I've used the post office for most of my life 52 years with barely an issue. But in the two years moving to this area they have managed to: - lose 3 Priority packages on 3 different occasions - deliver a Priority package 2 months late with only 1/3 of the contents intact and the box completely destroyed - after getting a pickup notice, make you wait in line for 30 minutes to tell you they can't find your package I've never seen so many pissed off customers (rightfully so) experiencing such incompetence. The Manager on this location was great. He wanted to make sure the customers arent waiting long. But to yell at his staff in front of the customers is way too much.. It was appalling to a point where he was embarrassing his staff. One worker hasnt wasnt done with her breaktime but yet she was asked to go back to work and another was hasnt taken her lunch yet but the manager was pushing her to stay since there was a long line.. Out for delivery last Saturday early in the morning then poof, package disappeared. If your package gets route to this location, have your fingers crossed because they magically disappear. And if your package is not insured, sorry that's the end of the line for you. The customer service will send you an automatical email saying that they recognized your package is lost and that's it. read more

I have had two packages "disappear" when their tracking had them arrive at this location recently. This USPS location should be investigated; there are fare too many reviews on here complaining about packages "disappearing" when arriving here. I wish you could ask the have your mail routed away from this location. On top of that many of the employees are rude. Today when I went to enquire about a package that had arrived at the location a week ago I was told repeatedly that the package was out for delivery. I ask to see this information and the clerk refused to show me anything actually showing that. When I pulled out my phone and popped the tracking number in, there was nothing about the package being out for delivery, only updates that I had inquired about it multiple times. This usps is so ghetto, the workers here all give attitude when assisting... and I mean, maybe if you stop focusing on being sassy and focus more on getting these boxes and envelopes moving then maybe the lines wouldn't be as long as they are. Then you when you confront them about it they act like scared hamsters at the pet store when you tap on the glass and they see a giant face looking at them... I literally despise coming here but I have to unfortunately because it's in my zip code... But I highly recommend the one on Ellsworth in downtown San Mateo... it looks amazing and the people working there actually give a shit about helping you. Scheduled an appointment to renew my passport, and the woman who was supposed to help my party was 30 minutes late. She had already been at the office before my appointment, but she just decided not to attend the scheduled appointment! Other staff members had to tell her to come multiple times before she actually came. When she finally came, she seemed more focused on helping a random person with a package instead of anyone with an actual appointment. There was already a line at of people who had appointments after me, but we all had to wait. Why is this post office always so busy? And why, oh why, must my packages get delivered here? No matter the time of day, this parking lot is always full and inside there's a line. Granted, the line moves quickly and there are usually 2-3 employees working the front desk, but still... WHY? Actually, I do know one answer: old people. When I say old people, I mean people that could be cast in a Med Alert bracelet commercial - you know the one: "I've fallen! And I can't get up!" Anyway, there seems to be a lot of old people here with all sorts of questions. And kudos to the staff for being so patient and kind with those senior citizens. It's definitely not the best post office I've ever been to, but certainly not the worst. I would give negative stars if I could! This has got to be the worst possible location in the country! They have never ever ever answered their phone!....you could call 40 times in one day and they will never answer. Convinced they turn the volume off and just let it go. Then if they understand you when you go there they are OK until you have a problem and then the evil side comes out even though you are the one getting screwed over. I think that most people would immediately groan at the thought of having to go to the Post Office; I would imagine they'd equate it to going to the DMV. By going into the post office with a negative attitude, you're just setting yourself up for a negative experience, which I do feel is the main reason why USPS receives such terrible Yelp reviews. I love going to the post office as USPS is what we rely on for shipping/delivering those important letters that contain important information and sentiments we wish to communicate and that digital media fails to do justice: thank-you notes, save-the-dates, holiday cards, and the ever rare love letter. Kudos if it's in cursive and on personalized stationery. Why did I need to go to the post office? Well, I received a surprise gift on Monday (you know who you are, thank you). Thanks to me taking forever in trying to draft my thank-you letter, I wasn't able to seal my letter until Wednesday and I wanted to have the card delivered by the end of the week. I wasn't sure which service would help me meet my deadline, so I got in line. If you have a choice as to which clerk to approach, find the middle-aged Indian lady with glasses whose name starts with a "P." She greeted me as I parted with my card and watched her set the envelope on the scale and punch in the zip code. "How do you want to send this out, my dear?" I inquired about First Class and she said that it'd take 3-4 days. I probably looked at her with a sullen look on my face because she followed up by saying that 2-day Priority would get my letter to its destination by Friday but that would cost $5.60. I let out a sigh followed by a "hmm..." "P" looked me and asked: "Well, let me ask you this: Is it important? How important is it?" And I stood in silence for about 30 seconds, before declaring that I wanted to go with 2-day Priority. A day or two (or three if we're counting the entire weekend) makes one hell of a difference. "So it IS important."I blushed. "Is it for a birthday?" Well no. "Is this for a boyfriend...?" Hah...not quite. "Love interest...?" with a cheeky grin. WHY CAN'T IT JUST BE A FRIEND? Sure. Let's go with that. She smiled as she placed my envelope inside a red-bordered USPS Priority window envelope, placed two stickers on it, and dropped it in her little bin. I paid the $5.60 and she handed me my receipt with the Delivery confirmation number. I thanked her for her help and graciousness, and I went on my merry way. I have yet to have a bad experience with this post office branch. Go in assuming you'll have to wait and that you'll just have to be patient, because you likely will. A super busy post office which is completely under-staffed and slow service. It is unfortunate that a national service provider cannot get its customer service and wait times in order to compete with the market. Long lines, extended wait times. CAUTION about Vacation Holds. There is no delivery process for this post office. You go online and put your mail on hold while on vacation. USPS sends you a confirming email and another email when the hold expires. It doesn't matter how you request your mail be delivered to you, the San Mateo office can't follow through. This is consistent and they have never gotten it right. You will have to make mulitple trips to the Delaware office and chase down your mail carrier. It helps if you know his/her route so you can find them. Your mail bounces back and forth between the carrier truck and the back office but never your home address. Also, at the post office, it's held by date and not by address so you won't get all of your mail with one visit. The lines are very long so be prepared. read more

I shipped a box from Phoenix to San Mateo and I also drove from Phoenix to San Mateo. I came here four times. Nobody knew where my box was. A few weeks later, my box was shipped back to Phoenix with an extra charge. I had to ask someone to pick up the box, pay the extra charge, and then ship it again via FedEx because I don't trust USPS anymore. read more

I visited the post office on a Saturday and there was a long line when I arrived. this review is strictly for their passport services: JUST DREADFUL! this office requires an appointment, but the phone rings with no answer or the line is continuously busy. i got fed up and walked in after three days of their phoneline being busy. when i finally talked to a person they only had appointments 6-8 weeks out. i got fed up and went to daly city instead. And what pissed me off, they don't even make any effort to hurry up and be a little faster. One lady was with one customer around 15 min and the other one was walking around so slow, singing songs. So here's the reasoning behind my 1 star review: I ordered clothes from a retailer online, and they give me a tracking number that's associated with FedEx. No problem, right? Except the day before I'm supposed to be expecting my package, the tracking information changes, and says that the package has arrived at a USPS facility. Oh great... See, USPS has a love-hate relationship with, well... just about everyone in America. I've been having trouble with USPS lately for some reason (Amazon has horrible communication with them), so I hope for the best. I received an email at 10:48am while I'm at work, and it's from FedEx telling me my package has arrived! Great!! Can't wait to get home. Packages are like Christmas morning, even though I know exactly what's inside, I still get a little excited every time I receive something in the mail. Unfortunately, I can't get home until 4:30. I check in with the property manager, and he tells me I haven't received anything yet. Strange, but I don't freak out just yet, since sometimes packages get delivered directly to our front door, even though I live in an apartment building. Unfortunately, the package was not in front of my doorstep. It also wasn't in the main entrance, it wasn't at the top of the stairs (where Amazon and UPS sometimes leaves packages), it was nowhere to be found! There hasn't been any theft when it comes to packages in our apartment building, but of course there is always a first time for everything. So now I'm angry and frustrated because I literally have no explanation for why my package is missing. What's a girl to do, right? Frantically trying to figure out who I'm supposed to call, I keep going through the tracking information, figuring that there must be some mistake. I decided to call this USPS branch, because I thought there was no use calling FedEx. I mean, once it's out of FedEx's hands, the responsibility should fall on USPS... right? It's 4:45pm, and the phone just keeps ringing, and ringing, and RINGING. Yelp says they close at 5pm, so why isn't anyone picking up the phone?! No results, unfortunately. So now I'm left packageless and desolate. In the morning, I left to go to work at around 6:00am. I open the door, and lo and behold, sitting in front of me was my goddamn package. What the....!? How is that possible? So some time between 5:00pm the night before and 6:00am that morning, my package got delivered?! How can you receive a confirmation of delivery without even having the package there? Apparently, I'm not the only person this has happened to. If the other reviews for this location are any indication of the policies and practices that are set in place for USPS, it's no wonder the organization is struggling. On top of that, this location has a horrible queue management system. Whenever I'm standing in line, there's usually only 2 people at the counter, and it takes me nearly 45 minutes to get through the line. My experience with this USPS almost was going to be a 1 star but Raphael went above and beyond ensuring I received my package. Long story short my package was incorrectly marked "delivered" and when trying to locate it, the sense of urgency and customer service did not feel like it was there initially when visiting the office. For context, I paid extra money for it to be delivered by a certain day as i needed it as a gift for a party. The package was to be delivered the day before the party. The whole reason I needed to speak to a person was that I work and therefore CAN'T pick a day that I will be home...for redelivery!!! So that was very circular but if there is one thing I have learned, the USPS does not mind inconveniencing you in the least. Anyway, they said I didn't need to sign and could leave it at my door. Fine. Except today (another package also Registered Mail) they said when I called that I have to sign. Inconsistent rules! Their phone system dropped the call, I have no idea if my package will be redelivered and it was the FINAL NOTICE. Why did I not call sooner? They didn't leave any notices for me on their previous TWO ATTEMPTS, so this is the first I've heard of it. I drive 5 miles out of my way to go specifically to this post office! Love all the staff here and have always been so helpful! But be patient! Post office workers are human too and they can't make things go any quicker than they usually are. I normally print my own labels and pay at home but I need receipts. They are very accommodating and patient with me as well! Word to the wise- don't ever go to the post office angry or in a hurry, it's first come first served or most easily served to get the line down and you out quickly. This review is solely based off the customer service provided by BING. I came in and waited in line for over 30 minutes. No biggie, we're all adults here and can wait patiently. As I got closer to the counters and my turn was coming up I can overhear many conversations and rude remarks. Being barely 5', I can't see much so I don't know which postal worker is being rude to customers. Until it's my turn, and just my luck I happen to hear a familiar voice. How'd I end up getting the rude postal lady?!?! So, she yells "next." Her window is literally the window right in front of the beginning of the line which less than 5' away, so I walk over and there she is yelling at me, "COME ON, HURRY UP! THERES A LINE. THERES LIKE 20 PEOPLE IN LINE," while pointing to the line that I've literally been standing in for the past 30+ minutes. I tell her, "Thats how you greet us? You're very rude. What is your name?" She didn't tell me her name but I read her badge. Shes just sitting there mumbling and complaining all while entering the info from my mail slip. (Which I could barely understand because of her broken English.) Everyone in line did a huge, "sign" when she heard the way she yelled at me to hurry up and get to her window. So I turned around and asked everyone in line. "Was I being slow?" The first 3 people laugh and answer, "no." The man behind me says, "Not at all shes just in a bad mood." The guy who was ahead of me in line who was also "helped" by Bing answers, "shes just cranky." He waited in line for the same amount of time as me only for her to refuse to help him because he was dropping off a package and he should have used the 1st window (where the swinging door is and was literally less than a 5min wait the entire time I was in line.) He told Bing how was he supposed to know that if there was no sign posted for package drop offs. She moved him along to the 1st window with her attitude. Anyways, back to me! I had two envelopes which needed to be sent certified. As a responsible adult and trying not to hold up the line anymore I went ahead and filled out my mail slips ahead of time while in line and here Bing is in her state of anger asking me where my 2nd mailing slip is and yelling at me asking me why I didn't fill out a 2nd slip for the 2nd envelope. I tell Bing my slip is filled out and its literally right in front of her. Bing was so angry that she was shaking and couldn't even correctlyplace my mailing slip in her little printer. As I was entering in my pin # to pay Bing calls over the lady next in line to help her. Again, Bing tells for the lady in line to hurry up. I finish up paying and I waiting for my receipt (i need my tracking number) and I tell Bing, "I know you're overwhelmed but we have all been waiting here patiently with zero complaints so I suggest you change your attitude..." Bing being the lovely postal worker she is she cuts me off and says, "Yeah. Yeah. Is there something you can do here to help us? No. So go!" The male postal worker sitting at the window next to her witness all her attitude and my interaction with Bing. The customer next in line told him, "Thank God I got your window and not hers." The postal worker laughed and agreed. Customer tells him, "just because shes in a bad mood doesn't mean she can take it out on the customers." He agreed with the customer. So here you are, Bing. Today, I went to pickup some passport applications for my kid and Need to ask a quick question and there are few other folks also want to ask the questions. One African lady starts to yelling at me to go wait at where the windows are and then let us wait more and finally loudly yelling come over. While I was going to ask her the question, she does not only look at me but talking to another person about pickup. By the way the package pick up and the passport lines are the same???? why???? Then she dismissed me asap. Where is the customer service ? Just because you are government worker, it does not mean you can lack of customer service. Your salary is paid by tax payers. What happen to America old fashion way of service???? Just because we are not white and new to the country does not mean you can shuffle us like that. This has to be one of the worst service companies in the United States, and the Country sue them for defamation. I am all for giving people opportunity to work, but it seems to me that the postal service hires people with little customer service understanding and little English language ability. You go into this post office you'll loose an hour of your life, even for the simple things. Don't they train their people? No freaking wonder U.S. Postal Service is going bankrupt. I hardly ever use the post office since I've had so many bad experiences with them and I try to avoid at all cost. However, my boss asked me to drop off some packages specifically at the post office because they have the book rate. First off, the lines where looooong even thought they they had 4 people working and they still couldn't figure it out. I attempted to buy some of their packaging material but it was to unorganized and so lacking, I decided to go to K-mart to buy a box and tape there. And the worse part of it all; the one employee that helped me out seemed to hate her job, herself and every single customer she "helped" out. After giving her my company card she started to question me about the card, question me about the package, question me about the zip code.. Worst post office I've ever dealt with and I've lived all over the country. I've lived here for a year and had an issue with about 50% of my packages that have been sent or received through this office. Whether they're lost for weeks in the back room, broken, or just forgot to deliver, the employees on the phone will always tell you the manager isn't there and tell you when to call back. Then when you call back they say the manager was in earlier and left already, then when you go in person it's the same story. UNLESS you make a scene and then they'll get a supervisor who have also been no help. These are the most INCOMPETENT USPS employees ever, they either don't know anything or they don't want to work so they lie to you and try to get you to handle as much on your own as possible. I needed a damage report done for an international package and was told to go home and do it online. I went home and googled it and USPS.com says it must be done in the office in person, so I go back and the supervisor says he'll take care of it. A week later and nothing. We've tried leaving a number to have supervisors call back about 10 times now and they've never called back. I DESPISE DEALING WITH MY MAIL NOW BECAUSE OF THIS POSTAL DEPARTMENT. read more

This is probably the worst post office I've been to in a long time. Frustrating is probably the best word to describe. Nothing against the people themselves but the organization leaves a lot to be desired. This place is always busy at the times I've visited, be it weekend or weekday and in the mornings and in the afternoons. Part of this I am sure is due to the slow speed and lack of impetus. Fair enough - not necessarily the most exciting job in the world. We got a notice saying that a package has been delivered to the leasing office and you can collect it from there. I have no issue with that, except when you go to the leasing office and they say they have not received any packages. Odd. So off to the post office I went to find the package which presumably must still be there. The slip that was left was too cryptic for even them to understand so they were not able to find it, the manager guessed it was being redelivered at that moment, even though the slip said delivered to leasing office the day before. So head back to the leasing office and asked the post carrier whether they had any packages as they happened to be at the mailboxes. No idea was the response. Went to the leasing office again and they said just delivered! I'm not exactly sure how the delivery slip can arrive 2 days before the actual package but that's what happened! read more

Things I liked: - Cool mural of old timey California activities that include bear/bull fighting! - Cool old timey brass bars covering the windows that should have tellers behind them, but didn't. - Tellers who are nice despite having to deal with the awful, ungrateful public all day. Things I did not like: - The general lack of giving a shit about how their shipping supplies and information were presented. - The general lack of organization. - The man in line in front of me who was a total ass to the woman in front of him because she failed to adhere to his "post office protocol" Going to the post office is generally a rather tedious endeavor and I don't think I've ever gone to one that I would have rated above 3 stars but I feel like the San Mateo branch could put in just a smidge more effort. Try to avoid this location at all costs! February 25th I mailed 5 bills for my elderly mom at this location, and none of them ever arrived. After spending time calling all of the various businesses trying to persuade them to waive the late fee I decided to go in and let the manager know what had happened. This location is a hot mess! I never had a chance to speak to Ron the manager because he was busy with another couple that wanted to know what happened to their mailed bills that never made it to their location. Opened a stamps.com account and wanted to purchase a label to ship a package back to a customer I purchased from. Put money into an account and decided to print a balance in letter postage and then close my account as I have no use for it. Got a charge on my CC for 35.98 for 2 months service cost, called and found out it cost me 18 + or - a month, so I have an account balance of 16.41 and requested to close my account. The Customer rep argues there is on 11.41 in my account, argued and got no where. I'm a small person but getting screwed by the big boy's, I would not advise someone that does not do a lot of postage to use this service and if you that does a lot of postage watch your account as they take what they want without a explaining why read more
