I wanted to buy snowboarding boots instead of renting and I happened to be in the valley at the time. Val Surf was the closest option so I went. I was in a rush and within 30 minutes I tried a pair on and left the store with 'em. They seemed comfortable enough, even though they were the only pair I had tried. Bought a totally radical snowboard (161 Never Summer Summit) and while prices are high, this review would be 4 star for selection. The board was misrepresented to me, however. I was told it was last years model and after buying have learned it is 4 years old. Unacceptable to Lie to customers, and if not a lie, then the sales person didn't know his inventory. I know the sales force to be knowledgeable, however and there is no justification for lying to a customer. Very Shady indeed. read more

I've gone to the Woodland Hills location pretty much all of my life since I grew up a few minutes away. Things have gone a little stale there and although I've had good experiences with a couple of the staff, a few of them just seem like they can't be bothered to help. Makes for all around weird vibes. Yesterday I went to the Valley Village location to exchange some pants and I wish it was closer to me! Everyone I came across was incredibly helpful and knew a lot about their products. I just loved this place! Everyone was so nice and helpful. Bought a pair of white converse for $46 ($50 at Macy's), some rainbow sandals (in which they had recently sold out on the light tan ones and an employee offered to order them from a different store and I could pick them up the next day, however I didn't mind getting the chocolate color sandals), and graphic socks for my boyfriend. I can't speak to the skate and snowboarding inventory, but don't bother with surf apparel here unless you're a poser with deep pockets who wants style over functionality. For example, you'll find very few boardshorts with a key pocket. If you are an adult who surfs -- you know why that's important. Even worse, they return policy is one of the worst I've ever seen -- only 14 days for a refund unused merchandise. I fully understand if they don't want to take back something used or blemished, but they don't want to take back merchandise that's fit to go right back onto the shelf less than a month from purchase. I know that styles change quickly and they don't want to get stuck with dated stuff -- but styles don't change that quickly. read more

I found this shop on yelp a couple months ago and I have been renting my snowboard equipment since. Today I decided on buying my first pair of boots and the employee (wish I remembered his name, wears a lot of rings) who assisted me was so helpful and knowledgeable. I'm still a beginner therefore I had a lot of questions and he was extremely patient and was able to answer all my questions, he also educated me on all the different types of boots and boards. Unbelievably fantastic customer service!! Made a spontaneous decision to hit Snow Summit this past President's Weekend and walked in to VS Saturday morning with NO rental reservation. Rather than laugh us out of the building (which they had every right), they got to work coming up with creative solutions to piece together enough ski gear - going so far as to call a customer who had not yet picked up his boots to see if he still needed them. In addition, the rental team was a treasure trove of knowledge about every piece of equipment and what works best for customers based on ability and conditions. I AM VERY DISAPOINTED. i called in today "keep in mind it's christmas eve" and i ask about a raffle they were hosting that i wanted to enter and they said yes but in store only and then they said they close at around 7. so i come at about 5:13 pm and then i see all the workers in the store and i ask if i can fill out the paper for the raffle and i was rudely denied and was told they are closed but i was told they would close at 7. Brought a couple of boards in for basic tune-ups. $40 bucks per board and a day later they were done. When I went in to pick them up, the place was packed with people, but I was able to get in and out relatively quickly. These guys cannot get any better! Dave Adams is awesome!!! He helped me out on New Year's Day. My wife and I went in to the store to look at some new boots, snowboards, jackets, and bindings. He spent about 1 hour with us explaining different things about boards and so on. I ended up buying a Never Summer rocker board with camber and new bindings. I got some new boots which ended up being a lot more compfrotable than my last pair. Everything was on sale and I had the chance to use it this weekend up in Big Bear. Best ride I have had yet to date. My wife and I are leaving to go to Whistler this Wednesday and I am excited about this snowboarding trip. These guys are the best. I have lived down the street from this place for years and had never gone into this store. I was looking for some water shoes and my brother said to try Val Surf. He had never been there before either upon arriving one of their employees asked if we needed help. We told him we were looking for water shoes. He immediately asked for my size and went to the back to look for my size. He was very friendly as well as helpful in helping me choose the right size. So we're going up to Snow Summit and we rented our snowboard equipment somewhere else (big box sporting goods store), not knowing that they have ski & snowboard rentals at Val Surf. We're in the car on the way when we realize they put our 8 year old son's bindings on backwards. We stopped in to Val Surf to find out that not only were they on wrong, but there were bolts missing, and they used the wrong discs so they were not centered!! Seriously? Matthew came to the rescue, fixing it ALL for us. They really know what they are doing, and I will only rent at Val Surf from now on. My husband and I just rented full ski kit packages (boots, skis, poles, etc) from Val Surf. Could not have been happier with the gear; and could not have had a better sales associate to help us out. Mike is highly knowledgeable and super helpful. He didn't up sell us on any gear (we needed everything- rental kit AND helmet, goggles, etc) and was a really nice person. I had planned to go up to June Mountain to snowboard this Saturday and had forgotten that I had busted one of my bindings last season. I needed a new disc for my 10 year old Flow bindings, which I couldn't find online and REI couldn't help. But in comes Brian at Val Surf, who told me to bring my bindings in and he'd see what he could do. Since Val Surf has been around for a bit, they had collected various parts and he was able to find me a disc with four matching bolts. Sometimes, you need a longstanding neighborhood shop and Val Surf fits the bill. Thanks, guys! read more

i'm a multiple time customer of Val Surf. pretty much every experience i've had here has been a good one. the individual workers in each department all seem to have extensive knowledge about their respective departments. in my experience, they've been more than willing to give me a quick lesson on differences in surfboard design, pricing and construction on wetsuits, or newer snowboard boot features. their prices are pretty typical for the things they sell, but a few times each year they have sales to clear out some inventory to make room for the new stuff, and i've gotten some good deals that way. sure you can probably go online and save yourself $10 and maybe get free shipping from some website, but you still can't try it on and see the construction and quality of what you're getting first hand, like you can with Val Surf's extensive selection. they have lots of stuff that you just don't see at Sport Chalet or other smaller board shops. their rental department is pretty cool too. i think they replace their rental equipment with new stuff each year, so my friends have gotten brand new stuff that nobody ever wore before, as a rental. read more

Val Surf is quite possibly the only true snow store around. They have the latest and best snowboard (and probably ski) equipment in stock. I have also come here to rent snowboards and they have amazing boards to demo (ie burton, never summer). Prices are average but they have a much larger selection than anywhere else. This season I was looking for a specific board from last season - I couldnt find it ANYWHERE on the internet and I called a bunch of stores in the area and this was the only place that had it! Hunter was super helpful in finding me an inexpensive rent option. He even let me bring my board in and adjusted my ancient bindings to make sure the boots fit properly. It's a really good skate clothing store. I wouldn't come here for equipment or to have them put your board together, but I would definitely come here over Tilly's, Zumiez, or PacSun for skater clothes. They have stuff that you aren't going to find online, for sure, and really cool shit that I never saw again anywhere else (I do a lot of shopping, so that means something).They had these Volcom pants in colors that were not even on Volcom's website or anywhere else and they are probably my favorite pants- the Maroon ones. They have a great selection of socks and belts too, and if you shop a lot too then you know that there is a really limited selection of skater belts in stores, especially canvas web belts. And the selection of those are not cool other places because they are the same black or grey that we've all had since, like, 2005 or even before since those are never unavailable. What happened to all the designers of the skater clothes world? It's like the world lost it's muse to design amazing clothes like it used to. But, Val Surf is awesome so check it out for sure. read more
