Had an item I was shipping out, but had no clue what the process was. I rarely go to the post office which is once every couple of years or so, but seen how easy the process was to ship an item out. Very spacious parking with a retail store that can assist or answer any questions you have. I needed to ship a real small item that didn't require a box, so I wasn't sure what I needed. If I could give this post office zero stars as I would. They lost my package on a Monday but marked it as delivered at a PO box at this location. I went there physically on Wednesday and the woman at the front desk had me write down my name and personal phone number on a print out of my tracking information saying they would call me if they found it in the back because the mail was unsorted. I then got a call the next day where she lied to me saying that the carrier had it and was going to deliver it that day. Spoiler alert, they didn't because it was fully lost. If you get a package saying it was delivered to a PO box at this address, be prepared to file an inquiry and get a refund that way because you're never going to see your original order. Waste of time and gas. This post office should straight up be investigated for mismanagement because something is fundamentally wrong there. read more

These people suck, I'm sorry but the Asian lady in the front hates doing her job. You show her the tracking number and she always has excuses on why she doesn't want to go look for your package. Everyone else is fine and willing to help you out, but that lady always wastes your time and doesn't even understand what you're saying because she barely speaks English. I have registered online to have my vacation mail held several times. It used to work. The last two times my mail kept being delivered even though I had a confirmation from the usps website that it would be held. I wrote to the Palo Alto postmaster who never responded. So this time, i printed out the confirmation and handed it to the Palo Alto postmaster who stamped it with a "received" stamp. And the mail was delivered today, the first day of the mail hold. I always stop the mail a day before I leave just to make sure. Watch out for the incompetent Palo Alto postmaster! read more

They do not know how to process passports here. The woman insisted I fill out a "lost passport" form though I'd already filled one out and had the form to prove it. They also insisted I pay $170 for a "file search and verification", though I had the form and the website clearly says *not* to pay if you lost a fairly new passport. I confirmed all of this on phone with the State Department as well. So I waited an hour (they run very late) for incompetent service, and ended up leaving to try to file again somewhere else. The worker Myat had a horrible attitude--she was rude to every single customer in line, speaking in a way that made people feel small and unwelcome. . This usps has always had people with attitude. When I came here for my passport process it was good. I didn't not catch the person's name. Everyone else is nice except Chung. He's an asshole . I had a question because there was 2 items packed in 1 so I was not sure which label to put on. Chung just said to out whichever and I asked for tape he said he didn't have tape. I looked at him and said the customer representative used tape and he said go ask her for tape. I don't have none. I felt in disbelief like this is where our tax money goes to and he couldn't help. I said oh you just don't like to help customers he said no we sell tape and pointed to the tape strands on the rack. So I walked over and purchased some. Chung was so rude. He could've easily helped with 2 stands of tape to tape the paper. And now I received a message that my package there was an issue with it. People like this should he kept in the back. He obviously does not like to provide good customer's service. I saw the reviews from pervious customers and it looks like they do not do anything about bad customer service because he's still there. And someone else complained about him already. Typical companies. But honestly everywhere we go now a days no one likes where they work at. I view a trip to the post office as I do a trip to the DMV: Brutal. But I cannot say that was the case when I visited this location earlier in the week. I came in to apply for a passport and was greeted joyously by Show. I had no idea what I needed to do, but she was able to run through the instructions and make the process as seamless as possible. I had a bad experience today. 9/30/2024 I came to usps in east PaloAlto at around 1:30 PM to process Japanese visa materials for mailing. An older female clerk at the counter said that it was necessary to enter information on the machine, otherwise there would be no tracking number, but the full name of Japanese consulate could not be entered on the machine. When I asked her for help, She said with great impatience that I have to serve others, you must do it yourself. Extremely rude attitude. Followed the exact instructions on the passport application and brought in my own picture from Walgreens. She processed our application very fast and I was out within 30 minutes. The gentleman at the front desk was very kind in letting us pick out our stamps for our wedding invitations! The roses were the classiest design. The parking at this spot is not exactly ideal-we visited on a Friday afternoon at 3pm before the rush hour traffic really started so we got lucky with the green spot right in front of the store which required all of 3 steps to get inside! There was also no line at all. Wondering if the reason for the average rating of 2 stars for this place is because of the staff- there was one lady who was rather short with us and it was upsetting for me to see her take our pile of wedding invitations and almost intentionally take an extra effort in carelessly tossing them into the bin closest to her. I suppose that's out of habit and not to blame for the throw, but it would have been nice of her to place them down more gently given they were wedding invitations. The other pro-tip of coming here (if you're curious) is there is a nice long table for you to do any last-minute stamp attachments or folding for boxes, which are nicely in view of the front desk in case you don't want to have to wait again at the very end of the line (such a rookie's mistake!). Rather than waiting, most people at the front will be entirely okay with you just skipping back to where you were in line- at the very front- because you'll already have paid the shipping costs. read more

Poor customer service. I had an appointment this morning 2/14/25 at 9:45am for my 2 month old daughter's passport. we arrived at 9:40am. There was one employee and no other customers in line. The employee was helping someone else with a passport appointment, she called us over at 9:49am. She asked if we had the printed passport application, I let her know I unfortunately wasn't able to print it but had the finalized form as a pdf. I asked if I could either pay to print out the completed form or if she could provide me with a copy to fill it out by hand. She said no, that they do not provide the application and that she wasn't going to be able to help me. That I would need to reschedule. Very disappointing that she had no empathy and not once tried to help, it was a straight no. I know for a fact the post office provides a copy of the application as I was at them Redwood City location earlier this week for sisters passport. The people especially Kiara is very rude. I was here yesterday at 4,55pm and was not able to send my son who is in the military in Jordan. I could not sent him a care package. Today I was here 4:40pm and immediately told by Kiara I could not be helped. They need lots of time to do paperwork. Again I could not get my packages shipped Kiara also was yelling at me from afar. Worst postal service I've ever had. First, they state that they "delivered" a package, only for it to show up days later. Then, they will also state they "delivered" a package, only for it to never arrive and sit in their building until they ship it back to the sender. Then, I will schedule a pick-up at my home, receive a confirmation that my packages were picked-up, only for them to STILL be sitting outside on my porch. There's no way for you to file a complaint because they just don't care. I will now go out of my way to avoid this place. read more

If you're getting a passport, don't use the photo services here. They have a camera with a wide angle lens that distorts your face and makes you look like a possum. Just bring your own photo, or you'll regret it (now I have to have that awful photo on my passport for the next 20 years). Otherwise, this post office is fine. read more

Perhaps the worst post office experience I've ever had. The passport agent is completely unhelpful (as other people have said) and incapable of answering basic questions. We arrived an hour before the office opened with our newborn and waited behind a sign that said "passport line starts here" while other employees milled around and set up. Turns out they only take appointments, contrary to what it says online and their own hand-made sign. The employee and her manager--neither of whom would provide us their names--couldn't even tell us when the next available appointment was and started yelling at us when we asked ("You aren't listening! 845am, I'm at the post office passport application line here on Bayshore road next to East Palo Alto. The web site says you do not need to make an appointment -just show up at 9am at the passport office window. In front of me is a very familiar 49 year old good looking blonde lady, with her 3 teenagers in tow, having to pull them out of school to get the passport application completed. The lady looks at me, and sees that I'm only a 62 year old Asian guy, and relaxes, here in the crime capital of the Peninsula, and gives me a smile. The line grows to 8 people, with a sign on the passport application door saying 'By Appointment Only!' 9am on the dot, a middle aged Filipino lady opens the door right, and asks who in line has an appointment. She takes the 1 person in line with an appointment. Everyone else take out their cell phones and calls the number for an appointment. Naturally we all get busy signals and behind the closed door we hear the phone ringing and ringing. I guess that employee never heard of multitasking! The 1 person with the appointment, comes out the door, and the lady picks up the phone and says next appointment to that caller is 3 weeks from now. The line gets longer, and Filipino lady asks if anyone has phone appointment. 1 more person steps forward, and she checks the name against the appointment list. There's no use phoning while she's going through the passport process, as she won't answer. Meanwhile the lady with 3 teenagers in tow also has no appointment, and has the look of complete frustration, and about to lose it. Now don't go postal on me, woman, it isn't my fault! One person with an appointment now leaves. We ask her how she got an appointment, and she says she's Filipino and knows someone at the post office, and gets an appointment pronto. In Manila you pay people to stand in line for you all day, and you need to grease the palms of the employees, to get things done. My review is for one person in particular. Unfortunately, I do not know her name. I came to this post office to pick up a package. Online tracking info says that it was at this post office. One of the agents helped me, and she was nice. The agent on the next counter kept telling her not to help me....the mean agent told the nice one to send me to the supervisor. I waited in line for the supervisor, who apparently was in a meeting. Another nice agent helped me, but couldn't track where my package was. The same mean agent, again, told her to forget about helping me. This mean agent is Asian, has long, dark hair, in a ponytail, and slightly rotund. I asked her if she was the supervisor, and she said no. Is she wasn't the supervisor, why is she not minding her own work and let the other people help me? She told me that the other agents should be helping customers. I am a customer! If a supervisor is reading this, could you please address this issue with your employee? It's unfortunate that there are some nice people working here, and one bad egg is ruining customers' experience. read more

I have had several encounters with the Post Office at 2085 East Bayshe in E. Palo Alto. Everytime I've had to go there about missing mail or packages, I've had checks not delivered,, packages and merchandise that I never received, and a honest neighbor actually brought my mail to me because it was in her mailbox. Kanchan the supervisor always covers up for the carrier, who says "I delivered it to the correct mailbox", and her response is "he said he delivered it to your mailbox" well of course he said that because he would be in trouble if he said anything different. Do you really think I would be there pitching a fit if I had what was missing. That doesn't even make sense. Its not fair that now I have to PAY FOR A P.O. BOX to make sure I get my darn mail. But they don't care because its not theirs. They are negligent, irresponsible, inconderate and don't care about nothing you say. RUDE and UNACCOUNTABLE! They know that their jobs are safe, and it is obvious that they are not held accountable to anyone (or that the responsible person does not hold them accountable for their actions). Carolyn was the counter employee who promptly said "I can't help you" and immediately called the next person up without letting me ask another question. When I asked for her supervisor to see if he could help, she claimed she didn't know his name. I noticed she made her nametag disappear, so I asked her name. I had to ask it 3 times before she gave it to me, and only when 5 witnesses watched. When I asked again to speak to the supervisor, she told me to wait in line behind a closed door and talk to the Custom's agent. (I don't think she expected the agent to come out for the usual 15 minutes, but I got lucky and it opened to a large group of angry people in line). The agent couldn't help me, but said that she would page the supervisor (unlike Carolyn). She eventually pointed out the supervisor, but he wouldn't give his name either (supposedly Ken Auyang). Ken said he would look into it, and permanently hid in the back office until I went home (after 25 minutes). Every 5 minutes I would ask to have him just come back and talk to me so I could leave, and each time the counter people said to wait. They refused to go back and get him, even though there was no one in line waiting. Around 20 minutes someone came in looking for help, and the 2 counter people just continued chatting with each other and Carolyn was steadily ignoring him for 5 minutes. It wasn't until I walked up again and asked for the supervisor that Carolyn suddenly decided to help the other guy. The other guy was already mad at being ignored and waiting, but he actually told Carolyn that she should help me first. I finally got the supervisor's name from the other 2 counter people (who also evaded, then mumbled his name). I finally got Ken Auyang spelled for me from the one guy. Before I left, I asked Carolyn for Ken's boss, since they wouldn't let me speak with Ken again. Odd thing is she said Ken's full name (which she suddenly knew), but it sounded like she was avoiding Diana's name, as she kept adding syllables to the name when I repeated it back to her. (Diane..Diana...Diana Lee...Diana Leann). Looking it up online, it's Postmaster Diana L Liang. It would have been easier if they just wrote the name in the empty slot over the counter that says: POSTMASTER: (blank), STATION MASTER (blank). All during this time, A group of people in the customs line were furious at being told to go home after waiting for at least an hour. They couldn't make an appointment since no one ever answers the appointment phone, but they weren't allowed to make an appointment there, nor stand in line either. (The counter tells them to stand in line, but the customs agent says she can only handle one more person before she leaves at 3, and she can't find the appointment for the one person who had one). In all the state's I've lived and visited, USPS was friendly, responsive, and helpful. BUT, this OFFICE needs a COMPLETE OVERHAUL, with either all new employees or some serious attitude training. I've had to pass by it everyday for 5 years. 6 months out of the year, it's landscape makes it look abandoned, with weeds 4 feet tall and garbage everywhere, and outdated signs with inaccurate information. For many people it's the only option. I've used it a dozen times, and only been helped quickly twice (once during a lull, and once when they looked like someone was watching them). A couple try to be friendly, but they've set themselves up for failure. This office: * loses packages, * forgets to scan packages, * can't find the packages the tracker says are behind the counter (but show up after you leave), * has corrupt practices and favoritism for certain cultures (odd when you see it in action), * poor communication (sign's that say appointment only hidden INSIDE the building instead of on the front door), * no proper check and balance to see if the employee's perform their duties, * no call center, nor method of answering a phone or leaving a message, * no tracking or reprimand for not answering the phone, * no way to reach supervisors (nor a poster providing consumer relations numbers) I've gotten mixed feedback about my own latest refund issue that triggered this review (different pages on the USPS.gov site say/omit different things). BUT, they should NOT have told me to go away when I asked for a supervisor, nor ignore the federal website, nor ignore me for 30 minutes, nor hide until I'm gone, nor avoid taking my name. It is improper to lie and hide their management structure. Their completely irresponsible attitude triggers angry and frustrated responses in everyone in the building. It would have been very simple for them to give me a federal or regional number to call, and to take my name and promise to call me back within 24 hours. read more

Call me crazy but I actually like this post office. I got a letter sent out Express Mail and I was in and out within a few minutes. The letter really needed to be there overnight, but it took an extra day for whatever reason. I paid a pretty penny for it, so I went back to the post office because it was guaranteed service and I didn't get it. I thought it'd be a nightmare to try and get a refund, but it was worth a try. I got up to the counter, the same gentleman who processed my mail helped me. I showed him my receipt, he looked up the tracking number, said, "Yup, you're right." I thought he would pull out some forms or some other bureaucratic BS, but he literally just opened the cash register and handed me cash back. It was the most efficient process I had ever experienced at the post office. read more

I come to this post office so often because is the closest to me but everytime I come in I am reminded of the poor customer service they have. I deter from leaving negative comments on Yelp but after many encounters with "HAN" and his poor customer service. Any encounter with him results in him being rude and raising his voice. Today while speaking to him after being directed to him by one of his colleagues he began to scream at me telling me "I don't know what to tell you, you need to speak to the supervisor" once I asked for him/her he told me there wasn't one. That it was on a rotation basis. I repeated told him to stop screaming at me because I wasn't raising my voice at him. It's upsetting to see people working in customer service and having such bad attitudes. If you can go to another post office do yourself a favor and do so.
