A huge disappointment was the beef ribs and rice pilaf, both lacking seasoning and substantial flavor. Yes, the beef ribs are fall of the bone but they are tasteless and over-priced for the quality. The corn bread is good. Another disappointing dish is the smothered pork chops. The porkchops do not stand up to the massive amount of gravy they are sitting in. It renders the porkchop lifeless and soggy and the gravy isn't seasoned to add insult to injury. The turn over is good, so it ensures the food is coming out hot-n-fresh, the staff do a good job at keeping the trays filled. It's worth a try to check out soul food in the STL

So this past Sunday, I took advantage of their Brunch. I started my Sunday breakfast with an adult beverage. Their Bloody Mary, has just enough spice to give it a good kick to start your morning. I don't know about you, but I always have to have a cup of coffee as a chaser for my Bloody. I take mine black and strong, to get through the entire day. For my entree, I built my own Omelette with, Spinach, Bacon, Onion and Cheddar Cheese. It was a light golden yellow and was filled with a generous amount of my chosen ingredients. As a side, it came with crispy potato wedges and a small cup of ketchup for dipping. The two paired together, made for an excellent Sunday Brunch. I always sit at the bar, since I usually dine alone and the service was attentive. The bartender was personable and lead the entire bar into a good conversation. I'm glad to be back in STL and I am super glad that my new condo is closer to Polite Society than my last home was. I'm confident I will be once again, be a regular.

What surprised me was that there really wasn't another side available to substitute for it, so I ended up choosing something completely different. I also asked about sampling something before ordering and learned that they do not offer samples. Host was super friendly, got us seated and let us know Charlotte would be our server. She is great, we have had her before and she is friendly and efficient! I got the 1/2 smoked chicken with mac and cheese (still the only place I will order mac and cheese!) As the evening progressed the place filled up so glad we go there early. I need to grab brunch. So I'm out on the road literally floating around towns in St Louis counties, when I come across a store that has a FARM tractor display in the front. I stop, look around, there ain't be no barns out here that the tractor is from... maybe that's why the tractor is parked in front of the store? I look around some more.. wait a minute there ain't be no farms out here that there would be any barns out here that the tractor is from? So i figure i have to stop off and get reality straightened out. Yes, that's I-44 i see over there, and S. Jefferson I see over there. I _am_ still in St.Louis, aren't I? This isn't Kansas is it, Dorothy (Yes, i was going to use that for the title of the story: "We're not In Kansas are we Toto?") Anyway, so I pullup in the street parking (You wIll not find any parking lots in there area) that aren't a walk away and aren't reserved for other buildings. Fortunately, it's the not the weekend, so plenty of street parking. So we walk up to the store.. Breakfast all day! Lunch all Day! But wait.. can you do that legally? Let's go find out... Right by the door is the paper menu, which means you don't have to wait by the counter to figure out what you want (well, wouldn't you know it, that's what i have to do, as the couple in front of me have NO idea what to order so they stand at the corner...). Unfortunately, they were also rubbery in places, with quite a bit of tendon and connective tissue. The breading was crispy, but it had almost no flavor or seasoning. The fries were okay, though also unseasoned, and the slaw was very watery. I really wanted to enjoy the meal because Hodak's has been a St. Louis favorite for so long, but the wings in particular were a big disappointment. I'm not sure if something has changed over the years or if I just caught them on an off day, but based on this visit, I wouldn't order them again.

Upon entering, the bar & tables match the door with a light wooden grain, accented by the bare brick wall along with greens, reds, and black fixtures. Despite the upscale, minimalistic vibe, it's still cozy & inviting, especially with the help of the staff. The staff here are definitely a key piece in why this place is amazing. Our server was very helpful in explaining the menu and drinks, and was super attentive to us throughout our dining experience. Because everything on the menus sounded so good, we got stuck a few times and our server gave some great input to help us decide on what to get. The staff create such a friendly & warm vibe that invites you in and helps you feel comfortable. Moving onto the food & drinks, we started by browsing the cocktail and wine menus. Everything sounded so good so we had a tough time deciding what we wanted, but we settled on the Corner Office & the Paradiso, both of which were delicious! The root beer infusion in the Corner Office was a very nice touch and added a unique flavor I don't get to taste with bourbon very often. The menu leans heavily towards small plates and shareable large plates, similar to a tapas-style restaurant. We were pretty torn on what to get, and as mentioned earlier, our server gave us some great input on what we may like given our palates. With her help, we started with the Crispy Artichokes, Crispy Green Tomatoes, and Carne Cruda. We were pretty excited about the Crispy Artichokes, but were somewhat disappointed as they were pretty bland, though the sauce helped a bit. The Crispy Green Tomatoes were probably our favorite as the flavor, texture, and basil yogurt sauce all meshed together incredibly well! In addition, the crispy green tomatoes were garnished with yellow & red pepper slices which added an eye-catching pop of color to the dish. Lastly, the Carne Cruda was a new one for us as we haven't had beef tartare before, so while we were hesitant going into it, we were pleasantly surprised by the rich flavor of the beef complimented by the mustard seed. Our only gripe was that the chips they serve with the beef tartare were incredibly salty, and while I understand that the salty crunch is crucial for the dish, the salt overwhelmed the flavor of everything else and made it hard to enjoy which was unfortunate. For the larger plate, we ultimately decided to split the Pork Chop. Normally, I'm not a big fan of pork chops, but the 'nduja marinade was flavorful without being overpowering and complimented both the pork as well as the corn polenta perfectly. We were happily surprised with how good the dish was, with the polenta really being the star for us. To finish things off, I ordered a dessert cocktail that I can't quite recall the name of. It was a mix of whiskey with a coconut cream and a few other add-ins, I believe. Regardless, it was one of my favorites and was a nice way to end our experience at Little Fox. Overall, we were surprised in some areas (the vibe & cocktails especially) and a little underwhelmed in others (namely the artichokes & the saltiness of the chips with the tartare). Maybe I hyped it up in my mind too much, but the food wasn't quite as show-stopping as I was hoping. At the end of the day, though, I really enjoyed the experience and will likely return in the future.

Was heading to the STL City game and met up with some friends at the Pitch Athletic Club. A great…read morebar and grill with a touch of Irish flare but still has plenty of TVs to watch any game you're looking for. Arrived on a Saturday afternoon for pr game libations and the place was packed. Seating is first come first served and was able to get seating. Our server was overwhelmed with how busy it was but still was able to provide great service. We went with several different appetizers and were all very good. The Pitch also has plenty of beer on tap as well as drink specials. Restrooms were clean and tables were serviced very quickly. Great experience and will be back for another pregame libation. Give them a try.
