Definitely recommend for drop in passport hours! Called into the office beforehand to confirm if the office is still taking drop in passport renewals because some offices close for a few days of the month. The hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 - 11:00 AM and 12:30 - 4 PM but be wary that they will most likely cut off the line around 10:30 AM and again at 3:30 PM. I got in at 10:40 AM but they had already cut off the line so I returned at 12:10 PM to wait in line. They started serving people at 12:30 PM and I was third in line. I had all my documents ready and was out in 15 minutes. Pretty helpful and friendly staff and service was a plus. Overall, very efficient and not too bad of an experience besides the long drive. Tip: Avoid Monday's, especially in the morning, since they are the most busy during that time. Also, please read the passport website and have the forms, proof of identity and residence, copies of all, and passport photo ready! It's incredibly frustrating how many people showed up and didn't fill out any of the forms or have copies so it held up the line and makes everyone have to wait a long time! read more

Do yourself a favor and find another branch. This is the closest one to my house and I avoid it whenever possible. The clerks at this location, with one stalwart exception (she's a tall, softspoken middle-aged woman with long hair. She's awesome.), offer consistently poor service. They are slow, rude, and irritated by what you bring to their counter. I've had mail needlessly sent to my return address, and packages that are never scanned so tracking is unavailable until it's in another district. I ordered a package from Amazon & wasn't there to pick it up (I live in a newly duplexed downstairs unit & can't hear knocks at the door or the doorbell) and the online tracking system told me that "Delivery had been attempted" so I went down to this Post Office a few days later to pick it up. I was making small talk with an elderly woman next to me in line about her (really cool) glasses & the clerk seemed both incapable of smiling & annoyed that people around her weren't. The guy working next to her was friendly enough to make up for it, though. Regardless, my package was nowhere to be found in their backstock/warehouse/where ever they say people's shit will be when it's not. The clerk went to fetch the manager because she wasn't sure what to do. I was excited at first because the manager immediately showed my a picture of my package with my name and address on it, so I assumed they must have it here. However, she was quick to inform me that they did not have the package. I asked where it could be other than here -- not to attack her or anything, but because I honestly wasn't familiar with the procedures for missing packages. She looked at me and widened her eyes cartoonishly & shook her hands up: "I don't have all the answers!! Am I supposed to make it magically appear??" When I asked if I could change the default delivery method to be drop-off rather than having the driver take the package back to the USPS station (since that hadn't worked too well for me clearly) the manager seemed genuinely offended and kept repeating "Sure, sure!!" in an increasingly sarcastic tone. I didn't mean to rustle her jimmies, I honestly just wanted to have our packages dropped off from now on. She then has me write this down and sign it on a piece of nearby scratch paper so that it's "official". After pushing my way through all of the sarcastic remarks & "young man"s, I'm informed that unless I purchased insurance for my package, USPS is in no way responsible for what happens to it. She told me to contact the seller to see what happened and I reminded her that they had a picture of my package, so they must have been possession of it at some point. She then says "there might not be a happy ending" & informed me that they were closing. read more

I've been using this branch for about five years because it is very close to my home. I'm giving them two stars because only two out of the five people working the front desk area are nice or helpful. Most of the people that work here seem to be in a really rough mood. I know, government work in a declining economy, but I don't think it's an excuse to be rude or condescending. To avoid the long lines, which really sucks when you only have metered parking available to you -- I try to use the Do-It-Yourself Postage Machine. Which also works about only two out of the five times I use it. The screen freezes a lot, buttons will just NOT WORK, or it gives you bad scale readings causing for insufficient postage. I've complained that it can be as much as 8-10oz off and nothing seems to change. In the same breath, I think the scales at the "people counter" are rigged to be higher than what your package really is. I've weighed boxes at home and on the Do-It_Yourself machine, get same reading. Work with a person, and it's much higher. So if you actually get quotes for shipping packages to invoice a person, pick one and stick with it. And just to round it out, I've had FOUR very important documents get lost in the mail this year alone. Even with Delivery Confirmation (waste of money), the items are not found. Only once have they been willing to comp the charges for having to resend something, again, with Signature Confirmation. Not sure why this location is such a black hole? read more

I felt very sad when I saw the fence that was recently put up around the post office. I see no construction happening as the signs indicate. It seems to me that the fence was put up to keep homeless persons from sleeping on the porch. These members of our community have come to rely on the library porch on cold and rainy days, having few other sheltered options. If there were issues with this situation, couldn't they have been solved some other way besides taking this drastic and unkind measure. I have always loved the post office and friendly staff, but now I feel only sad. On another equally important note. A heavily insured registered mail package was sent to me from New York. This is supposed to be the most secure form of delivery - postage was $125 - and requires that the recipient sign for it. But my package was left outdoors on a picnic table. No one was asked to sign. I was extremely upset and called to report this and the report was taken - but this never should have happened!!!!! and does not leave me feeling confident about the safety of the mail service. read more

The only reason I come to this post office is to ship things I sell on Amazon. They have flat rate priority shipping which is cheap and I can send my stuff out no problem. The lines are terrible in here. Always long. I get stamps at my ATM and nobody writes letters anymore. Hope you don't get shut down due to the USPS as a whole being broke bitch. P.S. The Santa Cruz postal service is the worse run business in the area, state, and maybe entire country. Packages marked as delivered never are to be found or seen again. Packages are not delivered due to personnel being overloaded and being forced to lie about the reason to avoid getting fired or working huge overtime. We have found packages just tossed on the side of our private road. Often packages are not delivered and a pink slip is put in the box vs. putting them at our house. Who wants to drive downtown, find and pay for a parking spot, wait in line with overworked employees, and maybe get your package or not. Requests for re-delivery go unanswered and ignored. If you do drive to get your package and ask why not, you get the canned response: sorry for your troubles. I don't blame the employees as they are forced to work in a lousy environment. I blame the Postmaster General and management of the offices in the area. If there was a way to boycott the USPS I would and have packages delivered by other carriers. Unfortunately even if you can select UPS they may push it to USPS for final delivery. What a mess....... read more

We had a very good experience here getting our son's passport Highly recommend for drop-in Reached here around 8:45 am, plenty of parking spots in the front [metered parking] and there is a public parking garage too Only 1 person ahead of us. No matter how many times I complain to this downtown post office that their postal carriers do not pick up the packages they never fix the problem. I call the Post office and they lie to me on the phone telling me my package will be delivered. The next day a new key is there and the locker is empty. What kind of stupid game is going on here. Review is for Santa Cruz, Natural Bridges Area. Packages are normally left at my front porch--no problem but NOT TODAY. After checking my Amazon account, all expected orders were noted "packages left inside resident's mailbox." Not possible, some items were large and would not fit. I checked my front porch, nothing. I went out to the mailbox (which is located at the curb, right on the street) and couldn't believe that all the packages were LEFT ON THE GROUND AT THE FOOT OF THE MAILBOX!!! Post Offices suck. The reason being everyone is in a hurry, grouchy, and bitter. I notice this in almost EVERY Post Office I have been to! This location on the other hand got an extra star for the friendly lady that helped my friend and I. We didn't bring tape to tape the box that we wanted to ship out. She gladly gave us tape and was so kind about it! She was the most upbeat person of that office! Her friendliness really brought up the mood of the office itself. It makes me want to go back, and when I do be helped by her! Besides the friendly service from that one lady, the lines get really long at the Post Office, but at least they have more than 2 people working at a time..it helps the line move quicker. read more

It's usually pretty backed up when I go in, but as it's the main post office for the city (/county?), it offers everything you need and is pretty well-used. It's in an older city building that's pretty neat. Not much parking around it, but you can find spaces if you look. I have to say; I've never seen anything like it! The counter employees at the Front Street location weigh my PREPAID package every time I visit the counter. I have now been overcharged for the second time. Another grievance I have is the tape issue. Yes, people...don't expect free tape! We all know that, but I've incidentally needed tape to secure a package and while they offer tape to some customers, they're very reluctant to extend the same 'courtesy' to me. They, in fact, suggest I purchase a whole new roll of tape. No problem except, I have tape at home. The tape at the PO is horrible quality and overpriced for the amount you get. Yes, I purchase, have and use my own shipping tape at home. The (USPS Mailer) box I used has a peel and stick strip flap that on this occasion didn't adhere to itself. So, I'm to buy a roll of tape for a box that has a faulty, or damaged self-strip? I suppose they expected me to ship the box wide open, or make an additional purchase beyond shipping. The attitude at this location is insufferable. No matter what, I WILL be certain to bring my own tape just in case. Currently, I've two overcharges on my debit card to straighten out. Have withheld a package meant to arrive to me about a week ago. When asked in person the day after it's expected arrival, they told me it would be delivered in 4 days. It's been 5 days and absolutely no word from them. Package contained harmless houseplant cuttings that will DIE due to their continual withholding of my package. Absolutely DREADFUL. I'm at amazed at the complete lack of empathy or professionalism at this location. I've been trying to get my sons birthday presents and they keep indicating the business address I work at is closed when they attempt to deliver. This is a complete LIE. It is open to 7pm at night and the last attempt was 6:28pm. I tried to call the post office at 4pm but the line said it was closed when it is in fact open to 5pm. I can't complain to anyone, no one cares, it's a MESS. We have -0- issues with Fed Ex, UPS, OnTrack and DHL. If someone from the US government ever reads this, can you please do something. Each and every package we have sent through this US Post facility, without getting a printed receipt, has disappeared. The only thing the counter employees could do was ask me for proof of mailing. A tracking number means nothing, if they have not received it into their computers. So I made it a point to request a printed receipt each time i sent something out, so I can prove to my customers we actually mailed their purchase. Eventually, the counter employees did not even want to print them, saying that I just had to hand them the box. DO NOT do that!!! You have no proof you mailed it. NEVER USE FOR PACKAGE DELIVERY. I have attempted to get a package delivered through this service twice now, and both times my package has ended up somewhere other than the directed address, this time it is in an entirely different city. CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR USPS AT LARGE IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. I've been on hold for around 48 minutes, twice. Both times a man with an extremely heavy accent answered the phone, and both times took about 6 minutes just to understand what I was telling them (simply that my package was delivered to an incorrect address), and then had nothing to tell me except that someone else would call me after about 72 hours. The first time that call never came. I'm currently waiting for the second call. read more

No delivery slip provided upon attempted delivery, and then when I tried to pick up the package as per customer instructions, it was nowhere to be found at the post office. Waited 20 minutes to be told that package was out for delivery and they could not contact their drivers. Manager stated that package would be delivered immediately to the home - and 1 hour later - still no package to be found anywhere. Waited another 25 minutes (on hold) on the line to follow up via phone, and eventually just hung up. Unable to follow instructions, unable to manage customer expectations and truly inefficient. I'm hoping this experience was a one off. It was one of the most inconvenient and frustrating experiences I have had - in picking up a package. Not sure it actually has to do with the Front street location,but somewhere in the system something is not right. Have had several packages show up damaged (usually domestic packages from relatives, not amazon packages). The latest one literally looks like someone slashed through it--the box actually tore in half. The previous one was squashed down from the top-maybe u could fit a fist in there-? One never showed up becuz they said it was a gaited community, which it is not. Not sure if the post office can get a handle on this. The delivery people at this post office need serious training. I swear to God they don't know what the number 5 looks like. I have had about 10 packages delivered to the wrong apartment since I moved in. It's almost as if they just put the packages in random mailboxes. My packages sometimes show up at my door mysteriously a week after it was "delivered" or the apartment office has to call me and tell me they have my package that was misdelivered. Sometimes I will never get my package at all. I ordered a guinea pig cage from amazon weeks ago and it has not turned up so I guess someone in my apartment complex or the post office needed a new guinea pig cage too. I don't know if these workers just don't give a damn about their job or if they're just completely incompetent but either way something needs to be done. read more

I think in general that Post Offices are similar to DMV Offices - seems to be a high stress job, and all of those ugly flourescent lights can't possibly help. I'm writing this review because my experiences in the SC Post Office have been pretty positive. So many whiny self-important people on Yelp that think being charged a reasonable $5.00 to $20.00+ to send a package across the country entitles them to expect everything in their own pathetic wage-slave lives to be perfect. I have been here many times and the people working here are perfectly acceptable and helpful. There should be an IQ test for Yelp Reviewers. Also, if negative self-involved whiners understood anything in life, they would know that congress has made it hard for USPS to exist because they are required to pre pay future pensions as they go. If only I could leave zero stars. Sent a letter next day GUARANTEED delivery for 25 dollars. It didn't arrive next day, went to get a refund and the "supervisor", this young guy with brown hair, was rude dismissive and inept as he told me he refused to give a refund because it was marked as "no secure location available". It was a freaking letter and they have a mail box. I asked if a mailbox was considered a "secure location" to deliver a letter, he said it was. I said the recipient had a mailbox, so why would there not be a "secure location"... he said he can't issue a refund until the computer doesn't say there wasn't a secure location. he was totally unwilling to look into it and acted annoyed I wanted a refund. I appreciated the previous reviews for Mr. Passport. I didn't expect much, and I didn't get much, except a new passport. I love the old building and the artwork. The USPS experience for this office is much the same as anywhere; some good, some bad. Mr Passport may lack customer service skills, but he must take his job seriously. awful awful awful!!! I NEVER do reviews, but they left such a horrible taste in my mouth, I have too!! Supposedly attempted to deliver a package, but NEVER left a notice notifying me. I had to go online to track the package to get that info. Rescheduled a delivery online, they STILL didn't deliver my package. I called and customer service said it was signature only, plus couldn't reroute my package to my workplace where I'd be availble to sign for it. I asked if they could deliver Saturday since that was the only time I'd be home to sign the thing, they said no since that was the date scheduled BEFORE they send the package back (there sending it back Monday...like that makes any sense at all???). I will avoid using the USPS as much as I can...you'd think they'd try to accomodate a little more since everything is now electronic, not much use for them anymore. pffff... be gone USPS!! read more

I received a "Sorry We Missed You!" slip from the Front Street branch of the U.S. Postal Service, and the slip had a tracking number on it for a certified letter. I took the slip to the branch and attempted to pick up my certified letter, found that the postal carrier had scribbled the last three numbers of the tracking number so badly that the person at the branch could not read the tracking number, and so I could not pick up the letter. The person at the branch copied my slip, and said that he would find my letter. I went back 10 days later to check, and another counter person took another copy of my slip. It was like I had never gone there, this second person was starting the process over again! When I pointed out to the second person that I had called the U.S. Postal service's 800 number and inputted the numbers below the bar code from my slip onto the automated system, and the automated system quoted an arrival date at that post office branch, and asked if the bar code could be cross-referenced with my tracking number, the clerk told me that the bar code was "generic and didn't mean anything". I asked the clerk if she wanted to call the toll free number and verify what I was saying, she dismissed me and said, "I don't need to call the toll-free number". Long story short, I can't believe these people lost my certified letter, and it was something as simple as a scribbled tracking number-completely and unnecessarily fumbled. And on top of that, they lose the follow up documentation! I will never ship anything with a tracking number via the U.S. Postal service again, EVER! read more
