A special place that lives up to the four stars. The owner chef works hard to make special dishes that are appealing and tasty. We went on Saturday night with a reservation for four at 7:15 and was told to be there in time. We arrived at 7:13 and sat by 7:15. The appetizers were delicious and well portioned. We had the house salad and the another. The main meals were plentiful and the special dishes impressive. The room gets filled fast and is a little loud but who like to eat in silence. After having a number of wonderful dining experiences at Uva Rossa, we expected nothing less when we decided to have our small (40 people) wedding "reception" there. However, somehow, Carol and Antonio eclipsed our already-high expectations. Our guests agree that our afternoon party was flawless. First time here and it was pretty good. I was completely underdressed so i recommend not wearing a dirty tshirt and jeans. No dress code but just by looking around it was clear i messed up haha. The food was awesome. I had the crab slider, a little too wet then i was expecting. The paiella italiana was delicious. Staff was very attentive, decor felt homey. Have to write a review! I grew up on Long Island and now live in North Carolina.I am in the restaurant business, therefore can be extra critical. Every time I visit LI, I find the food gets better and better. My sister (also a foodie) suggested we go to Uva Rossa, from the moment we walked in I could see it was going to be amazing! The service, drinks and especially the food was all top notch! My only criticisms would be that as there were so many specials, I feel they could have been typed on a separate sheet, as it was hard to remember them. Secondly, we had a reservation for three at 6:30pm and was offered the first table on the right of the dining room. Shouldn't reservation tables get more of a priority seating. Will definitely return when visiting again! And recommended to a friend who may visit tonight! Good luck and well done!! read more

I love the food here...the decor is also very beautiful and it is definitely a nice place to go out to when you're not on a budget. The acoustics are pretty bad but that's not a terrible thing. Out of the appetizers the risotto balls are absolutely amazing and there entrees are always amazing. I will definitely be going back here. read more

Poor management . Appetizers were good but after being told "kitchen is closed" we were unable to order anything more . Tried speaking with Manager but was told there was nothing she can do . While at a dinner table one would think the waiter would inform the table the kitchen would be closing so we would be able to order more. We were told only dessert was an option - we ordered them ... Not only were they still frozen we had to pay for all of them . The chef made his appearance only to be concerned with his " celebrity status " and not concerned with his customers . What little food we had was good but poor management ruined the experience and not only would we not return we also would not recommend the hefty bill incurred . read more

Went here last Saturday with my wife for the first time. This place has a great vibe and immediately makes feel welcomed. We decided to have our dinner at the bar because of the friendly bartenders German and Tommy. Great wine selection by the glass. Shared a meat and cheese platter as an app which was awesome. I Ordered takeout for my mother on her birthday (Dec 1st incase anyone is wondering lol) figured we would try something we haven't had before and I'm so glad we tried this great near by restaurant. The tagliatelle was so delicious can't go wrong with the egg noodles, we also ordered the fried calamari that had the jalapeño pieces in it which gave it a nice spicy pick me up. I live for spicy so I don't mind the heat. Lastly we had the clam appetizer which was to die for. It was a little bit on the spicy side for my mother but like I said the kick to it was nice. Really disappointed and would never return!. Our waitress got our order wrong, and so after 45 minutes of waiting for our food to arrive, my husband's dish was sent back! My dish and my daughter's dish were already on the table so we had to eat without him! The maitre D and hostess were very much aware of what had happened and did nothing to try and accommodate us! His food arrived after 15 minutes and we were all done eating! Nothing was taken off our check and the disgraceful part was that we were not even offered a coffee or dessert for the inconvenience! First impression upon walking into this place is that they nailed the atmosphere. Great modern rustic feel with separation of the bar and a fantastic communal table in the front that screams authentic tapas joint. Before we get into anything else, yes the restaurant is loud - not just lively - it is very loud. Apparently they are working on this, so if this is a huge deal to you, I recommend waiting a few months before trying this place out. Moving on - first glance at the menu confused me a bit. They advertise as being a tapas/wine bar, however the menu reflected neither. Sure, they had some bruschetta and charcuterie type items, but for the most part the menu read as a traditional appetizer/entree menu heavily rooted in traditional italian cooking. Despite, the identity crisis, I wasn't turned off as I love Italian food. The wine menu was a good size, however I would have liked to see alittle more variety - perhaps some more local wines? We ordered a great Grenache/Syrah blend - however on a service note, we were brought the wrong bottle and barely noticed it until the last minute because the bottle/label was never presented to us. This is an amateur mistake, all bottles of wine should be properly presented with label facing outward to the person who placed the order. However, the mistake was corrected and we went on to enjoy the proper wine. On to the Food - the bruschetta's were all very tasted ,we sampled them all. My overall favorite appetizer was the stuffed figs. I loved the marscopne/gorgonzola cheese blend, it was perfect! Figs were very fresh too. For my entree, I had the parpadelle veal ragu. It was tasty and well executed. Loved the bowl it was presented in. Huge portion too! For my dessert, I had the nutella crepe, which you can never go wrong with. It did not disappoint. Overall, the food was very good and is the reason people will keep coming back to this place. I think if they iron out some of the kinks, it will be a great success! read more

We went here for a girls night out. Really nice decor. I didn't realize we'd need a reservation, so we sat at the bar. The salad and personal pizza I ordered were really tasty, but perhaps a tad overpriced for Long Island. The drinks were totally delicious and were generous on alcohol. Our bartender was really good. Overall, this place is a bit more than I feel like I should spend, but we had a great time. I'm glad malverne has a cool place walking distance to my house. We live near Malverne and decided to try this new restaurant as we like to frequent local businesses. All I can say is 'wow'. Our server, Tegan, was amazing. He explained the menu to us which is a combination of Tapas and main dishes. The wine was excellent- I had white and my husband had red. We are 'tapas' people and love the concept of 'small plates' that we share. We ordered 6 items which were more than enough. The lobster slider and the crabmeat slider at $3.50 each were great and the price was right. We had dates filled with cheese wrapped in prosciuitto, roasted brussel sprouts, spinach ravioli ( a main course), and peaches (cooked) with incredible cheese and another taste that I can't remember but was excellent. We were full! We were impressed with the service and the food. It is so delightful to find a 'city-like' restaurant on Long Island. We will definitely be back. read more

This was my first time, and it will be my last time at Uva Rossa in Malverne, NY. I was invited to join my good friends for a birthday dinner. I was told that the place is so good one need call a least a week, sometimes two, in advance for a reservation. This lead me to believe the food, service and atmosphere had to second to none. They arrived early and enjoyed a drink at the bar. As for myself and another member of our party, we arrived shortly after they were seated. The place was very crowded and rather loud, a real party atmosphere. I had to squeeze into my place at the table and my drink order was taken rather promptly; I ordered the house pinot noir (in consideration of the name of the place: "red grape"). When the waitress returned with my drink, she disappeared just as quickly and we had a short wait before we placed our order. I ordered the rib-eye steak, medium. Our appetizers arrived in a timely fashion, and one of them, the shrimp salad, had been described as shrimp with green beans and slices of bacon (that sounded yummy) however, when it arrived, it had a lot or sliced cherry tomatoes and hardy any green beans. The portion of shrimp and bacon was adequate. After we completed our appetizers, we had to wait close to an hour before our main courses arrived. During that time, our waitress came by once to apologize for the delay. However, during that time she refilled two wine glasses, not asking if they wanted them refilled. The rest of us had already declined seconds on the alcohol as the weather outside was cold and there was still significant snow and ice on the roads. (Those two guests weren't driving and it was assumed the wine was a way to express regret for the delay in the main course.) When my steak arrived, it looked overcooked though it was a perfect medium, however the inside was cold, indicating that it was thrown back on the grille to "heat it up." My friend ordered breaded pork chop that was obviously breaded with salt, as it tasted very salty, so salty she had to return it. When we were given the check, the pork chop was still on the bill and only when we pointed out that it was returned did they adjust the total. In addition, the two "complimentary glasses of wine were actually charged to the bill. In the end, it was not a very good evening. read more

I normally really enjoy this place because of the great food, service and atmosphere but was extremely disappointed last night. The hostess they have looks miserable and was very cold upon entering. She even gave me a dirty look bc I had an air case on which was very strange! In addition, It was my birthday and my husband had made sure to type a note on open table about it but it was never knowledges by either the hostess or server. My only guess is that that hostess didn't tell the server this detail. Other then that the food was outstanding and service great. They should really consider having a friendlier hostess. This place is a real gem. We were in Malverne looking for a place to have a nice lunch, and we found it here. But, we had help. A local woman just passing by saw us looking at the restaurant's posted menu, and stopped to encourage us to eat here. She said the food was great, and it was. I had a chicken and sausage dish that was really fantastic, and my wife raved about the two appetizers (recommended by the woman on the street) that she ordered. Well after drinking & eating there over a few dozen times i suppose I can be classified as a regular now. Overall an excellent oasis of fine dining strategically located in Malverne. There is no place like it between RVC & Garden City so it became an immediate hit. The food is worth a 5 Star rating as it is the first thing folks comment on. You can go small portion or have a full meal either in the dining room or at the bar where I prefer. However, from Thursday thorough Saturday the bar fills quickly so you may think that there is some type of early bird special - there is not. Uva has simply become very popular with Malvernites and folks from the surrounding communities. The basic menu is quite good but suggest you go for the specials. Their chef really knows how to cook fish, from cod, shrimp, clams to sea bass it is always perfect and portions are plentiful. Pastas / Pizzas are also a good choice as are the various sauces they come with. Their Lasagna special last week could have fed 3 people! They will also let you go "off the menu" if they have the ingredients on hand. The staff is very attentive and friendly and their bartenders (Kara & Tom) make you feel right at home. My family and I eat here often. The atmosphere is family friendly and the staff is nothing short of amazing. The chef, Antonio, happens to be exceptionally creative and I truly appreciate that not only are there specials on a consistent basis, but the chef makes every effort to display the elements of the season in his culinary expertise. Very friendly staff, nice place, excellent wine, however my $60 house special steak was horrible. I took only 2 bites, I couldn't continue to eat it. Even though I ordered it medium rare, the surface was too well done, the taste was bland, and the meat's texture was very dry. The meat was not fresh, it may have been defrosted, and re-frozen. And, the roasted potatoes that it came with was extremely dry. This dish should have had some type of sauce to accompany it since it was so dry, and tasteless. The brownie dessert was the worst that I've ever had. The brownie was served cold with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It should have been served hot. The texture of the brownie was extremely dry, and tasteless. And, our 2nd dessert, the creame brûlée was burnt. It tasted like charcoal. The fried calamari appetizer was good. And, the house special scallops and clams with rigatoni was pretty good. Overpriced for some menu items being tasteless.
