Not only have I stepped into this place the same amount of times I set foot into Eastridge, I almost feel like I can shrink myself and stuff myself into a PO Box. The staff here is friendly, my fav worker Judy. She's always looking out to save me more money as well as giving me alternate shipping methods for the quality service I need to send to MY customers. Got excited that they had Saturday passport service. Didn't realize I'd be here for hours!! They are literally taking 20+ minutes per person for each of the mob of folks in line ahead of me (and no offense to big families, since I come from one myself, but seriously -- does everyone in line have to have 6 kids in tow??). Heed my warning to all those needing postal service. All that said -- i am giving them 2 stars (instead of "0" -- an option Yelp needs to develop). One is for even offering this service on a Saturday. Second is for the very kind postal clerk, who processed my paperwork -- even though they were officially closed by the time I got through the line. I would give this post office 0 stars if possible. I have had great experiences at other places, but this post office is by far the worst in customer service. I came to open a PO Box but did not have a non photo ID (lease, mortgage, insurance, etc.) because I am still young. On the website, it says that I can also provide an "additional acceptable primary form of identification as your acceptable secondary form of identification". Therefore, I brought my DL and my Passport. They still refused me, despite what the website of the official USPS clearly states. In additional to this, the two clerks were rude and refused to follow the website's information. Not only do the clerks here need training on customer service, they need to be trained on the knowledge of opening a PO Box. They are clearly lacking everything. read more

My sister had recently got a PO Box there and lost the paper that said what number she was. So we went there the next day to ask if they can look her up and write down her PO Box number. We were first " helped" by this woman named Rosario. We told her we don't know our PO Box number and we were there to get the number she said with and attitude " wel I don't know it either" and me and my sister were like.. huh???? Like of course you don't know thats why you ask her for her ID and then look her up. And then she was like " She can help you with that" and made us go to the next counter. I didn't catch her name but it was a nice Asian woman who helped us. We told her our issue and asked for my sisters ID, and did it in like 2 minutes smh. What to bring: - Applications that has been filled out - Drivers license - Copy of drivers license, front and back - Proof of citizenship or birth certificate (they keep and mail back to you) - Copy of citizenship or birth certificate - Passport photo * Double check with The Department of State just to be sure. Every situation requires different documents. What to know: - Get there early around 7am to secure a position - The official list does not come out until they open at 10am. But there might be an unofficial list floating around somewhere before that time in an effort to keep track of who came first. (the chicken or the egg?) - They DO accept check, cash and debit, but NOT credit card - They take passport photos here for $15 - Once your name is called the process takes about 10-15 minutes, tops. (IF you have all your documents and applications filled out) Tips: - Just get your name on the list. If you happen to be absent when your name is called, let them know and they will go through it again once their done so you have another chance. - If you see a male worker, brace yourself because you're about to have a horrible experience. - The two ladies that took over after the lunch break were so kind and helpful. If you get them, they'll take care of you. This is a long and tiring process. But at least it's inside a mall so there's food nearby and some light shopping if you get bored and time permits. So bring a fully charged phone or something to entertain yourself with because you'll need at least half, if not a full day here just to get it done. But sacrifices must be made and it'll all be worth it in the end to be able to travel the world! read more

I've never mailed an international letter before so I went in with my letter and asked if I could post it and how the cost is determined. The person I got either did not understand me or did not listen because she just kept saying my letter would be $17 to ship and was considered a package. When I inquired why, she pulled up a slot and in a very snarky tone said see!, see, doesn't fit. I then asked if it were to fit in the slot if it would be considered a letter and if that was the only classification needed to make it a letter and she very sassily said "it doesn't fit" again. I was never once rude back to the person and found my first trip to the post office to be very unhelpful. I will never use the usps post office after this experience and will instead go to the ups store. read more

This is my favorite USPS facility to drop off packages. The interior drop-off bin is available any time the mall is open and it goes straight into their facility. That's already a huge plus for me that I can come any time after work and flip my boxes inside! None of this guessing "gosh, if I leave it in this blue bin outside will someone break in and steal my packages?" Peace of mind, for sure. Next best thing: Even though the counters are closed, they will still process my packages after hours. Many times I have dropped my packages in after 7pm (their closing time) but I get scan notifications before they open the next morning. Awesome!! Final best thing: To date, they have not lost any of my packages!!! (Unlike another USPS facility *cough* Cahalan Ave *cough*) Always a source of anxiety for me since I don't ship at the counter, but I feel better shipping here. The only sucky thing is that there are some really bad drivers in this area making it a near death experience to come here sometimes, but that is not USPS' fault. read more

For passport: arrived to the parking lot around 4am. Didn't get in line until 5am. Wait until 7-730am until someone from the inside open the door. The security guard was coming late. When it's 10am, they open the door and start writing the name of the people. There were only 1 clerk and she only accept 40 people on the list. Everyone else has to go home. If you arrive later, you should ask for the first person if they've made a list just for the line if not then you guys should make one. I also went here on a saturday but it was packed and was 27th in the line. Didn't finish after 2pm. I suggest coming here on weekdays than weekends. These people are the most incompetent jerks that exist. They restricted our po box access to only two days per week. I'm accepting of this and I made the best of things. Today I went to check my po box and I was locked out of it along with 20 other pissed off people. The post office never sent po box renewal notices this year and they subsequently locked everyone out of their boxes, during a pandemic! *This review is for the passport office only After reading every review on this page and using the passport website to print everything I needed, I felt confident enough to take my chances lining up at this post office to submit my passport application. I was successful today (Tuesday 5.26.2015) and it took about five hours total. Here's what you need to know: 1. Have all of your passport items ready. The passport website is simple and allows you to fill out the proper forms to print and bring with you. There were many people filling out forms in line, which made the entire process longer for everyone. Don't forget the other requirements which vary for each application. I was a first time applicant so I brought my original birth certificate, my 2x2 picture, a copy of my driver's license (FRONT & BACK), a check for $110 filled out for the "Department of State" and my ds-11 forms. (A check or money order is REQUIRED to send with your forms to the department of state. The $25 fee from the post office can be charged or paid in cash) 2. Arrive early. The post office opens at 10am, but people arrive earlier. The mall doors are open, so walk in and have a seat on the ass-breaking floor next to the sign that says "Passport line starts here." There are seats, but chances are they'll be taken. I walked into the mall at 7am and was number 11 on the list. At 11:55am I heard my name and by 12:00pm, I was gone. 3. Practice patience. There is no set time for how long each application will take, so make sure you know your place on the sign-up sheet and check back often. The passport guy, or "E," says he can get through about 6 people per hour. After I got on the list around 9:50am, I browsed the mall and returned several times to check which names E scratched off. Once I saw the family before me scratched off the list, I stayed close by. If you are not there when they call you, you'll be skipped and SOL. I saw the types of people who leave bad reviews on this page.They're the same people who rush the door every time it opens, which again slows the process for everyone else. There's usually 5-10 people standing outside the passport office demanding answers from E. "How much longer until my turn," "Can I still get on the list?" Sorry, but you have to arrive early, the same as everyone else. It's not E's fault you thought it would be a good idea to show up at noon to try to apply for a passport. That's not how this works. As I stated, there is NO set time for how long each application will take. Some people are in-and-out in five minutes, others can take as long as 30 minutes. This pertains to passport renewal. NEVER go here for in-person passport renewal if you can avoid it. It says no appointments online, but you seriously need to get there before the mall even opens if you want a passport renewal on the weekend. I got there about 45 minutes before it officially opened and ended up being 46/60 people to get a "numbered ticket." By the time my number was called, it was around 5PM. HOW hard is it to process 45 people for passports in 7 hours? That's around 7 people PER HOUR. By now, I was not a happy camper, but to be greeted by somebody who goes, "oh, YOU're 46, why don't you speak up?" Umm... maybe because I was holding up my number quietly and politely right in front of you?? Then the "best" part of the day; this woman who isn't wearing the same blue USPS uniform as the other workers tells me my passport photos are not correct. WTF? My face is properly sized, it fits in the example. "You can't see the end of your eyebrows or your WHOLE face." WTF?? Do I have eyebrows that extend to the sides of my head?? Are there Vulcans on Earth now, am I one of them? I know you can't see the picture, but my friends were also confused when I showed them my "rejected" pictures. Then she has the NERVE to say, "Well, you can have it redone and come back some other day." So I just waited 7 hours to have my acceptable picture denied?? So instead of wasting more energy arguing with this hopeless person, I forked over $15 to get my photo taken by her and made sure I pulled all my hair back so they didn't cover the very ends of my eyebrows. A lesson we all should know by now: whenever possible, make an appointment when visiting a governmental office. Located near JCPenney in the Eastridge Mall, this US Post Office offers passport application services, no appointment necessary. We arrived today at 12:35 p.m. and saw a long line. We got in the back, and saw a sign which said they only serve 45 people per day, and they also break for lunch from 1 to 1:30 p.m. We found out from others in line that numbers had just been distributed through 41. So we waited and around 1 p.m., the only employee working there came out and gave us a laminated tag with the number 42 on it. She said there was no need to wait in line since she took people according to the numbers. Coming back after 1:30 p.m., there were some new faces, but people were saying that she was calling people by the numbers. The pace was about 10 minutes per person and there were about 12 people ahead so we left for about 30 minutes. By the time we returned, we should have been much closer, but then new people had come and received numbers. The trouble was that these people blocked the entrance to the small passport office, and there was no way to see or hear what number was being called. When we showed others our number, people said "Oh, they aren't going by numbers now - it's just by where you are in line." (LIE!) Finally, we craned our necks into the small office to hear that 43 and 44 were being helped, and she was on 45. We said "We're 42!!!" over the mob that had packed in front of us and refused to budge an inch. This office needs a better system of managing the people waiting. I would suggest posting two LED signs which displayed the current number being served both inside and outside the post office (in the mall walkway) so that the mob doesn't congregate around the small entrance/exit. You could have a announcement speaker installed so people can hear what number is being called. It's very uncomfortable for those waiting to feel like they have to jostle for position and fight off those who would try to jump the line. I also would suggest better signage in several languages to explain the procedure. If you aren't doing the LED signs, the postal workers could lend a hand more often, and place people in the proper order in line. They could also answer questions and engage those waiting to handle issues BEFORE they reach the counter rather than later. We noticed a number of people who weren't prepared and shouldn't even have been waiting in line. There were others who just had simple questions. One employee can't both process and manage the throng waiting outside. Once we were helped, we were in and out in probably about 3 minutes, which made me realize that the long wait wasn't because of the passport application worker - it was because people weren't coming to the counter with their paperwork completed or there were other problems. Until their system improves, I would suggest making an appointment a different passport application office. read more

Came here to renew my passport and it was a fairly fast process. You go there, sign up, fill out a form, they call you, process your info and then you're done. I would say the process took about an hour for me with probably 5 people ahead. Very standard procedures. The man helping me was very helpful since I didn't really come prepared. But I had no problems thank god! Can't wait to get my passport and start planning those travels. :) Also, they're open a little later than most post offices so that's a def plus! read more

PASSPORT REVIEW // I'll start by saying that this location has a walk-in system, so there are no appointments needed, and they process around 30 people per day. I'll warn you now-- you'll need to commit a biiiig chunk of your day to this. I ended up spending a total of 8 hours there. (You can always leave and come back, but if you miss your name being called, you lose your spot.) The passport office opens at 10AM, but I arrived at 7:30AM. There was already a line of about 20 people ahead of me, and by 9:30AM, another 20 behind me. A few minutes before 10AM, George (the passport staff member) came out with a clipboard. He went down the line and we put our names down (I was #26). He guesstimated that he would get to me after his lunch break-- around 2PM. I proceeded to walk around, shop, sit, read, and repeated this until about 3PM. Eventually, my name was called at 3:15PM. George was incredibly personable and very efficient-- I was in and out of his office in 15 minutes! The worst part of this experience is the waiting. But, if you're in a time crunch, I highly recommend the Eastridge USPS! read more

I would give this place negative stars if you could. A while ago had to mail a package back to a company and it appears as if someone at this post office stole the package. I had tracking information on it, and on it it showed they received the package from me and that was it, no more movement on it, luckily i purchased insurance on the package. Once a week or so had passed with no movement we started calling and no one really cared, just told us to wait longer. Finally we got passed on to another location that investigates this sort of thing, and round and round it went, passing me from one place to another. The whole process just to get my money back on the insurance was a hassle, they didn't want to pay it out after it was clearly gone. It took about two months to get this resolved In the end I had to write the Post Master and Congressman of my district just to get my money back. To bad too since I used this place a good amount of time since it is open late and that was convenient. So beware if you are mailing something with any value here it might end up missing, and trust me you don't want to go through the headache of dealing with the post office on this sort of thing. read more

Came to get my passport today (first timer), but i knew what i was in for(a long wait )after reading several reviews . In the end it wasn't too bad for me . I got here at 11 am ( a little later than i wanted to arrive ) there was a couple of people ahead of me when i got here , i believe i was number 30 on the waiting list (oh yeah make sure you sign in ,that is the order they will call people in ! sign in sheet was hanging right by the door ) but i ended up leaving by 2:20 pm and that was only because they take an hour lunch at 1pm and return until 2pm, but i was the first to get called from the waiting list after the lunch break (had a group of ladies not cut before the lunch break i would have been done faster !) but overall not too bad of a wait , since i live pretty close so i got to enjoy thanksgiving leftovers while i waited for the hour break to be over :) . They take cash, checks and card which is convenient ,i chose the 6 week delivery method since i am not in a rush & my total was 163.20 , also i didn't get a chance to print my application that i filled out online prior to my visit :/ , but they do have some paper applications on site that you can fill out while you wait ! just make sure to have all your documentation ready and your application thoroughly filled out for faster processing :). My experience applying for first time passport on a Saturday: My brother needed to get his passport so we were forced to come to the closest. I read the reviews and had all my documentation ready to go. We get there around 5:15am and there are already a couple people. They had made a list already. It was sooo cold soo remember to bring an extra sweater or blanket. We waited inside our car until a janitor opened the door around 7am. Once inside everyone pretty much stayed in the order of the list. Around 8am / 9am more people started to arrive. We got in line and we were 7th in line. We took into consideration some applicants may have 4-5 applications so we knew this was good. The people in line were friendly and we chatted. By the time they opened at 10am, an employee came out with the official list. The people who arrived first tried to give her the list, but she said she wasn't going off it. People out of no where cut in line and added themselves to the official list. WTF ! We managed to get number 23 after being #7 in line. Others that were waiting in line with us, unfortunately were asked to leave as they only took 50 applications that day. The lady before us was called and she was out in less than 30 seconds. We figured she forgot some documents as she went without the father of the children she was with. They called our number next around 11:45ish and we were out in less than 10 minutes. The employee was very nice and sweet to us. Huge tip: Have all your documents ready to go!!! Faster service. If people have questions, help them. The faster they go, you will go. Overall, we took 8hours for 10 minutes of their time. I think there should be a electronic sign up sheet already available. People tried to make the process faster by creating a list, but the employee did not want to honor the list (which was pretty accurate as they asked how many applications they were going to need). read more

I JUST waited 2-3 hours to get my passport done but the man refused to do ours because it was "5" o clock and he's closing, even though I was the LAST person in line. He tells me to return tomorrow at 10 but you see that's an issue because I have school and Saturday classes. I was literally on the brink of years and he STILL refused. It's all about location, location, location! Being located in Eastridge Mall, they open and close at the same time as the mall does. It's really convenient when all the other postal offices close so early. They are even open on Sundays! What other post office do you know that's open on a Sunday? The other awesome thing about this place are the super helpful and friendly staff. They are always giving me advice on how to ship things in the least costly method--saving me tons of money! This one time, I was going to ship a couple of paperback books in a bulky cardboard box, but when I went to the counter the postman looked at me like I was crazy! He suggested that I ship my books in their durable, Tyvek envelope instead. It ended up saving me a whole $20! The only downside to this place is that the lines can get pretty long...but that goes for every post office. read more

Passport "renewal" - I had to apply for a new passport because of my age. 19 years old, no drivers license, passport application review-July 2nd, 2016 on a Saturday. -the post office is to the right of JC penny. I made the mistake of going to Tomi's and Red robin first. If you do this, head right facing the door. I came to the front door area at 5 a.m. and there were 9 people in front of me (I'm #10). The first person who came had a piece of paper where you can mark what place you're in, I'm assuming others will do the same. COME AS EARLY IF NOT EARLIER THAN 5 a.m!!! If u want to suffer come any later than that trust me. I sat on the floor, and a spider nearly took my life. Bring a chair if u ain't got a nice booty. Bring a jacket unless you're immune to runny noses in the cold. The mall opens at 6 and there's a bench area that can fit a few people. I went inside the empty post office instead to use my phone and charge it in one of the outlets there. Bring some entertainment (book, laptop, phone) or whatever to keep yourself busy. The post office opens at 10:00 a.m. At 9:50 the manager/worker took out a clipboard and started taking names down. It's VERY important that you're here during this time because he took the list made by #1 and started reading names off of it. If there's no premade list, the manager will write names from the line starting from the bench out into the hall. If you miss this ur gonna be sad. At like 10:05 was when the passport processing began. #1 was hella prepared and got out of there in 5 minutes. #2-7 can suck a fat phallic object. Why the f do you not have your forms filled out. Dirty rat merchants the whole lot of em. I got called up at 11:42. I got out 11:48. Have your documents ready! Go to travel.state.gov or passportinfo.com to get straight up solid lists of these documents. It's super easy and fast. You lazy fools. Also there's a ton of DS-11 and DS-other one forms ready so you can fill them out with your OWN PEN while you wait a few hours For me, I did not have my drivers license so I used 5 different id forms with my name on it. My permit, school ID, Selective service, etc. PHOTOCOPY YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE OR 5 SECONDARY ITEMS, they will collect it. They didn't even need my birth certificate because my expired passport counts as "citizenship". So I spent all that searching for nothing. Total bill was $196.XX for expedited 3 week or less delivery. The manager guy is super nice, patient, and fast. Be considerate of others and they'll be considerate of you. read more

Re: Passport Services The process sucks big time, I hear chances are better downtown but you need appt. Post Office apps were for June. We needed to attend as a family on a Saturday since a few of us work during the week, both parents had to be present for a minor & we needed expedited services. I showed up at 7am on Sat 4/4 & there was already a line of 20+ people The guy & gal at the front of line showed up at 330a & 430a! Its totally worth getting up that early to be out by 1030a, otherwise your stuck all day. My experience: Waited from 7am until 10am just to sign up "Waiting List" for the day. (available slots for today: 80!) EACH person applying takes a slot, so it fills up quickly. My 3 kids were #77-79, (Good news: we just slipped it / Bad news: I waited ALL day) The line had tripled, EVERYONE after the lady behind me had to go home. So, if you show up after 7am, chances are you won't get in. I went home, showered & was back by 2p to keep an eye on the list. They closed at 4p but we were called at 410p & done by 430p for 3 applicants. Pretty quick once in since I had all paperwork & documents to apply for "New" passport. Lady was really nice & helpful (she is the only reason I give 2 stars) Hints: The number of slots depends on how many workers & machines are up and working. So could be 20, 40, 80 slots...you won't know until that day at 10am. PLEASE, have all your paperwork pre-filled & documents on hand. Accepts M.O., Check or ATM (we paid via ATM card) Relax, it's an ugly process, so getting worked up won't help you or others. Take a buddy in case you have to go potty. Take a folding chair, blanket, snacks, water, book & charger. There is a charging station by escalator. Make an appt! read more

Hands down one of the faster and friendlier post offices that I've been to in my life. The employees here are probably the same employees that have been working here for the past 10 years, but they always seem to have a positive attitude about their jobs. Even if there are long lines, the lines seem to pass by fairly quickly and I usually end up getting my business done within 15 minutes of entering this post office. The employees are always helpful and most of the time help me out in a jokingly fashion. They also try to always save me money whenever I am sending out packages or letters. read more

A post office in a mall just doesn't work very well due to parking. It's really hit or miss in terms of customer service. Some of the representatives are friendly and courteous...some are rude. The line can be very long and slow. They have a self -service kiosk which is a nice option when the line is long. I haven't used their passport service, but it appears to be chaotic as heck. The Priority Mail packaging located towards the back is usually well stocked. Parking can be a pain depending on the time of year and day. read more

Heard about how easily it gets crowded so came early at 5:30am on a Tuesday. There were 5 people in front of me. After 7:30-7:45 about 20-25 people lined up behind me. At around 9:30, a few of the people in front of me brought their families to the line. 10:00am, George came out and put us on the list. Took up to 40 people. Ended up as number 13. It seemed like 2 people were working at first but then it was just one by 10:30. Got called around 11:50, thank the lord! NOTE; please come prepared. Complete your ds-11 at home. If you see people in front of you, tell them to fill out a form too! (Plenty of forms there at the counter.) Came ready with my old passport, DS-11, payment, ID, etc. Finished in 8 minutes. (Yes the guy behind me timed me). Line and wait sucked but George was a pretty chill dude. He likes to talk about your trip but try not to engage in a lengthy conversation cause people are waiting. This place is always busy because it's open late. This really works for me especially because I need to mail work shipments all the time. I also mail personal items here and even if the staff isn't always erratically happy to see the slums with attitudes, they have ALWAYS been helpful to me. Then again I'm not angry when I have to wait in line or wait my turn or when I'm corrected by the staff. read more

US Post Office - Post Offices Near Me - San Jose, California

Gotta love a post office that is open 7 days a week and has ample parking (thanks to the fact that they are in Eastridge Mall). The staff is professional and efficient, even with international packages. Definitely a great place for all of you online sellers and folks who work long Silicon Valley hours during the week. read more

I had to mail a package, so I'm not commenting on the passport section. It was closed when I was there anyway. The Good: Mall hours. Plenty of parking. Friendly window clerk. The Bad: Only one clerk on a Sunday morning. It took her 20 minutes to help three customers. No posted hours anywhere, in case you came at the wrong time. They aren't open on holidays, unlike the mall. Found that out the hard way. The self service machine is NEVER working so don't plan on using that to escape the lines. The Ugly: The place was FILTHY. The floors were a mess with trash on the ground and mud/dirt on floors. The trash cans looked like they hadn't ever been cleaned. Lighting was low so it seemed very depressing there. We got there first thing in the morning so obviously no one cleans the place on a regular basis. It was embarrassingly dirty. It doesn't seems that anyone cares. This places is open Monday-Sunday! How can you beat that. Granted, you will have to wait in line. If you're going on the weekend or after 6pm you may have to wait longer than 15minutes. I rented a P.O.Box here and I love that I will always have access to the box as long as the mall is open. Originally, I placed my name on a waiting list and was called within the same week saying that there was an opening. The boxes here are a bit more expensive than others around the city but its ok. I live out of the city, work a distance away, but this is the utmost epicenter of everything that my family does; so you can't beat time flexibility. read more
