Zero star. Closed during business hours. Took 20 mins to serve one customer and let other nine waiting in line for hours

Zero stars. I waited 45 minutes in line, while there was only one clerk working. She was helping one customer put stickers on a huge stack of letters for over THIRTY minutes. This customer could have stepped to the side and done this while she continued to help others. When a customer in front of her politely asked when the other clerk would be back, mentioning he was just curious and didn't mind waiting, she said rudely, "you know there's other offices in this city you can go to instead". When it was my turn, she refused to let me buy insurance for my package that needed to be insured, and would not explain to me why I couldn't. She was rude and unprofessional to me and several others I witnessed in this 45 minutes. I'd rather go to the DMV than this post office. Train your employees on professionalism. read more

The best part of this location is seeing the beach. The wait is always long and their Saturday hours are so limited. The 1 lady helping at the counter is nice. They have started refusing packages being delivered from some carriers like UPS, DHL, etc. When I asked why, they said that it's because postage has not been paid to USPS to have the package delivered to my PO Box. Meaning, they won't deliver it from the dock to the PO Boxes (literally 20 steps away). read more

AVOID!!!! RUDE EMPLOYEES AND SEVERELY UNDERSTAFFED. DO NOT EVER COME HERE. Mail, packages are stolen and thrown out at this location by the employee who is rude. You can figure out WHO it is as only 2 employees work here. Hint- it's not the 80-year-old lady who is slow! Old Lady- tell people to move over to fill out stuff, while you help the next person in line!!! Old lady lacks common sense, and lacks customer service skills. Funny how it costs TWICE as much to mail a package from this location than any other post office!! Funny how there are no self-service kiosks like the Encinitas or Mira Mesa post office have in their lobbies....it's obvious why------because if you have a package that costs $6 to mail at Encinitas or Mira Mesa self- service kiosks with the scale or their counters, it's strangely $12 here at the counter. Went on Saturday maybe 10 am 3 people maybe in line only one older lady helping customers very nice lady and helpful the only problem old system takes time people are confused trying to understand takes time parking is only 20 minutes and when I pulled up the lady meter maid was leaning again the hydrant when I came out she was already writing me a ticket I told her I just got done in the post office she told me okay i could leave but is only 20 minutes not sure if I will get a ticket we shall see thank you all read more

Ok post office. Too small, bad location (not because of the beautiful sea and sunsets) but because of the parking situation. Parking is super limited and if you are able to find it will only last 20 minutes. I passed by and parked in front a million times but only went inside yesterday. It was kind of slow and only went there because I needed to ship with some urgency and this was the closest one. read more

Lovely ladies working here. I don't knw her name but I think she is the manager..has been kind and helpful. They all are! Occasionally the line is slow but it is usually because the customer isn't prepared. And did I mention the beautiful location! Thank you ladies! read more

Today I came in the afternoon during normal hours with no rush going on. I came up to the counter to mail in my letter. The lady at the counter told me that it's done wrong and on the opposite sides. I told her, "I asked the lady on the left if it's correct when I asked how to write the addresses from and to." The lady at the counter told me "we work here!" She made it seem like it was my fault when it wasn't but I ended up apologizing and telling her that I probably misheard her. People aren't perfect but no need to be so rude and make customers feel bad. read more

Friendly staff beautiful location however no packages over 13 oz allowed in their large outgoing drop box. Millions of us customers are using pre-printed labels prepared and paid for at home yet few post office locations including this one can actually accommodate without having to wait in line anyways. No pre scanner, no scales. FedEx with my discount is often less expensive and with numerous easy drop locations definitely more convenient. read more

I am so use to the North Park post office that is: A. Crowded B. Not great for parking C. Filled with random acts of humanity that I was completely surprised by how easy it was to get in and out of the Del Mar post office. I guess it helps that it is A. In Del Mar and B. Half a block from the ocean and a gorgeous view. I have started selling old school books on Amazon and this last week I stopped into the Del Mar post office twice on my way to work at the Fairgrounds. The gal at the counter was pleasant and even saved me some money over what I thought I had to order for shipping my book. The second time I went in was on Friday and even though there was already 4 people in line at 8am, I was in and out in 5 minutes. Thank you. read more

Overall the Del Mar post office is Ok but one thing that Irked me today was I went in and had a Few priority mail boxes to ship I had a little tape with me but to be sure I asked the lady behind the counter if I could use some Priority Mail tape which there were 2 Large rolls sitting next to her She asked what I needed them for ....I said Ummm to mail a few Priority Mail boxes She looks and Says Sorry We Don't let Customers use the Priority tape anymore I asked Well what do you use it for?? She answers to cover up labels n other writing on pkgs WHAT DA HECK!!!!!! I've never heard of such a Idiotic response for tape especially when I'm paying to ship items by priority mail.......Guess if I had told her Oh I'm going to cover up some random writing I would of been AOK lol I'm going to do my postal business at the Solana Beach post office from now on where if u ask to use the Priority tape to mail a priority pkg they let you with No problems and Smile and have much better Customer Service than the Del Mar locale read more

I was in Del Mar for an appointment and realized I needed to mail out my friends' birthday card. Thank goodness for the new smart phone I purchased. I was able to look up the closest post office and found this location. It was also in walking distance which is a great thing too because there doesn't seem to be much parking for this location, which can be a downside if you have to pick up a package. Another issue I had was being able to locate the mailbox to drop off a letter on the inside of the post office. I know they have the blue mail boxes on the outside, however with recent mail fraud, I like to put my items inside the post office. Other than that a cute location with lots of charm. read more

USPS doesn't track address, just zipcode. It's possible to take the contents out of the box, change the delivery address slightly and the package will say delivered. That's what I think happened to me at this post office. Now let me say first, I have no proof and this is my fault too. After telling my mother not to send an item in the mail to me, my mom sent it anyway not knowing it was worth over $1000. That express mail has a $50 insurance and that's what she thought it was worth. This is a fault on my end. So my mom actually let the postal worker pack it. When my mom came back, a week or 2 later the postal worker actually remembered her and knew she had an expensive item. Now that postal worker could have told other postal workers about what was in the package, so it's impossible to accuse anyone. I just have fault with the USPS system. Now the package was marked delivered, but it never got to my place. And it only shows the zipcode that it's delivered to. The postal inspector called me and said it was very strange because she knows the actual apartment building I live in and there's usually a signature when delivered to that building. I'm guessing the address was changed slightly and an empty box was delivered. Maybe the box was lost, but why did it say delivered. How do you not track the address? UPS and Fed track the package, use them. read more

Worst PO ever! I wore a mask and was told to step back once I put my package on the counter with a wide and tall transparent divider in between. While the receptionist was working on it, she talked to her colleague who didn't have the mask covered her mouth. The receptionist then signaled me to come forward to pay while she stepped back. Then she asked me to step back again so she can finish the transaction. I was furious with the unfair treatment and asked her why I needed to step back. Of course she said it's protecting me and her, while she was talking to her unmasked colleague (without a divider)! read more

I am having serious trouble with the Del Mar, CA post office. Twice I took them a card for temporary address change and personally gave the to a clerk. The second time was necessary because they had to record of my having submitted the change. I asked them to please send accumulated mail to my new address. That was in early June; it is now July 26 and the mail has not yet been sent. I tried phoning at least 20 times, but only once did anyone answer. I asked the person who answered to please send the accumulated mail; she said she would. That was about 3 weeks ago; so far it has not arrived. I'm trying to be fair here. I've had my PO Box at this location for several years. All I can tell you is that within the last year and a half, there has been an overhaul of staff. As a result, the Del Mar office has gone from being helpful to a nightmare. When you ask the new clerks for assistance, they are rude and respond: "that's in the past and they weren't supposed to do it, we are now enforcing the rules so I can't help you." What was my request? To please check my PO Box since I left my key behind at home and had driven 35 mins to the office to also check the mail at the post office. Never had a problem before. Guess what I had to do now with the new hires? I had to verbally spar with her to then get her to sell me a new key arguing i couldn't find my other one, in the process getting charged $12. Again, I love our postal service, Del Mar, and have had mine for several years - but these recent hires have to go. And to add insult to injury, the clerk who was the most helpful to customers these past several years can now be found cleaning out PO boxes and picking litter off the ground around the post office and common areas outside. read more

They get the job done, but with government cutbacks, they're constantly shorthanded. It is common to see 10 customers backed up in a line with only one person at the counter. I've seen this place deteriorate in quality year after year since I moved to Del Mar in 2001. read more

If I could give a lower rating I would. I went to the post office today with my 17 month old daughter so didn't have time to waste. I was shipping something to my sister-in-law. I used the large flat rate box-17.90. I had to buy tape to tape the box. The woman at the desk was a horrible person. Just rude. I didn't pay much attention to price and swiped my credit card. After she walked away I looked at printed out receipt and realized she charged me 21.55 for the package. I got back in line (as there was a line at this point) and explained the situation to the new woman behind counter (nicer). She told me I would have to wait for woman to come back from break to have her void the package and start again. For a little less than $4 I wasn't about to wait for the lady to get back from break. But it just irked me. She should have known. read more

This particular post office has some of the nicest people I have come across at USPS offices, however, I am not sure how the USPS is a viable business. Even at this PO customer service can be rude once in a while in that they seem to act as if they are doing the customers a favor by taking our business. Additionally, I recently sent a package to an address that I have sent packages to before. This time it was returned to me, and the explanation was that the PO does not always deliver to physical addresses in Big Bear (usually to PO Boxes) and that even though they did deliver to this exact address before for me, that was at the discretion of the carrier. My choice was to call the carrier and ask if he or she would do that again. In the meantime I have lost 1 week of time, and the PO refused to give me a refund because they say they do not guaranty any delivery anywhere unless it is insured. So as a customer, they took my money, did not make a delivery because of some Big Bear PO policy that is not communicated to me at the time that I sent the package (using a PO clerk, not just dropping it off), and basically I try to resend it but no guaranty it will be delivered as opposed to returned to me again. UPS took the package and delivered it overnight without a hitch. If the USPS were a completely private entity, it would no longer be in business. Completely disfunctional operation. read more

This is the worst PO ever. I don't get mail usually about ever 4 to 6 wks I'm missing something. Like now, the tracking on a pkg says it was put into my mailbox, however it wasn't there. They put it into someone's else mailbox. This happens atleast twice a year with pkg's. To make matters worse, the phone is ALWAYS BUSY when I call to tell them about it. THEY JUST WON'T ANSWER THE PHONE. So frustrating!! read more

During my first minute in there I was thinking about how bad my review would be for this USPS location. I walked in at 9am, they had just opened and there was a line of 6 people with only one person working the counter. Good thing that one person was Elizabeth! She took charge by calling someone from the back to help people who were just there to pick up their overflow mail. Then Elizabeth quickly, but with very friendly service, got the line moving. She was friendly and kind something I have found not always been greeted with at USPS. Such a refreshing experience and great start to my day! read more

Parking is an absolute bear on weekend and in later afternoon. Arrive half an hour early if you are coming at these times in order to get a parking space and try the public lot below the hotel (entrance at rear of hotel to East of post office if need be). A neighboring home to the West of the post office has a dog that barks LOUDLY at everybody on this very public street whenever it is outside. Too bad the city of Del Mar does not do something about the noise pollution being created, unpleasantness and bad image for the city being created by this dog that these home owners need to put a barker breaker collar on for the sake of all those who visit the city of Del Mar and this post office. Garden out front is unusual and appealing particularly for a government or public building. Inside is a bit dated. The size of this post office is more appealing than some. read more

This is my third time of putting a hold on my mail while on vacation and not having the mail delivery resumed when an e-mail reminder from the PO said it would. My e-mail reminder wrote that mail would be resumed on October 18 (as requested) and today is the 19th no mail. I called the PO several times and the phone rings with no one answering. I would be glad to give this place 5 stars if they would just answer the phone or deliver my mail as they said they would! read more

The two people working the counter were so rude I walked out of understanding the term "going postal". Definitely some customer service training is in order. When I went in there were two workers, the one finished with her customer, he walked away and as I approached she slapped a "closed" sign on the window quickly and turned her back to me. I went back to the line and waited for the next guy. When he was available he verbally chastised me for not knowing the difference between the forms for express mail and priority mail (sorry, I guess I failed the postal awareness class??). Save yourself the trouble, spend a buck and go somewhere else. If the service at a private post office sucks, then you at least don't have to get mad about the wasted tax dollars. read more

First off I wish this place opened at 8am instead of 9am. I'm usually there at 9am if I do have to go to the dreaded post office. If you come later there is usually a line and just two people working. Come with patience. Also be very careful with parking...the spaces just right outside of the post office are only 20 minutes! Very efficient post office. Went at noon, the monday before xmas and there was a line but it went really fast. The women working were friendly. Go to this post office. Try to avoid the post office in Elam's Hallmark near vow's on valley center drive in Carmel Valley. They are unbelievably slow. read more

An extra star was added because the delivery people have always been professional and polite. I wanted to write this review in case anyone else comes across this problem. My family and I are in a short term (2mo) vacation rental because we are buying a house in the area and needed an intermediate residence. We do not get a key to the mailbox because we do not have a technical lease here. Because of the move we are having some things delivered directly to us instead of the mailbox we have in the next town over. Mostly seasonal kids clothes and Halloween costumes. Also my daughter's birthday presents from family. We have them shipped ups and FedEx because we do not have a key to the mailbox. Apparently those carriers transfer packages to usps to be delivered. If they are small enough to get put in the box that's where they get put. And I have to intercept the mailperson and explain to him our situation. I have my ID in case they need it. This just happened again and I called the post office and explained it to them. When the lady said, "Well just get a key." I explained we already asked about it and cannot. We've also done our best to bypass the usps to no avail. "Well you need a key." Was the answer given to me snottily. Okayyy....I asked, "Should we have the mail held? How can I work this so we get our packages and no one is hassled?" "I get what you're saying...but you need to get a key." Thanks for nothing lady. I have a feeling even writing this will get our packages returned if they read it. Our door is 30 ft from the mailbox. I'd have water and cookies set out if I knew it would help. Holy crow, this lady was terrible. I have no answer for my problem we have three weeks to deal with still and not sure if we will get our incoming packages. I don't know what to do...tell UPS and FedEx that USPS won't deliever our things to us? Tell the seller? Such a simple solution to a simple problem made more complex.....for a mother of three young children....I do NOT need that. read more
