BLUF: Food is very good. Ambience is, shall we say, lacking. Went for dinner, looking for some affordable Afghan food. The food itself was very good. Mantu in particular was delicious. I did find it odd that no bread came with the entrees. I expect charges for extra bread, but usually you get at least one piece with an entree. That said, it wasn't that pleasant a dining experience. There was no air conditioning on a 90 degree day, which made it more uncomfortable to eat hot Afghan food, even if it was very good. Also, there were dirty dishes from previous diners on several of the tables, and nobody made any effort to clean them up. It wasn't the most pleasant sight to see. If you go, understand you will pay for all drinks, even water. They don't server water except for selling bottle water, and there are no fountain type drinks. This will add 2-3 bucks per person to your meal cost. I'd go back, on a cool day, just because we did like the food. read more

This is the authentic kabob spot in Annandale. I've always passed this area and opted for KBBQ instead. I decided to stop by after an Iranian friend recommended this place. We had the lamb kabob, gyro and lamb curry. Everything was cooked fresh. Great flavor and the meats were very tender. They offer complimentary chicken noodle soup. There is a hot bar of food for the sides and all the other meats are cooked fresh. Don't expect a long wait for your food. Around 15 mins tops. The green spicy sauce and lamb are a must try. Grabbed food here and it was fantastic! Their gyro was delicious and beef kabob just incredible. Their soup was fantastic and lamb stew cooked to perfect. There is plenty of marking up front, and a ton of indoor seating. The owner was awesome, customizing orders to suite. Even though his place wouldn't be considered a Greek restaurant, they still specialize in a full stack menu of various types of Halal food including kabobs and gyros. Thy offered 3 different types of gyros. One of the gyros called the Afghan Gyro was very tempting, and it was served in Afghan bread not the normal pita bread served at other Greek restaurants. An Afghan Gyro is something that I've never tried before, and it even included a Greek salad. In the end though, I went with what I knew: the regular Gyro sandwich. It featured a combination of beef and lamb topped with tomatoes and tzatziki sauce. The original manager knew my family, but he passed the restaurant to another family member (perhaps his brother) and that's when we sort of stopped coming... I got the Koobideh Kabob combo (A-7) here and I was very disappointed with my meal. The meat itself was over seasoned and over cooked, and it was overall the driest kabob I've ever had. The only thing that helped the dryness, was the one small side of potatoes. There are definitely better kabob options in the area that will get your money's worth. Wow, this place has delicious food! When my husband arrived, they were still cooking our food (they literally grill everything to order here -- over a flame!), so they gave him a cup of spicy minestrone-like soup to enjoy while he waited. What a treat! I got the chicken kabob with sides of salad, rice with the carrots and raisins, and the seasoned potatoes. My husband got the salmon kabob and sides of salad, rice with he carrots and raisins, and chickpeas. The flame-grilling makes a difference because you can see bits of yummy char on the outside of the meat, and the meat was still very juicy and tender. Both entrees were delicious! Our food also came with massive pieces of bread with 2 dipping sauces -- one mayo-based and the other jalapeno-based. Good prices, too! My experience was great! Went with some coworkers the other day, and the staff was so pleasant. We had a party of 6, and as soon as we walked in, they offered us all hearty samples of their soup, talked us through the menu, and didn't bat an eye at the fact that we stood there aimlessly for a few minutes while trying to figure out what we wanted. I ended up ordering the veggie platter which came with rice, naan and a side. I chose the chickpeas. It was good, and fresh tasting. Their bread is BOMB too. My favorite food corner is the one in Centreville (they had the best chicken last time I went) while I know it's a chain their chicken was just above the regular food corner (which is still delicious). The customer service here is great and they really want you or enjoy the food.
