I've been going to V star a lot even back when it was called jumbo and I loved it. It's comfort food

Let me start by saying, if you are craving Chinese food and dabbles of some basic sushi rolls, this place is perfect. They have a few items like salmon, craw fish , stuffed clams and oysters available. They also have good Fried rice, Orange chicken, beef broccoli and chow mein. They also offer a few American items like pizza, fries and nuggets for the kids. This is a Chinese buffet so don't expect it to be anything like the Golden Corral. The place is clean and the servers were on top of refills and keeping our tables clean. It wasn't crowded at all so you can get seconds or thirds quickly. Get your lunch on. read more

Decided to try this place for ourselves. There was a lot of variety of good which was nice and there seemed to be a steady flow of fresh batches coming out but you could definitely tell there were some dishes that had been there probably all day. In particular the mashed potatoes, MAC and cheese, beef ribs. There was also a whole duck that looked like he'd seen better days. I skipped those items, tried some of the fresher looking foods. They were okay, nothing special though. My husband tried the beef ribs and I took a bite.. you could definitely tell they had been reheated and/or just had sauce continuously slathered on top to cover the old meat appearance but you can't hide that taste. The best thing I tried was the chicken skewers and the fried shrimp, and fresh fruit. The server came by and refilled our drinks about 3 times, so We didn't have problems there. I also saw workers coming through and changing out tongs, wiping down the counters etc which was nice. Overall I think the food has lots of room for improvement as far as taste and freshness goes. I havent been here in a while, and it hasn't gotten any better. The last time I came around here, the food was better tasting and warmer. This time, I came with my Dad, his Girlfriend, his girlfriends daughter, my friend, and my brother. When my dads-gilfriend-daughter undercooked shrimp, and the service was pretty bad. First you walk in and pay $24. Looks amazing at the start, they have a nice fountain (might have fish). They also have cheap paper signs where you pay that say 2 hour Maximum! And make sure you tip signs! The food was terrible, beyond garbage. I would recommend eating your own throw up. Ima keep it %120 with you guy could go grab a 7-11 Hot-dog instead. Would've been hotter and fresher. The Mac and cheese was stale and looks like it had food coloring. They offer 2 kinds of fruit for desert and have terrible locks in the restroom. They don't work and open on both sides of the stalls. Customer service was trash, don't expect for them to refill your drink btw unless you walk up to the front counter and ask yourself. They basically ignore your empty drinks right by your table. Very cheap. Very bad. Very trash. Save yourself some time and go to golden coral. I slurped my empty drink with melted ice to try and get their attention and they ignored me. I wouldn't hate you guys for leaving no Tip. Ummm this place is great they got all you can eat "sushi" so for the price alone it's worth it. They also got a fry section so you can pick out all your ingredients and they will cook out for you. They are a little stingy on the icecream but I can imagine people getting bowl fulls and just not eating it. read more

This is the same old Jumbo Buffet with a newly remodeled interior and new name. It is much cleaner looking and the new interior is nice but, it is the same food they served before. The items on the buffet are not fresh looking and are greasy and over-sauced. We were there for dinner at 6 PM but it appeared the food had been left over from lunch. The seaweed salad was brown and tasted very fishy instead of the bright green salad with a fresh sesame dressing I expected. Every item I chose was shiny with grease. Some items were eatable but very few. I would not recommend this to anyone. Save your money and your stomach. It's the same chef, same people, same telephone number, etc. Don't be fooled into trying it again. Ugh! read more

It's your typical Chinese buffet with a few other things thrown in. This place is a remodeled buffet that was formerly Jumbo Buffet. They changed the interior around quite a bit, it looks a lot nicer... most of the food options are the same with a few changes here and there, but for the most part... it's all the same. They changed the ice cream from the self-serve machine... to self-scoop tubs... huh? ... (see uploaded picture!) I've never been to any buffet where you scoop your own ice cream. Just knowing my hands can get messy scooping MY OWN ice cream out of half-gallon tubs at home makes me cringe when I think of several dozen people scooping ice cream out of these giant tubs (think of those 5 gallon tubs of ice cream at any ice cream parlor). Just imagine 20-50 strangers helping themselves, the backs of their possibly unwashed hands touching the ice cream, maybe some fingernails getting caught in there as well... throw in a few kids who decide to ignore the sign telling them to have an adult help them... it's just bad news! Worst buffet ever. Stay away. Food is disgusting, staff is rude. I went give this place a second chance after I had experienced spoiled pasta on my last visit---- how can you have spoiled pasta!?!?! (which they did nothing about - no apology, I can't remember if they removed the tray of rotten food). The food was soggy, looked old, and lacked flavor. "Never Ever Ever eat here, this place sucks." That's what I posted on my Facebook Check-In. Every main entree had a greasiness about it. I'd have to guess that 90% of what is served is frozen, there's a stale freezer burn taste to everything. The place was marginally clean (in the dining area) and the staff were friendly enough. As we were seated, the was a young man of questionable immigration status, playing loud "Bandas" music from his outdated Nokia flip phone. I asked our waiter if he could ask the man to turn it off, but he couldn't really comprehend what I was saying to him. So we ended up moving on our own. My wife told me the womens restroom was so dirty she couldn't even bear to go in. That has to be absolutely FOUL, as my wife is no prissy princess. This place has some great food at a great price. I stop by whenever in town and will continue to do so.

The only differences that I have noticed is the fact that it's no longer called "Jumbo Buffet" and it's had a facelift. Otherwise, nothing else has really changed. The food was delicious and the selection suited me very well! And, at a price of $10.00 even that includes your choice of beverage, this place is a must for Chinese Buffet enthusiasts. Went again two days later and still impressed. There are so many dishes that I like here. Unlike other chinese buffets I've visited, this one keeps you coming back to try other things. When one eats mashed potatoes, they expect the mashed potatoes to be warm, for the very least! You'd be shocked to hear that is not the case. The mashed potatoes we got were cold! The mashed potatoes was one of many cold foods that we got. Finally, let's touch on food freshness. Restaurants are expected to serve fresh food options to their customers. "It seem's risky but I'm willing..." -my roomie. So we gave it a chance - prob the last time we're coming. It was ~$17 for dinner. They had shell fish and crab legs so that was a plus. The stir fry was kind of a joke and the lady making it was in a terrible mood. The "Most Disgusting" Chinese Buffet I have ever been to!!! I go there once a year to see if anything has changed. My last visit was indicative of the ones before. Floors dirty and sticky. Some of the lights were burnt out. The walls had food smeared over them. None of the "Hot" buffet lines were producing any steam (which means, "they were no where near hot enough"). The ice for the shrimp was halfway melted. Which made the shrimp feel lukewarm. Lastly, O.M.G. the SMELL of the place was horrendous. Imagine a sewer combined with black mold. First time writing a review because I felt almost obligated to share my experience. Coming in the cashier was rude. Customer service in general was poor. Food was about a 2 out of 10 and that is being generous. Had a horrible stomach ache afterwards. Maybe it was the cold food maybe the sushi that looked like it was sitting out for a very long time. I come here for lunch once in awhile. It's okay it's not all that great. But you know, being far from home (LA and Orange County) it's hard to come by food that reminds me of my kind of food up here. So I get some of my cravings satisfied here. Clams, pig feet (Kaw is what we call it) and shit like that.
