I've lived in this neighborhood for over 12 years--the mail has never been great, but in the past six months it has gotten downright terrible. I CAN'T STAND THIS PLACE!! Out of the entire bunch that works here there may be 1 or even 2 that have an actual brain and know how to deliver the mail correctly. I've had someone claim to deliver a package to me and sign for it; I never received it. Packages have been left on the ground in front of my mailbox, letters on top of the mailbox, wrong mail received in my mailbox, notice left on the door in the pouring rain and the name fades because of it. This place is one of the worst post offices I have been to, the staff is very rude and lazy. My packages never get delivered and when I track them on line it states delivered or in transit which is bull. I constantly deal with the same issue every time I am suppose to receive a package. There is obviously someone at this facility stealing packages because it is impossible that my packages are always lost. There has to be a higher authority that can put this place in order and if he or she doesn't they are just as lazy as the staff there. This place is a complete and total disaster. Mail delivery out of this office is completely unreliable. Important packages and letters languish for days in transit, only to disappear into this black hole and never be seen again. Tracking information is blatantly falsified. Informed Delivery service reveals many, many letters that should have been delivered but never arrived. Neighbors are constantly having to bring each other items that were delivered to the wrong mailbox despite being clearly marked. Often, the mail carrier will simply throw everything on the floor in the lobby. There is usually a line around the block of people desperately trying to locate their packages. No one in their right mind would ever trust anything of importance to these people. There is usually only one window open to serve the entire zip code, causing huge delays. When ordering online, I now check to make sure that my item will NEVER pass through the hands of this post office, or it is as good as lost. Falsified tracking information prevents you from getting a refund from the retailer. read more

Like another poster said, if I could give this post office negative stars, I would give it a -2 stars. Today was the first, and hopefully last time, I had to go into the post office to pick up a package. I did receive my package but it had been opened by someone. I have never received a package that had been opened. Someone else said on here that they thought employees were stealing stuff. I agree with that person. They probably tried to see what it was, thought it wasn't cool enough (because it wasn't) and then just taped it up. Of course this is all conjecture but it is fishy that my package wasn't sealed. When I arrived the line wasn't terribly long so I was fortunately in there for about 30 minutes. But soon after I arrived the line for package pick-up got really long. Everyone was complaining. There was a guy who had been standing there waiting for his package for over an hour. I also saw a lady in another line who had been waiting there ever since I got there, and she was still waiting when I left! She gave an employee her ID and they just took off and left her hanging. The customer service at this place is bad. Unfortunately, in this part of Brooklyn we don't have many choices for delivery options. FedEx and UPS are not any better. Those delivery guys are LAZY. They don't knock nor leave notices at our door. I don't know what to do about this delivery situation. I wish there was somewhere we can complain. This USPS facility should be closed and every worker made to retiree! These people basically appear as if all their oxygen has been cut off or they are smoking something in the back. It's like watching a zombie movie. I pay for a postal box every six months. Next payment is due on my birthday, and payment was current. Please tell me why my box was locked and important mail returned!! No notice was given at all. If it wasn't for the fact I was off that day that I found out who knows how long this would be going on. In response to their error and unprofessional behavior an important check was sent back and the account closed because of incorrect information. No answers were given as to why this mistake took place. The supervisor who I spoke with appeared to be sleeping on her feet. Had no answers. I don't know how long this was going on because up until a week ago I had been receiving mail. I am being penalized for someone who made a mistake and clearly doesn't know what they are doing, I will be filing a complaint ASAP. I found out additional information to add to my complaint. If you can go to another post office RUN there. Have your mail sent elsewhere. Don't trust these incompetent individuals with your precious mail. Now that the holidays are here if you are expecting packages you won't get them until Easter!!! I only gave one star because a poison and deadly sign wasn't available. read more

I just needed to buy stamps. But there's no stamp machine here, so I had to wait in line. As others have pointed out, there is no clear signage telling one which line to stand in. I happened to guess correctly. Fortunately, the line was short. Unfortunately, the young clerk stopped in the middle of counting out my stamps to chat with their co-worker. Then, without a word, they disappeared Stage Left. And I waited. And waited. And finally, I just left without my stamps. Whoops! No, I merely attempted to leave. But the door was locked. Several of us gathered, waiting to be let out. A woman said in a surly voice, "I'll get to it in a minute." We waited. And finally, she let us out. And now I am proud to be one of the many leaving a 1-star review for this infuriating waste of taxpayer money and time. read more

Seems to be understaffed inside leading to 40-60 min wait times on a daily basis (but this describes most USPS stations in Brooklyn unfortunately). They'll tell you they're holding mail, but don't, they'll give you a bad attitude just to keep the lines moving, and they just don't care about your mail unless you make it a problem for them too. I had an experience with them to pick up checks and an important package for work that took about 12 hours of my own time to resolve and only after I basically yelled at the manager and filed complaints online. This branch needs to be shut down. Seriously. They WILL NOT deliver packages. It took me awhile to figure out why I continued to miss deliveries when I would stay home all day and wait. Finally I encountered the mail person in the flesh writing the "we missed you" slip and when asked for my package it was confirmed that he didn't have it and I had to pick it up. Someone can explain to me why these people continue to be paid for a service they refuse to provide. They have destroyed multiple parcels and I have actually had 2 insurance claims in at once. Their listed hours are incorrect and most days I think they leave the phone off the hook. I can only assume since I tried once phoning every 15 minutes for 4 hours straight and never got through. I sent a care package to a missionary friend in Madagascar a year ago this past March. It never arrived! When we tracked it, it shows reaching New York and then stopped. It cost me almost $250 to send the package and every time I checked with the Post and Ship office they informed me they still could not find it. This Debevoise St. Post Office is a disgrace to the community. Everyone who uses it should walk with a chair because waiting time is about 2 hours or more. Service is terrible and half the time they can't find your package. Old people should NEVER use it because standing on that line is a bitch. I would rather take the train and go to Manhattan but unfortunately when Fedex claim they can't get you, they leave your package at that lousy Post Office. What a shame. Normally, I'm not one to leave Yelp reviews, but this Post Office really takes the cake. I've had a packaged that was last scanned as "Out for Delivery" since 1/10/18, and nobody at the post office or on the trucks can tell me where it is. I understand there has been a backlog with the recent winter storm, but that doesn't excuse the fact that my mail has essentially gone missing. Package tracking says they delivered 30lb package but it never arrived. Called them and they said they couldn't fit it in the "receptacle." Duh, 30 lbs packages don't fit in apartment mailboxes. Like every disgruntled person that have already written, I too have had my packages held hostage or stolen. One never knows. The majority of times, there aren't any pink slips available and when there are ones left, that's usually while you're at home waiting for your delivery. Going to the post office is a travesty, the wait is unbearable. I've learned to bring my canvas caned chair and wait while on line. Bring a book, Kindle or Nook, whatever you need to do to not lose your cool, do it. If you have headsets on, remove from one ear, just in case your name is called. This is by far the 2nd worst post office i been too. The one in brownsville on bristol st is the worst. Anyway back to this post office at bushwick. There's usually 3 lines here. The first line I'm going to example to you is the money order and personalized stamps which is usually the fastest and shortest line there , the second line is for mailing out stuff that line is off and on depending on the day and the third and last line is the worst of them all it's for picking up your packages it's the longest and slowest line you will wait on this line for 45 until an hour or more on most days the line goes all the way to the back of the post office it's absolutely terrible. You would've swore there were a bunch of snails and turtles working in the back try to find your package. I despise coming here. My advice to you is if you order something online and received the pink slip from the post office. Do yourself a favor wait for it to go back to the carrier you order from and ask for a refund because it's just not worth it especially if you don't have the time or the patience. This post office is so bad - I'm taking them to small claims court! I had a package mailed to me on 4/1/2013 and they scanned it as out for delivery. Then later that same afternoon they scanned it as Undeliverable as addressed. I get packages from this person ALL the time so that is impossible. I called the 1800 number who took the information and had someone from the local post office call me back. The person returning my call stated the package was probably damaged or something and is returned to sender. Imagine my surprise when I checked the tracking on April 20 and it was scanned as UNCLAIMED by the local post office and sent back. The package was received back on April 29th and of course there was nothing wrong with the package or my address. It cost $17 to mail it to me and it sat at my Brooklyn post office for 19 days without any notification to me at all, just a lie that it had already been returned. I called the 1-800 post office customer service number and was told someone from the local post office would contact me within 24 hours. No phone call was received. I called back to following week and was told by the associate at the 1-800 number that my case had been closed out by someone at the local post office and noted customer calling consumer affairs meanwhile they had never even bothered to call me back and at the time I didn't even know consumer affairs existed. I was then provided the number to consumer affairs by the associate at the 1800 number. I called last week and again today each time getting a voicemail that promises to call me back. Still nothing. On May 15th they resent me the package above that had been returned, paying $17 once again. It arrived at the post office on Friday, May 17th and was scanned as out for delivery. Later that afternoon it was once again scanned as "notice left" but of course they left nothing once again. I went to the post office on Saturday, May 18th ($10 cab ride there and $10 cab ride back) and was told it was on the truck for delivery and I should come back on Monday. I went back to the post office on Monday(still no notice left for me) and once again ($10 cab ride there and $10 cab ride back) and was told it wasn't there and was on the truck for delivery again. I tried to explain the situation and the lady was so rude and just talked over me. I asked to speak to the supervisor and was informed it would be awhile that her supervisor was finishing her PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!! I just checked the tracking number and they package was scanned yesterday as Insufficient Address and returned to sender AGAIN. Tomorrow I will be filing my case in court. read more

I've been to this post office three times, as it seems the USPS trucks don't even want to ring my doorbell but instead leave a slip at my apartment, and I've stayed at home specifically to wait for packages. My first two times were decent trips, though I could see why others were getting frustrated, but my third visit really put me over the edge. My husband and I waited on the package pick-up line for 45 minutes, and when we finally got up to the window we gave the woman 3 tracking numbers and one pink slip (that had another tracking number on it), so 4 packages total. An employee not so much asked us to go to the back door--because our packages were heavy--but practically yelled at us, already impatient, but with no reason why. We were trying to be as accommodating as possible and did not give her any reason to give us attitude...but we got it anyway. When we were met at the back door, she only had three of the packages, not four. I asked if we could get the 4th package that we had waited in line for and she started yelling, saying that we would HAVE TO GET BACK IN LINE to pick up the other package. Why? Why did I have to wait in line again when I had already given her all of the necessary information? Furthermore, she yelled at us and I could barely understand what she was saying, as she was turning away from us as she said it. She literally didn't even give me a chance to ask if I could simply wait at the front again, or explain a possible misunderstanding. TERRIBLE and FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE. read more

This place deserves no stars at all!!! I don't even know why it exists, they don't do their job. I lost count how many times I was home and no one knocked on the door or anything but somehow someone left a freaking missed delivery slip. Once a missed delivery slip mysteriously appeared in my mailbox on a Sunday. If you go to the post office in person, there is always an insane line, you will spend at least one hour standing there, and after that they put you into another line on a side where you'll stand for another twenty minutes! Many of the mail people in my neighborhood are awesome, just great. They do a good job and can go above and beyond to get you a package. 5 stars! The actual Debevoise post office, though, is another story. Sometimes ok, sometimes an absolute clown show. Now, I'm suspecting they are sinking to a new low, leading me to wonder - are they simply gaslighting or are some/is one of the workers there stealing packages? There were four cases today when I was there that were super sketchy, including them losing my slip somehow and trying to deny it AFTER I gave it to them at the window, along with my ID (luckily they didn't lose the ID), and then swearing up and down that not only was it not their fault they lost the slip, there was no package there for me...and basically stealing an elderly woman's package, saying it was too big to fit in their delivery window, so the driver would not have left it at the post office (?) so even though the driver had left her a slip she was not getting her package. The other two cases were similar. The worst part is that the woman stealing our stuff was such a nasty, gaslighting monster as she was doing it. The trickledown effect of our current government is making psychopaths everywhere more brazen and corrupt. I'm suspecting that these miraculously disappearing items are a good side racket for the evil psychopath doing the packages, and she and her friends and family have got a house full of stolen loot. read more

This is by far the worst post office in Brooklyn!!!! I have received several alerts saying a slip was left because no one was home. My mom, grandmother and uncle are all retired and do not go anywhere. It is IMPOSSIBLE that no one is home. I have gone to pick up packages from them (after an invisible slip was left) and they claimed those same packages were en route to me ONLY for them not to be delivered once again!! I have filed complaints only to get phone calls stating they will speak to the person on my route and nothing changes!!! read more
