The people who work here are quite short with you and come off rude. The worker with badge name that says "Ms. Smith" is especially surly. Don't ask her any questions because it's too much of a bother to answer them, and if she does choose to grace you with an answer, expect an eye roll to come with it. The only worker I've experienced there who was polite and charming was a younger employee, some female, thin, attractive, and just a general pleasure to go to her window. Absolutely the worst post office I've ever used. Staff is slow and rude. On my last visit, the clerk couldn't even read the postage on a stamp. I'd use the self-service kiosk instead, but it wasn't working. Staff doesn't seem to realize how lucky they are to still be employed as "public servants." For all time while I live in this neighborhood I have never ever ever ever (ok maybe few times I have) got my packages in a lobby of my building. The freacking postman ALWAYS leaving me this stupid orange notices (sometimes not even fully filled). This brunch just refuse to deliver me my things! I literally live at this post office. Their explanation is: your package is not fit into your mailbox. Dude, come on! It's a mailbox! Not a package box! You are not the first post office I'm dealing with. The UP Postal Service is a miracle. It works honestly and reliably, at very low cost. Congress refuses to allow the USPS to charge adequate fees, so there is not enough money to modernize or even to adequately maintain the facilities. The people behind the counter make it work, despite old equipment and a poorly maintained infrastructure. The people who slam the workers should complain instead to their representatives and tell them to allow the USPS to manage its business without back seat driving by Congress. read more

This Yorkville Post Office is the reason why I finally signed up for a yelp account. I agree with the other 1 star reviewers. This place is a necessary evil that will turn a perfectly wonderful mood sour. In the dozen or so times I have been forced to deal with these people in person or over the phone, I have by and large experienced a surly, lazy staff who ignore customers, walk away from their posts for 15 minutes at a time, abuse power (you are at their mercy), and make up tall tales about why your mail was not delivered to your home but to the post office this time. But that's not all -- the signage is horrible, not only regarding postal rates, options and protocol, but also directing people where to go for specific needs, and even not letting people know that one of the two inner doors is permanently locked. Every time I have been here, one person after another tries to come in or leave by that door only to be jolted by the fact that it is actually a wall impersonating a door. People just want to get in and out this place as quickly as possible, but the staff tortures you by not letting you know how to best prepare mailings and consider mailing options, and then impedes your departure by leaving primary exit doors locked. Of course, the best way to avoid this mess would be to use the automated *machine* (that's right, there's only one), but the icing on the cake is that I have never seen it in working order (but there's no sign posted to let you know that). I wish the quick and speedy shut down of this branch and the many others like it so that these useless public union sycophants are put out of their misery as soon as possible. Maybe they won't lose their jobs, but hopefully they will be reassigned to a job where they don't interact with people, but with the machines that will ultimately replace them. read more

Awful attitude today at the post office. I came in the rain (downpour) and a bad attitude women pushed my package back to me and told me to wipe it all up. Unpleasant and aggressive. I moved to another person because her attitude was so bad. Perhaps they need to teach proper customer service to these ladies. Been here several times for various mailing needs. Line length and duration really depends on when you go. Weekday afternoons are the best while weekends and evenings are more difficult because that's when most people aren't working and have free time. The workers are pretty grumpy. The hours sort of suck for me because I work a steady 9 to 5, so my only chance is to come on Saturday or get out like 5-10 minutes early so I can rush to make it before 6. This place gets the job done when I need. If they had at least one more machine, I'm sure it could cut down on the line time. Sometimes I'd rather just overstamp whatever I want to send out instead of coming here to calculate postage. Money well spent to avoid the frustration of this place. P.S. No dogs allowed. They snidely say they're not going to serve you after you've already waited 5-10 minutes in line and they've SEEN the dog. I'm onto you, 1617 3rd Ave USPS. A package came into your possession from UPS on 1/10 (as per the UPS tracking info). On 1/23, I received my first notice about the package. Strangely, it was listed as FINAL NOTICE... and had been backdated 12 days to 1/10 (so, you had made 3 attempts in 1 day!?!?)! Not sure why you couldn't deliver it as the notice was in my mailbox and the package could have been left at that time too. As one of your employees disclosed to me, you have an employee who doesn't bother to take packages out for delivery and just leaves a notice. Easily the worst establishment I have ever visited...ever. Each time I visit I feel like I'm stepping into a reality TV or prank show. The following is a summary of what you can expect during a visit to this post office: -Incredibly rude, inattentive, inefficient employees. -Witnessing a nervous breakdown by a customer while interacting with employees. Sometimes these rants/arguments were so unbelievable I almost had a nervous breakdown. -Do you need tape because one of the pieces on your package is coming apart?? Well, expect to pay a gazillion dollars for that. -Do you need insurance for your package?? Expect to be directed to a kiosk despite the fact that you see the employee has some right in FRONT OF HER FREAKING FACE, then have to get back in line all over again. -Do you need a pen to fill out the insurance sheet? Expect to get attitude. And last but not least...did you lug several heavy boxes three blocks with a bum back?? Well, don't be surprised if they tell you that their machines are down, and that your $300 bill has to be paid in CASH!! Seriously?? Every time I enter this post office, hostility is in the air. Many of the staff members are very aggressive and like to belittle customers. My fiancee and I have started walking to the next-closest location down on 85th street between 2nd and 3rd. It's well worth the walk. I've been using this post office for 2 years. Yes it's smaller and less staffed than the one on 85th. And yes there are long lines during busy times of the year. But I've never dealt with any unprofessional or rude people there. I've waited on a line once Xmas week for 45 minutes... Honestly I see yelpers wait a good hour for a popular restaurant during rush hour without complaint. I don't understand how that's much different for the post office. So Calm down ppl. If this post office closes we are def gonna all hurt. And I try to go during off peak hours and there's usually no line. And I have not ever seen people moving slow- I asked for priority mailing boxes last week because the slots were empty and guy came right out and gave me boxes and refilled the slot. read more

Ok I have been doing a LOT of business at the post office lately. I'm here about twice a week. And while most post offices in my past have brought nothing but stress, annoyance and LOTS of waiting...I have been pleasantly surprised by this one. Yes, some of the people who work here are less than friendly. But most of the time it seems like they are just weary of someone throwing a tantrum. I have seen SO many customers treat these people miserably and the fact that a few of them manage to still smile and wish you a nice day is nothing short of amazing. Minus one star because they only have one or two pens working at any given time. So what if their pens are duck taped for their life to a table, if they don't work, who would steal them? You know how in movies and TV shows the post office is a ridiculous unorganized mess? Well, they must have visited this post office for their inspiration. Walk into the place is like walking into a field of sadness. A long depressed line stretches to the door. I don't know what all these people are doing there, but it seems they are chained to the floor and can perhaps never leave. If you are picking up a package, first off, good luck. Second, walk all the way to the back to the unmanned counter. There you will wait for some employee to maybe notice that you are standing there. When the employees are finally done chatting about their day with each other, they will attend to you. Give them your ID and be prepared for confuse looks and verbal harassment. "You got something sent here?" "From where?" Also be prepared to have them tell you they don't have your stuff, you are at the wrong postal office, the mailman wrote down an unreadable number, or you messed up mailing the package (I guess because you mailed something to yourself?). Do not falter though. Your stuff is there. Politely tell them to go look in the unorganized pile of mail scattered throughout the back. Not on this shelf? How about that one? No? How about that one? What? Joe found it in the back? Great. You will get your stuff eventually. And that is why I give them 2 instead of 1 star. Despite the experience being miserable and ridiculous, they usually find the mail. It is just unnecessarily efficient. Honestly, still better than other random locations I've dealt with in the city. I wouldn't call this a "fun" place to visit. Yeah, you have a mail something. Yeah, you got a slip in your mailbox and can't go until Saturday to pick it up. But what makes it worse is that there is always a long line, and the people there aren't particularly friendly. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Bob, the manager, looked a package that was suppose to arrive to my apartment 5 days earlier and tells me that its in new jersey. This is basic information, I got online. I want to know there is an estimated delivery date, a reason for delay etc. He says I can't help I just have to wait. I tell him I simply want an estimate or can that post office be called for an update. He goes and ahead and walks away from me saying you just have to wait. He walked over to cashiers so that I couldn't continue my inquiry. This was after the fact I came in early in the morning and asked an associate which told me to come later and bob could give me more information. Boy was she wrong. So I didn't get any information, my package is 5 days late, Bob was useless, and I can't even call the new jersey office because it directs me to a busy line. To add insult to my experience, this place has no ac with just fans in the back so I walk out drenched in sweat. Ohh and I tried calling the postal service number online which simply directs you to a machine with absolutely no way to talk with someone life. The people who work here don't deserve their jobs. And there is no supervision. I live in the area and have had many problems with these people. And when you ask for a supervisor, the answer is always there is nobody around. I was in there a couple weeks ago with a standard size envelope. I was almost sure it was under 1 oz, but I needed to be sure. I didn't see the scale and a customer told me it was broken. I went in the back where they hold incoming mail, etc, and it was gated closed. There was a huge line for customer service because of holidays. I know how sensitive these people are so I very politely went to a cust service person and said I know there is this big line and people are waiting, but could you just tell me if this is over 1 oz. Very loudly she said I had to go on the line like everyone else. So embarrassing for me, with everyone looking. I felt guilty because it looked like I was cutting the line. There could have been a better way for them to handle this. I added the extra postage and mailed. These are very rude, nasty people who are not trained and work here without any supervision. If you ever need your spirit crushed, your optimism usurped, or your life's outlook bleakened, come on down to the USPS! The location is designed to set you on the correct path for destruction, as you either have to walk up 2 flights of stairs (from 2nd ave) or pretend to not race other people (from downtown) as you try to get to the door first. Once inside, it doesn't fail to disappoint; the layout is designed to be the most inefficient Post Office in the Tri-State area. You walk down a long "corridor of death" past everyone in line and also past the employees, who use this time to size you up and determine which method of mental or physical intimidation would work best. Once you get to the back of the line, you're forced to view those-that-came-before and their vain attempts to send packages, pick up packages, or get answers to basic questions. When your turn comes, you are not disappointed. "Come on, I'm not waiting all day" says the person as you are walking toward them. The rest of the trip is a blur. Perhaps it was the insult hurled at the old woman. Perhaps it was the au pair with the triple-wide stroller who cut in front of you at the last minute, feigning to not understand the culture. Maybe it was the manager who calmly listened to people complaining about customer service, and then as soon as that person left, laughing about them with her employees. The best thing to do is drink heavily, arrive early, and plan on drinking afterward. Still a better post office than Hell Gate at 110 st. I almost gave it 2 stars for that. Almost. read more

With the exception of a few kind women who work here, this staff has the WORST attitude toward customers. It is unbelievable! Most are lazy and super inconvenienced by having to do the slightest thing (like their job...). I particularly dread getting one male clerk, who is usually posted at one of the last registers. He treats everyone like they just tore him out of bed in the middle of the night for assistance. Today, I had to deal with his lousy, hostile, passive-aggresive attitude yet again and I know the drill. He goes out of his way to take FOREVER to help you, hoping you'll squirm & freak out. As he was doing this, he let me know that his job is "sooo much more complicated than I realize" and "people don't understand how the post office works" (nor do they need to, btw) and that "this will take a long time to finish." He behaved as though I was asking him to perform some Herculean task by having to weigh & post the several package I brought up to him. Another part of his big lecture included that I "shouldn't have waited until the end of the day to bring in multiple packages." He was threatening not to get them on the truck before the end of the night, which was total BS, but I ignored it. I was on the line long before closing, but the line was long and, newsflash, this is HIS JOB!!! In the past, when I went in to pick up a package and he worked the package pick-up area, he would walk around and do all sorts of nonsense and personal stuff just to make me wait for him, knowing I could see him avoiding me. If you complain, he just slows down and makes it harder. He is the worst one, but I've experienced many bad attitudes at this location. Very unclear how they can loose both keys to our apartment building. Mail was not be delivered unless someone was home. A mailman asked us to make a copy of the key for him.... INSANE. Now we find out that the person who delivers the packages does not have a key, so we are not receiving deliveries. My boyfriend and I have now twice attempted to pick these up and because of their stupidity we were not able to. The people who work there are extremely rude. I showed up at 6:02 today when they close at 6pm. I have very little time to get there from the time I get out of work to the time I get there. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I gave up on this Post Office long ago in favor of the much friendlier crew on 85th between 2nd and 3rd. However, on my way back from the gym today, I decided to stop by to weigh my wedding invitations and make sure they were not overweight. After waiting in line for a standard amount of time, I arrived at the front. The open cashier turns to her friend and starts talking about something. Without looking over she yells, "Step over!" Hesitantly, I walk to her post. I ask her to, "weigh this, please" in a possibly curt tone, but after being told to "step over" I had little patience. She immediately said it was an oversized envelope without even putting it on the scale. I told her it was actually the proper dimensions for a regular letter because I had looked it up online on the usps website. She continues, "How you gonna tell me that you 'looked it up online' when I work here?" I told her I was going to wait on line for the next teller and she started screaming through the post office, "It ain't even about them, it's your letter. Oversized here, oversized there." I then told her that I would at least wait for a nicer teller. She continued screaming, literally screaming, "How you gonna come in here and say you looked it up on the internet? You come over here with your attitude" at this point we left and she went on, "yeah, go somewhere else." Anyway, we went straight to the post office at 85th between 2nd and 3rd and not one but two mail people assured me that my letter would be fine with a forever stamp and that of course it was not oversized. The staff talked and laughed out loud as if the customers standing in-line were invisible. Waiting time is long and they took their time attending to every request. They talked slow.
