This is a great place for casual dining as well as date night. The menu has a wide range of price options. I usually get the steak, either the sirloin or the filet mignon. I've never, ever been disappointed. Always cooked perfectly to order, and the seasoning on top enhances an already fabulous slab of red meat. The entrees come with salad and rolls, as well as a baked potato about the size of your head (other sides available). The server will always ask if you want to add bacon and cheese to your potato, but they don't mention that's an extra charge, so just be aware of that. Get the lemon pepper salad dressing, it's soooo good. Not a lot of pepper, but it's more of a lemon vinaigrette. And the rolls are always soft and warm. Not gonna lie- we usually ask for more so we can tuck them into our leftovers boxes. I usually get a Manhattan or Old Fashioned, both of which are always well balanced and tasty. Love the ambiance of the place. Dark wood, old timey finishings (but I like that kind of stuff), fireplace mantels, etc. It's also in a great Soulard location. Parking can be tricky sometimes, though. It does get busy for dinner time on the weekends, so you will probably have a wait, but it's never too bad. The bar will be happy to serve you a drink while you wait (bar area is small and can also get crowded). Staff is always very friendly. Service can be a tad slow when they're really busy, but that should be expected. This is one of our favorite places. Highly recommend. read more

Great lunch! For $15.95 you get a sandwich, side and drink (including some with alcohol. ). I like their burgers and on Fridays their Monster Fish. I also enjoy adding blue cheese crumbles to my salad with lemon pepper dressing. Our waiter was attentive. Walk in and you enter into a beautiful wood bar area. Walk up a step and enter into the dining area with 10 or so tables in a warm and inviting room. The sweet waitress came over quickly and took our drink orders giving us time to look over the menu. I ordered the petite fillet. it came with a side salad and a baked potato. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, the salad was fresh and the baked potato was huge. Rolls were also served with the dinner. They were warm and fresh. I was a waitress here over 50 years ago when it was called the Transatlantic Balloon Company after a previous business that owned it. I had just moved into Soulard and needed weekend employment. In those days it was a sparser, more basic place that was part dive and part neighborhood gathering place. The food was basic and the vibe 70's. Good food and good people. Tuckers is a galaxy away from that time and place. It's deliciously dark and full of beautiful wood. My sandwich was a ribeye and was divine---enough for two meals. The waitress was sweet with concern that my fries were still hot. The menu was full of high end steaks, but also lunch had a terrific list of affordable sandwiches. The drink list wa impressive, but since I don't drink, we'll just have to speculate. The highlight of my culinary adventure was a lovely black gentleman who brought me tea and silverware. I had my purple cane with me, but he decided I needed extra help down the stairs and to my car. He was right. I'm looking forward to another opportunity to dine here. read more

Very disappointed. I got the Tender Roast Beef Au Jus and when they said "Hand-Carved roast beef" I assumed it would be real Roasted Beef and Hand-Carved. It was not. This was processed sliced beef, likely not even sliced on site. It was closer to Steak Em's. I ate half because I needed to eat. I wish I would have gotten a burger. My daughter got one and it looked good. Thick backyard style, which was good to see that they didn't hop on the smash burger bandwagon. The two steaks were big and to temp. My wife and I happen upon this little place. Upon entry yiu felt as if you were being transported back to a different time and place. We were quite a surprise. We had not been here before. Saloon style doors wood seating and low lit candles everywhere. We did have a bit of await as it was a Saturday night. I don't recall if they took in reservations or not. The waiting area was small the seating was a first come first serve style I think I saw some family style seating and smaller tables in the 1st level and was completely surprised that there was an entire seating area upstairs on a second level. Surprisingly, it was crowded when we arrived so it was a 40 minute wait. The place is rustic and intimate. There's a few reserved parking spaces around the back of the restaurant for Tuckers Place customers. The hostess was very nice and let us know our updated place on the waitlist often. Our waitress was rude. It's like she wanted to rush us while taking orders. It was our first time dining here and she was cutting us off and speaking loudly. If I remembered her name, I would state it. Anywho, the food was so delicious! The lemon pepper salad dressing was GREAT! Never heard of that before. The shrimp were colossal and well seasoned as well was the salmon; very flaky, nice size and flavorful. The bread that comes is nothing special. It didn't add nor takeaway from my food experience. From beginning to end, everything was stellar. From the hostess to the waiter the customer service was definitely A-1. They were packed and still got us seated fast. The lighting was dim and it was very personable. The restaurant was clean inside and out. Though it was crowded it did not get loud at all. The servers and service was very quick. The service here was horrible ... it felt like they wanted us to leave, but they wouldn't bring us the check so we could leave. It wasn't busy. There were a lot of open tables, but they sat another couple at a table that was uncomfortably close to ours. The waitress couldn't fit between them to give us our food, and the guy at the other table kept bumping into my husband. It couldn't have been more awkward. We sat as a party of 12. The reservation was at 7 we were all in attendance at approximately 740p. We completed entree orders by approx 805p. From, 805p to 920p we were served drinks, bread, and salad. When asked about the delayed service of the entree we were told that different temperature steaks take longer to bring out. Inevitably, once delivered most of the entrees and steaks were warm at best. When I notified the server of the poor temperature his response was " will go hear it up." When told that wouldn't be acceptable for a $40 Ribeye his response was,"I don't work in the kitchen." Very shortly there after a manger was at the table to remove the item. Approx 7 mins later the group was boxing their lukewarm food for exit after having to do algebra with the checks as the restaurant "can't" separate checks.
