My first appointment at Utopia was perfect. Immediately when I walked in I was greeted and offered hot tea or coffee (it was pretty cold out that afternoon). The stylist, Lindsey, was ready for me right on time, no waiting. In addition to the haircut, I scheduled a scalp treatment which was amazing and I highly recommend. Lindsey took the time to give me some really helpful styling tips for my curly hair and even took some extra time to show me some techniques to get better curl definition. I love my hairstyle now (didn't feel like I needed to put it up in a bun or ponytail all day) and already scheduled my next visit with Lindsey for some color. read more

I got dumped as a customer by this salon. The haircuts weren't very consistent, but I didn't mind much. After going there for over a year, they gave me a fake appointment day and time. When I showed up, they informed me that I had no appointment, and that the girl who cut my hair didn't even work on that day. I was on time and even had my appointment card. They never even acknowledged, much less apologized for, the fake appointment, so I assume this was intentional. I have no idea what I did wrong. I always had pleasant conversations with the haircutter and tipped well. On my last visit, I tipped with cash instead of their app, and this seemed to confuse them. Maybe that's what I did wrong, I'll never know. So, you should avoid this salon unless you want the same crap to happen to you. There were never very many customers there at all, so I don't think they'll be open for much longer anyway. read more

I would not recommend Utopia. I've tried twice to get a good haircut with two different high level stylists. Both times, the haircut was really bad with one side layers very different from the other side. Even though it's only been a couple weeks, I'm going into Portland to get it fixed. I had a visit postponed because the original stylist called in sick that day. They were able to schedule me next day with Anastaysia. This is my first salon color (going grey, ready to go lighter instead of the box color I've used for years). I had an 'inspiration' photo. She made no promises and did tell me that because of the lingering box color, it wouldn't be quite the same and could take more than one visit- no surprise... my hair was a mess with washed-out box color. I enjoyed my experience. My hairdresser was friendly and enjoyed conversation. She was able to fix my hair and style it. I had a haircut and then a deep conditioning. I did get a 20% off discount I believe for someone New to their salon. So you'll have to double check. But they also had a 20% off their products. At the end of my appointment they gave me a little packet with bags with a little goody and a sample of some treatment to try for my hair. It was really nice. They also did a great job massaging my scalp. I think they have a special treatment for like a 10 minute massage I think it's 29 bucks. I'm definitely going to come back for that! read more

THE WORST HAIR EXPERIENCE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. I got Katrina, who I later learned is brand new and not experienced. I walked in really blonde, with the exception of maybe an inch of my dark roots that grew out. I was very specific in messages and pictures before and during the consultation. I simply asked for some "off black" low lights added to the blonde I already had. Mind you, I spent a lot of time and money before this to get as blonde as I was. I NEVER ASKED to get rid of so much blonde. I even double checked with the stylist before she started by asking "So it's just going to be little pieces of the dark low lights and still lots of blonde like we talked about and I showed you in the picture right?" She reassured me yes. By the end of it, not only did I lose so much of the blonde, but the dark color she applied wasn't even off black. I will show pictures of my hair how it was when I walked in, the picture of what I asked for, and how it looks now. I am so upset. I still paid and tipped because I thought maybe I wasn't seeing it in the right light or something. When I got to my car, I broke down in tears realizing how bad and OPPOSITE it was of what I asked for. I called immediately and was told to wait for the manager to suggest something. I waited for TWO hours only to be told that the same person who messed it up will "try to fix it". I said I'm not comfortable with that and asked for someone experienced. The manager was really rude and insinuated it was my fault for communication and "unrealistic expectations". My hair was super blonde before this, how is adding SMALL little black low lights unrealistic?! What's unrealistic is the result I got, nowhere even CLOSE to what I asked for. She offered someone on a Tuesday, to which I said my only days off are Saturday-Monday. She then huffily scheduled me with someone on a Saturday and said "we will do our best". There was no empathy or sorries, I essentially was blamed for their mess up and treated like crap for asking for help. I was scared that they would end up leaving me with no true help so I simply said if my hair isn't fixed at least CLOSE to what I asked for, I would just dispute the charge. The manager then chose to refund me in full and say "I'm not a good fit" and "they can't make me happy". They didn't even TRY! Plus, their refund isn't even going to cover the amount of money or time it will take to get my nice BLONDE BACK THAT THEY RUINED, not to mention the unnecessary damage my hair will go through to fix their horrible mistake! DO NOT GO HERE. Here is pictures in the order of: what my hair looked like walking in, the picture I clearly showed of what I wanted, and the end result. I am still in tears about this and idk how someone else is going to fix this. PS- Katrina KNEW it turned out bad. At first she was excited and during blow drying, she said oh we have to get an after picture. I agreed and was eager to see it dry. Once it was dry and she turned me to the mirror for the first time, she purposely had it combed over way on one side trying to hide how bad it was. And also, such a coincidence that once she realized it was bad, never went out of her way to take an after picture like she had been so excited about. Mind you, I didn't say a thing yet giving it time and a chance in different light. Of course she didn't take an after photo, who would use this before and after where the after is WAY WORSE and the before picture was better? Shady shady SHADY!!!! REPLYING TO MANAGER!!: YOU ARE LYING. There were NO changes except me agreeing with her that we can start the low lights at the roots I ALREADY HAD AND NOT BRING THEM DOWN ANY FURTHER, per her suggestion instead of bleaching them to match the rest before lowlights. ALSO, AS YOU CAN READ IN THE REVIEW (which shows you didn't by your reply) I DID NOT SAY ANYTHING UNTIL I LEFT BECAUSE I WAS GIVING IT A CHANCE IN THE SUN LIGHT, hence why I started crying in my car when I realized just how bad it is in sunlight. YOU made me wait two hours, I was told three times within two hours you were "five mins away from dealing with a client". I guarantee if I walked in, right then, you weren't. Liar. How does five mins away excuse turn into two hours? Nothing runs THAT LONG. I also APOLOGIZED FOR BEING LATE DUE TO CHILDCARE ISSUES and said I can reschedule if needed, but I was WELCOMED. You're making yourself look worse and worse, I have receipts, I would stop if I were you.. read more
