Wow! The dishes were delicious and innovative! As a corn lover, the flavor note of Esquites just reminded me of elotes that you get from a street vendor in Mexico. The Tlayuda was huge! We added carne asada as our topping, and it turned into an huge entree that's shareable between two people. We finished our meal with the most flavor-intense dish - duck confit enmoladas. Despite not being a crazy mole fan, the mole sauce that was drizzled all over the enmoladas had a perfect balance of rich notes with a bit of bittersweet chocolate undertone. The ambiance was great with both indoor and outdoor seating. We were there to celebrate our anniversary, and the restaurant made it so special for us by providing a menu printed with "happy anniversary" with a note card and glasses of sparkling wine! This is a gem that's not to be missed!!!

We were in the area and just went in because Mexican for dinner sounded good. Once inside, I saw…read morethe Michelin sign and slowly realized as I looked around the restaurant that this was not a casual Tex-Mex kind of place. By then the hostess had already seated us and I was immersed in the excellent service and the delicious aromas from the open kitchen. My husband lived in Mexico City for a time and he said this was some of the best Mexican food he'd had. The corn vermouth was delicious and I'd never heard of sotol so tried it in a paloma, which was great. Definitely will go back again, but only once my wallet has recovered.

I always debate between eating tacos or burritos depending on how famished I may find myself. At Totopos, you will be full either way so prepare to have leftovers or a two part meal-- certainly enough to share so no need to be greedy. On our latest visit, I got three tacos (grilled chicken, and pork) and my company got the pork burrito. The pork was described as being a gyro-style pork and that got my attention-- if you've read my past reviews you'll know why! In any case, I just couldn't choose one type of protein so tacos allowed for variety. The shrimp was the winner, followed by the pork and then the chicken. The place is clean, but be aware they don't have a bathroom for customers. They do have fresh beverages like hibiscus (jamaica), Tamarindo and horchata, as well as canned/jarred brand name drinks. The service was friendly and patient. Be aware that the food is made upon ordering and from scratch so plan ahead. Check it out when in the area.

The staff are incredibly nice. We ordered the al pastor tacos, quesadilla with enchilada meat, and a tamarind agua fresca. The food took about 10 minutes to prepare. The portions were more than generous and I really enjoyed the taste of the tamarind agua fresca. However, I do wish the tacos and quesadilla had more flavor to them. Many Mexican food places have amazing flavors, but I felt as if the food here had less flavor than in other places. We also had the chips and guacaomole. I do wish that the guacamole had more lime in it. Overall, the restaurant has nice staff and the service is pretty quick. I do wish that the food had more flavor, though.

And, they were extremely fresh and flavorful. The portion was also huge. It lasted me three meals. There was plenty of bar, high top and booth seating here too. The chips and salsa were $5 for the lunch special but at our regular spot which is La Herradura they are complimentary. The virgin mango slushie was good but the bang bang shrimp taco had baby shrimp that were fried with bang bag sauce on them. The taco was dry because it only had shredded cabbage on the top and a few dollops of the bang bang sauce. I also ordered a fish taco but it was doughy on the inside and when I bit into the taco it was mushy so I sent it back. My husband ordered enchiladas verdes and he didn't like it. He left most of it on his plate. The server asked if we wanted anything from our plates to go and we both said no. Both of our stomachs were hurting that night. I am not lying. The place is nice and quaint on the inside and is good for drinking if that's what you like but eat at your own risk.
