Long lines, phantom 'delivered' packages, and what feels like shady supervisor behavior wrapped in classic government indifference.

I like coming here as the lines seem to never be long. However, last weekend, I was going to go there to mail a package and could not get there. The city had blocked access to the post office during their Strawberry Festival. I found that inconvenient and frustrating. I also wondered if cities can legally do that. I later researched online and found that it definitely is illegal. The city would be required to have an alternative route to get there but they did not. It does not matter how popular an event is nor how crowded it gets, the US Post Office has to be accessible regardless. read more

This post office has been here a while and the population has probably increased since then. It's often crowded and slow (usually because customers have tons of questions and such) but the employees are polite and try to get things done as quickly as possible. The design of the drive thru mail drop was flawed from the beginning, the curve of the entrance is too tight for the average car. The parking lot is small as is the office inside. But they're making due with what they have. A remodel or move would be nice but unlikely. On a side note: If you're sending Priority Mail and the small flat rate box is a bit too small and medium is too big, try using the 9.5 x 12.5 priority bubble envelope. Made an appointment to get passport paperwork taken care of and this was the closest post office to me that had the soonest appointment. Had an excellent experience, everyone was super nice and friendly. Got the paperwork done and was out of there in less than 15 minutes :-) excellent for passport services Jimmy was great! read more

Grinch culture. Self important bureaucrats with attitude, just what I needed for Christmas. I arrived at 4:31. "We closed at 4:30" I thought I had 1/2 hour to spare. Not posted anywhere about e as self Friday closure I could see. I had two pre-paid prestamped packages. This office has no parcel mailbox unlike Aptos or Capitola. Please, I pleaded, its Friday. Additionally the hours posted say the lobby hours are until 6 PM but every day at 4:30 it's all locked up. Other locations in wealthier parts of town have better customer service. I really don't understand why my mail only get deliver 2-3 days and my packages don't get deliver at all. I'm really tired of their notifications in regard to delivery attempts : "delivery unsuccessful, no access to drive way. Unsuccessful no access to main door. I've had my mail delivery stopped and didn't get a notification until I went inside to the post office. So many supervisors but no postmaster. They won't give me my mail until I get a paid mailbox at the post office or get my mail forwarded which I did. Very rude obnoxious supervisors. I had to file a complaint and called Consumer Affairs. They have escalated my case. It's all due to my blocked mailbox and disrespecting the mailman after he refused to give several of our neighbors their mail. It's quite a story. But the mail delivery has been an ongoing problem for several years and they let the drivers do as they please. Call to complain. I have. Finally got a live person. Had to wait for a call back after an hour but it's worth the wait to finally have someone listen to you and build a case. read more

This office is a real bummer. I've never ever had issues with Mail Carriers in Santa Cruz they were always old school professional with great personalities. When I lived in San Francisco only the best. But the carrier we have now just seriously has it out for us. Maybe she just doesn't like us for the usual reasons ie. (we're a same sex couple) or maybe she just has something to prove but she just outright decided, unbeknownst to us, to stop delivering our mail. No notice. Nothing. We thought maybe it was the move but several visits to this station to find out we had a huge stack of mail waiting. When we tried to find out why she said we moved our mailbox. We did not. We pulled up google images from 2007 and 2011 and the mailbox was at the door. We were then told "those pictures could be manipulated". Ummm...no. I invite them to pull the google image up on their computer. Anyway, fast forward. We finally find out where we should put it just trying to follow her verbal rules (never a written notice) no matter how arbitrary and still get notices from informed delivery that our package is at the post office and we need to pick it up. It's really weird and intentional. Every other house, in every direction has a mailbox at their door. We're the only people required to follow different rules. It's discriminatory and wrong. I'd never treat people this way. You can't really fight the post office, right? It's like some lame power struggle. I seriously just want my mail but she just doesn't want to deliver to us. My mail get deliver really late at night and rarely do they skip a day but when they do it always have to be on the day I need something important. For example no mail today and that includes some packages that were stated as "Delivered" but haven't actually been delivered. One of them being an important medication for my dog. now we have to wait an additional day more and he needs it ASAP. The only reason I give 3 star is because there is one mail carrier (wish I knew his name) that seem to do his job right. Not like the younger one. He always knock when he delivers my packages. I have been trying to find out where they delivered a package to THIS TIME. I have a claim in for a package that was delivered to "someone in my neighborhood" (not the first time). The post office on the other side of the delivery (in Arkansas) was extremely helpful, first with the postal worker, then with her supervisor. WTF is going on with this post office? This is the 3rd time this month our carrier hasn't shown up to my place of business. Our outgoing mail doesn't get picked up. Incoming packages dont show up....totally unacceptable especially when we have important tax documents that need to be picked up. The first time this happened I was able to reach someone at the PO. They apologized and said they woudl tell our carrier we are a business and should get priority delivery. Since then its nothing but crickets when I call. This place sucks!!! Straight up!!! This branch use to be really reliable but ever since all the budget cuts this place has giving up!! Their customer service does not care about your issues or lost mail. I have called and complained several times about not getting the correct mail delivered in my box, not only that I am always missing mail and packages?? I once went in on a Saturday since they claim to open at 9am to pick up a package. The service door was closed but I noticed a bell to ring on the side of the door. I rang the bell the 1st time and I can tell it echoed thru the mail carriers area in the back and I waited for like 3 minutes and no one came, so I rang the bell a second time and I can hear people in the back talking about the upcoming weekend and plans but again no one showed up to the service door. I called the service phone number listed near the service door just to try to get some help and the funny thing is that I can hear the phone ringing on the other side of the service window door and nobody answered!! Even I had to laugh at that one but serious tho Imagine if I were in a hurry to pick up my package?? Good thing I wasn't!! It took the 4th ring of that bell before someone came up and when she did she had total attitude towards me. Lazy service...very slow & unenthused workers for such a big building. 2 checkers is equal to one becuz they move & act like sloths. I explained to the lady 3 times that, yes the package is fragile with cd's in the box and i gave her the zip code atleast 3 times so finally she pulls up the Options to send and offers me insurance but neglects tracking with label and the option to send media mail which costs 3 times less so i ask her and she says "media mail only covers books and cassette tapes"...so i remind her that these are music cd's and then she asks me again, "are these media music cd's?" I basically gave up and left after that when she tried to make me buy a shipping label...i've been shipping music cd's as a musician since 2001 and never had this much trouble...will not be visiting here again soon read more

The clerk who helped me out was extremely rude. I went to drop of a return and she raised her voice and pointed at everyone in the shop that everyone needs to tape the slip all around, I told her that that's all I had but she kept raising her voice at me and repeating what she just said loud enough to fill the room. In a calm demeanor I advised her that she shouldn't make examples out of people and single them out in front of everyone. She said she hadn't and yet was still being absurdly loud. I again told her that it's not fair to people to be made an example out off and she said "I'm not, you need to calm down," I told her that I wasn't the one raising my voice again in a calm manner. And she just kept telling me to calm down which was insulting because I was. I asked for her my receipt because I was done, there's was no way she could have seen where I'm coming from. And she didn't reply. I asked again and she said do you want you're reciept or are you going to be quiet. I was so stunned at her audacity. That I didn't even know how to respond. So I told her that I just wanted my receipt. And she said again "just be quiet. Are you going to be quiet?" I still couldn't believe she's said that again! I then asked her for her name. And she straight out said "you don't need to know that." Basically spitting it out at me. Then she ended up raising her arms as if fed up, wouldn't look at me after I kept asking for her name and then walked away from me. I asked the other clerks for her name. And they just looked at me in silence. I told them that she shouldn't raise her voice like that and they exclaimed that that's how she is. They didn't even apologize for her behavior. I pleaded with them for her name. And althrought out this ordeal I was still patient, and was not cutting anyone off as you can see in the video I recorded. But they gave me nothing. They asked me if I wanted to talk to a surperviser but he was already on his way out laughing in the back as if they were mocking me already and then he played that apologetic card. Pretended he was listening yet when I asked for her name he disregarded my question and said " I apologize, I'll have a talk with her." Which was absurd in and of itself as no one had to call him out he already knew this situation because they where just in the back laughing and talking about it. Her name is Valerie. His was James. I expected way more from a supervisor/ manager on duty but all I witnessed was a guy who had the audacity to pretend to be truly apologetic. Did not bother listening and sounded like broken record trying to tell me he will talk to her. Terrible customer service. From everyone on here, including the one Asian woman and Mexican lady. All and all her attitude was completely uncalled for and unprofessional. It was not courteous and rather abrasive. She had no patience and the fact that she kept interrupting me when I was trying to voice my concerns in an adult manner was alarming. She degraded me by telling me to be quiet as if I was the one imposing. I was extremely disappointed with the other staff. It's a wonderful trait to stick up for your co workers but when you blindly stick up for them when they were completely in the wrong was really disheartening. It was rather unprofessional to hear James laughing in the background moments before he came out, he wasn't aware how that seems from a guest perspective. No one called him so I knew he was talking to Valerie's otherwise why would he have been at the ready to step out. He then laughs incredibly loud as you can hear him coming from the back, it's as if they were mocking me and they didn't have the decency to wait for me to leave the store. Then telling me that he would talk to her, it was not sincere at all and he didn't seemed particularly concerned that I was quite upset. I asked him for her name but he didn't listen and repeated that he would talk to her. This was small but enough to tell me he wasn't listening either. So I had to repeat myself. This whole situation was not handled properly at all. The clerks didn't even bother to apologize for her behavior and kept justifying her attitude. Clerks need to be attentive, professional and welcoming the whole time not abrasive. Not showing eye contact is also a childish move when someone's is trying to be sincere and let them know that people could be offended by their tone of voice and their attitude I'm just so frustrated at this situation. The other guests were also uncomfortable and no one likes to be in these types of situation. Hence why I even lowered MY voice to talk to her. I'm also not that type of person to yell or be abrasive. I didn't deserved to be belittled, degraded and mocked. Just from dropping off a package. I had to ask James for the receipt, because Valerie couldn't even do that right. read more

First I want to say that the Watsonville PO ROCKS! I agree with a couple of the reviewers that the mail has been coming a little late, but I believe there are some new hires and there's always a learning curve. Then there's the holidays and WAY more online shopping every year so having been a new hire myself and facing steep learning curves, I'm not impatient with my service. They all work really hard and IMHO, incredibly under-appreciated. I have had a couple of issues with packages not received lately but it's always been in other post offices or regional facilities, not our local PO. But I've called at all hours and they have all without fail resolved my issues, and were always extra helpful and friendly while doing it. And they called me back within a few hours. As far as hiring new workers, they recently just sent a notice out that they were hiring. But we can thank the Reagan administration for the descent into privatization where we are now getting less service and paying more for the privilege. For those who blame the carriers, you might want to blame all the private companies that are now in the postal supply chain where the executives make millions, and the workers make nothing and are worked to death. read more

This is the worst post office I have ever dealt with. This post office will not deliver your packages, and then tell the vendors that you asked the post office to placed a stop mail delivery to your address. Yes they will resort to lying to vendors so they don't have to deliver your stuff. Totally incompetent people who cannot do their job. Which is to deliver stuff. Good luck if you have an issue like missing mail. They don't know what to do/ how to resolve it. I'll save you the drive there, you'll have better luck calling the USPS customer service number, but you will probably be on hold for an hour minimum. This system is so efficient. read more

Put a PERMANENT, COMPETENT CARRIER on BRIDGE STREET! For years we had Danny as our regular carrier - he was excellent & knew all of us. He has been on medical leave for a number of years now. In his place we had RICARDO for a number of months. He too was excellent but he was given a DIFFERENT permanent route. We now have STEPHANIE, a TEMPORARY carrier - she is also very good. BUT between Ricardo and Stephanie we've had sub carriers who are just incompetent. AND the subs who work when Stephanie don't know what they're doing either. I'm TIRED of having to wonder where my packages are! Tracking says delivered - not. Tracking says out for delivery - arrive by 8 pm. - not. Then delivery exception the next day says returned to distribution center with NO info when package will be redelivered. WPO get your act together. If I had a way to get packages always from UPS I would. One kudos - today I called the local WPO number and they actually answered. I spoke to Janine who was VERY responsive. Checked my tracking number and told me that "she" (Stephanie) had my package now and would deliver today. Apparently she didn't get my package yesterday. It appears the Watsonville Post office meets and exceeds all of the negative reviews I have read. They do not answer the phone, and there is no place on the main usps website to complain against such defective service. No accountability, no oversight, no service, no pride, no care. Good luck trying to get them on the phone. They just refuse. I called 8 times and it rang so long the phone just gave up and beeped. This is OUR post office paid for by OUR tax money and they behave like they are doing us a favor by doing their job. I submitted a mail forwarding request three weeks ago and have not received ANY mail (rental deposit sent to me two weeks ago, tax documents not here, pay stubs...). Why even have a phone number if you are not going to pick up the phone. The managament is really bad, they just do not care. Infact I am being "payed back" for having the nerve to be upset and complain. My carrier is out with a broken injury. The one sub has left my packages on the truck twice. I asked him and he said he would be more careful not to miss them. On 10/9/13 I was awaiting a special package. He came after 6pm. I had just shut the gate thinking mail wouldn't even be comming. He toosed my package from the truck and it landed 16 feet in the middle of my driveway. Yes I measured! My handmade one of a kind items were broken. I called and complained. Then on 10/12/13 I saw him and asked him. He said he was trying to get my package to slide a certain way, all his supervisors told him to just toss packages over closed gates! He stated my package did not say "do not toss"I chewed him out and I called a mananger whom was just as sarcastic and rude. He told me in the end to leave a note in my box saying not to toss, leave by the gate and I did. On 10/18/13 I was expecting three priority packages. I met the mail truck and the young lady handed me a slip. She said Jesus, a supervisor told her not to deliver my packages, to make me drive 20 miles to Watsonville (I live in Aromas) and pick them up. She said 4 supervisors decided this as I was inapropperate with "Ricky" I was? He tossed my package from the truck landing 16 feet into my driveway breaking the contents and I am not allowed to be angry? I went to Watsonville to pick up my packages and they could not be found?
