With only being open for two months this place really has its act together, I had a 6:30'reservation and we shower up early however because it's so busy we had to wait right to our time slot which is understandable. I had a drink at the bar while I waited which is a little smaller than I expected. When we were seated in the main dining room I noticed how beautifully decorated and modern it felt, Our waitress was very professional, pleasant and was very cognizant of my daughters nut allergy, I had the pleasure of speaking with the GM Eric who was great to talk to, I had the chicken parmigiana which they do a unique take on, it's a chicken thigh that's breaded. Chose V Modern for our monthly girls night. Love that the restaurant offers 2 hour complimentary parking at the apartment complex beside. Win! Seated immediately when we arrived and we worked our way through a busy, large, dimly lit space. Absolutely gorgeous!! The place is loud. BEYOND loud. Def not a place to visit if you are wanting to have any type of meaningful conversation. One reviewer said it was like a bachelorette party and that couldn't be more accurate. Insanely loud. Seating was TIGHT at the tables where we felt borderline Jammed between two other groups. We could hear them talking (meh, yelling, bc the music was so loud). Server (servers) were wonderful- gave personalized recommendations. Caesar salad was good. Heavily dressed, but still good. Pasta was also good, but not overwhelmingly delicious. It was... good. Cannoli bar was a let down (the server though - she was a gem). It showcased sparklers and all that and it was simply a girl with a box around her neck and she filled the cannolis. Idk. We had been wanting to try the new spot, menu looked good and we were big fans of the previous restaurant in the location. Let's start with the good, the service is GREAT! They definitely hired and trained for a great experience. I wanted to see how they had changed the restaurant and one of the servers INSISTED on giving me a tour. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were all full of energy and had service top of mind. The food, well. I would say maybe a step above Olive Garden. It came out SO FAST you know it's all pre-prepared. I get that pasta is relatively quick to cook, but with that many people in a restaurant or was shockingly fast. And, honestly, good but not great. The pasta sauce even felt like it had started with a roux. We sat at the bar because, well at 830, their next table available was at 945. They have a DJ on the weekends and it just gives a bachelorette party vibe. I'm sure if you have a big group this is a great place to go because they have plenty of seating for large groups, but this is definitely not a date night place. But, you can see the staff is struggling with understanding some orders, and fully perplexed while explaining to customers that they do not have what is on the menu. This spot is LOUD. Went to V Modern Italian the other night and it's definitely more of an experience than just dinner. The vibe is the main draw. Dim lighting, huge chandeliers, music going all night. Feels more like a Miami or NYC spot than Charleston, so not somewhere you go for a quiet meal. Food was really solid. Burrata was great and the bread hit. Pizza was the standout for me, super crispy with a little heat and one of those where you just keep going back for another slice. Drinks were strong and felt like part of the experience too. We got to experience Charleston's newest hot spot restaurant and we had an amazing time. V Modern Italian was a total vibe and full of people enjoying a Friday night dinner, DJ included. The space is huge, with plenty of space for large parties. The decor was super stylish and done in great taste. Service was super on it and made sure we got our food fast (we had a show to get too) so he made sure dishes were coming out in a timely manner. We also got to meet the general manager who was so nice and welcoming. The food was so tasty, we ordered the Tutti antipasti tower, which had amazing breads and burrata cheese. For the salad we went with the cesar and for dinner we ordered the Black Truffle Pipette, which came with Portabella mushrooms in a creamy black truffle sauce and the Salmon which came with a crusty panko crust and Mediterranean herbs - yum! Our dessert was super delicious, but they looked and tasted a little similar so I would maybe switch one and get their gelato. Mixed feelings on this review so bare with me on the ups and downs. Walking into the restaurant I was very impressed with the decor. It was absolutely beautiful. It did take us a while to figure out what door to enter in. So it would be nice to have a sign printed on the glass of the door that says the name of the restaurant. We came here for our anniversary and expected a very special night. Since we did indicate that on a reservation, I was expecting a little bit more private table and not in the middle of several other tables on the booth bench. We did walk by several other table options that would have been suitable. I guess I should have indicated that in our reservation;but, I did not know the layout of the restaurant in order to determine a good table for us to have dinner. I was also trying to be a good guest and not complain about the table that was given to us. On hindsight, I probably should have said something to the host attendee. Our server, Justin, was amazing! He was very friendly, not overly attentive, and a joy to converse with. The first thing I notice as we were waiting on our cocktails, is that the music in the restaurant was very loud and it sounded like we were just listening to the top 40 on the radio. It was not impressive and it kind of ruined the atmosphere of the restaurant. I believe a different type of music would be more appropriate... instrumental, perhaps. And then turn it down as it supposed to be in the background, not centerstage.. Because the music was so loud, everybody in the restaurant had to talk louder in order to be heard, thus the volume in total made it difficult to talk and enjoy our dining experience. Cocktails..I got the Going Coastal with Lunazul Blanco Tequila, Italicus, Hibiscus Strawberry syrup, Lime juice, Mezcal float. Yummy! My husband got the Dolce Vita..Pineapple, agave, lime juice, almond, orange flower and Gin. It was also very good. We got the Scampi Di V for our appetizer. It was good, but they left the tails on the shrimp. Its easier to eat with them off. The serving size was enough for 2 people. For dinner, my husband got the Barolo Braised short rib that came with a side of roasted potatoes topped with freshly grated parmesan cheese. It was really nice and tender and had a good flavor; however, we had a better short rib at the Select restaurant that previously occupied this restaurant space. Per the recommendation of our server, Justin, I got the branzino. Loved it! The fish was cooked to perfection with the crispy skin and topped with capers and kalamata olives. I don't even like kalamata olives; but, they were definitely needed to cut the richness of the fish and sauce. For dessert, another recommendation from our server, we got the tiramisu. It was very good, but slightly sweeter than I expected. Like I said, our server, Justin was amazing. So recommendations to the restaurant.. Too many tables along the booth bench. We couldn't have a private conversation without both tables on either side of us knowing everything we're talking about that's if they could hear us over the music. Second, the pacing in between our dishes should have been a little bit more spaced out. We just finished our appetizer and then the dinner came out. And then shortly after that, our dessert came out. So slow up the pace. I don't like being rushed when I'm paying high dollar for food and service. Hopefully with a few little tweaks, this restaurant will be much better in the future. read more

Beautiful bar and restaurant. They have a DJ and about 100 servers, runners and managers working. All the staff get in a conga line and twirl napkins over their heads and make a few laps around the restaurant. It's supposed to inject fun, but gave off Macaroni Grill vibes. Drinks are good - my Negroni was delicious. My husband ordered an 8 ounce pour of a cab and was surprised when it cost $29. So that wasn't great. Food was hit and miss. The focaccia was not focaccia - more like Texas toast as another reviewer stated. Focaccia should be crunchy, fluffy and taste of olive oil. I was given an incorrect order which I realized after I started eating. (It's dark in there!). They gave me my correct dish and I also kept the wrong one. Baileys tiramisu was really good for dessert. We were given the wrong check when it was time to pay. There was a line for the bathroom - they only have two one-ers. I came to V Modern Italian with friends. We were seated at a booth overlooking the bar. The decor was very cool: they have stunning chandeliers, botanical greenery, a climate-controlled wine wall, and very cool Roman-themed murals. Most surprising to me was the music: I thought it was a hip Pandora playlist, but there was actually a live DJ in the front corner of the restaurant (which explains why it was so good!) However, I would suggest sitting further into the restaurant though, as chatting with friends required loud voices due to our proximity to the DJ. In terms of food, the antipasti tower was great. While the bread is not a true crostini, it was still absolutely delicious and perfect for sharing and building your own bruschetta. For my cocktail, I got the Hugo Spritz with St. Germain. It tasted like an elevated/more refreshing glass of champagne. My friends also ordered the Roman Mule and the Going Coastal, which both met their approval. For mains, I got the Vodka Rosa, which was DELICIOUS--highly recommend! We also split an arugula salad, meat-lovers pizza, Margherita pizza, and another friend ordered the peach salad with a 4oz added piece of salmon. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We were so full, we sadly couldn't fit in dessert. At one point during dinner, a server may have incorrectly overheard our reviews of the food (for some reason he thought we didn't like it) and rushed over to make it better and brought us the most delicious cesar salad dressing! You can really taste the anchovy in there! It just shows how attentive they are and how much they actually care about their customers! Our bill, attached to this review, was $304.70 without tax and tip: HOWEVER, there is a way to save $$$! (MAY ONLY BE AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME!) Maybe i just loved a dressed up salad but it was still good. For pasta we got the black truffle with braised short rib and that was probably my favorite thing i ate the whole night. We also got the lobster ravioli which was good but nothing amazing. And lastly our entree was the braised short rib with a side of roasted potatoes. We visited V Modern in the early evening of a Saturday for a Mother's Day dinner. Our overall experience was excellent, however, one must bear in mind that the restaurant has only been open for a month. Expectations need to be adjusted accordingly, because an operation this young is work in progress. That being said, the decor and atmosphere were great, but it is very loud in there. I suspect that they will have to implement some discreet noise reduction, and would definitely suggest it. The food was very, very good. The team needs to be more aware of ensuring that food is served hot - more focus from the alley expo, please. The service staff were excellent and there were plenty of them. The tables for two people are super tiny and are waaaaay too close together, like a grown man could not slide in-between them. My husband and I were seated at one these tiny tables and there were two woman at the table next to us and they were so close we could hear EVERY word of their conversation. It was SUPER awkward. Whenever I had to get up to go to the restroom I was literally pressing my body onto someone sitting at the table next to ours just to get past. We went to the friends and family night at the new location in Charleston, and it was fantastic! The vibes are great, and the decor and setting is definitely upscale, yet warm. Management needs more time to figure out clumsy kinks - entrees arrived to table rather 'cool' and under cooked - good taste but they were not hot or cooked through - slow service - super LOUD Miami-style club music which is not suitable for dining - but once your brain can get past the artificial greenery (which does not belong in Charleston), the ambiance and decor is very impressive. I'm so unsure how to rate this because my experience here was kind of an emotional rollercoaster but I'm left wanting to go back! First, we did have to wait an additional 10 minutes after checking with the host to be seated for our reservation. Our appetizers came out quickly before our drinks, but were piping hot and delicious. We had to wait quite a while for our drinks but our server apologized for the wait. We were super excited to try their sourdough pizza only to be informed that they had sold out of their dough, but our server recommended we try the branzino. There was quite a lag from that time to when our entrées came, and it was really difficult to catch our server. I also had asked for a drink menu so I could at least order another beverage but unfortunately was never brought one. When our entrees did arrive, we were sent the wrong pasta but our server had caught the mistake quickly and brought the correct dish to us. She told us to keep both and I'm glad we were able to try it because all of the dishes were absolutely incredible. The branzino was a great recommendation, and we finished the meal with two scoops of gelato. The pistachio gelato in particular was outrageous. All in all, I definitely plan to go back so we can try the pizza, hoping the service improves a little bit, but it's also the first week of opening. read more

In no way should you come here expecting traditional classic Italian food. We had the antipasto tower. The bruschetta had a layer of cheese. Flavors were ok. Everything looked really pretty but there wasn't one thing that I would say we have to go back for again. The focaccia bread comes in sticks that look like French toast sticks. They were quite soft and very salty. The truffle dip was excellent. The burrata was the tiniest little sliver of a burrata ball. Not sure why it was served that way since the best part of burrata is cutting into it. The pasta was served in small portions. The manicotti looked pretty good, the ragu was fine. The pasta was a little overcooked but it was a large half moon with curly edges that looked pretty but the flavor was just ok. Not enough sauce maybe? I don't know. The short rib was nice, potatoes were served on the side with maybe Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top and had a nice touch of rosemary. The Almond cake for dessert was good. I think this is definitely more a place to be seen. The food seems secondary to the other things going on. (Dj, big light fixtures and interesting decor).
