Preface/background: I am now more focused on quality and am always looking for a great deal (read: value). Less meat, no more 2 Chipotle burrito eating. Came last night around 8pm and seating was pretty quick. I ordered the Pappardelle Al Ragu Di Vitello - "home made pasta ribbons sautéed with ragout of veal and montasio cheese" for $17. It was really good - the noodles were wide and thin, but they were not too soft. Usually thin noodles have the tendency to be overcooked, just because the margin of error with thin noodles is a little less since there's less to work with, but this was not. In fact, there was a good amount of chewiness for the width of the noodles. The sauce was not too salty and there was just enough ragout of veal, which was basically ground veal. Overall it was a very enjoyable pasta. The bread that came before the meal was nothing special. The olive oil, though, tasted very pure and fresh. But I'm no olive oil connoisseur. All I can comment on was the pasta. The ambiance was nice - like others have said, a good a-little-above-casual date spot. Not too quiet or intimate, but nice enough and loud enough to foster a lighthearted time. All in all, I'll come back to have the pasta here. Mainly just to test them to see if they can really consistently get that thin ribbon pasta to have that right amount of chewiness. read more

The restaurant is on the nicer side, not exactly hip or contemporary, but more with a cosy, rustic and homey dining environment. Gnocchi Di Ricotta is supposed to be one of their signature dishes and homemade. It sure does sound appealing with a "creamy black truffle and chive sauce." The gnocchi itself was just average to me, I've had much better for half the price at a number of places in Manhattan. The sauce was creamy, but mostly just cream, there wasn't any of the strong black truffle or chive flavors promised. The dish wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough for me to want to order it again. My boyfriend got the Bolognese pasta and enjoyed it, but likewise wasn't blown away, and has had better versions for less at several spots around the city. QUES isn't full of tasty and affordable dining options, so this might be the go to spot in the area, but certainly not somewhere I would go out of my way for again. read more

Uva was a fantastic spot to celebrate my birthday with some friends! The restaurant was extremely accommodating with a large reservation for a Friday night. We were seated downstairs, which was great. The space was cozy and wine cellar-like. Everyone loved the food. Highlights were the eggplant appetizer and mushroom raviolis. Delicious! We enjoyed several bottles of wine, and the white that the waitress recommended was perfect (sparkling not-a-champagne French wine). At the end of the meal, they surprised me with a slice of cake that was omg so good! It was layers of thin crepes and marscarpone cheese (I think), which tasted like a cross between creme brûlée and cheese cake, only lighter. Overall a very positive experience! Two days later, my husband and I returned for brunch. I had the veggie frittata with a side of zucchini ragout and a mimosa; the hubs had the apple pancake and a side of potatoes. Only the zucchini ragout fell short. The frittata was cooked very well, light and thin, and loaded with veggies. The apple pancake is one huge, fluffy pancake filled with cinnamon apples. Talk about good. It didn't even need syrup. Also loved the potatoes, though I wish the portion size was bigger so I can eat, and eat, and eat some more. We'll definitely be back! read more

Quick summary: The food was good but I've had better elsewhere. The waitresses were either slow or just incompetent. The burrata appetizer was very good but made me pretty full early on in the meal. The black truffle gnocchi was tasty but way too rich (and I usually love rich, buttery, creamy dishes). The gnocchi was soft and pillowy but it was too much of the same. The shrimp fettucine was delicious. The pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly al dente. The grilled shrimp was sweet and flavorful with a nice char. This was my favorite dish. We ordered the chocolate crepes for dessert which was sweet but not too sweet. The girls next to us didn't touch their Bloody Marys, so I'm guessing that not only were the drinks ridiculously small but they were also unappetizing. We waited forever for our checks. Two waitresses saw us with our jackets on and purses plopped on the table, ready to go (we were late to a concert). The place was nearly empty. Came with 3 friends at 7pm on a recent Monday night, and the place was poppin'! Definitely a nice vibe - busy but still warm and cozy. Thankfully we had made a reservation, and were seated promptly. The restaurant seems small when you're standing in the front by the hostess stand and bar, but it extends quite far into the back. We were seated in an indoor/outdoor garden area, which was warm (too warm actually) thanks to space heaters. Given that it was Meatball Monday we shared the Manzo meatballs, which are made with Kobe beef served on a bed of polenta. These were tasty, although I personally think making a meatball out of Kobe beef is a bit of a waste. We also shared the wild mushroom/arugula bruschetta which was fine. Everyone raves about the gnocchi, so 3 of us got that as our main, while our other friend got the eggplant parm. The gnocchi was quite good, no question, but all the richness from the potato, cream sauce, and truffle, became overwhelming after several bites, and I was unable to finish the plate. The eggplant parm, according to my friend, was really tasty. We also shared a bottle of one of their pinot grigios, which was quite good. Service was a little spotty at times, but overall fine. Brunch at Uva is affordable and enjoyable. Nothing fantastic but you can count on food consistency. Make a reservation for weekend brunch because Uva gets packed at noon. Service was ok apart from the waiter who tried taking my friend's dish away when she wasn't done TWICE! The ambience is nice. Comfortable like I'm in a cozy Italian home. Nice ambiance, the place was packed when we arrived. We opted to sit outside with the slight chill - they did have an overhead lamp to keep people directly under it warm, but it wasn't enough to reach us 3 tables away from the front door. Ordered the Involtini Di Melanzane which is eggplant stuffed with ricotta and spinach. The problem with finding places on Yelp is that it sets a certain expectation for your meal. I saw that Uva had thousands of reviews and a 4 star average, so it must be better than average, right? Not quite for the appetizer. I feel like it was a bit bland and missing any sort of flavor. The ricotta was soft and light, but I didn't find anything particularly appealing about the overall dish that I would want to order it again. Had the Gnocchi Ricotta and Costte Di Manzo Brasate (Braised short-ribs) for the main entrees. I thought the Gnocchi Ricotta was pretty good. Gnocchi was light, not starchy, didn't taste like it came out of a box. Good dish. The braised short ribs were cooked well, very tender and fell off the bone. The sauce - there was a slight bitter taste from the sauce that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I used the potato cake to balance out that bitterness, but overall it was an OK dish. The service was quite good here. Overall, this is a good place to go for a date or something, where the memories of the food won't wash out what you talked about. read more

Really happy we came here! My mom really liked the food which is a rare feat because she is very hard to please. The awesome: The service, outside seating and open late on weekdays. Cow ribs (melt in your mounts) with rosemary potato purée. The ricotta gnocchi with cream sauce and truffle oil. The good: The paper thin Sardinian style flatbread was served cold with "Kraft style" grated Parmesan cheese (May I suggest you guys serve it hot next time with the melted to crispy Parmesan perfection next time?) I came to Uva with a party of 12 for a friend's birthday. Our server was attentive and gave us recommendations on what dishes to try. For the table, we ordered Antipasto Mistro and Prosciutto & Mozzarella. THE CHEESES WERE SO GOOD. All 12 of us ordered various pasta dishes on the menu and none of us had any complaints about the dishes. I really like how they were able to accommodate such a big party. Went here with a group of friends on a Friday night. We were told a table wouldn't be ready for 20 mins, but waited only 5mins to be seated. We sat in the wine cellar/basement, which was cozy. Our waitress, was great. The antipasto misto was a nice opening course. My glass of the Sauvignon Blanc was citrusy and bright. The mezalune were superb and the gnocchi di ricotta was pillowy and perfumed with truffle. The tiramisu was also a great choice. Overall a great dinner spot for a small group of friends looking for a nice dinner and a glass of wine. Definitely will return. read more

I arranged a party with Giacomo Bacci, from Florida for my sons wedding in NY at the end of Covid restrictions. The party went off flawlessly. The food was incredible. Our guests were so impressed. Ever since moving to the UES 4 years ago, I've been coming here and I've never had a bad meal or experience. The staff is always so nice and the food always tastes so fresh. Yes, there may be evenings it can get kinda of noisy because of how busy it is but it truly doesn't take away from the overall great atmosphere of the place. This past week I met a friend there - and while I've always had lovely experiences in the past - our waiter Angel made our time extra special - super attentive! G-d I love this place. My friend introduced me to UVA a while back and when I can't think of new places to go to, I always suggest this place and no one is ever disappointed. When I tell you that everything on the menu is delicious, EVERYTHING on the menu is delicious. They have these Sardinian flatbread cracker things with truffle oil and Parmesan cheese that are so good, you can't help but shove them in your mouth. Their crostini's are superb and tasty, as is the arugula salad. Their pasta is super fresh and full of flavor and it's always a toss up between the gnocchi or the ravioli. My favorite restaurant on the UES! My boyfriend took me here this past summer when we first started dating. We went with another couple and sat in the back garden. It was perfect. The wine was excellent as were our appetizers. I had the scallops wrapped in prosciutto for dinner. It was absolutely delicious. Since my first time there, I've been back at least 6 times. I get the scallops as my entree basically every time I go...hey, I'm a creature of habit. But we do switch up the appetizers from time to time and have not been disappointed. The wine selection is excellent and the waiters are very knowledgeable. I always end up asking the waitress for a recommendation because I honestly don't know that much about wine. They have always been spot on. I haven't been there in a while since my boyfriend wants to go to other restaurants, though I beg him to go almost every time we go out. Dark, intimate and charming. Went here on a weekday night to meet a friend for dinner. It was very crowded, so we had a glass of wine by the bar. After a while, we started wondering if the hostess had forgotten us and decided to just eat there at the bar. It was a good idea. Eating at the bar of a restaurant is always fun for me because there's a lot going on to watch, and since you're sitting next to your companion instead of across the table from them, they are spared from watching you stuff food into your mouth (and vice versa)! So anyway, I really adored this place! Bartender was very very friendly and attentive, the wine I had was awesome (Capo soprano something or other - red), and my meal was great as well, if not a little heavy (the pasta dish). UVA deserves a solid four stars for ambience, excellet food, knowledgeable wine sommeliers. Service was good. Food menu was great, expect a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Buy wine by the bottle if you find one you like. Duck was amazing, gnocchi was good, brushetta was great, lightning was very dim and it was a bit loud in the restaurant but it was overall a fantastic spot to have dinner a long as you want to pay about $30 per person for appetizer, food, wine, and salad. Asked for syrup - never got it Asked for whipped cream, came from a can, got it after asking 2 different people 2 times each. Despite the 45 min wait, attentive wait staff, and extremely tempting menu, the actual food was well...surprisingly salty? I ordered the following: Sheep's Ricotta Cheese and Black Truffle Honey Bruschette - really just a taste (portion-wise) but was an intriguing mix of flavors. Pappardelle al Ragu di Vitello - pasta didn't taste particularly fresh and sauce was too salty. Really mediocre at best. Anello di Capesante E Speck - scallops and proscuitto?! sounds yum but once again TOO SALTY! what a waste. Torta di Mandorle - almond tart was HUGE and not too sweet. My experience at Uva was a great one! My neighbor and I were wandering around 2nd Avenue and all of a sudden, my neighbor's eyes lit up and she asked me, "Have you ever been to Uva Wine Bar?" The next thing I knew, she and I were at a table outside and promptly greeted by a nice and attractive server. Inside, there was modern music playing, but not too overpowering. We both ordered the house Sauvignon Blanc and started munching on the bread and olive oil. We put in an order for (and I forgot what it was called) this amazing ball of cheese in a creamy sauce. I took a bite out of it and melted. We then ordered mozzarella, wrapped in prosciutto, baked in bread crumbs, and drizzled with maranara on top. My neighbor insisted we order gnocchi and truffle sauce and I did not regret it one bit. Uva has my approval and I am definitely coming back again. The lack of good service is what irritated me (one of my pet peeves is bad service!). I'm not even going to get into it here. Haha... I really wanted to love this place. It's been on my list to come here since my birthday (last September). The decor is pretty subtle, with more a rustic feel. I must admit that I was disappointed by the bathrooms which were not as clean and well-kept as the restaurant -- and when I go out to eat, the condition of the bathrooms is a significant factor for me. In addition to the main dining room, there's seating in the front (on the sidewalk) as well as in their patio. My friend and I sat outside. We ordered appetizers and wine. The Riesling was great. The food was so-so. I ordered kobe meatballs with polenta as well as a separate cheese plate. The first order had to be sent back. The second was edible, but not particularly tasty. The people next to us seems to have a tasty-looking pasta dish, so maybe I'll go back and try the pasta next time. read more

Brunch review! They have a good variety of eggs, sweets, crepes, etc. plus a really good entree + side + drink for $18. I got the prosciutto--YUM who doesn't love bacon? Decent portions, well-cooked to a crispy but chewy consistency. The frittata are pretty big and filled with your choice of veggies/meats, but I did think that they were a little bit on the greasy side. They came with a side of potatoes that were pretty tasty and filling. Everyone seemed pleased with their dishes and the service was attentive. Will be back for brunch if I'm in the area! Love this place, it was one of my go to restautants when I lived in the area. They have an all encompassing wine list, and a full stocked bar. The Mozzarella and Camichia (fresh mozz rolled in prosciutto and fired under a broiler till crispy and oozing on top of a pool of marinara) is a must. Eggplant parm, gnochi, and bacon wrapped scallops, are also noteable. Try the chilled fizzy red wine, its interesting for something different, As a bonus, the kitchen is open till 2am. read more

The food was very good but the layout of the restaurant was not that great. The tables were too close to each other. And it could be very loud, because everyone was like yelling in the restaurant. It was very difficult to have a decent conversation with your date mate. Came here with my friend on a Thursday around 6:00pm. The restaurant was super packed already. The hostess told us the wait time was 30 minutes. I don't mind to wait but there was no waiting area. Everyone was waiting there in a small area and other people were trying to squeeze in at the bar, way too crowded. About 30 minutes later, we finally got a table. The service was not that great maybe they were too busy. We waited 10 minutes for a server to come to our table. Then she gave us only one menu because they were running out all the menus at that moment......you could imagine how busy they were. Anyway, we ordered: Traditional Bruschetta ($6.50) - Oh it was so good. It was probably the best bruschetta that I ever had. I like that they added the honey on the bread. Very unique taste. anello di ca pesante e speck which was scallops wrapper in smoked prosciutto with sauteed spinach ($22.00) - OMG..It was so good. The scallops were so fresh and huge. The sauce was flavorful but not salty. bigoletti di barbabietole which was red beet gnocchi in Gorgonzola sauce with spinach ($18.00) - Again it was delicious. Honestly, there is nothing wrong with the food, beverage and service at Uva. But.... there is nothing worth raving about either. Sure, it is a nice clean restaurant in the UES & the staff were very attentive and friendly, but I couldn't help but feel this restaurant was a little too hyped up by yelp reviewers. Its not quite a rustic mom-and-pop, since the food and the prices of the food were slightly above average. (Truffle gnoochi, sauce, cheese.. everything). Yet, It doesn't fit in the category of a new and contemporary Italian either - the ambiance and food were dated & not very creative. Perhaps I was just turned off by the fact that there is truffle on everything - and to me, that is just screaming "pretentious". Food: Yes, I ordered the famous GNOCCHI DI RICOTTA - Gnocchi with truffle sauce. the texture of the pasta is light and good. the sauce is also generously loaded with truffle. overall, a good dish. It's easy to understand why so many yelpers love it so much. The Bf ordered the PAPPARDELLE AL RAGU DI VITELLO - pasta ribbon with veal ragu. Unfortunately, there's no veal flavor in the ragu, but the pasta was cooked well, and the balance of the sauce to pasta ratio was nice. Don't get me wrong, I love truffle. I love truffle cheese, salt, pasta.. etc etc.. But I expected a lot more deliciousness & depth if truffle was involved in a dish. What an awesome brunch place. $19.95 will get you a glass of their delicious wine, a side, and a breakfast dish. Although that was tempting, I opted for an appetizer, wine, and dessert instead- which was surprisingly filling. My appetizer was the bruchetta with goat cheese (absolutely delish- the goat cheese was made to perfection, and the bread was soooooo fresh), and my desser was the nutella sponge cake(which was borderline sinful it was so good). The glass of Merlot was generous as well, and the service was quick and friendly, especially for a Sunday. Wine was great and they were constantly attentive. Food was delicious although we agreed that the Bruschetta could've been warmer we think it was sitting for a few minutes when they confused our appetizer with someone else's meat and cheese platter. I came here for a b-day dinner and thought the food was pretty good. We started with the mushroom bruchette (you can't even taste the mushroom really - it's all mashed up really tiny with the arugula) which was good. Then we split the short rib, the gnocchi and the special spaghetti of the evening with the smallest meatballs you've ever seen (in a cute way). All 3 dishes were delicious in my opinion, with me favoring the short rib (I love my meat) and the gnocchi. The spaghetti was good as well but not your typical thin spaghetti noodles. It was more like udon noodles. Finally the desserts were delicious. We ordered the sponge cake with nutella (def recommend this one). There was nutella on top, nutella in the cake and hazelnut ice cream on the side to make a perfect blend of flavors (though you better like nutella to order it). We also tried the almond tart with vanilla ice cream which was also good but paled in comparison to the nutella in my opinion. The waitress was super friendly and the atmosphere was really nice.
