While cleaning my bathroom I notice there was a leak coming from the compression toilet valve. Called Val Betti and was able to get an appointment the very next day. Mikael came out and fixed the problem in no time. That night I noticed the bathroom sink didn't have much water pressure. Tried a few things and call Val Betti to come and check it out. Sure enough Mikael knew what the issue was. My house has old pluming and when turning the the water off and on the sediment plugged the aerator. He took the aerator off and there was all the sediment. Cleaned it out and it works great. And no charge. This is why I like to do business with a local and long standing company. I requested a plumber in July '25 when my newly installed GE washer dryer did not drain properly. The installer said I needed to call a plumber to install a new drain pipe. Ryan miraculously arrived in 15 minutes from Val Betti plumbing. He thoroughly assessed the situation and deemed that the machine was properly installed but my 1" drain pipe was inadequate. I told him that I'd used that drain pipe for three other washer dryers over a period of 40 years and it worked just fine. We tried a small load and everything worked well. He suggested that I call him if it starts to leak because there was no need to put in the 4 inch drain pipe. The clogged hose must've had a little bit of debris in it, which cleared out. Ryan was nice enough to offer not to charge me for the call . I felt he was so competent and so friendly. I asked him to look at my clogged tub. After working on it for an hour, he managed to pull out a 3 foot piece of tree root. I must've had four plumbers work on that tub and no one had ever accomplished that. The road to this review is kind of long and winding, as some of mine are. My water heater spent several weeks outside in 2007 when the garage/bedroom/bathroom part of our house was jacked up for earthquake retrofitting and was then reinstalled inside, where it remains. in March/April of 2021 we had some issues w/ our water and w/ the water heater. Derek, the Drummer Plumber, who installed our earthquake shutoff valve as well as others in the neighborhood, worked on most of it but when it came to the water heater he called in his sensei, Anam of Green Eagle Plumbing, who took care of the issue. Anam warned me that the water heater could fail soon so I feel as if we have been living on borrowed time. I didn't realize how long it had been until I looked up my Yelp review for Green Eagle. A few weeks ago I read an article in the Chronicle about a family in San Francisco that had cut its energy bill from $4000/year to $2600/year. One of the things the article mentioned was that they had installed a heat pump water heater, which is more Earth friendly, among other attributes. Intrigued, I read up on heat pump water heaters. Then I called Val Betti. Val even had me in his system from when we had worked w/ them more than a decade ago and I knew I could trust their judgement and expertise. Val himself came out to give me the estimate. He came at noon on Wednesday as arranged and I showed him the setup. We discussed the heat pump vs. replacing the water heater w/ a 50 gallon one like it. He was gone by the time Nina came so we could go to dim sum in Pinole and he sent me an estimate for the replacement by a conventional water heater w/ details about what would be done. I wrote him back saying, 'Let's do it!'. The next morning I got a call from him saying they had time and the water heater in stock, was I available? Well, I didn't hear the phone because Thursdays are when the trash/recycling/compost trucks come and I put in earplugs so I won't hear them. By the time I heard the message they had booked another appointment so we scheduled an appointment for this morning at (gasp) 8:00. Last night I moved the car out of the garage and parked it on the street so it would be out of the way. I managed to wake up this morning at 7:44, threw on clothes and was prepared to let the technician in when he arrived exactly at 8:00. The technician was Chan and he was sweet, young, helpful and capable. He explained to me what he was going to be doing and I went back to sleep while he worked. He worked carefully and efficiently and was finished before noon. He was very careful, putting down a drop cloth to walk on even through the garage. Before he left he had me run the water in the bathtub to get the air out of the line. He asked me how I preferred to pay and I decided to write a check rather than use a credit card and that's what I did. When he left he told me to call them if there were any problems and I assured him I would. Val recommended replacing the water heater like for like rather than getting a heat pump because the expense would have been considerably higher. He didn't say it, but my thought is that at my age it's just not worth the extra expense. My experience all around was excellent. read more

I couldn't be happier with the work performed a few days ago by Val Betti Plumbing. I had a leak at the meter, and the first plumber dug down to the pipe where the leaks had been in the past. No leak, and no obvious location for any other leak. They recommended a leak detection company that had special technology, and as soon as the leak detector localized the leak, a Val Betti plumber came again and fixed the leak with a new pipe fitting, and returned the soil to it's normal position with no mess. Our kitchen drain was clogged. The day before I called the plummer I took apart the drain pipes and removed thick sluge and snaked to drain. After putting everything back together water still would not go down tge drain. I used a plunger but didn't have the strength to clear the clog (I'm 76) The good part was they came the same day that called. All the plummer did was use our toilet and used my plunger and cleared the clog after plunging about 10 times. Total time roughly 10 minutes The bad part was it cost me $195 with no discount for seniors or veterans. I asked about this and the plummer said instead of charging by time, they charge for a project. I'm happy it is fixed but $195 for 10 minutes of effort is a bit much for retired people on a fixed income. I should have charged $100 for use of my toilet. read more

Home Depot came to my house a couple days later to install a new dishwasher and caused a leak under my sink and refused to fix it. A couple weeks ago I went to test our water shutoff valve and it didn't work. I used Yelp to solicit for local plumbers to come fix it (replace with a new ball valve). Just have to say, I'm really glad I went with Val Betti. From the start, they quoted a fair price and already had a product code for the specific procedure I needed, with the 5 steps listed out exactly. That really impressed me that they'd created a product catalog in advance instead of having to manually figure out the steps involved. Their guy Ryan came out and did a fantastic job. He explained the theory behind what was going on, and caught that our problem was actually more serious than we had thought. We needed a pressure regulator to avoid damaging our infrastructure since we were already at 125psi! He gave me a no-pressure offer (hah, no pun intended) to take care of the extra things and do the work on the spot without needing to call for a followup visit. The quality of workmanship was excellent. The new shutoff valve juts out prominently from the house so you see it every day when you walk by, and he made sure it looked good.
