanation. So now they have kicked it up to "Consumer Affairs" who will be in contact within 48 hours, they say. Could this finally be the complaint that does it? Will someone actually call? Updating this review to confirm it's still F*ing Awful! Their newest tactic, all through the holidays, has been to claim items as delivered that have not been delivered. Then, when you spend hours on the phone to try to resolve, the main USPS rep takes your complaint, and forwards the info to this #fart branch, that (I think we're all well aware) is brimming with the severely incompetent/disinterested. If you ever speak to one of these brain dead idiots, they'll let you know the packages were confirmed as delivered in their 'system', which you already know because you've had a computer since 1993 and are versed in looking up a tracking number. YEAH I GET IT. I GET THAT'S WHAT YOUR SYSTEM SAYS. EXCEPT IT HASNT BEEN DELIVERED BECAUSE I DONT HAVE IT. "But the system SAYS the sky is yellow..." You know they haven't answered a phone in 15 years because you've read ANY of these other reviews. I have followed through in every way I know how. First of all, I ship FedEx or UPS when ever possible, but UPS does this thing where they give your package to USPS to deliver because they hate you. There is a note on my building to buzz or leave with the super. There is a note on my mailbox to buzz or leave with the super. There is a note on my mailbox asking for them to not leave packages unattended in the vestibule but please buzz us or leave with the super. If they leave me a slip for an Attempted Delivery (#lies) and I go online and Schedule a Redelivery and get a confirmation number, they return the package to the sender stating the package is unclaimed. What can you do? No, really, what? There is no one to hold accountable. No way to reach anyone. I would calmly address the issue if I believed there was a solution. But if they can declare items delivered whether or not it's true, the consumer has no recourse. In the last 2.5 months, five packages claimed as 'delivered', a 'signature on request' letter claimed as 'delivered', one rescheduled delivery returned to sender. Last week, a small parcel sized for my mailbox, claimed as 'delivered'. ZERO buzzed attempts. I seldom feel the need to write negative reviews about fellow federal workers. But in this case they so deserve it. Granted I haven't set foot in a post office in quite some time. I stopped into this place to ship a box to California. There was an area where the empty priority and express boxes are to be stored. They were out of most. Why didn't the attendants come out of the comfortable office and refill the stock? That's like a simple administrative job. Do we need to remind you that the boxes are necessary in order to package the merchandise we are hoping to use to give your post office business. Needless to say the line was huge and boxes were not avail. You had to stand on line and ask for a box. All of which were at clear reach of the tellers. Then to make matters worse the post office had tape scattered throughout. Why you ask? Because God forbid the tellers tape the boxes which they are holding hostage behind the glass. So not only do you waste my time in trying to get a box. But then you refuse to tape my box?! Serious! Where are the days when the tellers actually worked? I see why so many post offices are closing. Worst post office of all time. Service is so slow, and only a few windows are open at a time, even when there are 30 people waiting. They lose my packages nearly every single time, and have no record of them even when they leave slips for a missed delivery. I just don't understand why UPS and other shipping services sometimes give packages to the local post office for delivery. I know that if my package enters this post office, there's a 50/50 chance I (a) will never receive it, or (b) will not receive it until a month after it was marked as delivered to my house. A few months ago, I requested expedited service on my passport because I needed it in time for a friend's wedding in Canada. My tracking number provided by the passport department showed that the passport was being delivered via USPS and it was marked as DELIVERED, yet for an agonizing 2 weeks, it was lost in limbo. The post office had no record of it ever entering their facility. Then one day when I was on my way out the door to work, a man dressed like a postman driving an Enterprise truck showed up with a very beaten up package which turned out to be my passport. Why did I pay 60 bucks to expedite my passport when it arrived just days before I had to leave for Canada? HORRIBLE. Incompetent government employees at their worst. Lazy, rude, and they couldn't care less about their job, customers, etc. Lines out the door with two people assisting customers and three other people just wandering around chatting. Sometimes my mail comes at 2 p.m., sometimes it comes at 7 p.m. (I'm not exaggerating. They are out delivering mail at 7 p.m.), sometimes I don't get my mail at all. I'm talking Priority Mail packages that don't show up. Scheduled pick-ups are a complete joke. What's the point of offering the service at all? Dealing with them right now after they marked a package undeliverable (HOW?? The address on the package was correct!!) on June 14. They said they were returning it to sender and the sender never received the package back. It is now July 1. How can it take over 2.5 weeks for a small package to go from New York City to Buffalo? Basically they stole the package (makeup I ordered). I cannot put anything past these incompetent, shady people. They will keep giving me the run around and try to cover their tracks because they know, plain and simple, one of their workers stole it. Oh, and they never answer the phone. This Post Office is the WORST IN THE COUNTRY! I also suspect that there is widespread theft of packages. Every time I am in this hellhole, someone is yelling about a missing package. And every time, that I receive packages of online purchases from Kohls, they go missing! (Why Kohls is stupid enough to still be using the Postal Service instead of UPS or FedEx is anybody's guess!) I don't allow anyone else to send me anything but mail postally anymore. Today more than a hundred dollars worth of Kohls' clothes has "gone missing" with the workers simply laughing and shrugging their shoulders. The slips they leave mean nothing because when you get there if they want to keep your item, they just claim they can't find it. The delivery people are often spotted leaving their carts unattended on the sidewalks with tons of packages while they go into local restaurants. Towards the end of the night in the back of the post office, they also leave packages out in a big bin RIGHT BY THE DOOR, where anyone could take them and go. I also once went to pick up a package that, of course, was never found and watched as the postal worker gave the person in front of me SOMEONE ELSE's big department store box! Fortunately, that person was honest and said that it wasn't his. But what if he had not been? This probably also accounts for a lot of the packages that go missing. Here's a fun thing that still hasn't changed about this Post Office from 2009: They still leave your packages in the lobby. I spent A MONTH on the phone with the 1800 number, with the actual post office, with the company that shipped the package. You see, I was home, and my package was marked delivered, but no package to be found. So, after filing a complaint, and receiving a phone call that "my normal mail carrier was off that day, we'll ask what happened tomorrow," I waited. Another week. Called the 1800 number again, and found out my complaint was marked RESOLVED. NOT RESOLVED. I file another complaint, to which the PO calls and responds: "Sorry your package isn't here, good luck" and have a replacement package sent out. I make sure to post a note in my lobby: "Hey, please leave me a slip and I'll come get it. Things get stolen if you leave them out." Made sure me or my boyfriend would be home on the day of delivery, which we were. THEY LEFT IT IN MY LOBBY LAST NIGHT. By sheer luck and the ONE other person in the building we know, I got it. It's got to actually be illegal to be doing what this mail carrier is doing, It's abandonment and basically destruction of mail. Will anything ever change? Probably not. This Post Office looks exactly like they treat their customers. Like a fresh pile of steaming shit. The post office itself looks like it has not been cleaned or remodeled since the late 70's. I wouldn't care so much if they were not all assholes there. Over the years of coming here, the attitude of the employees is always the same, they act as if you have insulted them to ask them to do their job. I make it a point to pay extra for UPS and FedEx to avoid the sheer hassle of multiple trips and poor service to this butthole of a post office. For a while we did not get a single Netflix delivered for a long time, unless it was a documentary or foreign, and they were always torn open. We complained. They made us send a written letter to the post master, and it suddenly stopped. Of course I get similar service at the Rockefeller Center location near my work. I have noticed that this post office doesn't get very good reviews, and I would like to be contrary and say I LOVE THIS POST OFFICE!-- but I would be paid back for such a lie on my next visit. The only good thing I can say is that there is often real life drama as people freak out from being in line so long. You start to feel like you're going insane, but you're all in it together. I've seen people strike up conversations while in line, starting with complaining, of course, and then go on to be lasting friends. Worse than the regular line (which I've waited in for an hour!) is the window where you go to pick up parcels. I've stood in line at that window while the (one) person working ignores the people in line altogether. On that occasion, a man I was in line with told me they regularly break open his packages and steal from him. I cannot believe this would happen at the post office. But then I had a box delivered to me that was broken open, with items missing, and JUNK MAIL shoved into it! I finally (after a lot of inquiry) found out where to write to complain and try to reclaim my missing items, but I have had no response back from the Post Office yet, now several months later. I used to love the Post Office, and using the mail, but I feel like the service is declining dramatically. At this branch they have put up a TV monitor so you can watch advertisements for postal services while you wait in line. Essentially what they are saying is that you can get good service if you pay extra for it, but otherwise don't expect much. They seem to have mounted an ongoing campaign to sell extra services, insurance, and faster, more reliable service for more money. But if you want to pay the minimum service costs like you always did, don't expect to actually get your mail delivered.
