We also tried the fried soman with lamb, the portion was extremely small and there were only 3 smaller than finger nail size lamb meat not kidding at all. Eerkins feels like a fever dream, in the best way possible. What a unique, memorable spot! Admittedly, I didn't sample any food, but the tea menu is extensive and replete with rarities. I'm a noodle person, so when I saw Eerkin's was bringing hand pulled noodles to the neighborhood, I was pretty excited. Thankfully, I had every reason to be. There homemade Lagman is absolutely killer, and provide that perfect balance of springiness and chew which makes for a grade A noodle experience. Adding to that the sauce they top them with is pretty amazing, bringing savory and spicy flavors into the picture, but the noodles really shine as the star of the dish. Beyond the Lagman, Eerkin's bread options are also pretty killer. The Uyghur Naan is super tasty, but for me at least the texture and taste of the Butter Naan is just a hair better. That having been said, the amount of Naan you get per serving feels a bit low. It's certainly not enough of an issue that I ever pass it up, but a little bit more Naan would be ideal. When it comes to tea though, you get a ton of bang for your buck. When I ordered my tea I was expecting a mug, or maybe a small pot, but what arrived was an entire large french press. Even as someone who loves tea, and despite being pretty thirsty, I couldn't finish it all. An order is easily enough for 2 people, which makes stopping by to grab a cup enough of a reason to visit Eerkin's in its own right. Not to end on a less positive note, but my one less than great experience with Eerkin's happened when I ordered the Chuchura soup. The little dumplings inside were lovely, but the broth was frankly just pretty bland. I've seen other reviews that praised the soups, so I'm hoping this was just an off night for Eerkin's, but it was an unexpected flop for a restaurant that usually delivers a ton of flavor in each dish. read more

This place is great, and is quite reasonably priced. My absolute favorites are as follows: -Lamb skewers: at only $3, are honestly the best seasoned/spiced meat I've had in DC, not to mention they come on a cool skewer sword. Be sure to ask for the white sauce. -Uyghur naan: a serving is also only $3 and comes with four slices of bread. The bread is so soft/puffy, and is a little bit sweet in addition to being salty. It's absolutely delicious. -Samsa: If you want an appetizer, this one is great. Buttery, meaty goodness. I've come here a number of times, including bringing out of town guests. My friends and I came here on a Sunday for dinner and we have no words. The food is absolutely AMAZING. Every dish we ordered was beyond tasty and extremely unique. The service was wonderful, the ambiance is beautiful and so authentic. I wish I could give higher than 5 stars! Ordered: - homemade laghman (lamb): 4.5 stars - goyro laghman (lamb): 4 stars - homemade dough (yogurt drink with mint): 4.5 stars (though my friend said he would come back just for this) The homemade laghman has a bit more sauce, more of a sweet flavor (tomato-y taste), and spicier but they taste similar to each other. Between the two I would pick the homemade laghman over the Goyro laghman. Bonus: it's cheaper. Tons of seating. Service is so so. It was a bit hard to get waiters' attention. One of them (one male and one female on a Sunday afternoon), upon seeing our hands couple times, ignored us and continued with what she was doing. This place has a huge potential to be better. The foods on the menu look great and exciting. The tea bar looks great too. But the taste of the foods we ordered was not what we expected. The bread did not taste very good and the beef skews that my fiancé ordered did not taste as 'real' meet. Maybe they were marinated for a very long time made the meat loose its taste. I can't say that the resturant was super clean. The carpet on the stairs to the upstairs looked very dusty. The fork I got for my scrambled eggs was not very clean either. The table cloths are made from plastic. I preferred to see more earthy style. Saying all the above, I think I will go back to this place to try it once more. I hope they address the issues. I've ordered from this restaurant two times on GrubHub. Both times, the order got mysteriously canceled well after it was due to be delivered. It's very annoying to wait an hour for food to arrive, only to find that the restaurant was unable to get it delivered to me. This evening, I ordered the chop fried soman (chicken) along with spring rolls, and it was supposed to take 35 minutes to get delivered. Over an hour later, they canceled it. I've tried all the Uyghur restaurants in the DC area, and this is by far the best--their menu is large and diverse, and loaded with all sorts of tasty entrées, snacks, deserts, and tea, while the restaurant itself is decorated with beautiful art, and a traditional sofa you can eat on. This restaurant used to be fantastic but unfortunately they have changed their chef, at least on Sundays, who has proceeded to dumb down the food. The dapanchi used to be flavorful and very spicy, with a thick, rich sauce and chewy noodles that soaked up the sauce while maintaining their chewy texture. This Sunday, my wife and I got the dish, and it was a night and day difference for the worse. The sauce was super watery and bland, like a Chef Boyardee sauce with less flavor and no spice. The noodles were overcooked and mushy, not chewy. For an appetizer we had ordered Shakshuka, which was supposed to be made with poached eggs. What we got was bland scrambled eggs which we could have done a better job with at home. It appears Eerkins, like many a DC restaurant, is now trying to coast on what had been a well-deserved reputation for excellent and exciting food while shifting to cheaper labor and ingredients. Unfortunately, the difference in quality is painfully obvious. Good for college kids who don't know any better, but very disappointing for everyone else. Teach the new guy how to cook this food properly or bring back to old chef. read more

Ordered takeout from here - really enjoyed the cucumber salad, the lamb kebab was sooooo good and flavorful and I 100% will be getting the full lamb kebab platter next time, however, the lamb pulao was really nothing special. The lamb in that dish compared to the kebab was overcooked and much less flavorful and a very small portion, which left just the spiced rice pretty much. SO GOOD. I never had Uyghur cuisine before but it was absolutely delicious. The restaurant is open for dining and takeout. Masks are required and hand sanitizer is available. All the food is delicious. The chef even came to chat and customize my friend's order to make it vegan. The sweet dough drink was surprisingly addictive with a mint and yogurt mix! Just tried this restaurant for the first time! It is kind of tucked away on Wisconsin ave but has a lovely upstairs seating area with a great window view. The Uyghur noodle soup was very good. Ordered the skewers and they gave me greasy chicken chunks covered by oil with some sort of spice on top. I went there 3 times. I like the environment very comfy they even have traditional Uyghur seats. Their Laghman noodles and lamb pilaf dishes are pretty authentic, but their dishes without the noodles (e.g. Samosa) are not as good. I like their Dapanchi, even though my friend complained about it being not spicy enough. The menu says that a small Dapanchi is for 1-2 persons and a large one is for 3-4. According to my experience a small one is adequate for 1 person (if he is not eating anything else) and a large one is for 2 persons. However, you can always ask for extra noodles (around $4.9) if that's not enough. read more
